Bricked Devices
I've only added this section because lately there has been claim of people "bricking" their devices. There are 2 different types bricks:
Soft Brick
A soft[ware] bricked phone is one that has had its (boot) partition(s) ruined but will still communicate on a COM port. These are fixed by flashing the correct .hex files in Download Mode of QPST to recover the boot partition.
*Currently there is no known .hex files for our phone*
Hard Brick
A hard[ware] bricked phone is one that has had its chipset memory ruined. The only way to fix this is via JTAG to directly access the memory in the chipset and reflash it.
*Currently Riffbox DOES NOT support our chipset and HTC has started implementing "JTAG Fuses" in their phones blocking you from being able to flash the chipset.*
To be quite honest though, all of you end users shouldn't have to worry about bricking your device, cause its pretty hard to do if you actually read and follow directions correctly. If you do brick your device, whether you followed the instructions to the dot or not, its still your fault. Devs take no responsibility for your actions. It was your choice to do, its your fault.
Network Symbols Explained
*As I've only had AT&T, I can only speak for how it is with them.*
Firstly, AT&T stock LTE phones always showing 4G is a lie. It will show 4G wether you have HPSA or HPSA+. Technically 4G doesn't even exist. It's a marketing gimmick.
According to AT&T here is how the symbols work:
E(dge): GSM - The slowest of the slow.
3G: HSPA or UMTS - High Speed Pack Access and Universal Mobile Telecommunications System
3G(+): HSPA+ - An upgrade to the HSPA protocal. This is your average network.
4G: HSPA+ - Tower upgrade. Enhanced backhaul.
4G LTE: LTE - Long Term Evolution. On LTE you should typically expect speeds no less then 20mbps.
If you are using the RumRaider ROM (as of 1/3/'12) your symbols will appear as:
E - E
3G - 3G
4G - H
4G LTE - 4G
Preparing for ROOT
Firstly what is ROOT?
Where should I go to READ up on what to do? Check out the HTC Vivid SUPERGUIDE.
*Please make sure you read word for word, and use the search button to see if your question has been answered before you post.*
**No really, I'm being serious, read it word for word. If you brick your phone, its your own fault.**
Flashing ROMs
Now I obviously can't tell you how to flash ROMs because everyone is different, and I want you READING what the Dev has spent his time to type up. So at least humor them, and read it. Even if you think you know everything there is to possibly know about flashing ROMs. You might just learn a thing or two.
Some good things to remember (along with READING the Devs posts) -
Don't flash ROMs, unlock your bootloader, ect.:
If you don't know what your doing, don't do it. If you don't want to take the chance, don't do it. If youre just going to whine, don't do it. Its the simplest solution to not making a mistake and staying stable.
Don't expect it to be perfect:
Every ROM for our phone is a work in progress. And they'll be that way for a long time. So obviously things are gonna act up, things won't work, things won't be included, ect. Don't flash the ROM and then complain about something not being there, or being buggy. Especially if its stated in OP...
Don't spam for something you want in the ROM:
This isn't your ROM and XDA isn't your personal army If theres something you want really bad. Do some research, find a flashable zip for it. If it won't work with our device, ask a dev if they'd be willing to port it for you. If they won't then don't ask keep asking and bugging. If you are gonna ask a dev to port it for you, donating is a good thing to do. If one ROM has a bunch of things you want, and the one youre currently on doesn't, don't say "but this ROM has it". The solution is simple, switch ROMs. If your extremely picky on what you want, make your own ROM.
Read through all the posts before asking a question:
Sometimes it could be as simple as you messing up on a step or forgetting to do something. Sometimes its a known issue. A lot of times the answer to your problem is already in the thread. It'd save you (and everyone else) a lot of time if you'd just find the solution by reading.
Don't blame the dev:
If something happens to your phone, it is your fault. Whether you messed up or not. If you flashed the ROM, you took the chance. 99% of the time, it is absolutely because you did something wrong.
