[Q] Root-based SIM unlock? - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

Has anyone figured out or been working on a way to get our phones SIM-unlocked now that we have root access?
I know that there's the old way of paying a guy for the code, but this method was painless (and free, barring donations) on the Inspire and Galaxy S.
I travel a lot, and would appreciate not having to drag my old Motorola RAZR V3i out of my attic to use, now that I no longer own my Captivate...

Honestly, i have always had good luck with emailing ATT to get it sim unlocked. I usually just tell them i am headed out of the country and want the unlock code so i can use a pre-paid sim abroad and they have always given me an unlock code.

[Q] Unlock "deactivated" phone?

Hi-
I've searched around, but haven't been able to find any info on this particular scenario.
I've just upgraded my two G1s to G2s. I'd like to sell the G1s, but want to unlock them first. Is there any way to unlock them, since they've been "deactivated"?
Both are rooted, running Cyanogen 6.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Nipper
Of course you can! Phones are not deactivated, they are just not used at this point.
Call T-mobile and ask them for unlock codes. If they give you any crap, politely tell them that you did buy the phones from T-mobile and they have to give you those codes by law. You should get them within 3-4 days. Put different sim card in the phone to unlock it, it will ask you for a that code. Any sim card other then T-mobile will do (even if the phone doesn't support it, like Nextel's sims). AFAIK, you can not do it without non-Tmobile sim though.
Good luck.
Thanks - could I just borrow a friend's SIM temporarily, just to unlock?
As long as it's not T-mobile's sim - it will work.
Thanks, I'll do that!

Help subsidy lock droid 3

I have tried 3 different codes even one from verizon and still the phone is locked. The people in verizon told me that they only have one code for my phone and do not know why it is not working. Perhaps the phone has to be in the verizon network when in input the code.I am in Colombia right now and I am trying to use it with movistar. Thanks
Sorry for offtop.
How you taken unlock code from Verizon? I have code for my droid, but this code not from Verizon and not working. And I think code from Verizon will be work.
I guess it was just luck that i got a very helpful rep. I told the that i was abroad, that i pay in full and all that stuff.
Hi.. when i bought my Droid 3 in ebay, it was not unlocked. I asked the seller to ask for de SIM unlock code and verizon gave it to him as good client. This guy saved my life.
I am in Movistar Uruguay, and code worked. No need to use CDMA network to SIM unlock. Phone is superb.
Then I do not know what is wrong with my phone. I did exactly the same but the code does not work. I got the code from Verizon too. when i put it it does not work and it goes to subsidy lock. I guess I tried too many times and now it is in a different type of lock. Anyone knows how to restore it to original. I restored, flashed and nothing still the same.
i am trying to unlock and flash my verizon d3 as well global tech support told me the phone had to b active on there network to unlock there is a code for each meid# and things they do ota on there end also , they told me the phone could not b unlocked out of the country off of there network i am in the midst of flashing my to chinese ver.firmware but im not totaly unlocked i had a glitch flashing and had to restore factory now verizon needs to release again .,or so it seems im tryin to find away around it they only unlock each ten months
The whole problem with unlock codes from verizon is that I bet it's not the sim/network unlock code but the PUK or pin unlock key that's used to unlock the phone after too many invalid attempt but not to unlock the network/simlock. Pretty sure I can get my network unlock for bell for $75 after I've been in contract with them for 3 months and my account is in good standing. Just some idiot rep reading "unlock key" but not the first work and handing it out without really knowing what it's for, I've had it happen on rogers, bell and virgin mobile.
Ihave this same problem i buy an xt862 and a code on moto4unlock.com and dosnt work so i get a code from motorola and la this same that the moto4... So i dont know what to do same one can help me please

[Q] AT&T Carrier Unlock Process

I'm going to be travelling to Thailand from the US on Saturday and would like to know if anyone has been successful with calling AT&T and having them give you the carrier unlock code for the Vivid? I'm a long time AT&T wireless customer (since Cingular e.g. 2002ish) and not sure if that helps also?
I just want to be able to have access to data while in Thailand and won't be making any calls so was thinking I could just get a local prepaid sim card to get data the week I'm there. Make sense or is there something else I should do?
All thoughts are welcome!
You can get your Unlock code off of your ATT account. Login to ATT, mouse over "My ATT", then mouse over "Wiress", then click phone/device. The next page it pulls up will be info for your device. You will see a "Unblock Sim" link, click it and it will give you your unlock code and instructions.
Thanks for the info. But where do you enter the puk code. I type it in the dialer and it just dials a number.
* nevermind google does wonders. I need another company's sim to bring up the option.

That wont allow you to use a different carrier's sim in your Vivid. Its just to unblock your sim if its been locked. To unlock your phone to use on a different carrier you either have to call AT&T or pay to have it done online.

