[Q] w8 custom roms??

hello everyone!!
i just got myself a SE w8 .. i rooted it and installed x recovery... now my question is can i use custom roms for x8 on my w8.. which of the gingerbread custom roms have all things working with minimal bugs.. I read somethings and i felt ginger dx to be almost fully functional.. I would appreciate if someone can hellp me please..

Everything that applies for the X8 applies for the W8 too. They are pretty much the same phone.

they have identical hardware so means what is applicable to X8 will be applicable to W8. they were like twins.. ^^

did u succed with GINGER DX on your W8???

Do full wipe...and your baseband must end at 15.....

yes.. up to this time.. try to full wipe. is ever you have problem try to screen shot it and lets see whats the problem to it.. im planning to upgrade my device to V019 GDX but not now cuz im still playing some game. now im still using V017 gDX.

Everything that works on x8 just works on w8........
(tested on my w8),
But GDX has some bugs(my be on my w8, I dont know for sure)..... Other than that, all is well......

GDX v19 working fine on my W8
install using ClockWorkRecovery instead XRecovery
and full wipe
the cover almost same just the xperia word changed to walkman
and the price also...it just same machine!

wifi not working after upgraging w8 from 2.1.1 to gdx 2.3.7 v21b
after upgarding to gdx 2.3.7 v21b.
my wifi is not working, when turn it ON, it keeps scanning but i am unable to view wifi networks on my w8.
can someone help here please to fix this issue.

I had the same problem and I tried and succeeded by doing following steps:
go to xrecovery,
select '- Backup and restore' > '- Advanced Restore' > backup from list > '- Restore boot'
Thats all - repeat by selecting different backup with the above steps until you succeed.

nAa 06b + miniCM

have u install update chargemon+vold yet?

even i use gdx v21. I cant use my wifi sumtimes. and data also does not work now and then. alfs 05 kernal

did you tried to flash update-rom-chargemon+vold-AlfsKernel.zip in CWM?

just change to gingerdx v13,
it works fine on my x8

wifi error

Hi guys.... i have big problem....when i have alfskernel my wifi is working fine....when i put blagus kernel don't know name then i restart open settings wifi and then wifi put me Error....
i try full wipe and again same s*it ... then i put kernel nAa-08b and again same crap ... so please say what i must do i don't have time for update service again ...

Not all roms works on all kernels.
Read rom description what kernel is need/supported to use.

and what i must do now?

Use Alf v005
if still error re install your ginger DX
make sure you will Full wipe
when you still get error after u install your Ginger Dx\
Factory data reset

alf is not good for me .... i have freaking lagg with him

Use Linux dont use nAa kernel because wifi will not work with that kernel

yes thanks bro...linuxdx is good but one problem overclock? i can't move 600MHz and higher can't how i can fix this?

If its rooted then it has clock work mod recovery install, so just install rom manager from market and select reboot into recovery, have the custom rom's zip copied on your memory card, then after rebooting into recovery do wipe data and reset then select install zip from memory card and select the copied .zip file and it gets install new rom. Zeus is good custom rom, marvel v7 is also good

i tried using cyanogen mod v7 bt my phone went in bootloop at the time of rebooting then i had to install my stock rom again..
this happened twice so now i want to download a working rom
n by zeus n marvel are compatible with v20N only as they have stated...

did you do a full wipe before flashing cm7?wipe data/cache and dalvik cache through cwm.anyway since you are new to the forum check this thread.it will help you a lot.

i mostly use zeus 6.11 2.3.4 v20o version.zeus is very stable and fully working but some people experienced sods.here is the thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1454274
at the moment i use miui but some features are not working:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1588360
i have used them all from time to time and marvel is great too with aroma installer (gingerbread 2.3.4 v20o).very stable too:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473592
regarding your problem now.are you able to enter cwm?if yes flash zeus or marvel at first.check the development section.it has many choises there and you can find every information in the first posts.

In zeus gingerbread 2.3.4 v20o.now that i have miui it is 2.3.7.

The miui in the thread that i posted above is based on gingerbread 2.3.7.like cm7 which is also 2.3.7.

No you just need to have root access and cwm recovery.just remember to do full wipe before flashing a rom.

I think that you have not quite understand.whichever rom you are going to flash has a specific base.for example zeus has 2.3.4 v20o as a base.when you flash it your phone will have 2.3.4 v20o as a base.what you had before is irrelevant.since you flash a different based rom your firmware will change.take a look at the noob how to that i posted above.it refers to kernels and bases.if you flash nova rom for example then you go back to 2.2.2 froyo.if you flash miui you have 2.3.7.it foesn't matterwhat you have now.try to find some things on your own because we went way off topic and the moderator will close the thread.search is your assistant.

once youre rooted, it dosent matter what base youre using..... cos when you flash a rom you flash together with the base so it changes your whole phone software..... so its no problem switching between bases, you can even flash back froyo/ donut and go back to gb if you want.... but make sure you do your full wipes...
for roms,once rooted, only the type of device is specific.... type of base is not....(unless specified)
eg. you cannot flash an ics rom made for htc evo on your OB but what you can do is flash any kind of rom with any kind of base which was made specifically for OB

even if i downloaded cyanogenmod 7 it didnt work for me..
i wiped all caches(dalvik, battery stats, factory reset) bt my went in bootloop during rebooting n i had to flash my firmware again..

Did you checked md5 checksum? Maybe file was corrupted.

I have very specyfic problem. When I flash some custom kernels, especially Alfs for GingerDX v08a + GingerDX v25, nAa-11/-13 + MiniCM7 or other GB ROMs (read twice, Gingerbread only / naa-ics works fine with nAa's CM9) my phone is rebooting at kernel bootlogo. I tried to restore to stock Eclair, relocking bootloader but problem is still the same.
Update
Now I can't install custom ROMs also in stock SE kernel. What the hell is going on?! Begin was a few days ago, when I couldn't run phone with nAa's kernel and ROM. Then, after a day, there was a same problem with GingerDX on Alfs v9. Next - GDX on Alfs v8a > MiniCM9 on nAa-ics > All ROMs with custom kernels > Now = all custom ROMs, working only Android 1.6 and 2.1.

Have you full wiped ?

backup all your data n apps first, then
try to downgrade it first by flashing the X8 E15i 2.1.1.C.0.0._un.ftf
root
unlock BL
Flash the latest kernel
backup
factory reset, wipe batt, etc (important)
Flash ROM
Done!
flash nAa for miniCM - alfs for GDX

Yes, I do. Full Wipes, Flashing stock kernel & ROM etc.. Now I tried HACKDROID Floyo v0.3 + Alfs v7 + Fix for Alfs = also doesn't work.
Now it happens on any custom kernel, also nAa-ICS. I don't want to stay at stock. Maybe option "Exclude kernel" in Flashtool will help? I don't know what is it and I don't want to brick my X8.
Edit - I've updated title and 1st post because of new problems.

is still restart your phone?
if yes, try to root again...unlock, etc

Did you went back to stock before? Maybe you forgot to update baseband....

BASEBAND is the problem, after upgrade to stock you will have 06 and you need 15 - took me last 2 days to figure it out again Otherwise you will have just kernel bootloop

I've updated my baseband, and it works!!! :laugh:
