[SOLVED]I've extracted the system.img from the RUU but can't figure out how to extract it. I've tried unyaffs.exe but end up with some sort of stack dumpe file (I think that's what it was).
[WORKING ON IT] Also, once I get it extracted, is there an easy way to deodex the system and framework folders? I've looked around and it looks like there are some programs and scripts for other ROM/Phones but nothing for ours.
Tried deodexing through the kitchen but it's not working. Just boot loops. Any help at all?

EDIT: Changed the topic name to reflect the newly found utility that helped me recover my files since. I had no current backup and did not want to start from scratch. Figured it could help if you ever find yourself in that situation or want to extract files from other rom backup.

Did some digging around and found a nice utility to extract the files from the .img. Extracted the system.img from the stock rom unpackaged it with unyaffs.
Here's the utility
Code:
Usage: unyaffs name_of_file.img
WARNING **This will extract all the files in the working directory**
I am trying to create a reboot option for my galaxy tablet. I am in the proccess of using smali/baksmali to edit some files...the problem is when I adb pull the framework jar there is no classes file in the zip. The only thing in there is the META-INF obviously and a file called preloaded classes...this is considered just a file, not a class file. Should I not have a .class file?
EDIT-------------------------------------------------
I looked, what I mean is that there is no classes.dex file
Thanks
Found the problem. I am using a stock rom that hasn't been deodexed. I had to use baksmali to deodex the framework.odex file. Of course if you do this you have to have the right bootclasses in the folder or the file will not decompile right, and from what I have read you need that to happen in order to compile it back into a odex file. I should deodex the whole rom, but I am still new at this and don't want to create a boot loop

so i took a look at the other threads except that they were no very clear, is there a program or something that makes it easier to extract the files. im just not very good at compiling programs and setting path variables. I have uploaded the motoboot img and the file i have been trying to use to extract it
Hi! I need a very specific system dump to try some mods, Unfortunately most of the tools I used no longer work. I tried with Ext2explore, Ext4Unpacker and some others but they all give a error message. What is the correct method for doing a Samsung system dump? I'm on Windows 8.1 (x64)
I guess I found the perfect tools right here on XDA: https://forum.xda-developers.com/s6...ol-tools-file-extraction-img-tar-md5-t3236605
Download the tool and unzip. Extract the system.img file using WinRAR o 7zip. Drag and drop system.img into NEWIMG2EXT2 This will convert the .img into a .ext4, to be opened with Ext2explore. Now that you have a complete dump you can deodex and start tinkering.
So, I unlocked the bootloader on my SM-G780G, downloaded the ROM that fits my model, region and all (triple checked it), however when I went to replace system.img, there is no system.img. I looked into all the files, AP and the others that I don't remember now, and the closest to system.img is super.img on AP, which is a huge file, as would system.img be I guess.
Any tips on what to do here?
You want to flash a custom ROM?
Also something about super.img:
Editing system.img inside super.img and flashing our modifications
I'm trying to modify my system.img (/system/build.prop) to include support for multi users. After struggling a lot, I've succeeded following your guide (that's an awesome work btw) to unpack, mount, modify, umount and repack super.img. Then...

You need to run an Ubuntu Linux operating system virtual box (or use an online emulator of Ubuntu and transfer files via Google drive)

files ending in .tar are archives you've got to open up. look in super for smaller archives.