I need the phone unlocked, not the sim card. I want to use a carrier in Thailand other than AT&T. I guess I'll suck it up and give AT&T a call to see if they're giving unlock codes for the Vivid yet.
Please post your results from the call. I would like to know if you have any success and what needs to be done.
As jayv81 found out through google, you need another company's sim in order to use the unlock code from ATT. Why is that because your phone is sim locked. Whatever sim you get in Thailand will not work until you go through the unlock process. This process should allow your phone to work in Thailand, verify with ATT though. I had an old Nokia 6230 from Cingular days that I used in Turkey with multiple carriers after I unlocked it using this process.
I called AT&T and they won't provide an unlock code because the phone is still "exclusive" to them. Think I may try one of the websites out there to see if they can generate an unlock code for me. Probably worth $5 or so to give it a shot.
This is probably the most reliable place to unlock it but its a bit more expensive. I went to the site and its on special for about $17 right now.

After a bit of digging around I have a few questions/suggestions -
1 - Did you buy the phone off contract, or with a new line or upgrade discount? If you bought the phone off contract at full price, you have some more pull.
2 - I saw a post on another forum where someone had this issue with previous devices, and the front line rep he spoke with assured him this couldn't be done, but then he asked to speak with Int'l Support, and they were able to do it for him in minutes
3 - Also suggested was to speak with a supervisor and request that a case be opened. Once a case is open with the Case Team, they're more likely to provide you with the unlock code
This is not from personal experience, just some suggestions I've found. As always in these situations, it's best to stay calm and collected, while being assertive at the same time. Screaming and yelling at helpless reps get us nowhere..
Just use ebay 5$ quick and essey most use swiftunlocks and are reliable
I just used this $4.00 service and it literally took 9 minutes for the order to be processed and the unlock code to be sent to me.

They have an online process which is fully automated so it makes this a lot faster.
Oh ya, and the code worked fine with my AT&T VIVID. I have a German SIM card for my business travels and once I put it in my phone it asked for the unlock code. I punched it in and VOILA, it gave me a positive response and said it needed to reboot to complete the process. After the reboot the German SIM card was active in the phone.
Usually, you can unlock your phone six months after you bought your phone.
But I'm not very sure for them can let you go earlier or not. or do they have a temper code for you to unlock your phone.
you can try it, but if you have already bought it for six months, you can unlock it without any questions.

Is there any SIM Unlocked tool for Droid 3 XT862?

Hello
I wanna ask you guys if you know any SIM Unlock tool for my Droid 3 XT862 from Verizon. Firstly, I'm not in US, so for me contact VZ is impossible. I did purchase for the unlock codes from some websites, but non of them work. So my very last choice is praying for any tool that could unlock my phone.
If you know any one, or how to do that, please help me, my hero
Thanks in advance

i used it for my droid 3 and used the guide to get it working with tmobile in the usa but after unlock you will be able to use it anywhere. the guide is only necessary if you want to use it in the usa
the main point is my cell phone isn't unlocked GSM yet. I bought some code on internet, they are all the same code, and it doesn't work with mine
same problem here.
Did you input the code correctly?

Isn't Verizon known to replace the standard Motorola SIM unlock codes with their very own (which forces the user to contact Verizon to get the code, where they would request that the user have an account in good standing for x amount of months before they will give it up?)
This happened to me when I bought a Verizon Droid 2 Global during a visit to the US. No more Verizon phones for me... ever!
I purchased two codes from ebay both works

My understanding is that once user disconnects their phone from Verizon, sometimes Verizon will replace the unlock code with their own code making the code generators to not work unfortunately.
One can put their D3 on Verizon and receive the unlock code (as I understand - so, if you have a friend on Verizon who won't need an unlock code to ask to put your phone on his/her account briefly and request unlock code?). I made sure that the person selling me the phone got the unlock code and unlock the phone BEFORE selling it to me.

[Q] Help! Locked AT&T Moto X without anymore unlock attempts

Hoping for some help here. I'm a true NOVICE who bought a locked AT&T Moto X online. There were problems unlocking it and all attempts to unlock it using a code were used (not exactly my fault but it's a long story lol)
I've done some reading and I'm wondering if using JCase's ROCKMYMOTO method to root the phone using Cydia Impactor will also unlock it from the AT&T carrier?
(fyi I tried to install 'MotoRoot' and 'PwnMyMoto' but both were rejected — I'm assuming because the person I bought it from updated the Camera patch that nullifies the two earlier roots).
Any help would be great.

Bootloader unlock or sim unlock? Also, cydia? Isn't that an ios thing?
Pretty sure you are talking about the sim unlock which I know only gives a certain number to tries to get the proper code.
The only thing I can suggest is to plug the phone in so it has power and then let it sit at the code entry screen, with any luck after a number of hours it will again prompt for the code.