Keep a cool head if you make a major boo boo:
If something does go wrong, do not flip out and go ape crazy. No matter how bad it seems, a lot of the time there is a solution to fix it. Check to see if a solution has been found by someone in your situation. If not, then you can make a thread in the development forum. Post everything you did, any errors that popped up, and whats wrong. Be patient, stay cool, and do everything someone says to try.
Donate:
Donate and use the thanks button. The devs are spending their free time making these ROMs for you. They don't get payed to do this. Its a hobby for them. So at least make it a little more worth while for them. Remember they made something youre using, and most likely without them, you couldn't do yourself.
How to increase Battery Life
Firstly, let your phone deep sleep! When your not using it don't keep messing with it. If you think you got a text or an email, check the LED light (assuming you didn't change the settings)
Set the Screen Brightness down:
Don't keep your screen up at 100%...This should be a given. Typically Auto Brightness is enough but if your in an area where light is shining on the sensor making it brighter then it needs to be turn it down.
Turn Wifi off when not in use:
I know its convenient to keep your wifi on but I don't think you have any idea how much battery is wasted when you have no connection. It just sits there and searches over and over. Tasker allows your wifi to be automatically be toggled by your GPS location along with many other convenient battery saving toggles.
Vibrate uses more power then a sound notification:
If you don't need the phone to vibrate to notify you, don't use it. This is a very simple way to actually increase your battery life if you get a lot of notifications.
Turn off Data when not needed:
If you're somewhere that you know you won't be checking XDA, FB, or other data related things, turn it off. This will save a good amount of battery. If you still want to be able to receive mms, or emails, go to the Sync settings and disable the syncing of whatever you don't need.
Calibrate your battery
Technically every time you flash a ROM you should calibrate your battery or once every other month. This is the way I do it, but there are numerous ways out there to do it -
1. Let phone die
2. Pull battery, wait 30 secs, put battery back in
3. (Keeping the phone off) Charge to 100%
4. Pull battery, wait 30 secs, put battery back in
5. (Keeping the phone off) Make sure it still reads 100% when plugged in
6. Using an app or CWM Recovery wipe your battery data
7. Enjoy your calibrated battery
CPU Speed
Now typically I don't dwell into the area of messing with CPU speeds, using an app such as SetCPU, unless the current kernel isn't doing it correctly. This is because (IMO) the kernels default governor typically does an amazing job keeping the CPU in the areas it needs to be. The stock kernel maxes the CPU speed out at 1.2ghz. This is an underclocked speed (under the average rated speed for the CPU). The CPUs normal rated speed is 1.5ghz. So once again, 1.2ghz for improved battery life and still having a perfectly functioning device, 1.5ghz on the top of the absolute normal safe side. I say this because our device already runs hot even being underclocked. Overclocking is typically only for benchmarking although it does help some if you dwell in the area of high demanding apps and such.
*If you're on a kernel that doesn't correctly govern or just want to mess with the settings keep reading on; If not scroll on past to the next section*.
**Messing with you CPU speeds/voltages can cause your phone to freeze, overheat, and can drastically shorten the life of your device.**
Here is the settings that I use:
Main -
(On Demand)
Max: 1188000
Min: 192
Screen off -
(On Demand)
Max: 432
Min: 192
*At the time of writing this, overclocking isn't supported in any kernels, so until I update this, don't ask for the safe (if you can call it that) speeds!*
LCD Density
A lot of you have probably heard about changing your LCD density and are wondering what it is or how it works. Basically changing your LCD density changes the dpi (dots per inch or pixels per inch).
Essentially it allows you to go from this:
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

