Hello folks, my question here is what is thr simplest, and most painless method to root my incredible S 2.0 HBoot, 2.3.5.
I am just a casual user, and I want to root just for few root only apps, therefore I am not really experienced, so I would appreciate if you guys could help me out...

There is no simple one-click solution, but check out nonverbose's Downgrade Script for a easy to use tool that will allow you to get true S-Off and total freedom.
I am not looking for simple 1click method, just the simpliest method...
So if you could, I would appreciate linking to a guide for your suggestion..
I guess the simpliest methode is to unlock your bootloader by using htcdev.com (will wipe your device), then flash CWM and the latest Superuser.

Could some explain me the nonverbosescript method, from what I've heard, it may be close to easiest.
Here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1373697 you can read about it. After downgrading you can root with Revolutionary. I also started with that as a newbie, but it was very easy. But for me downgrading didn't work with windows vista with Windows 7 there had been no problems.
Good luck

How did you root? Did you use AlphaRevX to gain S-OFF and then root? If so, then you can unroot by running a RUU or flashing a ROM.zip file of an official HTC ROM.
Yes, I used AlphaRevX.
Do you know how can I get the RUU for the incredible S? I couldn't find it in htc's site.
Thank you.

Hello
I used the AlphaRevX process to root my Incredible S. If now I run an RUU, does it format all my data and programs installed?
I need to unroot because there is a new OTA for Gingerbread which I cannot install (it gives me a white triangle with a questione mark)
Thanks

Since you are rooted currently, you can use Titanium Backup to back up your apps. Also My Backup Root will allow you to back up apps and their data, so either one of those is an option before you try running the RUU.

Hi all. My Incredible S is bought and use in Saudi Arabia. Few weeks ago i did OTA upgrade with the below result:
Android version 2.3.5
Htc sense version 3
Software number 3.09.145.2
I am thinking to try out rooting this phone. Would like to do this in Linux as I dont have a windows computer. My laptop runs ubuntu and mint LXDE, they are not the latest releases but i think it does not matter. I'm looking for a complete guide how to root in linux. I found a thread below but the phones are not IS. I am not sure if they are applicable.

First since you now have HBOOT 2.00.0000 your only option currently is to begin by unlocking the bootloader using the procedure at HTCDEV.com.
Next you would flash a custom recovery so that you can install the latest SU-3.0.x.zip.
I suggest you do some more research and reading about these 3 steps before attempting it.

Goldcard will only let you use an RUU from a different carrier. To downgrade you need to change the main version which can only be achieved with root access.

Yes, you need to do some research. One option you will have is to use the procedure that is documented in the HBOOT 1.16/2.00 Downgrade Tool thread to be able gain true S-OFF. The other option is to use the Unlock bootloader procedure at HTCDEV.com. In both cases you will need to get familiar with the Android SDK tools adb.exe and fastboot.exe, so I suggest you do some more research.
Let me share from the GURU of Android on XDA Senior Member, YOU DONT NEED TO DOWNGRADE TO HBOOT 1.13 to Install Costum Rom. And I've follow that instruction how to do that I have made for my Inc S hboot 1.16 S-On.
Yes,first thing you should go htcdev to unlock bootloader and flash with CWM or 4EXT witch one. And you can install any costum rom from the bigger chief. Before do that after flash e.g Clockwork, you should Nandroid Backup. Pls consider to Backup your htc orig.rom and then you wipe, factory reset.and install costum rom om your SDcard....

I tried unlocking the bootloader from htcdev. I followed the instructions and did everything that was supposed to. I got the success message as well.
I just started the mobile. It shows "Unlocked" in rose color on the top. Same time it shows S - ON on the next line.

With the bootloader in an UNLOCKED state, you can now install ClockworkMod recovery (CWM) and once you have CWM installed you can flash custom ROMs. Check the sticky posts in this forum for the steps you need to follow.
So I'm wanting to install the OTA ICS update but it fails and I get the little red exclamation point when I try.. I am assuming this is because my bootloader is unlocked? I've been trying to find a way to install it but the only one I found was one requiring S-OFF which I don't have..
So basically my question is can I install ICS on my rooted unlocked bootloader?
If absolutely necessary I can always lock it, install, then re unlock it but that's such a pain.. AT&T gets on my nerves sometimes..
I am almost positive that you have to do the re-lock process unless somehow they found another way. You should probably read around next time. Most likely, someone has already asked your question.

