Galaxy mini with ubuntu??? - Samsung Galaxy Mini

I have a friend running Android 2.3.7 with a HTC Desire and he was running ubuntu on top of this with a lovely interface. Basically a dual boot with both running at same time. Ubuntu only uses 24mb ram apparently too. Any testers on this??? Thanks. Fraser

Won't work for now.... Since if i'm not mistaking the Galaxy Mini doesn't support the loop stuff in the kernel... Actually it's better to ask squadzone . But probably we will need another kernel.

It will work ..bit with give style cm7 or andro-id...I once installed it on my mini but it was slow and I uninstalled it..but it works

Yeah i will ask squaddy. I was aware of the fact that it needs kernel loop thing. Apparently my rom and kernel supports it anyway and it is supported on mini with correct kernel

Wifes galaxy s

Hi in your opnions whats the best rom for the s,darkys? Or suggestions welcome, itsfor my better half, she likes it simple,im not beibng a git in saying thT

I'd say its all about personal preference mate, if you want a rom that's quick, with no bugs etc then yeah Darky's is the rom for you. But if you want a ported rom I.e HTC sense, 2.3.4 from the nexus s etc then that can be done but as I said, its all about personal preference as roms are being released nearly every days and each with different capabilities and different features. I'm running Cyanogenmod 7.1 RC1 with Glitch kernel, overclocked to 1.44ghz and it works a treat hope this helps bud

Well... i've been trying the galnet miui and it works wonderfully. Fast, simple, beautiful and easy to install.
Just my opinion... but go and have a look... many are satisfied.
Good luck!

If u are new to flashing stuff, stick with darkky.. its simple, elegant and fast but if u want advanced feature like theming on the go, try miui...(ps: installing miui may not be as simple as darkky) Happy flashing..
Thanks for all advice, ill check them out later, darkys rom looks good, whats this about the htc port, how much is ported? Sense features?

I'm current running Cyanogenmod 7 Nightly #41 and its fast and responsive, but you mentioned your wife likes things simple, so i'd suggest keeping it stock, at least until she says that it is running too slow. Then i'd go for Darky, nice and simple and very few or no bugs.
Or try Juwe's ROM, I like it more than Darky 10.1.

Did debugging mode not work then bud?? Try this. First off, go into settings, wireless and network, USB, then tick Samsung Kies. Then connect your phone to your computer/laptop, wait a few moments, then load Samsung Kies, once loaded, at the top....select tools, then select re-install drivers. This will then install your device drivers again. Keep your phone connected whilst its installing your drivers. Let me know how it goes

MIUI or F1 SGSII (with Galaxian Kernel)
Sgs big bench mark scres using
BASED FIRWARE 2.3.4
KERNEL GALAXIAN V4
ROM CriskeloROM Gingerbread v75
This combo is fast, stable, and by far the best settup for Galaxy S, 3000+ Quadrant scores, neat and highly customisable, SET CPU to 1.4 overclock and watch you phone kick anal!
Darkys is now so defunked, months ago! Was good, but now, you got your undies cought around your ankle if using darkys, time to get with the prgram, if you want speed, try the combo as above, after many many many different combos, finally found the master combo (-:

Kernel

Im wondering why all the Android kernels are so old? For example: ive the newest Rom for the ace (thanks to wayland) but it just has a 2.6.y kernel. Even backtrack, blackbuntu or ue have old kernels (3.2.y-3.5.y) . So my question is : why does no one use the 3.7.y or 3.8 kernel ?
Sorry if this is a stupid question i dont know much about it
And sorry for bad english
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda app-developers app
Wine tastes better the longer you keep it. Many of the kernels are unique in their own sense as well as stable. That's why we still use them !
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium
Our Ace has some hardware limitations and it is very difficult task to port 3.x kernel in our ace.
thanks so would it be possible to get kernel 3.8 rc2 to my backtrack?? cause wlan and eth drivers are not working for my lenovo ideapad y580 in the official kernel

[q] differnce between galaxy mini, galaxy pop plus and galaxy mini 2

WELL I WAS COMPARING BETWEWN S5570 and S5570i and found that all are same except that S5570i cpu was faster with qualcomm libs..
all i wanna ask is that S5570 roms can be used on S5570i
and wat is the difrrence between galaxy mini plus and galaxy mini 2
Google it or go to www.geekaphone.com and select compare ....
Sent from my GT-S6500D using xda app-developers app
There are plenty of comparisons, just Google a lil bit before posting this kinda of threads
Sent from my Nexus⁴
custom rom for the S5570 can not be used in S5570i and vice versa because there are many differences between the two models in terms of software and hardware.
Check gsmarena..u will get alot

LoL you can get stable version of Cm7.2 for mini and dont ever think stable version of CM for mini plus..
But still their are lots of difference between this devices.. Just a small tip flash a good stable custom rom on mini plus you'll save battery alot as compare to stock rom

Psyke also got it working on Galaxy 5..
For now our development is paused..but erik n other androidarmv6 devs are working hard on it..

Install captivate rom on galaxy s

I understand that the samsung captivate is a variant of the i9000. I know examples of phones that has almost the same hardware and can use the same ROM but with the correct kernel: the htc hero and htc magic is almost the same hardware, one rom will work on both but will use different kernel in each other. the huawei u8800-51 and the u8800pro have the same hardware, the diferences are that the pro uses an updated version of the procesor (u8800-51=qualcomm msm7230; u8800pro=qualcomm msm8255) but compatible with the same libraries. Motorola defy can use ROMs made for the defy+.
what's your opinion about this? do you think is possible to install a captivate rom on our galaxy s and viceversa?
Sent from my old but wonderfull GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
Not quite so apparently. The reasoning and the mechanism behind it I don't know why, but cross-flashing doesn't seem to work between the SGS and its variants. It doesn't even happen between the S and the S+.
Having said that there ARE a few roms which can be installed on both the S and the Captivate from the same zip (Helly Bean is the best example of this). That relies on Aroma however, so its not quite the same thing.

You can veery simply port it over to the i9000 with a few steps. There should be a thread in the q&a