Rather then me trying to explain it any more then that, here is a good in depth article on the science behind it: LCD Density Explained.
Here is a good app to change your LCD Density: LCD Resolution
*When changing your density remember, the lower the number the bigger everything appears or the higher the number the smaller everything appears.*
**I don't know if this app works on our phone, I have never tried it. I have heard of it having issues on Ice Cream Sandwich but working fine on Gingerbread**
Beats Audio
*First and foremost stop asking for it to be cooked into a ROM, if you want it on your phone you can find the flashable zip here*
Now I know you're thinking, why is there a section just on Beats? The answer? This is one of those smoke and mirror things that I think needs to be cleared up. Beats is just a glorified EQ. All it does is clean up and amplify low frequencies (bass). Most phones that come stock with beats have speakers that are designed for it. Ours is not. Maybe if you have a pair of bass heavy headphones then yes this is for you...but even then you could just use a more customizable EQ and get the sound cued to how you really want it. As far as what it affects...just the music player. It doesn't affect streamed music, Pandora, youtube, ect.

i will also eventually come through and delete some of the chit chat in here so its just full of knowledge. Nothing worse than have to sift through a bunch of chit chat posts trying to find an answer...

One question I have involving battery life, I know with my Infuse, wiping the battery stats (calibrating) did absolutely nothing (don't ask me how/why). Something to do with the battery itself and how the phone reads it. So my question is, can anyone shed some light on if calibrating does make a difference for the Vivid?

From what I've noticed in flashing rumraider it has helped but then again it could just be in my mind cause I used to have to with my hd2. Honestly I guess a test would be the only true way to to tell.

Possibly. I'll try to look through the Infuse forums for some more info. I remember hearing it numerous times though. Maybe HTC phones do not apply... I'll let you know if I find anything.

as Entropy keeps telling everyone in sammy forums: "stop trying to apply HTCisms to this phone!"...
battery stats might still be completely valid here, but im not a kernel guy so i dont go that far into it.

Could the experienced vivid users that have setcpu compile their profiles for the less experienced for battery saving? Thanks

Rethinking my post, for proper question, and thread.

Wild Child found the following post about random restarts:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/htc-vivid/133049-random-restarts.html
Looks like un-checking the fast boot option found in settings power has resolved the issue in some cases, but it appears to be a hardware issue.
Might be worth listing here.

*UPDATE* 3/11/12
+ "Bricked Devices" | Due to the increased claim of people bricking their Vivids
? "Breakdown: How To RUUs" | This one shouldn't be needed, but its being spam asked all over
? "Breakdown: Flashing the Boot Image" | You'd think by now, people would realize you gotta flash a boot image or things aren't gonna work...
+ = Added
- = Removed
? = Possibly to be added in near future

If you can boot into hboot find the thread about returning to stock and follow those instructions.
If you cannot boot into hboot (softbrick) then you'll have to send your phone to HTC to get it fixed.

this maybe a stupid question, because the whole forum is labelled as such but I want to double check.
I live in Sydney/Australia. My father works for Telstra Mobile Net (the major mobile carrier down here) and through him I know where all the 4G coverage is. It just happens to be, where I live... and where I work.
So, I want to get:
http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile/ph...s_kwcid=TC|6013|HTC velocity||S|e|13819125193
This forum is primarily labeled as the HTC Vivid, am I looking at the right forum for rooting and ROMing my phone?
before this I had a desire and desire s (which died, I bricked it and I know it ) and I had so much fun romming and playing with these phones I want to ensure that the fun will continue with my new one.
Thanks team.

You are in the right section. If you get one, get a Telstra branded one (which is what you were looking at), last time I checked the Unlocked version of the Velocity hasn't gotten the hboot OTA update necessary for it to run ICS ROMs
Also I'm jelly of Telstras plans, I almost pay that much just for 2gb of data The whole $XXX for MMS/CALLs part of the Telstra plan confuses me though...

without a doubt I will be getting a Telstra one.
yeah, well. As I said my father works for them, so I get the phone on a staff plan.
its basically a $40 cap plan, with 1gb of data and I think its like $400 worth of calls.
i'll report back when I get it sometime this week.

Battery saving.
I have found great results with 2x Battery. It toggles the data connection for you. It will shut it down after about a minute of screen off when it goes into standby and turns it back on in under 5 seconds of wake up. You can white list apps too.

Yeha, I Have had the phone a couple of weeks now, and I am having battery issues. Worse than I have ever had before.
I have flashed the ROM found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544601
and I am using a combination of Set CPU for root users and Juice defender, which has some of the features you describe and more.
On a totally different note, is there a place where I can look up the means of a bunch of different TLA's and terms, these would be general ROM terms.... not just velocity/vivid/holiday. examples would be:
what does Deodexed mean?
what does Zipaligned?
what does MUU mean and stand for?
what does OTA mean and stand for?
what does CIQ mean and stand for and why would I want ot remove it?
Debloater, what does it debloater and why would I want to debloat?
if I find more, i'll ask. I am pretty technically minded so feel free to give me gory details. I just think it would help in my understanding of rooting and phones and what not what these terms and TLA's actually mean (TLA standards for Three Letter Acronym).
Thanks

