So I found this ridiculous: when you set your alarm in the stock alarm clock app, if you wanted to set your clock to say 8:50 AM, you'd obviously scroll the hour sign to 8, then you'd scroll your minutes sign to 50, except if you scroll "backwards" (because 50 is easier to reach going backwards from 00 than forward) it'll change the hour back to "7" like it's trying to be a real clock.
Now, is it me or is that obnoxiously stupid? Google is telling me, if I ever want to set my alarm (for example) for 6:59, I'd have to either scroll the hour to 7 then scroll back the minutes to 59, or scroll my hour to 6 and scroll my minutes forward from 00 to 59?
... what the dilly.
EDIT: This is problematic for setting time going forward too. If your alarm was already at, say, 10:50, but you wanted to change it to 12:10, you'd have to scroll up the hour up to only 11, then scroll the mins up 20 to make it 12:10. My inclination would be to scroll the 10 to 12, then the 40 to 10, but apparently no. (I also know you can just punch in the numbers, but, I just find this deal with the scrolling ridiculous).
why dont you just use the keyboardto set it? why is it a problem? yes it ticked me off a little too.. but not worthy of a thread

A digital clock acting like an analogue clock is ridiculous, yes. The OP is correct, it's simply idiotic. Just another example of Google half-arsing everything they do.

Its a digital alarm clock, not even a watch. My point is it shouldn't try to mimic an analog watch. it makes trying to set up an alarm feel ridiculous like Google is trolling us.
well honestly how much of day your is wasted doing this. I can't remember the last time I set an alarm

This is one of the worst comments I've ever seen hah. Simply because you have no use for an alarm, no one else should be bothered by its stupidity.
Op never said he wasted his entire day fiddling with it, just that it's ridiculous.

Calm down tough guy, by just using titanium backup presto chango alarm settings back up been like for over two years of restoring.

I agree. Its not a big deal.. why is it that every thread you make is one that is complaining.. deal with the clock or use a third party app. Easy as that

Setting the minutes first is a good idea. Thanks.
As I see it, onthecouchagain only brought up a problem he genuinely thought should have worked as would the natural mind. Don't see a need to make a hue of it.
The people that suggested sensible workaround such as typing it in and setting the minutes first ... well that's nice and appreciated.
There's no point in accusing someone of being silly or wasting time and space.
Take the case of the enter key being absent in the messaging app. True, users can get another app to do their stuff or they can press as many spaces as befits them so as to make it appear that an enter key has been pressed, but that does not take away the fact that it was senseless not to have the enter key in the messaging app.
Take the case of "the" phone or one of the other phones that does not receive or keep a decent signal. Again, true, the user could just step outside his home everytime he wants to make a call or have a signal booster stuck on his terrace. It however does not take away the fact that the phone itself has a problem.
All the OP did was point out a problem in the rational ... a problem that the devs could fix and / or help out with IF its brought to their knowledge.

It's not a problem or a bug. It's working exactly as it was designed and as most digital clocks I've ever used have also functioned. If he doesn't like the stock alarm clock there are many alarm apps he could download instead. I myself use Gentle Alarm. XDA is for development, if he wants to complain about life's minor annoyances he can take it to Facebook.
That was a really, really long post about a really, really small idiosyncracy.
I think it's annoying, but that's about it.

I'm starting this thread so people can keep track of my progress in rebuilding this for the Eris (or any other HVGA Android device, for that matter..), and also as a source for the download, once I have it closer to done.
That said, here's the original proof of concept (running on my Eris w/ ZenEXP-Eris Rev7);

That was about an hour ago, I've come a long way in that hour and will update before I go to bed tonight with my progress. So far, I've got the thumbnails shrunk down about 50%, there are now two updates shown in the main view (possibly 3 by the time I'm done, not sure yet) and much more.
This was planned to be done tonight before I logged off, and what I have together now could easily be used but I've decided to put a little more heart into it as it's polishing up very nicely, so stay tuned for the final release (soon!). This project won't take long to complete, but I do ask that anyone interested in this please be patient for the time being.. I'm only human and it's getting late so I will need to sleep eventually

