So this is just a question as I was browsing through the rom manager program I noticed the HTC Holiday is now listed in their devices.
As I have been researching this phone I believe the phone was referred to as the HTC Holiday
Basically my question is, Is this the device to select or is it referring to an OEM or pre release handset or is it the same as the AT&T Vivid.
I hope that made sense, if not please let me know and I will do my best to make my question more clear.

It is the same phone but I don't know that anyone has used ROM Manager with it. I never used it on any of my other phones because I found it too buggy.
This is the first I have heard of it being listed on there.

I believe it is added as of today, I personally have loved rom manager though I understand your reasons for not liking it. I just want to confirm it is comparable with the AT&T device before putting it on and flashing what ever version of clockwork recovery it has to offer.... (I bought my phone at an early upgrade price so $350 makes me quite a bit cautious with it....)
I just loaded the recovery labeled holiday and you get stuck at the HTC boot screen. Going back to the recovery from the sticky. A later update might fix it.

Its probably obvious but your best bet would be to either get a friends phone to charge your battery or buy an external battery charger....
It's working for me
I have the Vivid and downloaded Rom Manager on a whim. Saw the Holiday, selected it. Tried to backup the Att rom, failed - needed cwm installed. Chose option to let RM flash CWM. The version it put on caused RM to puke when attempting to backup. Flashed CWM v5.0.2.7 from PC. Rebooted and mysteriously lost root. Had to pull the battery a few times during all this.
Rerooted using HTCSupertool, and RM has worked just fine since.
So some flakes, but when ironed out seems OK.
I did a nand backup and a restore just to be sure I could get back and both operations completed without error.
Waiting to get full charge on the phone then will flash first custom rom.

I successfully rooted and added the CyanogenMod 6.0.0 to my htc hero. It seemed to be working fine, but without any Gapps. I then attempted to add N1gapps and now am in an endless cyanogen screen - stuck. I know I screwed up, I'm new to this stuff, though experienced with computers. I have tried reinstalling, including deleting the N1gapps from my sdcard and redownloading the cyangoenmod 6.0.0 I used the Universal Android app to root and Rom manager.
I don't know what to try next.
Update: I had the good sense to back up before I did the change, so I reverted to the original and reinstalled.. successfully. Now I'm just a little hesitant to jump in and screw something up again. From what I've read, I should get GApps as;
gapps-mdpi-20100917-signed.zip
Is that correct?
Also, having read for the last 4 hours or so, I apologize if this is posted in the wrong spot, and for my lack of such knowledge.
Yea flash that one and you should b good to go & remember always nandroid backup good luck oh and u might wanna take that backup and make a copy and put it on your computer so you'll always have it

Well I would definitely try Clockwork, because from what I understand, it does the best job of wiping. In the worst case scenario, you may just need to get your N1 back to stock and retry from there if you wish.

A quick google search got me this as far as stock ROMs go: http://android.modaco.com/content/g...es-zip-online-kitchen-optional-root-insecure/
(keep in mind I don't have an N1, so I'm not an expert at it by any means when it comes to ROMs, etc. Speaking of, if you haven't already, you might want to post about this in the N1 forums here on xda. Obviously they'll know about your problem than me.)
Once you have the rock ROM and you're rooted, download ROM Manager from the market to get the Clockwork Recovery.
Hi all,
Sorry if i sound stupid, but I am new to all of this. I am trying to flash a gingerbread ROM onto my Rogers branded captivate. Currently I am running Rogers stock Froyo.
I have rooted and unlocked my phone using one click root, and the SGS unlock tool from the android market. I have also applied Ryans OCLF. I have busybox installed and the lasted version of Rom Manager.
However, every time i go to backup my stock rom using rom manager, nothing happens. I try to first flash the Clockwork Mod recovery, select the Captivate file and let the phone reboot, black screen with a yellow exclamation point in a white triangle with a Droid device laying under it. It will sit there forever until I manually restart the phone, at which point it acts fine.
I have backed up using titanium backup but cannot do it thru ROM manager. I have read countless forums, but it havent found a solution that works.
So i decided to proceed without a backup. I tryed to put the phone in download mode using the buttons so that I can flash it using ODIN but it doesnt go into download mode using any of the buttom press methods. I have tried to reinstall the packages from the boot menu, but i then get an error saying "e: failed to verify whole signature...."
I have also put a copy of the recently leaked gingerbread rom on my SD card and tried to install the ROM using rom managers install ROM from SD card, but i get the same black screen with yellow exclamation point and nothing happens until i maually start the phone.
I have no clue what I am missing? How to fix this? I have read and watched so many tutorials, followed all the steps. THey seem so easy on paper, but nothing that is supposed to happen, happens for me. Anyone have any suggestions on what I am doing wrong?
Please help!!
You need to follow installation instructions in the thread for whatever GB rom you are installing TO THE LETTER.
Which one are you trying?
You need to search for fixing the 3e recovery. 3e won't let you install custom roms. Also rom manager is just a gui interface for clockwork mod so in. wouldn't use it