Deodexed-Basically it just allows for customization of the roms like changing colors, etc.
Zipaligned-helps reduce ram being used when using an application.
RUU?-Basically firmware from the factory like htc will send out in a .exe file to make it easier to update software. Rom Update Utility
OTA-Over the air, type of update sent out to your phone from att, etc.
CIQ-Carrier IQ, way for att, etc to improve the phone by looking at certain data although it could also be used to "spy" on people and their activities which is why you don't want it. Ice Cream Sandwich doesn't contain it.
Debloat-Means to get rid of the carrier installed apps that you don't want. You can achieve this by rooting your phone and installing a custom rom or removing the apps yourself after rooting.

all-in-one root kit
First off I am a new user. Can someone please help me. I have gone through the HTC.Vivid.All-In-One\Vivid_All-In-One_Kit_v2.0 and everything seemed to be working fine. I got the token ring, submitted it, and did the unlock bootloader. All i get now is an error message saying "cannot load 'Unlock_code.bin." Does anyone know what I can do to help me unlock my phone?
Just spent another hour trying to root, Started from scratch with the hansons all-in-one root kit and still cannot get passed step five. I tried to do it from the HTCdev site and the same thing. Has anyone got this to work with the HTC Vivid?

Problems with MMS

Hey all,
Recently, I've been having problems receiving MMS messages from anyone else other than myself. Whenever I get on, I get a download button, and upon pressing it it prints the following message."The media content was not included due to a picture resolution or message size restriction". This is for all pictures, including those only a couple of kB. (Yes, I know about the 300K limit on T-Mobile.)
I was wondering if anyone had any solution. I've already replaced the handset, changed ROM's, and done everything short of a wipe. (And let's be honest, it's because I don't want to.) I could receive pic messages until I rooted/installed anything on it. After root/install/nandroid restore, I just get that message over and over again. Does anyone know what's causing this? I'll try to provide as much info as I can.
Handset- G1, I want to say it's a EBX0/31B device, but that's from memory.

This is a super frustrating problem, as my friends pic message a lot, and it's frustrating to never be able to see what they're talking about. I'd also like to see sweet nekkidz of my fiance.
Hey, at least I'm honest.
i've never seen that spl before.... also never had that problem before. you say you've nandroid restored...? and i seriously, seriously doubt its anything to do with apn settings.
create another nandroid backup, wipe, reflash, and see if its persistent then. i know if you have to revert it will probably keep the error, but it's worth a try.
and i know wipes suck. i have to do it a few times a week since its so hard to choose which rom i like best. but it's always worth a try. if that doesn't work, feel free to pm me, and we'll see what we can work out. i have a tendency to not check back on threads which i posted (mostly because i have so limited time to actually sit down and get on the computer, much less to get on xda-dev.)
hopefully this will work, or someone will be able to supply you with more help.
one more thing: you say you don't like wiping... have you flashed numerous roms on top of one another? if so, that could have easily caused this problem and im almost 100% sure a wipe will fix this.

Cell South Diamond android data prob.

my phone boots and runs android beautifully but my data connection does not work at all
also my wifi is not working.
anytips?
I have the same Problem
I have the same problem. I found a Link to android where the wifi is working
1111www mega up load. com/?d=Y1VDY673 (without spaces and without the ones)
Let me know when you get data to work. thanks
thanks that link is SUPER slow on my comp, but imma let it go
i have no idea how to get data, i think it is a problem with the apn settings and i cannot find any of that information for cellular south
does anybody hav access to cell south apn data, i think that may be wats wrong because the fone says it has "3G" and the up arrow flashes but the down does not and it goes no where
Phone Number is #777
User Name: [email protected]
This user name is usually the same as your phone number.
PassWord: (ESN Hex number in all caps)
Note: ESN = MEID for CSouth Touch Diamond. You can find it behind the battery.
That's the settings for setting up in WM. I'm currently trying to figure out Android myself. I'll post my results.
Edit: Alright, I figured it out.
Create a new APN with the home key.
In server, put #777. The rest is the above information.
did that fix work?
ok this still did nothing for my diamond, what build and kernel and stuff were you using?
Nothing happen to my phone either
i am about to throw my diam500 out the window, ever since i started tinkering with android, it has NOT worked at all, to top it off, it will not sync with active sync or mount as a disk, i want OUT i want REAL android i hate winmo rite now plus my rom sucks, its slow freezes all the time and the sad part is that its the best one ive tried
Lol, Try the gtx fearless rom on ppc greeks website. just google roms for cdma htc diamond.
I'm sorry for not responding, but I seemed to have it working at first. After a soft reset, it seemed to have stopped. Right now, I'm trying to determine another way using other threads I've found across the internet.
I'll try to find a fix, if I can.
Edit: Updating to the latest rootfs, zimage, etc.. Fixed the data problem for me. The APN I have set up is called "Android", APN is "Internet", and APN Type "Default".
Also, make sure you have "msmvkeyb_toggle=off" in your cmdline area of startup.txt or else you have an annoying keyboard that won't go away on the top of the screen. I had this bug during my first turn on with update, but I put this in before booting Droid again, so it may have gone away on its own.
Awesome

