[Q] Can't flash custom rom - false filesystem? - Galaxy Tab 8.9 General

Hey guys!
I bought my new Tab (P7300) last week and yeah.. the stock rom lags a bit.
So I decided to give it a new custum rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321142)
Yeah. Installing CWM was no problem.
But, now if I wan't to install the zip via CWM, it can't open the package (cant open E:/...) (bad)
I searched a lot, and found out that it maybe depends on the filesystem.
On my Galaxy S II & my old GalaxyTab the Filesystem is FAT32.
On those devices I also flashed custom roms.
So.. how can I format my file system to Fat32, so that I can flash the new rom?
Looking forward to an answer / link.

problem solved, kaserpsky deleted a file from the zip..

[Q] mod installing - i got stuck

Hi there,
I have rooted my i9003 phone and now I'd like to try installing this mod:
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=967297
but I have no bloody idea how to do this.
Notice - I have been looking through xda and google for more information, but failed
What to do with downloaded files? How to access system directory on the PC? Do I need just to swap the files?
Please help,
Thanks very much.
//i have got the rootexplorer
I think you move the zip file to your SD Card and enter CwM to install it? I don't really know. I'm a newb
Just to let everyone know, you need to download CwM, flash with odin (as PDA), then using your phone enter cmw app and choose to reboot with cmw.
Then you can apply the mod.

is the xxx zip file ??
try to install it with cwm recovery, not xRecovery
Thanks for help, but still nothing.. The same error with CWM... Yes, it's a zip files
Do the zip files have spaces in their names? If so, remove all spaces.
Another thought is that the files get corrupted when downloading. Maybe there's a problem with your internet connection or PC
I doubt it, though.
What rom are you trying to install?
Sent from my X8 using xda premium
1.My PC is okay
2.It hasn't got any spaces in it's name
3.I've tried so many ROMs like gingerbread and froyobread.
On my last X8 it worked well, but here..
Are you install cwm manually? If yes try do it with x8toolbox
Sent from my X8 using xda premium
Still the same...
Repair your phone with PC compaion then install CWM recovery put Prime HD for stock kernel on sdcard
if this does not help then try to unlock bootloader
Doesn't work, still the same...

Same problem with diferents custom roms, solved CHANGING SD for me(8G one for 4G, i don't know if SD's size was the problem)
Dude, check in the zip file and see if it is really a ROM. If it has two folders, one called "META-INF" and "system" it's a rom, else it could have a "date named folder" so it's a backup file (like in Matej's rom/eclair), you must extract it to the clockworkmod folder. Or even to give the installation aborted, it maybe means that the meta-inf ins't installing the rom or the system files is corrupted, try to download the rom again, but if it's your own rom, try to recompile it, if made with Winrar use mode "store" and set as .zip.
If nothing work, try this:
1- Format SD Card;
2- Save the rom in the SD Card again;
3- Reflash Kernel and Recovery
4- Try to install rom again.
Or even try to install clockwork, if you're using x-recovery...

Well, this is interesting. Can you tell me the model of the 8GB one? Can you test both of them with CrystalDiskMark or something and post the speeds here?

Size isn't the problem, I think, because my SD is 8gb with 2gb as ext and works very well with both x-rec and cwm...

[Q] Modding the official ROM (without root)

Dear co-members and developers,
ther is one question, that i have not been able to find answer for.
Is it possible to unzip/mount the official Galaxy Note rom, then change som apk (for exmaple i want to change the launcher for the TW5.0 one, or replace the originial phone.apk with another one) and after this, to flash it via odin. (i do not wish to root the phone)
Until now, i was able to extract the factoryfs.img, change the format to ext4 via simg2img (one of the tool i found on xda) and mount it (i could transfer files). But now, i am not sure if i can flash such edited file into my note without bricking it (since i change the filesystem little bit (as i understand the transformation process from samsung img to ext4 img).
Thank you for your answers.