UPDATE:
Ok, here is where I'm at now;
I've got more to iron out, though! More than I originally thought, in fact.. the biggest of which is a bad gateway causing Facebook to not allow status updates (I'm pretty sure this is the result of yanking this from another build..).
For now, the widget works great other than the above, but the app needs updating. I'll hopefully get something out tomorrow or the next day
UPDATE [06/04/2010]:
On account of me sending my Eris back to Verizon in exchange for a Moto Droid under warranty, I no longer have a device appropriate for working on this modification, but I will make an attempt at it with emulator. For now, I'm releasing my "source" files for others to work with to better the project from here on out
Here is the "source" files (not actually source files, just decompiled apk files) (MD5: 2082711287C469AA361F14E64FA2B7D4)
Here is the apk with a working widget (less facebook, someone needs to figure out the SNG Server error. The error appears on the Droid as well) (MD5: 93E9C7F1C3B635E375DD4428D76F2F17)

It's possible for someone with more thorough knowledge of smali editing to do this, but I wouldn't know how to just yet. I did see some strings related to, if I remember correctly, flickr while editing the widget but they're not functional at this time as far as I know.
On another note, I've released my "source" files and the working apk in the first post. The app is sort of ugly but still functional for the most part, the widget is beautiful and works except for the Facebook SNG Server error, which I can confirm is present on my Moto Droid as well.
Enjoy, and I'm sorry I can't continue this project as extensively as I'd like. If anyone modifies anything please post back here so we can compare

I'm unable to install the app. I've used linda and astro file managers and tried adb push. I'm not sure if I'm using the wrong methods
adb remount
adb push Socialite_fixed.apk/system/app
Then it goes through this long list of things but the app is still not on my phone. Any help please

edit: Signed version uploaded. Install through Astro. If you push to /system/app with adb you'll need to reboot your phone, and even then it's hit and miss and sometimes didn't show up for me.

Maybe that's why Linux doesn't have a "Refresh" button. (In Desktop)
Everyone knows if you press a button more than once it makes things happen faster. Example:
Calling a Lift - The more you press, the sooner the lift arrives.
Zebra Crossing - Even though the light is on, pressing the button again will definitely stop the cars faster.
Webpages - If that sucker refuses to load, hammer the hell out of F5 until it does.
Stands to reason if you ask me.

LMAO!! :laugh::laugh:
There can actually be valid reasons to refresh.
If a page has actually started loading, but is simply slow, then refreshing is going to gain you nothing. If, on the other hand, you have clicked a link and after 5 seconds or so nothing at all is happening then it can be worth refreshing - if you are on a network with an over-worked or badly configured router then it is possible for the DNS request to 'get lost' and hitting refreshing triggers the action again - how many times do you hit refresh on a page that hasn't started loading, only to find that when you refresh it suddenly flies onto your screen?

Possibly.
But hell no. There's no way I'm leaving mine on 24/7. No sleep/Hibernate. Just OFF. With 5 fans, lights, and watercooling, there's just no way. Fresh restart every time.
Stock Google Android 4.3( JWR66V) and running the Netflix app at all will put your phone into a sleep of death (black screen, frozen phone). You don't even need to play a movie in Netflix, just launch the app once since rebooting the phone and it will happen. Netflix is aware of the issue, as can be seen here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43950299#post43950299
edit: I don't have this issue with AOSP 4.3 roms. So it may already be fixed.
According to this thread there are many differences, especially for the kernel between JSS15J and JWR66V. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2382880

I didn't play a movie. Just displayed the page with the movie tiles and let phone site. Another time I exited netflix but it still happened after the screen went to sleep.
Can anyone who has the official 4.3 on their Nexus 4 and is a Netflix user check this out for me? I'd like to know if I'm a one-off case before I do a complete wipe and start fresh.

Giving a app a one star rating doesn't get Netflix to fix your issue right away, dude. Just send them a email on how to reproduce instead of giving them one star.
Its what 'we' get for getting first dibs on Android 4.3 when <5% of the Android population isn't even on 4.3. Were the guinea pigs, plus 4.3 just came out yesterday. Its still very relatively new.

