[Q] Newbie to rooting Incredible S in linux - HTC Incredible S

Hi all. My Incredible S is bought and use in Saudi Arabia. Few weeks ago i did OTA upgrade with the below result:
Android version 2.3.5
Htc sense version 3
Software number 3.09.145.2
I am thinking to try out rooting this phone. Would like to do this in Linux as I dont have a windows computer. My laptop runs ubuntu and mint LXDE, they are not the latest releases but i think it does not matter. I'm looking for a complete guide how to root in linux. I found a thread below but the phones are not IS. I am not sure if they are applicable.

My linux skills are average. Any help or link will be appreciated.

First since you now have HBOOT 2.00.0000 your only option currently is to begin by unlocking the bootloader using the procedure at HTCDEV.com.
Next you would flash a custom recovery so that you can install the latest SU-3.0.x.zip.
I suggest you do some more research and reading about these 3 steps before attempting it.

Since you are new, I would suggest you read and study the sticky threads in the General section and the Development section.

How about goldcard? He can downgrade to hboot 1.16 then and unlock through revo.

Goldcard will only let you use an RUU from a different carrier. To downgrade you need to change the main version which can only be achieved with root access.

[TOOL] incsfree S-OFF, SuperCID, SIM-unlock

Hi !
incsfree a tool to gain radio S-OFF, SuperCID and (hopefully) SIM-unlock is available for beta testing.
The documentation of incsfree can be found at incsfree wiki
The tool itself can be found in the attachments of that page or using the direct link incsfree_02.zip
There is currently no HOW-TO guide for the Incredible S but the procedure is very similar to the procedure for the HTC G2/DZ/DHD that can be found at the wiki page of the vision Rooting the Vision (G2/DZ) and DHD. The differences are that you will use incsfree instead of gfree and that you have to use the engineering hboot image and recovery image for the Incredible S. (Please make sure that you use the right versions for the Incredible S)
If you intend to use incsfree i would like to invite you to join the irc channel #G2ROOT on freenode. I will not be available for the next 2 weeks but there are other capable people who will assist you using incsfree (especially pierre_ja and Nipqer are very helpful and capable guys).
You can use incsfree also in case that you already used alpharev or revolutionary to gain "fake" S-OFF by the patched hboot.
Warning The SIM-unlock feature has not been tested at all on an Incredible S. I am rather confident that it will work but if you want to use it, please do that only being assisted by people from #G2ROOT.
incsfree has only been tested on Software number: 1.36.405.1
It might be that it works on higher versions too or that the phone can be downgraded so that you can use it.
incsfree is released under the GPL v2. The source is linked on the incsfree wiki. Please respect the license !

I tried this on My GB updated Inc S. but it fails to reboot emmc, tried downgrading to froyo and got stuck in bootloop, is there anyway to downgrade to 1.36.405.1?
Can someone tell me if this should work in theory? (or if someone has done this) since apparently this S-Off tool only works on the old froyo 1.36.405.1 rom which means most people would have to somehow downgrade from Gingerbread to use it...
My idea-
1. Use Revolutionary to gain soft S-Off
2. Take the 1.36.405.1 PG32IMG, edit the android-text file in it to raise the main version to what my phone is currently running which is: 2.28.666.3. (So when the PG32IMG is flashed through Hboot, it thinks the 1.36.405.1 rom is actually 2.28.666.3) Hboot will allow the modified android-text file since the phone is now S-Off from Revolutionary.
3. Flash modified PG32IMG 1.36.405.1 rom through Hboot
4. Run Incsfree to get radio S-Off.
Anyone think this will work? I want to try it but I am afraid of getting stuck in a bootloop or a brick...

