What is the most convenient way to downgrade ICS to cm7?
Thanks
When I was trying out earlier BETAs (teamhacksungs BETA 8 and 9) I just booted into recovery and flashed my 2.3.5 ROM like I would anything else. But this was before they started implementing separate kernels and bootloaders and whatnot, so I'm not sure if the process is the same =/
Turns out one can simply restore an earlier nandroid! Now anyone else wondering knows

My story is sort of a strange one.
I originally unlocked my N1 and installed a 2.1 custom rom on it. Then Paul released his 1 ZIP to flash upgrade to F50. I got that and all hints of my custom rom seem to have disappeared. However I'm not sure if I will get OTA updates now, or if I can simply flash the new ZIP to give me the latest froyo because of this custom ROM that I can't remember its name.
I would go back to stock roms and everything but I don't want to lose all my data and apps, plus I don't know how!
So your saying you flashed the froyo update and your Rom is gone?
If that's what you meant... than that is what is supposed to happen.... you lose root when you flash that update.... but Cyanogen made a quick fix for that

I have tried a couple of custom roms and they have all worked fine at first but then after a while most of them would do something like force close whenever i try to open anything. This is getting really frustrating. I have a build 1009 and im looking at phoenix 3.0 and perception 10.0 both look really nice. Could someone tell me what im doing wrong and how to fix it. Every time i try to enable third party apps recently or something else ( I can't remember specificly what it was but it was rooting it or something) it will do the blah blah something apcore stoped working force close so right now im just going to use my phone on stock firmware and use it like normal and see what happens but could someone help me. I have used gingerclone, Assonance (force close problem), Darky 8.0 with the captivate workaround (force close problem), and maybe a few others but those are the only ones i can remember.
Custom roms are rooted with side loading enabled. So if you are trying to do this after you have the rom loaded, that could be a problem. I also would like to know what you are restoring on these roms. Should only be user apps.
To pin point your problem please provide more detail
I have put apps from custom roms onto the stock rom and other roms. Could that be the problem? And also this is what im going back to.

Im only doing the first part im not going to jh7. would that have something to do with it. Any help is greatly appriciated.

What apps?
I do not think only going back to jh7 would cause your issue. Tell me more about what you are trying to do to enable side loading, and why you are doing it on as custom rom
I had the ones i downloaded and i sideloaded one wireless tether app a long time ago then i backed it all up with titanium backup and i would install a custom rom and it would have roms preinstalled on it. I would want to put on a different custom rom so i backed up again and the flashed back to stock the to the new rom. and i would restore all the apps including the one from previous roms. If you are asking for the specifics it would take a while and about the side loading i followed the guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=738376 and did the method 3 it seemed to work fine until i rebooted and then it did the force close thing. And i didn't go to jh7 i went to jh6 or jh2 or something like that but im going to try going to jh7 and see if that helps.
dont restore ALL apps in Titanium Backup. safest option is "restore missing apps+data"
all the custom 2.2 roms have tethering/wifi hotspot built into them...no need for another app for it.
for custom roms, you DO NOT need to root or sideload...they are enabled by default on all custom roms.
Thank both of you for your help. I will probably for now only install roms specificly for captivate and with specific instructions.
Hello all,
After many months of excitement, Motorola Canada released Froyo(2.2.1) for the Telus Moto Milestone. Through all of this, it seems like I've gotten the DSI and kernel errors. The 4 capacitative keys take a while to respond (3 times before they work), and my keyboard and contacts/messaging are all screwed up, color-wise.
I was looking at rooting following this guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=983516) but do not know if the vulnerable sbf's would be able to work now that I have 2.2.1.
Also, I have been told that FroyoMod is a very stable Froyo ROM, which I was looking to customize with a Gingerbread theme that he has released (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=815595). Will I be able to follow the same tutorial to revert back to stock 2.1 then apply the official Moto update (in case I need to return it for servicing)?
I've heard rumors of people bricking their phones after applying faulty radios after flashing a custom ROM. Will I need to worry about applying the proper radio? Or is fairly painless to do?
What happens if I brick my phone if I apply a wrong radio?
Sorry for all these questions, I'd like to make this entire process as easy as possible and I've never rooted a phone before!
Thanks in advance!