I'd have sent an email if I knew who to contact that would actually read it. The one star might get some attention if a number of people do it with the same complaint. At least that was my logic.
Surprisingly I just had a chat with Netflix support and the guy said his team is looking at it now. For some weird reason he asked if I'd be willing to change my password to my account for 48 hours.. not sure why, but I did it.
You are now chatting with: Chay
You: Hello
Netflix Chay: It's a wonderful day at Netflix! I'm Chay. How can I help you out?
You: How can I get info to the android netflix app team about a catastrophic bug in the latest version when running android 4.3?
Netflix Chay: Hmm... what exactly is going on? I would love to help you out!
You: It's been confirmed by a number of people already. Launching the netflix app on nexus 4 running android 4.3 will put the device in a sleep of death as soon as the screen sleeps. black screen, phone locked up.
You: basically all you have to do is run the app, and exit it. soon as the phone sleeps you get black screen of death. need to hold down power button to force power off
You: I started a thread here on XDA to ask others to try it. And anyone who has has reported the same results http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2377304
You: Android 4.3 has only been out a day, so more will notice soon
Netflix Chay: Whoa that is pretty intense! I would be more than happy to help you out. I can't click on links but I definitely want to make sure we figure this out.
You: k, if you just foward this info to the netflix app team so they can test and fix it it would be helpful.
You: Unless you have a Nexus 4 and have Android 4.3 on it to confirm it yourself, there's not much you can do but let them know
Netflix Chay: I actually reached out to my research team and they are taking a look into this right now for you! Thanks so much for reporting this. Just hang tight for a bit okay?
You: sure
Netflix Chay: Thanks a bunch!
You: I'll be really impressed if they confirm it and start working on a fix. I thought this was going to be a dead end (trying chat).
Netflix Chay: Would you mind telling me the brand of your Nexus? That would really help me out!
You: I had given it one star in the google play store, with how to reproduce. And hoped others in my thread would too to get it attention. Until someone suggested I contact netflix rather then rate it 1 star.
You: I have the Nexus 4
You: with the official version of Android 4.3 that was just released yesterday
You: Any Nexus 4's out there should be getting the OTA updates, probably soon, if they are on the official software. Or it can be downloaded from googles webpage and flashed manually if they don't want to wait.
You: Here's the page if you're interested and your dev team needs to update https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#occamjwr66v
Netflix Chay: Would you mind changing your password to XXXXXXXXXXXXX for 48 hours please? That way my research team can take a better look into this and figure out what's going on.
You: I don't mind, but how will giving them access to my account help them?
Netflix Chay: I'm not entirely sure but my research team is going to try to recreate it on their device. Thanks so much for being so understanding. I really do appreciate it!
You: no problem. do you still need me to change my password?
Netflix Chay: Please, if you could change it to XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX just for the next 48 hours it would help us out so much.
You: okay sure.
You: it's done
Netflix Chay: Great! Thanks a bunch for reporting this issue. We'll do some digging and it get it all up and running in no time!
Netflix Chay: By chance, is there anything else I can help you with today?
You: nope, this was it
Netflix Chay: Sweet! Thanks for chatting in so I can help you out. Have a great day and enjoy your movies. And one more thing, if you wouldn’t mind, please stay online for a one-question survey.

Confirmed here too. Didn't happen before 4.3 with the new Netflix app.
I hope they fix it soon, trying to enjoy my new chromecast.
I just tried a test. launched Netflix, exit. Then force stopped Netflix. Pressed the power button to lock phone. Pressed it again, it let me unlock. Let it sit and sleep... sleep of death. So it happens even if the app isn't running, but was at least ran once that boot.
I've yet to find another app that will do this (thinking maybe it is a 4.3 bug). I tried some other video playing apps, plex, ect. But haven't found anything yet.
This is happening to me when Chromecasting. I have, however, successfully watched Netflix on my phone and closed the app without experiencing it.
Same issue here.

I was really curious, redownloaded all my apps this morning.. Just logged in...
Crashed.

Here's the link to Netflix's support chat. Hit it up if you guys want to complain and let them know there's a decent amount of people that would like it fixed

I still don't understand why that guy asked me to change my password to one he gave me... Not like I am going to keep trying to use the app and lockup the phone. And I can't see how changing a password would enable them to get logs or debug info.. but I guess I'll leave it that way for one more day :silly:
Same here with bsod when pausing movie and letting phone sleep.
So I went out and bought a s2 so I can play clash on the go with "editors choice" tablet lol but it looks like straight crap I have a 4 year old tablet that looks better then this thing and I can't find a solid answer as to whose fault it is here is a screen shot of my game

I believe its the only way until coc manage its resolution scaling differently. And even then...on android 5.0 to 5.1 they display differently. Looks better standard dpi on 5.1 than it did before
Damn my s2 is late version and I was reading they don't have root for it yet
Sent from my SM-T817T using Tapatalk
Yeah, resolution is a little messed up. But my main thing is the screen is way too sensitive.... when farming, trying to drop multiple troops at a time just makes the whole thing zoom in... it's not even playable because the screen touch is way too sensitive... it's obviously more than capable of running Clash.. I just don't know how to reduce the sensitivity... maybe get a plastic screen cover or something....
Ive heard people say that aswell i dont seem to have that problem as much my thing is it looks soooo bad now im leasing a tablet that i dont even use basically cuz of how horrible it looks i usually just play on the phone and until they come ojt with lte version root i dont really have any options

