First, sorry in advance for the noob questions..
I am a first time Android phone owner. I ended up with the Revo because SWMBO said I could upgrade but only if it was free. Since it was the only 4G phone I could get for free (through newegg) other than the Stratosphere that's what I got. Otherwise it was the Galaxy Nexus for me.
Overall I am quite pleased with the Revo after dumping the stock ROM and installing Gingervolt 1.3. The only thing I don't like much is battery life but I understand that is fairly common among android devices. I suspect the ebay app is not helping but we'll see how it goes.
My last phone was a Blackberry Bold. I gotta say that the Blackberry has it all over android when it comes to email push. I don't much like gmail but yahoo's android app does a pretty good job, so I'm satisfied with it even if it does have to pull the email versus getting pushed. Also, copy/paste is far superior on the blackberry due to the trackball. I really don't like the way GB copy/pastes. It's a PITA.
However, after reading all 86 pages of the GV1.3 developer's thread, I see several references to supercharging.
I am assuming supercharing refers to the ability to overclock and/or underclock the processor. Is this possible with the stock GV1.3 ROM or is there an add on I have to install? I see there are apps in the market to do this. Is this the same or is this something different? I would like to overclock it a bit to see if that resolves the sluggishness the phone sometimes experiences and also see how bad it affects battery life.
In addition I tried to reinstall the stock LG weather widget by using ES File Explorer to put the .apk file back into the system/apps directory but it doesn't work. It won't show up in the list of widgets, etc. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks,
Michael

I'll get as much as I can with this as I'm on my phone
1. Thank you so much for being dedicated and reading up on what you did to your phone.
2. Supercharging is a script. I believe it is built into the rom already.
3. To over clock the cpu download the blitz kernel and flash. Then download either cpu master or setcpu from the market.
4. Idk how to do widgets like that:-(

1: Yes, I do try to read first before asking dumb questions. Even then I still end up asking them. Thanks for your patience.
2: How do I access it? I've looked all over the place in all the settings on the phone with GV1.3 installed and I haven't seen anything like that.
3: Where do I get the blitz kernel?
4: Fair enough. The instructions I read simply said to put the file "weatherwidget.apk" in the system/apps directory and don't try to install it. But from there I don't know what else to do.

Thanks for that. As you well know some forums are not nearly so friendly.
Okay so let me see if I've got this straight:
GV 1.3 already has V6 supercharger included, but how do you access it's settings? Or are there settings to access at all?
To upgrade V6 supercharger to the latest beta I need to follow the directions in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1379564 right?
To overclock I need to install the blitzkrieg kernal available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1371022 and then install CPU tuner to manage it?
How do you calibrate the battery? I read this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11803458&postcount=10 Is that how you're supposed to do it? It looks like that was written for a Motorola device
I also found this thread regarding tweaks and scripts? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1227269 I'm not really sure how to use any of these or whether I should use any of these.
Another note: I'm typically not a habitual tinkerer when it comes to my phones. I get them setup the way I like them and then leave them alone.
And while I am at it, since it's highly unlikely that LG or Verizon will upgrade the revo to ICS, do you think it will get done by someone here?
Thanks,
Michael

Yeah Gingervolt 1.3 has the supercharger already included, but there's no real way of actually accesing it. You might want to try downloading script manager from the market and see if you can find it that way. But if you want the latest version of the Supercharger, then ya go to the V6 supercharger thread in general and download the latest version. You'll need to uninstall the Supercharger built into the rom first then install the new one using Script Manager. The V6 Supercharger Thread should have all the instructions.
For overclocking, yes that's what you need to do. Blitz will overclock it to 1.5GHz but you can use the CPU apps to change it to whatever you like (1.5 or less).
To calibrate the battery, all i did was download the battery calibrator app from the market. You charge your phone to 100% then hit calibrate.
For tweaks specific to this phone, I would suggest looking at this thread instead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420199
We're all hoping MT, the one dev we have, can work some magic and get us ICS but we just have to wait and see i guess lol.
Hope this helped.

Yes it has, thank you.
And mega thanks to MT for all of his hard work. I would have sent this phone back if it weren't for him.
So this is the order I plan to do this. Please chime in and let me know if I am wrong. Hopefully soon cause I am starting now.
1: CWM backup
2: Install blitz
3: Install CPU tuner
4: Install script manager
5: uninstall built in supercharger
6: install updated V6 supercharger
7: Perform whatever build.prop tweaks I think I need to do
8: Calibrate battery
9: Marvel at the new found goodness that is my LG Revolution.

Lots of setting up to do in cpu tuner. Blitz and newest v6 supercharger installed. Phone is running nicely.