Hi!
Sorry I am on holidays so i can not go into details.
The way it would work is similar to the downgrade of the G2/DZ/DHD/MT4G as described in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912
As you see instead of changing the stock rom zip (which will not work because it would break the signature) we change the main version in the misc partion 17.
I do not know if fre3vo will work to give you temp root on your firmware version but the first thing you will need is a way to temp-root.
If you do use revolutionary before downgrading it does not hurt.
I will be back in about a week and would be happy to assisst you.

Ok hopefully you can help figure this out when you're back. I used the guide in the other thread and downgraded the partition 17 main version on my incs to 1.00.000.0. I then tried to downgrade to the froyo rom but got stuck in a bootloop after it finished. I ran the gingerbread RUU to get the phone to boot again and then tried flashing just the froyo radio via fastboot after changing the main version again but that also got me stuck in a bootloop...

I downloaded the incsfree.zip in the original post but on my windows 7 machine it won't open. Any ideas?, sorry for asking simple questions but I am so lost when it comes to HTC devices. I really just want to get this phone unlocked so I can try it out. I have no idea which provider is on it but it says it is sim locked.
I have no idea what S off is, or how to unlock and root this thing (Incedible S PG32120). Thanks for the help.

[Q] HTC HD7 Mango --> How to Mango interop unlock?

Hey
at the moment i have hd7 with official mango but i'd like to have mango interop-unlock ? I would need a complete tutorial . Does anyone know a good and easy tut?

Start reading and good luck!
what is about RSPL / HSPL?
I think that the links you posted are for the ones who have NoDo or below but I already have the mango final
easiest way to 'jailbreak' your WP7 device is with a Custom ROM.
check out the tutorial in my signature.
i already tried it but when I get to the step where I have to use task 00 I get an error..
but an another question is whether it is possible to flash original nodo over original Mango and if yes how do I do that?
I had Official Mango too. Used the same signature links last week and everything works. Win7 x64, HTC HD7

yes, it is possible to flash a pre-Mango Shipped ROM specific to your device, but only if your OSPL isn't 5.x

Well thank you for your reply!
I am absolutely confused!
I just want to upgrade to your's intrinsic 4.0.1 T-Mobile US edition.
So... following the instructions under your signature, first i am trying to downgrade to a different radio with HD7_RUUWrapper_00 (Ex. 1.20.531.01 or 1.54.531.02 or 3.01.531.02) but the bar on my phone stucks at 0.00% and then i have the error 262. tried different pcs and different radios.
Is it necessary to change the radio before doing that upgrade?
And is it possible to make that update via zune? (i mean to copy your's intrinsic 4.0.1 T-Mobile US edition files at some specific zune's folder and complete then the procedure some-how?
Thank you once again!

if you have Bootloader 1.54, you don't need to downgrade OSPL first with SPL_Signed.nbh
though, you'll need to XSPL before you can flash a Custom ROM or Unsigned Radios.
i do not believe it is possible to do that via Zune.

i have no experience in the matter, but from what i've learned from reading other posts in the forum over the last few weeks...
if you used revolutionary to s-off, you can't update to the official ruu without reverting back to s-on. there are numerous guides in the forum for that so just do a search.
if you upgrade to the official ruu, however, your bootloader will be upgraded to 2.0 as well (someone reported this after upgrading to the official ruu) and i don't know if you will be able to downgrade. so, if you are looking to upgrade, please know that there's a possibility that you won't be able to s-off your phone again (at least until someone figures out a way to downgrade from 2.0 bootloader).
ps just a friendly advice, try not to ask the same question in multiple threads just be patient and someone will answer your question (assuming that there's an answer available).

Why don't you just flash ARHD? Its the same OTA 2.3.5 Sense 3.0 plus rooted and you won't loose s-off. Check development area for ARHD Rom. Just taking my advice you gonna be fine.

if warranty is your main issue, the phone will be covered by warranty again once you revert to s-on afaik.
just do this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15732727&postcount=14
you need to flash hboot to original.
First, go to fastboot and install shipped rom version 2.3.3

and than go to first process to flash hboot. After that you can update your software to 2.3.5.