I've read quite a few threads but haven't been able to find anything.. and like I said, I did find one but it requires S-OFF and the juniper thing, or whatever to lazy to look up the name right now lol, is not released yet.. and I haven't been able to find another way to get S-OFF..
If you want ics that bad you have to do it like every one else here...there is no reason to whine cause your to lazy to relock the bootloader ..it take all of about three mins for me to relock mine ... and about 20 min to do the whole process...you don't need s off to get ics if your using the vivid or velocity. there's no place for lazy people here so please just do it like ever one else or do with out
I'm fully aware you don't NEED S-OFF to get ICS its the only way I have found to do it with an unlocked bootloader if you even bothered to read my post. And if your going to be rude and unhelpful stay out of my thread, people like you are why forums loose members. I simply asked a question I never said I was lazy and wouldn't do it I was simply looking for an easier alternative.
The S-OFF is obviously a mistake, because if it was S-OFF then you wouldn't have to do fastboot oem lock.
Yes, you have to relock the bootloader. Make sure you kept your unlock_code.bin or else you might not be able to unlock the bootloader again.
To be extra safe you should flash stock recovery before you do anything.
Quick question going along with this, it may be stupid, I just wanted to make sure before I try anything: I'm currently on RumRaider and I want to switch to ICS. If I were to revert to stock and relock and then do the OTA update to ICS from AT&T, can I still get root with the same zergrush application or whatever that I used before?

Nice! Wish I found that earlier, right now I am probably going to use WhildChilds ROM since he has put so much into it and over clocked the kernel..
So, not 12 hours after getting my HTC one a few months ago, I unlocked the bootloader and rooted. I used this method: http://dottech.org/103429/how-to-ro...ader-and-install-clockworkmod-recovery-guide/
I knew I wouldn't get OTA updates, but figured I could flash updates via stock recovery. Apparently I can't. I get an error every time, so essentially I have no options to update. I have also noticed that there are a few little bugs that are quite annoying. So, my question is: Has anyone managed to either unroot and relock the bootloader in order to install updates? Or is there a method I can use to update my One with the latest HTC provided update? I made no changes to the phone aside from unlocking the bootloader and rooting. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this phone, but as we all know, having the latest update is a huge part of why we make changes to our phone. And with the 4.2.2 update arriving soon, I would really like to have an option of keeping my One always up to date.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Yes, after tampering the phone and even flashing the stock recovery gives a red triangle suring flashing ota updates.... I spent 2 days on it...
Get s off.... Flash the appropriate RUU for your phone, and let the OTA install itself by checking software updates in setting- about....
This will definitely work....

Did you relock the bootloader??? Relock and try to flash the OTA ...it should work... you can do this while being s-off...no issues...
ALright, so I guess I need to relock the bootloader. I assume this will also mean unrooting? Not entirely sure what the easiest way to relock the bootloader is. Any suggestions?
Now, out of curiosity, is there a root method that I can use after updating that will allow me to continue getting updates without having to go through this every time?

While you are s-off, you can relock you bootloader via a simple command....and to be frank i dont remember it, but you can see that command in S-off Revone Thread...its very simple.....you will have to do that via terminal emulator as you are not an ADB guy ...also unrooting the phone, you can see some vidoe guides out there in the stickies...
but i am not sure, may be relocking itself will take away your root access... just try posting this question in the s-off thread to get an expert answer....

Dammit. Still no luck. I'm getting the same error I used to get even before all this when i try to install an OTA. At first it won't verify the signature, but when i push it via CMW anyway, it starts and hangs on "running bug_fix_1" and that's it. No go. So all, this for nothing. Any chance anyone's come across this issue and has a solution? I'd love to get the update. There are a few bugs that really piss me off.