I'm fairly new to all this droid stuff and been learning all kinds of stuff from this forum. I have one big question and that is what is the difference between JF6 compared to JH2/JH3? My captivate has JF6 and I've seen the firmware updates for the others. Is there any major improvements or am I better off sticking with what I have?
I think JH3 is quicker and seems a bit more stable, its also newer.
One thing to watch out for is the logging that comes with JH2/3. There are some easy remedies to fix it though.
Im currently using JH3 matched with unhelpful's 1.2 Kernel v1.1 and SRE1.0 My phone is performing the best it ever has.

how is your battery performance now with jh3.
the gps on jf6 for me is amazing i've only used it twice but both times it was all good, very accurate on maps, so i hope its the same or better if it can get better.
Battery performace seems normal, maybe draws a bit quicker with the overclock.
GPS locks in 4 to 5 seconds. Then again i have some tweaks built in with SRE.

Installed and seems like this ROM is solid....no bug(s) yet....nice
Confused
This is supposed to be a blurless rom, correct? I loaded it last night, and def still has blur in it.... When I get home I'll have to see if it actually deodexed like it promised. Even Contacts are still blur...
I will say that it's FAST though..

All of the current ROMS have *some* level of Blur. Since we cannot bypass the Moto Kernel, there are some levels of base code that just have to be there.
Tranquility, Apex, zapX, and Rubix 0.5 were all built on the 2.3.15 release and then removed as much of the blur components as they could and still have it function.
Fission & Rubix 1.0 built from a base that came out of the Droid2 SDK which appears to be very stock Android and therefore, they are a little more 'blur-less' than others. Which is both good and bad. Time is showing that some of the blur components have some nice functionality that people are missing when they go completely blur-less.

This is absolutely true and was the same for the D1 except it wasn't Blur, but you can't build AOSP for D1 either without using the extract-files.sh to pull all of the proprietary components that make the phone work.
It's a basic truth about phone firmware.

From what I read you may want to do a sbf back to stock 2.2 then install this.
I am seriously considering installing this to test out but want a little more feedback from users as to any possible issues (mail/pop3 etc..)

Its running pretty damn good for me. And since I have Tasker set up to sync my data every 30 mins, my battery life is great also. I'd imagine it would be even better if I set it to sync every 45 or 60 mins.
Love TranQ3.0, and I never thought I'd be saying that.

So far, I've had like maybe one or two glitches.... sometimes after a reboot the boot screen gets left on the lock screen, so you can still unlock your phone, but you have to guess where the sliders are.
another is that the calendar widget doesn't work.
Other then those two, the rom is FAST, stable, and battery life has been great. Worth it to me in my opinion... It's not an ASOP "experience" though... it's more like a hybrid.
Like it so far though, it's my daily driver.
Edit: Also, this applies to STOCK people (running the 2.2 OTA).... I was odexed, completely stock..... installed this rom with ease: no wiping, no formatting, nada. AND it deodexed my phone for me.... LOVE THAT.

I have bought tasker aS well (the stock rom doesn't let the os sleep when gps is enabled so I bought it to turn it on and off for all my apps)
Now I like your idea of syncing every 30 but I use google voice exclusively. And the voice app. Does that mean if I turn off my sync I won't get my messages in a timely mater?

This rom also doesn't seem to sleep when wick is on. Am I missing something? Anyway I do see how this can save a lot a battery with the screen dining and everything. I had to wipe my phone to get it to work. Last time I tried when I booted every system app was force closing. I feel like this is a little slower than rubix but way faster then stock. Could be too the drawer just doesn't feel right. Too bouncy for me to use quickly. Ill probably go to pro launcher. But if I don't want to how do I customize the 4 apps at the bottom? Its driving me nuts

