I have a rooted Bionic running kinetix rom (latest) and I am trying to use the Motorola Usb otg Cable (89454N) to use a standard usb mouse. However, when I plug in the mouse nothing happens and the optical light does not turn on on the bottom of the mouse. That mouse is tested and working on a computer and I have also tried using a wireless rf mouse. I did quite a bit of research on the net about this and someone was saying that the Bionic micro usb port does not output enough power to support it so they used a powered usb hub and that worked for them. Now, I did the same and hooked up my powered usb hub and plugged in power and hooked it to my phone and Bionic and now the light turns on but still does not work on the phone. (no mouse icon pops up and no response). This is the case for phone by itself, mirror mode on the tv, and webtop via hdmi hack. Any advice or help on this would be much appreciated. Or has anyone successfully used a mouse on their bionic? if so what setup (rom, mouse, cable etc) ?
I use a Microsoft Bluetooth mouse, works great. No need for any cables or extraneous hardware.

I'd like to avoid buying new equipment. I've seen a lot of people with bt mice working. Thanks though.

I got the bluetooth mouse and keyboard from Motorola's website for $30. One of the best deals that I have ever come across. The keyboard alone is normally twice the price.
I have gotten regular usb wireless mice to work on my Galaxy Tab to work just fine with it's dongle. Are you sure that your dongle is working correctly?
Are you docking your Bionic?
On the back of the HD dock there are 3 USB ports and that would have enough power to power the mouse. I would run the Webtop hack and get an HD dock if I were you. I've done it and it works great!
Sorry to revive an oldie, but I have an answer. The Bionic's USB host mode requires extra power(i.e. needs to be charging) in order to work. As of this moment, other than the HD dock or lapdock, there are only a few hit-or-miss options. (Edit)There's a thread in the RAZR forums that could hold the solution.

Does anyone know of any way you can use the webtop adapter on a laptop? I plug it in via HDMI and nothing happens. can you only use this on a tv/monitor?

Yep.
Your laptop only has an HDMI out.
webtop adapter
what exacly is the webtop adapeter
how do you use it if you hook it up to a tv without a keyboard or mouse? is there any way to navigate through or do you need a keyboard and mouse? I saw a video with the atrix had a hack to hook it up and it turned the phone into a mouse and such....wondering if that happens at all or not

at the vzw store the adapter has 2 more usb ports on it and the rep was saying you could use those ports to put the wireless adapters in to make a keyboard and mouse work. not sure if it works i just overheard the convo between him and a customer.

I think a better question is this:
Where did you find a laptop with an HDMI INPUT?

He didn't. He plugged his phone's hdmi cable into his laptop's hdmi port. It's the same port on either end.

If you plug it into the tv without the hack to enable webtop, without the webtop adapter, you get a "remote" screen on phone, which runs the media player. If the webtop adapter does what I think it will do, it will make the phone's screen work like the touchpad on your laptop, and give you a button to bring up the keyboard, which is what the Atrix does with the webtop hack. You can also tether a bluetooth keyboard and mouse to the phone.

I have a Lenovo with an HDMI port.
Any finding anything interesting about the adapter. VZW rep gave me one at a discount for a problem with my bill.
With the ammount of money ans headaches you would spend to do be able to do that, you're probably better off just trying to find the docking station for the bionic and selling your laptop.
FYI, the Droid BIONIC Support Bluetooth Keyboard & Mouse.
I Use the same on I use for my Tablet.
but here's a keyboard made by moto. A co-worker has it, and he loves it he says
http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/U...ess-Accessories/Atrix-Wireless-Keyboard-US-EN
Pretty sure there is software out there than does it... But its only the size of the phone screen... Look in google code
Has anyone cracked open a Webtop adapter yet to actually see what is inside?
Considering there is that cardock hack which was pretty much just drilling a hole and adding a micro-HDMI cable, the only thing triggering Webtop vs. mirroring mode might be a magnet.
I would love to find that out to be true. A four dollar cable from ebay is a lot better than the 30$? they charge for the adapter....
Hi, I have just got a usb host cable and I works fine for my pen drive but had a few questions to ask.
Is it possible to connect (via usb) Another android phone and access the micro sd from it to transfer files. The HD2 in question charges itself via usb host but enabling mass storage does nothing on the note.
I have tried my gigabyte wireless mouse and logitech wireless keyboard and neither worked. I have a BT keyboard so only really bothered about the mouse tbh.
I'm on the. Latest rocketrom.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The Note has native support for HID's like keyboards and mice via both Bluetooth and USB. However, when it comes to USB, the more basic the device, basically, the closer to true plug-n-play a device is, the more likely it is to work. Also, with regard to wireless keyboards and mice, depending on the power requirements of the tranceiver, those may or may not work either.
An interesting thing to point out is that USB hub's work fine. So if you have a powered USB hub, you could theoretically plug in a USB keyboard and mouse, and an external HDD (as long as it's in a compatible format!).