1. The sbf will still work, sbfs replace everything...so version does not matter
2. Radios are not such a big deal on milestone, they an be easily swapped from AOR ( if you mean basebands, i dont know of any radio files other than this)
3. You can usually reflash older sbfs, unless bootloader changed

So I will be able to use the 2.1 sbf for Canada over the 2.2.1 official Moto update that I have right now?
How would I swap the basebands and I'm guessing AOR is OpenRecovery? How would I do that.
Does anybody know if the bootloader for 2.2.1 changed?
Thanks!

1. I dont know if you can resinstall 2.1 on top of 2.2, you should...but i have never tried. At wore, you could use one of the 2.1 based roms in the dev section...i wont be the official version, but it will be eclair.
2. AOR is Androidiani open recovery...it is a different version or openrecovery with a bit more options. There is a change baseband submenu that lets you install the baseband files for each country.

People are saying that the bootloader is different between 2.1 and 2.2.1, so I think I might wait and see what others think before I try and root it. Thanks for your help!
any luck since then to root your Milestone from 2.2.1?
So i havent been able to install any miui roms in the past couple of days idk y i use to be able to install them but after i installed cyanogen's 7.0 i cant install any of them i really miss miui i just wanted to test out 7.0 but know i cant everytime i flash a miui rom i always get stuck on the boot and it just keeps rebooting so if any one can help me i will appreciated it thx
Just going off the top of my head, I had the same problem but I think I was able to install MIUI ROMS by downgrading to Froyo before trying to install any MIUI ROMs.
I'm no expert but I assumed it was a Gingerbread-vs-Froyo thing and that MIUI being based on Froyo (until the recent releases) somehow required you to be on Froyo before installing them. Cyanogen 7 is Gingerbread so that's where my thinking came from.
Anyhow, it's worth a shot to try downgrading first.

I can flash a MIUI ROM of any type, but only Froyo versions of it actually work without fatal flaws. My problem is that the calibration settings force closes upon bootup and then NOTHING will install. I'm stuck with the basics, which is unacceptable.
On each download/install it goes into a soft reboot at install of the app.
Hi there folks!
Im getting mighty confused about this flashing thing.
Im looking to change my ROM to something else then the ICS from Samsung.
Here is the deal.
I read the warning posts and it say (what i think it means) that my build "XLP9" ICS 4.0.3 from Samsung is not safe to do anything on.
I look around on the net to see if there is a way (despite what i read here).
It looks promising.
But all the things i find is ether a lower version of Android (like 2.3.x) or someone is telling me about tons of stuff to download and do before.
So this is were i ask you all.
Do (been searching for 2 days, perhaps my search terms are bad) anyone know if there is a working way to for me to change my version to AOKP for e.g without destroying my phone?
Like i said before, my Build is: XLP9, android version 4.0.3 (from Samsungs update service).
Phone is rooted using CWM.
Its a Note version for the .EU market bought like a few weeks ago (came with 2.3.x i believe).
If you know a thread that contains step by step instructions that will allow me to change the rom, please post it to me here.
Or if I´m screwed for updating to ICS just tell me so to
Cheers

Hello again.

So i tought perhaps there is a way to downgrade the phone back to the factory settings (not ICS).
But since i did the upgrade to ICS is the old rom still on the phone?
I mean to reset it back (same as thode recovery discs on a computer).
Any help or points in the right direction is helpfull at this time.

Now that you have upgraded to ICS. Those are the factory settings.
Easiest way to downgrade to GB Is by flashing a stock GB rom via pc Odin.
Most of the new ICS custom ROMs now just require you to install AbyssKernel 4.2, then select advanced options and select reboot recovery. Then you wipe your device (wipe data, cache and dalvik cache). From this moment you're free to flash. It all takes less then a minute if you hurry (joking, don't rush when flashing your phone), and it's not very complicated. Do it once and you'll know it's simple.
You need to have a root access first. Plenty of guides how to do it out there.