It doesn't bring up the SIM unlock screen anymore even when I insert new SIM cards. It reads my SIM as I can use theSIM toolkit and see my phone# but there is always the 'No Sim Error' icon at the top line of the phone.
okay well I guess there is no solution to it then... too bad I was hoping somebody would've had a suggestion or perhaps even an easy fix.
A heads up, if anyone here is with AT&T and wishes to stay with AT&T for the life of a Moto X I'll be putting a sharp Blue/White with Red accents MOTO X up on EBay pretty soon. It works great except it is apparently now impossible to unlock it to another carrier.
Cheers.

Did you try speaking with AT&T customer care? Surely there has to be a solution to this
Have you tried any of the codes from other Motorola phones that may bring up the unlock screen? I thought most of them still allowed you to unlock but forced you to wait a long time if too many incorrect codes were entered.
One of the codes I found was #073887*
Or leaving the phone phone powered up and turning airplane mode on and off after waiting a long time to see if the unlock screen will come back.
Even if you do root the phone it won't unlock it, the only way is the proper 8 digit code. I have unlocked two of them without a problem but they were Rogers Canada phones which seem easy(and cheap) to get unlock codes for.

I havent talked to AT&T as I bought the phone second-hand off of EBay. Plus I believe unlocking voids the warranty so I don't believe they assist me with it.

Thanks for some good suggestions I hadn't heard or thought of. So far no luck but I'm gonna keep trying.
I found a neat app on Google Play. It's for the Samsung Galaxy series call 'Galaxsim Unlock' and apparently once you download the app it'll do all the unlocking for you — ie. No entering the code yourself. That would seem to bypass my problem. I emailed the developer, 'Spocky', asking if there are plans to have an app like that for the Moto X and/or if he might know a solution to my problem. Fingers crossed!

Sim unlocking doesn't void the warranty. They should help if you still have service with them. If not, then don't bother. They don't care if you already switched to another carrier.

It's not that I switched service from them, it's that I bought the phone second-hand from someone who had AT&T service. It's IMEI is clean though. I reside in Canada so I couldn't get AT&T service as they don't offer service here. I don't think they'll help although I'll probably try to contact them since I have nothing to lose.
I'm starting to suspect that if I was able to put an active AT&T nano SIM in it then I might be able to get the network unlock prompt back by using some of the #codes like ##debug# or #073887*. When I try those with my Bell Mobility SIM it says unable to access network. I think I'll try purchasing a $10 or $20 pay-as-you-go AT&T SIM online and see if it nets me any progress. I don't want to sink too much money into something that might not work but another $10 won't really hurt. Otherwise, I was considering a trip to NYC the weekend after Christmas so I might have another reason to go.

With any luck it will work, who knows what rules Motorola has in place with respect to unlocking the phone.
You probably already know this but if you buy another just grab a Rogers or Fido phone, there is no problem getting the unlock code. The Rogers/Fido version also supports 2600 Mhz LTE which you should have access to. The AT&T phone has the hardware to support 2600 Mhz but the 4.2.2 version has it disabled. The 4.4 leak enabled it but I don't know if the official release left it enabled or disabled it. The Rogers/Fido also allows bootloader unlocking which is great if you want to flash leaks, root etc.
I've been able to pickup both of my Moto X's for great deals on craigslist locally.

The only thing ROGERS doesn't have is Moto Maker ...and my 'business', I suppose. I dealt with Rogers for years and finally had enough of their lousy customer service. Honestly, Bell is now getting on my nerves too. I suspect I'll be a Telus client in the next couple years haha

I hear you there, I've never been a Rogers customer in my life. I was with Telus for 21 years, same account/number. Just recently switched to Koodo because of a very special plan and Telus was not interested in offering anything remotely close to reasonable. Of course Koodo is Telus so I didn't really move much, the joke is on them, I get more service for less money.

No I am still unable to get the 'Network Unlock Code' prompt when I insert the 'foreign' SIM into the Moto X. My last chance will be a trip to Buffalo next weekend where I can try inserting an active AT&T sim (who it's locked to) to confirm it'll still work on AT&T and whether that'll be enough to get the code prompt to come back when I put a Canadian SIM in afterward. Once I at least confirm that it still works on AT&T then I'll sell it to an AT&T customer if I can't get it to work in Canada.
I am having the same issue. Although I have an AT&T SIM and forgien SIMs all active and can't get the prompt to show up.
I purchased a unlock code, put in the foreign SIM, got the prompt. Then put in the code (1 time), it said "invalid code" and disappeared. I cannot get it to show up at all again. Would love it if the #07.... or any worked but so far none I have seen or tried do.

Hi there, I received a brand new Moto X from Motorola this week. I contacted their customer service and after they verified the SMEI number to confirm the phone was not labelled as lost, stolen or from a delinquent account, they gave me an email that contained a promo code for me to use Moto Maker and customize to the version of my choosing. They also provided me a Fed Ex label to mail in my old Moto X that was not functioning properly : )
I recommend contacting Motorola directly. Thanks.