Hi
Have red around somewhere: On Android 2.3.5 the USB host function worked, but it was taken away on version 2.3.6. This is for the extended USB host functions. I have an OBD-adapter to connect with my cars computer and it needs this extended function. Likewise, there are Apps that can remote control digital cameras and also see "live view" from the camera.
I have 2.3.6 and USB pens are working and my compact camera work (in PC modus), I can read and copy files. When I try my external hard drive it won't work. Haven't tried with external power to it. (An alternative could be to use an USB-hub with external power to it. Haven't tried this yet.
I have understood that when you get to version 3.1/3.2 the extended USB host functions will work again, and also the ICS version 4.0. I'm excitingly waiting for an upgrade...
I have the original USB-adapter from Samsung
Not all USB pens or hard drives will be supported, as earlier mentioned...
I have not yet rooted my phone to start, but I bought the "travel adapter" that launches the web top app. Well it requires a Bluetooth mouse. Plug it all in I figure the screen would be like a track pad but no the cursor just sits there and doesn't move. Motorola said I need a Bluetooth mouse. Is there a way to not need a Bluetooth mouse? I would gladly root if needed... in the event that there is not a way will any Bluetooth mouse work?

bluetooth mice and keyboards etc.
pretty much any bluetooth device will work yes, with varying amounts of compatibility, much of what can be tweaked by software remapping to suit your needs... im currently looking into similar things bc i want to be able to take advantage of webtop etc. i purchased a moto HD dock, which has an HDMI output, 3.5mm headphone output, and a micro usb connection for charging. its a very nice dock, but it is lacking additional USB ports for connecting peripherals such as a wireless kb/mouse combo which kinda upsetted me, so i may get rid of it and purchase the more expensive one which has 3 usb ports for peripherals etc.. therefore i wont need to worry about fussing with bluetooth, and ill also save myself some money hehe.. let me know if you have any more input or if you get to try out any bluetooth mice etc bc like i said... im in the same sitch!
How well does sharing the bluetooth mouse with a netbook and xt894 work?

I am not sure if this has been brought up in the past but, I just received my Bionic Lapdock (yes I know but had to wait till they were $50 or so).
Anyway, I found the trackpad very lacking. Lapdock owners understand but, I had a Logitech wireless mouse sitting around after selling my laptop. It has the little micro USB receivers. I had previously set it up on the laptop (paired it, set the mouse cursor speed, etc.) So, I decided what the heck.
Well, it WORKS like a charm.
So, you can have a wireless keyboard and mouse that works with the PC and Lapdock. You just have to pair it and make all the settings before hand on the PC.
It makes things so much easier, especially SCROLLING!!! (scroll mouse)
My Logitech K400 wireless keyboard with trackpad works flawlessly on both my Razr Maxx dock and Bionic dock. Both are with USB ports. I love it. Turns your phone into a terrific HTPC.

Even better, a wireless mouse works on the Bionic merely by being attached to a powered USB hub.
great idea~!~!!
Has anyone tried using the GN2 with a Smart Dock in combination with an Atrix Lapdock?
Swyped from the closest Galaxy.
You will need a micro hdmi adapter. It will and can work, but it will simply mirror the display of your phone.
I've seen the same question asked on the S3 forums. People have even hooked up PS3's to their lapdocks.

Yes, some sort of adapter would be needed to connect the HDMI from the Smart Dock to the Lapdock. The keyboard and trackpad should work, though, so it will do more than mirror the display, I believe.

Anyone able to make lapdock work with Note 2?
Also any idea where I could pick a Atrix Lapdock up?

uhhh, dont see why the keyboard and trackpad would work from a hdmi connection alone. you'd need to connect the usb as well to enable input. then it just mirrors the display and lets you use keyboard and trackpad.
it wont give you the full atrix lapdock software suite as that was installed on the atrix itself, not on the dock.
Keyboard and track pad should work since smartdock uses 11 pin to use both HDMI and USB OTG. Has any one tried?
If we could somehow hack the power, by patching the microUSB out of lapdock, we could potentially have a stand alone laptop. Any ideas? do any experts think it is feasible?

It should work fine, but I don't own one to test with. The basic idea is to build/buy adapters to connect things up with. If you have a SmartDock, that will get the phone side handled. Do a google for people using the lapdock with Raspberry Pi boards. They have all the details for interfacing to it. I think they even power the Pi with the battery in the lapdock, so you could charge your phone with it if the SmartDock allows for that, which I think it does. At the end of the day, the lapdock is a pretty "dumb" device, it takes standard inputs like HDMI/USB, and doesn't seem to have anything to restrict it to working only with the Atrix.