Yes you can .But I doubt that it may give you triangle or counter. In that case, its better to root, install cwm, make your files a cwm zip, flash it in recovery....
Thank you for your answer.
The real issues is not really the counter, but the fact that i converted the "official" samsung img to ext4. I ma kind of afraid what that might do with my phone

may be the best way is to root, install cwm, make your mod along with other unmoded files into cwm zip, flash it to check if it works. If it work, then make a odin rom.
It has two advantages:
1.You can find if the mod works.Take a backup before trying the mod and if it dont work.restore the backup.
2.It wont brick your phone in anyway

Be careful the rom I posted was for Galaxy Ace!!!
Yes, It's possible, I don't know in mini ... this is the GT-S5830 Q&A THREAD so...
but the fastest way to go back to stock is doing a backup before to use the custom, and then restoring it when you want to go back via custom RECOVERY, or FALSHING A FRESH STOCK ROM VIA ODIN
...and in Galaxy Ace it's possible to use directly the lastest firmware, "one package fw"
i know, im using ace right now.
the thing is i was failed revert back to stock using one pack firmware (on mini). am bit afraid it happens to ace either. but now it's all clear, thanks for all ur helps.
edit: whoaa, we can backup stock on ace, it s not recommended on mini. thanks again.

well, the best way to avoid all kind of troubles is flashing a fresh stock via Odin
I'm using a bareboned stock rom, I deleted all useless apps etc and I chaged the kernel and stock partitions from .rfs to .ext4, so I have a clean backup ready to restore in my SDCARD, so I can flash whatever I want, and then when I get tired I can always return to my clean previous rom and I don't need to use Odin
am a noob so...
1. change the kernel? even for lastest fw?
2. how to change the.rfs partition?

well... you can change the kernel, deodex your rom, change .rfs partition format to .ext4 format and add more tweaks, barebone your rom... (not for a noob way) or the easiest way!! you can flash a based stock rom with ALL this changes done e.g. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1534804

I need to know which apps are included in /system. The problem is that there isn't enough free space in /system in this rom so we could use a script to delete whatever app in this partition that allow us to push su.apk and the binaries

you can try mounting manually /system and then doing the backup
go to mount and system >>> mount /system >>> back >>> backup and restore >>> backup

mm I guess what is your problem
maybe .rfs format , so try to convert your partitions to .ext4 partition, It would solve your problem
use CF-Root-S5830_ext4-v1.3u3.apk to convert .rfs to .ext4 format

Well you need a custom kernel to get an init.d folder or create it on yourself but the easy way, flash cf-root b84, BE 1.5.1. or whatever kernel you want, and you'll get an init.d folder support, so you'll be able to flash the int2ext script without any kind of problem

Install a Terminal Emulator app and type this code
Code:
su
a2sd remove
But it is not compulsory to install int2ext script, at least if you didn't flash darktremor script to activate app2sd

[Q] Installing gaaps from within Android?

Finally got my Sprint CDMA Gtab with broken internal Sd working on CM10.1. However I can't get the gapps package install and I don't have a working clkworkmod recovery ... It always gets clobbered.
Is there an easy way to install gapps from within Android?
Cm10.1 kernel definitely contains a cwm recovery.
How is yours without one?
Gapps is a pack of apk and files.
Read the updater-script in its META-INF folder and you can do exactly like what the script does, manually.

This is one of those CDMA Gtabs with the busted internal SD so all the partition assignments are screwy. The ROM I've had most luck with is the CM10.1 with the Humberos? Kernel... Don't know if it contains CWM. Every time I flash in the ROM it wipes CWM but if I reinstall CWM then the ROM doesn't boot so right now they are mutual exclusive.
Trying to install a gapp apk file with FileManager doesn't work... It gets going but then says install failed... I presume the partitioning is screwing it up.... Gave it perms and made /system rw, still no go.
Anyways I just reinstalled the whole thing, oddly I have to flash another CM10 ROM first with CWM (which doesn't boot) then follow it with the 10.1 ROM but this time I also did the gapps. Now everything is 'fine' although I still don't have CWM...
UPDATE: I see that others are finding their recovery clobbered with this Rom...