Awesome, Its actually working. Thanks
Another thing I'd like to add, is that you MAY have to enter Airplane mode, then exit.
Definitely working for me 100% now, though.
anyone having the problem of the charge light working in reverse of what its suppose to?
my charge light pulses when the phone is not charging and is off when the phone is charging. I wasn't sure if this was a cellular south problem or an overall problem.....or if I screwed something up

[Q] Updated F/W and now Internet is inaccessible.

Hello everyone, I hope I can get assistance from you guys here.
I recently took the plunge and updated the firmware on my device, so I flashed it. The main reason being that it always took at least 5 seconds to do something in regards to playing music. It annoyed the hell out of me.
Anyway, so I updated the firmware to JM5 and now I can't access the internet. I've tried adding the correct APN's, I've even tried rolling back to an earlier firmware, but again to no avail. It is so annoying. I've tried 5 different f/w versions and in each installation have tried to add the APN and reboot and nothing works.
I can use the internet via WiFi but that's it. I can't use the net outside. Did I do something wrong? Am I missing something here?
Thanks in advance to any kind soul.
double check your apn settings and make sure data is enabled..
also for wifi, can you not see any access points, or is it just unable to connect to them?
have you wiped data/cache yet?
T h i s i s a d o u b l e p o s t.
Thanks for the fast response!
Well, all my APN settings are checked. Data IS enabled (is there a switch to disable that? apart from Roaming?).
WiFi works excellent. It's only when I try to use the mobile network's internet.
How do you wipe data/cache?
did you try the super wipe secret code? the one in red?
Yes, tried that as well. That's the one where it doesn't ask you to confirm resetting the phone right?
Did that after every install. I hope it gets fixed. Reinstalling all the apps even with app brain is tedious!

that's right
i love that code, it's perfect for every new flash, and if you ever need to take the device back for repair, or resale
sorry, not sure what else you can do about the APN not working.
it's really weird.
does it work if you go back to older firmwares?

Yes, even using old firmware up until June, nothing earlier than that. But it should let me use the APNs right?

Just received the reply from the network (O2UK). They advised me that the initial settings they sent was INCORRECT. I'm a PAYG user, and I mentioned this to them, so apparently they sent me POSTPAID settings. *facepalm*
Apparently it is recommended that people check their APN's if it's the PAYG or POSTPAID version that they need, and apply it accordingly. In my case, all firmwares would install the POSTPAID APN's.
It's now running fine and dandy, and here are the settings just in case another person here runs in to the same issue:
APN: payandgo.o2.co.uk
Username: vertigo
Password: password
MCC: 234
MNC: 10
Thanks for all those who took the time to help out. Much appreciated.
And I update to FroYo and even with the APN's, the phone won't connect to mobile internet anymore. Pfft. Anyone have a clue or a similar experience to this?

USA ATT Thrill Running Gingerbread with 4G (Success)