Ive had the same problem. Hoping for a solution soon but there is a work around. If you reboot your tablet and start COC it will properly scale in full resolution and it looks insane on this tablet (i have the 9.7). Sometimes you have to reboot more than once but usually once will do it. As long as you don't kill the app the proper resolution will stick. If you kill it in task manager or hit the back button until you get the 'Exit Clash' prompt it will revert to low rez the next time you launch it. Every now and then (seems like once a week or so for me) it will randomly revert back anyway. So weird. Then you reboot and you're good again. FYI switching users on the tablet (multi profile) will break this which really sucks for me cause i have multiple clash accounts. Anyway this solution has kept me at bay. Hope it helps others.

Hey good call on that this thing looks amazing now that's so weird though I don't understand why it would do that it obviously has the ability to look good so what's causing it to go low Def makes me wonder.

Hi. Do you have touch screen sensitivity issue where you think you have selected a troop but the touch does not get registered on tab s2 8.0? Tried hard reset, still no luck.
Hi, fierce Galaxy Note 9 owners !
Having this phone for less than a month now, in replacement to my Note 5, I'd like to know if any of you experienced some regressions : which functionalities have disappeared from you previous Galaxy Note phone, and what are the workarounds you found ?
To quickly begin by my experience, some regressions I've found :
- Loss of the ability to easily pick up the calls by voice (you have now to pass through Bixby, only in English)
- Loss of the ability to set timeout duration for lockscreen, after the phone have been woke up without being unlocked
- Loss of the ability to span a background image on multiple spaces
Did you experience any other regressions ?
I wish I can add anything here but I was coming from Note 4.
-no removable battery
-no IR blaster
-durable design
Didn't see any reason to move little steps and spend money in between Notes.
I dont like Bixby. It is redundant. The interaction is very slow.

Regressions from my limited exposure to this Note9:
-I used to have lag, now I don't. Maybe if I open 45 apps at once and put on power saving mode, I can recreate the lag?
-I used to take pictures of my kids with my phone, which resulted in them not smiling because they saw a camera in their face. Now that I'm using my s-pen with Bluetooth, I can surreptitiously snap photos in the moment. Now my kids look natural and are smiling. How do I fix this and get back to straight-faced stares?
-My battery used to die early and allowed me to remove my phone from my person and let it charge. This kept me from being connected to social media 24/7. Now I have no way to escape it because the battery lasts all day! HOW DO I FIX THIS??
-I used to be able to subtlely take out my phone and make a call or text without anyone caring. I'm an introvert, so this was great. Now, everyone wants to know where I got my phone, how I got such an amazing-looking color, etc. It's very uncomfortable. No fix in sight!
-Used to be able to have an excuse to delete photos because I ran out of space and was forced to analyze which photos were really necessary. The one I accidentally took of my feet? Probably can delete... NOW, there's no way I'll EVER run out of space and I'll have those stupid photos clogging up my phone forever! VERY FRUSTRATING!

Fair enough
Though, I didn't mean here to point out the ameliorations over previous Note versions : all the threads in XDA and myself having bought a Note 9 show them enough.
However, when posting these (software) regressions, I'm hoping that some might be corrected in next firmware updates.

It's not this timeout I was thinking of.
I was convinced that the re-lock time just after the screen wakes up was parametrizable. I was wrong.

Regression, I haven't been this happy with a Note since my beloved Note 3! What took Samsung so long?
My only gripe is that the swipe right to call or swipe left to message has been removed in Note 9
Was working fine on Note 8.

Try Pulse or Textra. Both are way better anyway.
There is no more simple "swipe" to unlock from lockscreen. So instead I use the smart lock feature, which is not very smart. It works about half the time. Not only that, I really NEED the simple swipe to lock. I WANT my phone to not be able to be opened up accidentally in my pocket (or other places) but I don't want to use a password, PIN or other actual LOCKING function. Just a simple swipe - does everything I need without the hassle of a more complicated security lock, which is not nearly as easy to unlock as swipe to unlock... I know I am not the only one who dislikes that they took away this feature. If you make it "swipe to unlock" on the Note 9, it deletes all of your biometric information. So in other words, you can't use your fingerprint to unlock you banking app unless you have password or PIN lock on you lockscreen. Stupid to make it this way Samsung. My Note 8 has swipe to unlock and I get to keep my biometric data.