I was trying to install the Official Gingerbread 2.3.3 for Captivate that was just leaked for the ATT captivate. I beleive the build number is I897UCKF1.
I do remember seeing the 3e recovery in the boot menu. Thanks alot, I will try to find a recovery fix and try that, then post the update.
Thanks alot for the suggestions so far. Its greatly appreciated!
Please for the love of all that is good in the world, do some research before you brick yourself for good. All of your issues would have not happened had you read more first before jumping in. I have seen far to many of these types if threads lately. Yes it takes a few hours to go through the threads but you save yourself the time you would spend (sometimes days) fixing your mistake.

Your absolutely right, I did ALOT of reading, been doing so alot over a few weeks. Unfortunately, (or perhaps, I did not do enough digging) none of the tutorials, even the ones for beginners that i found on this forum mentioned anything about finding a fix for the 3e recovery. No one mentioned that the 3e Recovery bundled with the Rogers version of Froyo did not allow the install of custom roms, it also did not allow backups. Thanks to Crystalhand for letting me know this.
Anyway i found this link which helped:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=909213
I am FINALLY able to make a full backup image of my stock ROM and apps using CWM. This puts me more at ease now knowing i can also revert to stock if i install a rom that is not working properly for me.
The backup is completing as I type this. I will update again once I am able to install the gingerbread Rom I wanted to install.
Thanks again to all of you for the help!
that backup is not to restore the stock rom directly from whatever you flash. that is an imaage of your set up on stock rom. so you have to use odin to flash back to that stock rom you are on then restore that backup and it will be like you never flashed anything at all. if you just restore that backup onto the custom rom you flash it will not work properly.
the app backup your making with titanium backup will restore your apps on whatever you flash, but the rom backup doesnt work like that.
I would suggest using designgears odin 1 click, becuase no offence but you seen new and that would be least likely way for you to hard brick going to gb... Good luck

Flashing is usually easy and safe (for the most part). But if something happends and it gets bricked u could always make/buy jigs. Easiest way to make I've seen is
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841512
Or you can buy them for about $8 maybe more depending your location (making em can cost less). The only thing I haven't tested the jig with is messed up bootloaders, example flashing gb bootloaders and flash froyo secundaries, everything else the jig works (atleast my experience)

But my fault, I forgot what I wrote in my own thread! imitenotbecrazy, go to the thread that Pirateghost specified, read up on everything. Also, I have written down some things just in case you have that backup issue. Try this...
- IF YOU ARE HAVING ISSUES WITH BACKING UP, pull the battery, boot back into recovery (power + vol down then select recovery) and try again. OR you may have to boot up and delete the old partial backups with a file explorer and try again. OR make sure your USB is no longer connected and try again.

So, to avoid bricking my device I relocked the bootloader, used the stock RUU file and upgraded to ICS.
Worked as a charm.
Installed a custom ROM, worked fine.
Installed another one, was great.
And then I changed to Dark Raider (link) and after installation completes my device goes black entirely. I can access CWM Recovery and everything but not the bootloader menu or anything else.
No matter what other ROM I try to flash, it doesnt work, and I can't get RUU going because I can't access flashboot.
Any ideas?
Which kernel did you flash? Did you do any other steps before or after installing the last ROM like factory reset, etc. Just trying to brainstorm some ideas.

I flashed the boot.img as usual that comes with the ROM, then did all the wiping they say we should on the main thread, then flashed the ROM.
What is really weird is that this is something I've done countless times before and never had any trouble. Even on ICS.
Oh and the device is still recognised by the computer, although not by the RUU file itself.
CWM Recovery works just fine but nothing else.
How are you getting to cwm? Normally you only access it through hboot. Are you doing the button combo?

It's just like when they had that bug on CWM Recovery that wouldn't let us charge our phones when they were off without automatically going into Recovery.

Because I've been everywhere in Recovery and can't seem to find Reboot into Bootloader. I find Reboot Recovery alright, into the Advanced options, and several ++GO BACK++s that leads me to nowhere. I keep pressing it while on the main screen of Recovery and it just blinks the screen and that's all.

By plugging in my phone into the computer via USB. It automatically goes into CWM Recovery.
I always try to follow the most up-to-date topics but rooting HTC Vivid on ICS was a bit weird and I used a tool I randomly came across with and had never used before, some SuperToolv3 or whatever it's called.
I was trying to flash the stoc AT&T ROM via .zip but apparently I can't access my external sd card via CWM due to the sweet fact that apparently iGo created a ext_sd folder by itself, and when I try to access the external sd card it goes into iGo's useless folder.