Hi there,
There has been a lot of discussion about how to get the USA ATT version of the P925 Thrill4g up and running fully with 4g enabled and working.
I have upgraded my LG Thrill 4G from stock froyo direct from the AT&T store to Android Version: 2.3.5 with Baseband: L620_MODEM_SIC_01.1042.00 showing Model Number: LG-P925g with Kernel Version 2.6.35.7 and Build Number GRJ90. I assure you, I am too stupid to make any of this up, so if you are interested in reading the easily enough accomplished, very descriptive method, read on.
After many a try due to the numerous blind alley posts and dead links, here are my findings:
Ingredients: Tip: Download and extract these BEFORE following the process:
The flashing tool that I found here
The flashing tool fixes 1 & 2 that I found here
The driver that I had to use (attched) named "LGAndroidDriver_Ver_1.0_All.exe".zip
The rom/kdz that I found here
The program to root the rom that I found here
The cleanup program to remove the unwanted programs from the new rom that I found here
Fine Print:
1. Back Up Everything - This will wipe your phone, which isn't that big of a deal if your most important data is in the cloud with Google.
2. I created NOTHING. I just failed until I found exactly what works and could perform the tasks with relative ease, precision, and get reliable and predictable results. All the links and downloads here....please follow those links and give those people some love.
3. Yada Yada I take no responsibility if you roger your phone but good. I can help you, but I assure you, there are many other people here who are more experienced who would be happy to do that for you.
4. This post is intentionally verbose so that everyone can participate in unscrewing themselves from AT&T, please feel free to comment on your findings with this process.
5. Unless explicitly otherwise specified, run all programs as administrator, and, if you can, in XP SP2 compatibility mode.
(Relatively easy method): Read ALL instructions completely before proceeding.
A. Install Small Server And Modify It
I went here and followed the instructions - they are basic:
1. Download http://smallsrv.com/ - the latest version will do nicely
2. Install and Run program as an administrator (right click on program)
3. Go to Settings (right click on the top menu bar of the program)
4. Go to HTTP Settings
5. Change Port to 9002
6. Extract the Content of the zip file named "www.zip" into C:\shttps\www
7. Edit C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\host in notepad and add the following line:
127.0.0.1 csmg.lgmobile.com (click here for screenshots of all of this)
8. Save and close the file
B. Drivers, Parsers, and COM-Phone Connection
I followed the instructions here . Follow along!
1. Install Drivers (attached) and msxml.msi (found in the flashing tools you downloaded), then reboot your computer
2. Open Server Program, leave it running
3. Remove your phone battery
4. open your pc device manager (in control panel) and look at COM and PORT section
5. hold volume up button (only) and connect your mobile to pc through USB while pressing this button, and keep pressing until you see a new port has been added and installed in your COM and PORT section (about 15-20 sec), now you can release the button, be sure that port will stay apparent after releasing the button, or repeat this step (with longer press on volume up button)
6. At this point, you may/will need to point your COM/PORT (LGE MOBILE) to the newly install drivers (found at C:\Program Files\LG Electronics) so that the computer knows what device you just plugged in)
7. put your battery back and don't touch your phone again (edit: It took me a bit to get the COM/PORT to register, but when it does - LET GO OF THE VOLUME+ BUTTON. Alternatively you can, while holding the volume+ button, right click on the COM/PORT error you see and then start pointing the computer to the appropriate driver) Do not proceed until your computer recognizes the device. If you would like, you can map the PORT/COM to COM41 by clicking on ports, right click on the LGE USB, select properties, click on the tab port settings, click on advanced, change port to 41 and click ok
8. As an aside, you can also begin the flashing process below without completing the above steps by putting your device in debugging mode. That post is here but it did not work for me that way so I provided the instructions above for those of you who need a more certain method
C. Flash Phone
Open/unzip/extract the flashing tools to begin the flashing process with screenshots here
1. Install "B2CAppSetup.exe" and run LGMobile update - the ONLY error you should encounter is that LGMobile update can't find an internet connection. Good! The Server is working and LGMobile won't kill the update process.
2. Run as administrator "windows enabler.exe" and switch to the "ON" position( left click on icon in icon tray)
3. Your phone is already connected, so you need to Start "UpTestEX_mod2_marwin.exe", select and browse to your v20c KDZ file.
Set options emeregency, 3gQCT as pictured and press "NORMAL WEB UPGRADE TEST"
4. On the next screen, hit upgrade start
5. On the pop-up, hit clear registry, other country in the dropdown, and your language of choice (presumably english) and select ok.
6. The program will start the official LG Flasher - have a 5 minute coffee break.
D.Clean Up
Your phone is now flashed.
1. Hit exit on the LG Flasher and unplug your phone.
2. Press and hold the 3D button and the Volume- (down) button, and the power button until you feel a vibration
3. Once the wipe screen comes up, go ahead and clear out everything one at a time (the volume keys are up and down and the 3d key is enter)
4. After that, select the reboot phone option
5. Reinstall SIM card and External SD
6. Power phone on
7. Skip or exit all prompts
8. Set phone in debugging mode (settings/applications/development/debugging)
9. Connect phone to computer - device manager should still be open - make sure it picks up the COM/PORT - you don't have to hold down any buttons
E. Root phone
We're getting close - almost there!
1. You downloaded Megatron from here - open run.bat
2. It will root your phone for you (one of the easiest steps ever) by pressing enter.
3. The phone will restart many times. When run.bat is all finished, it will ask you to press enter to exit - do not remove phone due to the next step - just press enter and the window will go away
F. Clean Up
Clean up Rogers Bloat referenced from post here
1. In the Remove Roggers File folder, click run.bat and make your selections
2. I chose 1 and 3 and leave the APN alone
3. Then, press 4 to reboot your phone
4. Finally, disconnect phone from computer
G. Enable Data Connection
Set your APN to enable data connection (you should already see 4g, but you won't yet have data or MMS
1. On your phone, go to Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Mobile Networks -> enable Data Enabled -> Access Point Names -> menu button -> New APN ->
2. Place these values in manually: excerpted from post here
Name: AT&T
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: leave blank
Port: leave blank
Username:[email protected]
Password:CINGULAR1
Server: leave blank
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS Port: 80
MCC:310
MNC:410
Leave the rest of the fields blank
APN Type: leave blank
3. Save and Select APN
4. Reboot Phone
---At this point, you should be all finished with a working Gingerbread AT&T Thrill4G getting 4G on your phone, receiving MMS, etc. so go ahead and set up your google account and finish that pot of coffee.
I believe the last method for 4g works to get data enabled, but not at 4g speeds ( or at least their h+ speeds)
There's a method to update/replace the flex provider.HTML, I'm still not 100% clear on how to change that so i stuck to the method you laid out and have had no problems.
Besides, i keep my antenna on 2g mode only to save battery life, I'm on wifi at home and at work so i hardly have a need for their faux g.