Hi, there!
Before I get started here, let me apologize if this subject has been covered before. I can't seem to get the forum keyword search function to return any results--at all- and I don't have time to read pages and pages of threads to find what I'm looking for. If there is a better place for this, please let me know.
I'm new to the Nook Color, and I'm running CM7 nightly release from 07/02/11. I love it, but I have some questions and a comment.
When the app drawer is open and you long-press an icon, it used to put a shortcut to that app on the homescreen. now it brings up this weird little submenu... What exactly does, "Choose Catalog", mean and what does it do for us? I REALLY miss that long-press to add shortcut to homescreen thing. Is there a setting that I can change to re-enable it?
Is there a specific thread to use to give feedback and ask questions about the nightlies' that is for the Nook Color only? I saw one for the nightlies, but it seemed that it was mostly irrelevent to us since all manner of devices--includung phones-- were being discussed.
I've just been using the CM7 nightly releases with Google Apps installed. Am I missing something by not installing Dalingrin's clockwork mod kernel? I was afraid that it was a replacement--not an addition-- for the CM7 nightly build. Should I install it? I'm sure I'd like to overclock my Nook to over a gigahertz, but I wouldn't like losing the stability and fumctionality of the nightly build I'm using.
Thanks in advance for any assistance y'all can offer.
Looks like the launcher is sorta corrupt. Try a different launcher that will work. Go Launcher EX (free) on the Market. Launcher Pro Plus is the best I think but it costs a little amount. Oh, but if you want to really stick with the stock launcher, go into Settings>Applications>All>ADW Launcher. And uninstall it. Then re-flash CM7 Nightly + Gapps and it should be restored.
First... on the launcher screen... use menu... more.... make sure homescreen is not locked.... Then it will do as you're used to regarding placing on launcher screen.
Actually... you don't have to unlock desktop... just wiggle finger when the menu you are talking about is up.... you will have to unlock desktop to move the item or delete it if you want.
Now I will edit this to answer more... just wanted it posted before you did anything as drastic as replacing or reinstalling your launcher...
The CM7 user thread in the Nook Color section is a great place for discussing all things NookColor CM7 related.
What the catalog does is....
You can place apps in a catalog... then when you're in app drawer then the left and right app launcher buttons turn to < >... use them to move between catalogs... ALL apps will still show everything... but in each catalog will show only the apps you add to it... so you can create a catalog called "Utils" and place all the Nook Color and CM7 utilities in it... scroll to is and ONLY those apps will show on the screen.
As for Dalingrin's OC kernel... if you're not using it and his NookTweaks... you are TRULY missing out... STRONGLY encouraged to use them.
Oh and don't OC past 1.2 GHz in NookTweaks.... it will give you SOD every hour.
Thanks for the quick response. I didn't know about the long-press-and-wiggle technique, and it worked like a champ.
Do I have to start over to install Dalingrin's mod? Does it replace this operating system entirely?

Really? What about some people reporting being able to go up to 1.6 ghz? One of the reasons I bought the NC was in hopes that it could run 1.3 or 1.4 ghz stable.

That is a pretty dumb blanket statement especially when there is a percentage of users who have hit 1.3GHz and higher without getting a sod. I get them less then once a day. I used to get them as often when I was at 1.2GHz. So please don't misinform people

Well, when I went any higher than 1.2 GHz, I got sod every other hour. When I clocked up to 1600 Mhz, the thing got SOD like every 5 minutes.
EDIT: @PoisonWolf, do you know how to get up to 1.6 GHz no SOD? I would love to be faster than the Flyer... which is double the price.
C'mon, people. We provide feedback based on our own experiences and it's not always 100% true but still, no need to use harsh words to correct the mis-info. Be nice and together we can build a strong community.
Anyway, even though I'm using Dalingrin OC 063001 version and nookcolortweak installed, I cannot ever seen any option to overclock greater 1200MHz, how do you guy get up to 1.3GHz, left alone 1.6GHz? What kernel do you use?

Well, to be able to get up to 1.6ghz, that is really the luck of the draw. I would gather that the manufacturing process is not perfect and not all chips can achieve such speeds. If anything, I would imagine there to be a range on the "limits" of these chips.
I found out that mine was 1350 mhz. No matter what I did, anything higher than that resulted in clunky responses, choking, skipping, etc.
I was hoping I'd get something in the 1.5 ghz range, but ah well.
Thus, I now run it at 1.3 ghz ondemand!
Just tinker around with the combinations / voltages / governors to see what your true limitation is. While you are doing this, do NOT set anything ON BOOT.

Same Kernel with U.
Most Nooks go around 1.200-1.300mhz.Some few lucky can go a bit more.
Got it,
Thanks Ras
Someone PLEASE give me some good proper settings for the SetCPU. I have VEGAn TAB Gingerbread Edition 7.0. Kernal Version says: 2.6.32.36-cyanogenmod [email protected] #1.
I know someone on here is using this...so let me know how to set this up using my G Tablet.
I want faster performance at the same time...extending battery life a little. Either way..nothing to make it overheat tho.
Let me even know the specs i posted will work with SetCPU. Thanks.
Performance and battery life are opposites. You have to underclock to get more battery life.
Oh.. and it's a kernel not kernal.

Typo in my spelling. But theres a middle where you can set to get a little of each. Anyway...anyone??????????
Not gonna happen. If you do anything to make it faster it increases power consumption, period. The On Demand governor, default, does the best job of letting you go 100% when you want and drop to a low freq when you are idle.

Ok..are you using this? Would you know any good settings for this GTab? I dont wanna do anything and overheat it or put the wrong settings and stuff. You know. Any bad side effects?
Edit: Dumb question but...if i use this plugged in alot...in my room..then all the power it uses would be for the good right? can't kill the battery then.
Edit 2: One more question..if there was something you didnt like about it...does just uninstalling it put your phone right back to how it was? Or a little more tweaking you need to do before you uninstall?

