Just throwing out a friendly request for a plain AOSP ROM for the vivid. If anyone knows where to find a how to or some sort of guide I'll gladly take a look and see if it is something way above my head or not. Thanks in advance to any Dev who takes this on or shows me the way!
It'lll eventually come about as CM9.
Modify that the wayou you like when it comes out and strip all of the CM bloat.

Would love just the stock launcher and messaging app for the ICS vivid roms out now?

Hi there Folks!
I'm running EspressoEnergy mod for my Hero by PMGRANDS. Awesome ROM!
I'm wondering if there's an easy way to switch the launcher (not sure if this is the right word.. the bottom bar that has phone, applications, and add (+) ) back to the original one provided by HTC?
Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Yep, you're correct on the terminology! You're well on your way!
And that's a great question. I would like to know that too.
search the market. I use ADW EX but Zeam is great too. there is an app that will switch them or press home with 2 or more launchers and it will bring up a selector. Sorry I misread the question You need an HTC based Rom to get the launcher back.
He's on sense based Rom

Pmgrands' looks different in the screen shots of his OP. Maybe try liquidsense or nfx roms. Or ask someone like kifno who has experience with that rom.

I am wondering, seeing as the IS is running gingerbread. Is it possible to get the crt screen off animation on top of sense?
At least for now without root

New IS owner here, very disappointed this didn't make it through - coolest thing on Gingerbread by far!
Its not available fully working even for root users
BUT: it looks like seo from the DHD crew is going to give it a shot ... We will most probably have the addon in mike1986's ARHD ROM ... Idon think there is a chance of getting it without a custom rom ...

Crt feature is working well in my desire with leedroid 3.07. Nice to have but just really eyecandy... would be nice to have on the incredible s.

Was just wondering if anyone knows of an easy way to take an apk from the stock Revolution ROM (EmailWidget.apk) and make it accessible/usable on thecubed's de-crapified ROM or any ROM for that matter?
I'd donate to the cause if anyone was willing to do this widget. It's really useful.
Is this even possible?
Unfortunately the lg widgets are all imbedded in their launcher, so to get a little bit of good, you have to have all of the other crap.

Please do not ask Questions or place Problem Threads in the Development Area
Development is for Development
Moving to General
I haven't rooted yet but I keep thinking I'll do it when cm9/aosp/aokp comes out for the device, that is if it's still in development. Anyone still working on it? I found a thread discussing it but the thread seemed to have turned into a huge cat fight and then it got locked

I just put aokp on my HTC flyer, and while it still needs a lot of work, man it is beautiful. And its 4.04, not the buggy "beta" 4.03 that's on the vivid

Those beta ROM's you're talking about are just Sense ROM's ported from the Sensation with many Sense parts removed. AOSP based ROM's such as CM9 and AOKP are currently being worked on. The Vivid has many unique aspects that make it more difficult to work with, e.g. our RIL, HTC's crappy job with source. That's why it's taking longer for things to be released.
No this one is aokp, check the flyer forum. It took the developer forever to figure out a graphic issue, and he finally did it, now him and another developer are making progress fast. There are ports as you say but this one isnt, there is no "sense" whatsoever with that rom.
Anyway I'm not asking for an eta, i just am wondering if any developer or developers are working on it?

NOOB QUESTION!! What's AOKP?
I'm a VIVID HOLIC!!
Its a KANG build. I don't quite fully understand it myself, but I think its basically an a seperate rom based off CM sources.
At any rate to sum it up anything that's cyanogenmod, AOSP (Android open source project) or AOKP (Android open KANG Project) is going to be based off google source code, and closer to stock android and typically won't feature any Touchwiz, Sense, or motoblur apps.
Thanks! I knew about AOSP but I've been away from Android for a bit and since I've been back there's been some new things lol. I didn't know what AOKP was or even Kang but you've cleared that up for me

AOKP stands for Android Open Kang Project http://aokp.co/index.php/about
its basically the same thing as AOSP except it has more features/customization

I'm was talking about the DeSensed, AOSP-like ROM's for the Vivid, I don't know anything about the Flyer. And yes work is being done on nearly a daily basis. You can track progress at the dev's git:

Sorry I misunderstood you. Yeah I am aware the aosp styled roms on the vivid are stock roms with sense removed. I'd love to help out though I don't know a whole lot about development. How hard is it to learn?

Hi everyone, I'm a HTC Incredible S user (stock) from Australia that has been increasingly frustrated with HTC support (lack of stock update to ICS due to carrier, Virgin Mobile), so I decided to take the matter to my own hand.
Question been: I have been browsing around the forum for various ROM to flash (read the important notices and all such), but one question come to mind... since I am using Go Launcher (free version, got sick with stock HTC sense) what are the con for said launcher? Is it recommended to replace stock/ROM launchers with it?
Thanks everyone for helping out.
It's up to you, I don't like Sense <=3.6 either.
I think the more popular launchers here on XDA are Nova and Apex.
The cons are that the Sense launcher will continue to use up memory as a system service but that can now be stopped using this.
Launchers are mostly for customization. Go launcher is among the best available to replace stock launcher. If you're going to root your device then you'll have the liberty to choose whether you want a sense based rom or just plain vanilla rom (rom without sense framework and interface).
As of my experience, I'm liking apex launcher for its simplicity and ease of use, but if you are willing to spend some bucks, i would recommend tsf launcher, nice eye candy yet still not a burden to system resources.

+1 for Apex - I like how you can change the name and icon for the app in the home screen among other customisations all for free.
Some apps in Google Play are great but their icons are sh1te
Thanks for suggestions guys! Much appreciated!
Just one more question to ask: which ROM is the best recommended to go for right now? I was thinking Nik's JB ROMs, but half afread the phone might not be able to run it smoothly (store mobile Incredible S with stock ICS update lag like hell...)
Thanks very much.
EDIT: opps forgot to mention, without HTC sense...
Smoothest experience and best battery/performance close to stock:
ARHD or The Second Sun rom
Nonverbose's kernel
ultrasmooth rosie
v6 supercharger
Andrev daemon
Project butter hacks
I agree with markj on his suggested rom and tweaks. If you're looking for non sense rom, give nik's jb rom a try.
EDIT : you tried that, my bad the rom still new, nik will further polish it in the future for sure
Personally, for plain-non sense-ics rom, i prefer icecoldsandwich together with those tweaks (minus kernel) mentioned.

I had the same experience as you when I updated with the OTA stock ICS update... almost hurled my phone at the wall with the lags and rubbish battery life.
IceColdSandwich worked well for me but I'm now using CodeName JB (I like to roll with the cool kids) and both have been very smooth, the latter much more so IMO.
A thing to note if you are snap happy - the camera quality in AOKP/AOSP ROMs will not be as good as Sense ones. Just something I noticed as well as others in XDA.