Thank you! I had tried the modify flex.xml post and was met with force close errors. I experienced fauxG when I enabled flex as well. I know that it is different for everyone, so take this with a grain of salt, but my speeds were back to where they were out of the box when I followed this method. For me, that meant my speeds were doubled compared to when I used Flex.
As to the method to change flex.xml, I got a file explorer from the market specifically for rooted phones. Found the flex.xml file, edited the permissions and then edited the file per the post. Then I rebooted and lo and behold, it said 4g, but that was simply not the case in terms of the speeds I experienced.
The OP is a method for USA users that worked for me to get my full 4g working again. I also tested that with netspeed (i realize it is flawed, but that's what I use).

Ghosting is not a known issue on v20c. Can you specify?
A lot of people are experiencing ghost calls on v20c and I'm willing to bet that those who think they aren't don't realize when they do. I tried everything and still got ghost calls and missed texts. My wife would call my office and ask why I'm not answering my cell phone.
Oh yes. Durden - I remember your post. You are referencing, I believe
this thread
or

The majority of the complaints tend to center around using roms that were not in some way stock. This puts your phone out in stock Rogers, which I can't find any explicit issues with. I haven't put that in there because what you do with your phone after you flash is isn't covered in the post. I'm describing the method and providing the links, as stated in the OP.
The other type of complaint is from people using some form of 21. The posts I link to also have downgrade explanations. While there are several complaints, there are many happy folks. Here as well.
Interesting, thanks for the guide. I'll give this a try in a few days.
No problem. I posted this in general so everyone could take a look. I posted my findings in the OP - let us know yours so we can edit the guide for readability if need be.

