Hey guys. Here is a question. Is there someway to change the resolution to 480x800? My old eyes are really having a hard time seeing the fonts on the Vivid. I am 41 and don't want to have to wear reading glasses to see my phone.
But you have to ware.

you could adjust the LCD Density.
there are apps that handle it in the android market if you don't want to get into editing system files....
you DO need root.
Default is 240, setting it higher will INCREASE the size of the fonts, ui elements, etc.
The only real drawback is that some apps look a little funky if you adjust it.... for instance I adjusted down... to 200 and the phone dialer looks a little weird....
it still functions, but ui elements don't quite line up.
Could use some specific instructions re: increasing font size
How do you get to the LCD adjustment on the HTC Vivid phone. I'm also over 41 and have a hard time seeing my calendar (which is coordinated to my work calendar)...very nice feature!!
Please help.

Since I use this application on my HTC Evo I thought I would give it a shot on my XOOM. Default settings it at 160 and I've accomplished getting the XOOM to 120 and STABLE. I'm not sure if anyone here has used this application but it basically adjusts your resolution on the device itself. Let me know if anyone comes around and try's it out as well. I haven't gone anything below 120 currently because I am happy of how the display looks at the moment.
Any issues with scaling, something not looking right? I haven't rooted my xoom yet, but this was one of the first things I thought of doing.

screenshot please..how it look on desktop, gmail and gtalk?
Everything is working perfectly fine. I actually uninstalled the application because the display where you can adjust icons, etc gets smaller and you have less room to place more things on the screen. It looks great but it just doesn't seem practical to be on a tablet. If you have a rooted XOOM def. try it out and tell me what you think about it?

Agree. The density of the Xoom is fairly small to begin with (160). It seems to be more fine tuned. What a difference with the first generation tablets! Those had a density of 240 and looked like the screen of a giant phone LoL
Did you also try to blow up the density? Wonder how it would look like with a density between 175 and 190

I actually did 240 once...it pushed the tool bars off screen.

I have spent the last several hours downloading wallpapers from 4walled.org for my phone. The wallpapers look so nice on the computer, and I really wanted to start theming my phone with them.
So I've loaded up the 300+ wallpapers to my SD-card, and as I start browsing through them in the gallery, I have realized one immutable fact: they all look horrible. The gradients aren't really gradient, they're splotchy.
It was my understanding that this phone's LCD was capable of 24bit color? Perhaps it is not and this is where my woes are from. I have also noticed that .PNG backgrounds do seem to look better than the .jpg counterparts.
Any comments or wisdom into selecting backgrounds would be greatly appreciated.
I just looked at some of those images and they dont look that high quality to me. Maybe your monitor is older and made them look better than they are. Check here for some more. Maybe you will find some you like. http://wallbase.cc/start/
Look up "wallpaper set and save" on market, it will eliminate the color banding you get when you set a wallpaper through the gallery app.
Also make sure the resolution on any wall you get is a minimum of 960x800.

I use fish bowl photo which will also eliminate the banding. dodol wallpaper maker works great for setting portrait wallpapers too.

Thank you for that site, I always used Interfacelift.net. Nice addition.
I regularly raid DeviantArt for backgrounds and use Wallpaper Wizardrii to set the wallpapers. WW allows you to set a properly sized background without cropping.

Do you prefer that over the Fish Bowl Gallery? And does it support high-resolution images?

I've never used Fish Bowl. I only just started using WW today, but I would think that the no crop feature would only work on a wallpaper that was at or below the correct size for the display.
its all about nik.bot.nu thanks for wallbase.cc tho, another site to lose large chunks of my life too lmao
I get my wallpapers from socwall.com. Thats where I found my current wallpaper.
Thanks for all the links and the info! I will surely check those out!

This.
Wallpaper Set and Save will fix what you've described, including the gradients issues you've mentioned.

Hello everyone! My SGS2 is dying Sad I know! But it might be time for a nice little update Well, I was thinking about getting the Note! It's the perfect screen size, but to be honest, I'm a little worried about the text.
My vision isn't as good as it used to be! I don't like having to focus too much on it to read it. I love the SGS2 because the text size and icons are already large. Icons isn't my major concern, but rather readability of text.
I also have my retired streak here, and text is a lot smaller and harder to read than my my SGS2. I know a lot of apps have text size options, like in xda app and tapatalk and such, but what about just NORMAL menus and web browsing and such?
Does anyone have an SGS2 and a Note and be able to tell me if text sizes are a lot smaller throughout the interface? and within apps?
The SGS2 has the option to change fonts, and some fonts are naturally larger than others which could help, does the Note still keep this feature?
Any screenshots would be awesome, but not necessary.
Thanks guys
I moved from SGSII to Note and i have not noticed that the font is smaller on the Note. My eyesight isn't the best so if the font was too small it would definately have annoyed me.

It does have this feature.
If you root you could change the density too.

Hi! Is that accessibility menu OEM or did you root to get it? Because that looks fantastic hehe.
Menu is OEM. But like it states, its only for some internal apps.
That's indeed the accessibility menu No root needed.
wow you guys made my day. I can't wait to order mine.
I just switched from my S4 which was rooted and I typically used 400 dpi. Any way to change it on my S5?Everything is so large and I want to fit more on screen lol, especially in Chrome and texting.

I agree, that is the one thing I hate about not having root access. If they were give us this option I would be inclined to not hate TW so much.

Don't talk about it, I miss per app DPI. It hurts
I wouldn't have left my S4 behind if i didn't have a small crack and a messed up chassis. I have to keep reminding myself that the battery life/camera/performance are worth it. But i am scared that it is a plausible reality that we get no root.

No skepticism, we'll get it . I did notice changing the font to extra small helped fit more on the screen in gmail and a some other apps, not the same as a higher DPI but it works for the time being.

I know this may not be what you want (if you actually like touch wiz) but you could always use a launcher, I know with nova you can change text size, icon size, rows and columns, and etc.

Yeah, I do use Nova launcher, which helps but it doesn't affect the DPI in apps which is what I really want. Hopefully someday...
Back with in S8+ days there were 3 apks floating around that allowed you to change the height of the navigation bar in order to increase screen real estate. I quite liked it as did a lot of other people I assume because you can find links to plenty of websites talking about it. However I can't find any talk about it for this phone.
Does anyone know of anything like this for the Note 8?
Still on the s8+ but considering getting a note 8 soon. Just out of curiosity, have you tried installing the same apk?
You can change the Minimum DPI setting in DEV settings to make it look higher res. I have mine set to 475 and it has a lot more space. You can then change the font size to be one mark below normal and it really helps.

Yep I had changed that. on both the S8+ and Note 8. That's good, but the nav bar still bugs me on this phone. Everytime I look at it, I notice it's too big lol
Hmm. I wonder if the guy who created the old apk uses an S8 and hasn't bothered to make one for the note 8. I'd imagine it is quite simple. Wonder if you could make the request?
Edit: I made a request to tigerhoods, who I believe authored the apk for the s8.
Here is the response I got:
it works when packed in a sammy theme if that makes sense..
u have to decompile a Samsung theme then add the nav values to the common.apk then recompile theme for it to take effect now

Looking further into how to do this, but I haven't yet been able to get my hands on the apk for the theme I've been using. But, from what I gather, you can't just install an apk to change the Navbar height with the note 8. You have to specifically edit the apk for whatever theme you're using.

Thanks mate. lol no way I can do this. Sounds like a lot of trouble now
Nothing new here?
If you mean something like that..... here are some overlay mods they are working without root. The 1 i have linked is to minimize the height a bit more then half.