Yes, I do know how to get into hboot.
I press both buttons and nothing happens.
The RUU file was the 1st thing i tried, but it doesn't recognise the phone since it's not on the mode it should be for using the RUU.
Grrrr. And I'm not even in a country where this phone is sold so I really can't see how I'll get this fixed.
Well, I'm not THAT noob. I know how to do most things. I've played around with this phone for a few months now and never had a problem with it.
I flashed the kernel properly and then I flashed the Dark Raider ROM the way I always do. Do you think is there any possibility that this was caused by Dark Raider?
I couldn't've done anything wrong. I never did. I wouldn't wait months of practice to finally screw anything up now.

And it's funny 'cause a guy in the other topic (I kinda think it's the ROM's fault so I posted there as well, maybe the dev has any clue) told me I should plug the phone in and try to get into hboot.
Well, I tried just for the hell of it and obviously didn't work.
Every time I plug the phone in either to a charger or a computer I'm taken straight to CWM Recovery. Like that old bug it had that we couldn't charge the phone off without going into Recovery.
I left it in Recovery but I'm not sure if it's charging, the battery wasn't that low but after all this time it probably is now, so it doesn't hurt to leave it there.
But, like, if this was a complete brick I wouldn't even be getting into Recovery, right? And the computer wouldn't be recognising it.
Isn't there a way to access the internal memory of the phone through the computer? I'd like to try one last thing but iGo created a ext_sd folder inside the phone and now when I try to access the REAL external SD i'm taken to the iGo folder.
And I only saw that now.
Or maybe a way to make the phone recognisable by the RUU .exe file?
Apparently a series of unfortunate things led me to this.
Early this AM I got an OTA update to 5.0.2 on my M8 HK which also moved the WiFi calling icon over to the right of the notification bar and did away with the persistent notification. The version is 4.25.654.14 and I think there is a new radio (1.09.20.0209). haven't noticed any other changes yet.
HTC has the RUU posted already here: http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m8-harman-kardon-edition-sprint/news/

Looks like the stock browser icon has changed. I am not sure if that means the app got an update or the stock overlay did. The version I have installed is 7.1.2514183160. I am not sure what's new if the app itself is, though.
There is also a flashlight app that I don't recall seeing before. Hopefully that means they are going to implement the pull down shortcut for it.

Also, vmail app is updated (fixed) and can now be updated without general failure.
Just upgraded my HTC One M8 H/K. We'll see how it goes.

I have S-OFF, stock ROM, booted into FASTBOOT, copied the stock recovery.img from 4.20.651.10_full_firmware.zip using "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img". Booted into the OS, let the OTA install, phone rebooted and is now stuck at the white "htc one powered by android" screen after it shows the yellow Sprint Spark screen and plays the boot up sound/tune.
I have since flashed the full firmware using the SD card method (4.25.651.14_Full_firmware.zip) and the old firmware (4.20.651.10_full_firmware.zip) and still stuck at that screen. I now have it back with the updated firmware via SD card flash (4.25.651.14_Full_firmware.zip).
Did I do something wrong? How can I fix this without having to wipe the phone?

I was able to flash TWRP recovery with fastboot then I was able to do a nandroid backup and copy the backup from the phone to my computer. I also backed up the internal SD card while in the TWRP recovery.
Ran the latest RUU, which wiped the phone, but then after it booted and ran the initial setup, I put the TWRP back on and then restored the data partition of the nandroid backup, rebooted, and the phone had all of the apps, content, settings, text messages, etc, (as if I didn't loose anything), along with the latest update from the RUU!
No sense 6.5 or 7...?

Nope. It's probably coming in the 5.1 matience release.
Looks like HTC wants to degrade M8 to sell more M9s. They didn't change much M9 and all HTC lovers don't want to change the device. Hence, HTC making the M8 worse. Never expected such a cheap behaviour from HTC. With the new update batty life sucks, its worse than which I had in HTC One X. HTC how can you cheat your customers for your selfishness!!! checked everything, its Android engine and kernel eatng up all the battery (non rooted factory firmware). Guys please dont update your phone!

Silly talk... Don't you know it's always HTCs fault... Never ever the users.... Jkjk
Honestly, people should think and try to rule out their own issues before coming and laying down a flat out claim like the OTA is bad... Lol

Maybe you are right. But, so long the phone has been stable and the day phone receives the OTA makes it like a charge addicted and battery drains 50% faster than before. Honestly with normal whatsapp, message, phone call and few minutes of facebook access lasts for roughly 5.5 to 6 hours. Let me see formatting the phone.
I noticed that every time I plug my phone into a charger of any sort (wall, car, solar, PC) WiFi turns on.
I am on stock ROM and Kernel rooted, 2.8.6 twrp installed, S-on. 5.0.2 RUU.
Can anyone else rebut or confirm this?

Interestingly enough that worked. For some reason HTC didn't fully restore my settings after the RUU I guess.
What a ridiculous feature...
Thank you.