I never rooted my phone or flashed anything but stock KDZs. No matter which one I tried I always got ghost calls. Most of the articles and public complaints come from others on stock GB especially since root for v20c has only been around for a week or so. This is a really good tutorial (albeit found a couple other places), it's what I did back when Rogers first released GB and I posted my own little tutorial. I honestly hope you guys don't miss any calls. I'm tempted to even try it again cause Froyo is slow as hell and freezes up on me a ton but at least I'm not missing any calls or texts. I would be very interested in hearing from all of you after several days. It seems like I went a couple weeks on Rogers GB before I realized how bad of an issue I was having.
BTW when you said "Hold Vol Down+3D+Power to get the recovery menu and wipe everything one by one" did you mean all of these?
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
wipe cache partition and package recovery
clear nv dynamic partition
I have been running v20c for almost two weeks and can assure you I am not getting any ghosting. How do I know? I use youmail, and get e-mails when I miss calls and/or get voicemails. All the missed calls I see in youmail are also on my phone as missed calls-usually happening while I am asleep. Seems pretty solid. As for my APN, I only set mine up for data as I could care less about MMS. My APN setup is
Name-ATT HSDPA
APN-phone
The rest are left blank.
Speedtest.net app confirms my data speeds run comparable to my SGS2 Skyrocket speeds (to be fair, I live in an area with 3G, and no HSDPA or 4G LTE as of yet). So all in all, I am very pleased with the Rogers v20c on my AT&T LG Thrill. Lord knows AT&T is never going to get around to releasing an official GB for it. As far as official releases go, you are probably more likely to see ICS before GB. Although, both are probably just pipe dreams. Thank goodness for XDA devs.
I use youmail too. Sometimes the person calling me got my voicemail. Sometimes they got "the subscriber you are calling is unavailable"
Thanks for this writeup, I followed it to flash over the Rogers gingerbread from the European open one. The only thing I did different is use drivers from Adixtra's writeup for the KDZ, for some reason the ones you provided wouldn't recognize the phone correctly. All I can say is wow, I totally forgot how nice it is to have the 850 MHz band lol. I never get less than 3 bars now, while the European one I would barely get the 3G/4G signal most places and would be flaky even on the EDGE network. And just a note to all the people confused about the whole "4G" speeds thing on different basebands: The only thing different about the European baseband is that you lose the 850 MHz band. From my experience, it provided the same 3G/4G speeds whether I was on the North American baseband or the European one, the only difference was in the coverage. But losing the 850 MHz band sucks, that's the one that penetrates buildings better I think.
good news i got everything downloaded and ready to follow the next step and http://smallsrv.com/ is down. what now

NP - that was a biggie for me too. I am glad you found a working driver. No one has really been able to isolate the ghosting issue, although it has been demonstrated that it is not a hardware issue. I would recommend using the driver provided to standardize the results of this writeup, though, for the others who are looking to give it a shot.

4G Touchpad + CM9 Any Rom Supporting 4G Yet?

Are there any roms that utilize the 4G on the 4G touchpad yet? I've poked around and cannot find anything.
Crickets......
Anyone?
I wasn't even aware there was a 4g Touchpad. But I haven't read anything about any of the roms supporting it.
4G touchpad exists!
I hadn't heard of it either, but apparently some do exist! From a Business Insider 2011 article (can't post the link b/c I'm a newbie): HP's 4G TouchPad Sneaks On To Amazon For $700 Before The Official Launch
Would love to see this as well!!
Any thoughts on what needs to happen to make rom support of the 4G's cellular radio happen? It is such a waste of my 21MBps cellular radio on my Faux G Touchpad to not have this functionality enabled in Android. Having this functionality enabled would make this the best Android tablet on the market (IMHO).
Happy to make reasonable donation if that will help move the project forward.
Thanks in advance for any insight.

It would be right at or near the top if they turned on the GPS, 4G and fixed Wifi. My Transformer Prime is cool, but no 4G, and the GPS and Wifi antennas are a little flakey. BTW, I just tweeted the Rootzwiki team to see wassup on TP 4G.

ok so it shouldnt be the rom it should be how your telephony settings are configured for your carrier. I'm using cm9.0.0.0-RC0-Touchpad-alpha2.
a nice easy way to get to these options that i prefer is by using elixr2 from the play store. here are some screen shots of what settings you can configure for your specific carrier. or you could always edit the properties

I appreciate theoretical settings. But until I see someone with it working (screen capture) tis another unicorn.
For any Sheldons out there that is sarcasm...
Given the rarity and cost of the 4g Touchpad, I'd guess your chances of seeing it working fully with Android as somewhere between None and Zero. All Touchpads have cameras, and there aren't working drivers for that, and I'd wager that's a bit more in demand.
It's a work:results thing. Best options are a) miracle, b) learn to write your own drivers for it.
The HP TouchPad 4G is very rare. So rare that I dont think they even released it like they did the WiFi version. I dont know whats more rare. The 4G version or the TouchPad Go. Chances of it working now are slim since no one really owns one. A lot of the developers are over on RootzWiki. Maybe try asking there. It could be something as easy as changing some code in some random file. But I wouldn't know. Good Luck.
There's nothing theoretical about having to have correct apn settings for your carrier. Its sorta important. Like it or not youre going to have to set them.