There is no simple one-click solution, but check out nonverbose's Downgrade Script for a easy to use tool that will allow you to get true S-Off and total freedom.
I am not looking for simple 1click method, just the simpliest method...
So if you could, I would appreciate linking to a guide for your suggestion..
I guess the simpliest methode is to unlock your bootloader by using htcdev.com (will wipe your device), then flash CWM and the latest Superuser.

HELP! Downgrade from ICS 4.0.4 to GB 2.3.3

Hello everybody,
I was quite happy with my Incredible S until I updated it via OTA to ICS 4.0.4 + Sense 3.6...
Before that, I had been using it with Gingerbread 2.3.3 (or 2.3.5 ?!?) and Sense 2.1 and it was pretty good! I mean.. it did its job without significant problems..
Last week I decided to do ALL the updates in a rush and now it's laggy and slow...What drives me crazy is when I type some text (text messages, whatsapp, browser web, etc.): the touchInput seems not to be as responsive as it was once.. and it is frustrating!
I read a lot about this topic and I discovered that it's a common problem.
I tried to install other keyboards, other messaging apps, I made a factory reset, but nothing helped!
Now I'd really like to downgrade it to Gingerbread + a lighter Sense because I think that Sense 3.6 is too much heavy for this stupid phone.
Since I was (indeed I currently am) a complete noob about mobile systems I need help from you!
My idea is to install a stock rom and not a custom rom because every custom rom have some drawbacks or flaws.. while the stock Gingerbread 2.3.3 was flawless (I swear!).
I read that it's not possible to install an older version of Android via RUU.. is it right?
Is it possible to do something without rooting / s-offing the phone? (I'm not sure about s-off = having root priviledges...)
I read all the threads but I didn't find a clear answer to my problem.. please help!
Thank you guys!
p.s. I'm quite sure that android gb 2.3.3 came with sense 2.1 while gb 2.3.5 came with sense 3.0
Sadly you can't downgrade with an RUU - that would be sweet. Since you are on ICS, i'd assume your hboot version is 2.00+. I'm not sure if you can downgrade that, but take a look around. Essentially, you'd want to install CWM recovery, and install this GB 2.3.5 rom with sense 3. Note, there are no radios, you will have to flash those as well. Unfortunately, this is the only way to downgrade. Also, you will need S-off.

You will have to unlock the bootloader using the procedure at HTCDEV.com. After that, you can use an unsecured boot.img to boot your phone and then modify the phone's version-main so that you can then flash the older GB 2.3.3/Sense 2.1 RUU.

Its as simple as that? unlock through htcdev and flash on older RUU? That would also work with a phone unlocked with an xtc clip right?

No, you misread the post.
1. Unlock the bootloader using HTCDEV.com
2. Boot your phone using an unsecured boot.img
3. Modify the version-main value.
4. Flash a RUU.
If you have a IncS that has S-OFF via XTC Clip, then you can simply modify the version-main value and then flash a RUU.

Gotcha, good to know, thanks!
well.. thank you for showing interest in my thread.
I understand that is not possible to downgrade without at least unlocking the bootloader..
so.. flashing a RUU is the same as flashing a custom rom?
After unlocking the bootloader I have to:
- flash a custom recovery
- flash a RUU/custom rom?
mmm.. is it really possible to install an older version of android while keeping the hboot at version 2.02 (like mine)?
I don't understand what is an "unsecured boot.img" and what "Modify the version-main value" means..
thank you again

Look at the Downgrade script sticky post and then download the Downgrade Kit zip file and take a look at it.
The script file has all of the functions you need. One the script is done, you should be able to run the RUU.
U have to relock the bootloader then run the ruu file (the one u choose) while the phone is in fastboot mode

Is it possible to flash Android 2.3.3 Rom on 2+ hboot?

Yes it is. You can use the downgrade script to reset your version-main so that you can flash the 2.3.3 RUU.