As I recall, running VEGan 7.0 I used SetCPU no higher than 1.2 w/interactive. No noticeable drag or heat. Perhsoot builds great kernels but I seem to recall using Blades or Clemsyn but could be wrong. Unless you find a way to clock so far out of parameters (voltage/speed) I seriously doubt you can irreparably fry your GTab. Using the wrong power adapter would be more likely to nuke a tab. IMO.
Using plugged in logically it's a wash as you use what you charge. I'm no expert in electronics. Others may have more input here.
I have always re-flashed ROMs to reset. That way you know you cover the custom kernel. Some have had success flashing only the kernel. YMMV.
Always proceed after a good backup!

Thanks alot for the reply. See...i don't flash or anything like that. Haven't took the time to learn it..when i know i need to.
I was hoping no kind of reflashing was involved. So your saying uninstalling it may not put things back like it was?
Also curious on this one..that "Set to Boot" thing..if you DON'T check that...does that mean whenever you reboot...it goes back to normal? And you have to open SetCPU again and again to set it up?
And of course checking it would mean it stays that way i guess. Just heard a few weird stories that you can't uninstall it. But even if i do..wanted to seriously know if everything will go back like it was. Thanks again.

Not a problem. We were all noobies at one time!
Flashing sounds like trouble but if/when done right it's simple. Trust me, you will one day laugh at remembering how anxious you were about it.
Check your other post. Doing a nandroid backup thru CWM will make a FULL BACKUP of everything on your GTab as it is right now. It's way simple to do really and can save your ass if something goes wrong.
Set To Boot means just what you think. If you leave it unchecked your GTab will revert to stock speed. Set To Boot means when your GTab reboots it goes back to overclock speed you set.

Yea..had a feeling thats what the BOOT part meant. Just wanna be sure. And the ROM manager thing..im getting ALOT of negative things about it working NOT good with the GTab. Even my thread on here has a few people saying that. My gut keeps telling me when i try this...something will go wrong...then ill thing " Why did i have to try this..there was nothing wrong with my Tablet before this". You know. That lil voice.
Thats true about how we are were the same at one time. I hate when certain people think they never were. Funny.
Are there teps to nandroid backup without that ROM Manager? I want the easiest way possible.
Plus...how can i tell which Bootloader i am...you know..they say its either 1.1 or 1.2. I bought mine already flashed. Cant get ahold of the dude to ask him.

OK. How to tell what bootloader you have....here.
Install CWM Guide here.
CWM is the only way I know of to do a complete nandroid backup. Installing CWM just for that makes it indispensable.
ROM Manager on the GTab is iffy at best. Works well on other tablet but not so much on GTab. I used it for informational purposes only.
I know that "little voice". We all have heard it. But having a full backup helps quiet it. I would not suggest you get to tweaking until you have a nandroid backup via CWM. That dreaded "something" will go wrong. It happens to most all on here who want to learn. Nothing like a soft bricked tablet to motivate one!
Just a suggestion. Before you get in too deep. Spend a week or so just reading the forum. Learn to use the Search function (It will save your butt many many times). Keep your threads condensed. (Two SetCPU threads can be confusing) and keep reading...
Oh, and relax. Pretty much whatever one does to a tablet can be fixed. I said "pretty much"! lol

So, to check which branch you are on if you are on STOCK: Go to Settings -- About Tablet -- Tapu UI Version.<<< I dont see that Tapu UI anywhere in my About Tablet. Hmmm. But i am running VEGAn TAB. I DO see Build Number: GRI40.
When in read how to check the bootloader thing..he did say something like ' If i have a lock screen..i must be on 1.2. I DO have a lockscreen. So 1.1 doesnt have any lock screen when the Tablet starts up????
But just a weird question...wouldnt i already have CWM if i have VEGAn TAB on here already?? I thought yes. I DO wanna speed this baby up a little bit. Doesnt have to be SUPER fast. Just a little faster startup and faster when i click apps or menu stuff. I want a Motorola Xoom soon. Wanna sell and trade up stuff for it.
I also wouldnt mind VEGA n TAB 7.1...i think they said the Camera works in that version for Skype and other stuff..not sure. Im a paranoid person with certain things in life. I guess this is one of em. Weird...im good with computers. Programs and stuff a little bit.
Guess i should just DL SetCPU and run it..just dont click set on BOOT.
Edit: WOW..those steps in how to install CWM is point on. Thats what i like...the DUMMY style step by step. Every word. You know..until we learn how to do it. Some people would explain..then say a certain word and ill be lost. That one was good. Thanks alot for the kind words and help. I really appreciate it.
Edit 2: I can put the zoip to CWM onto the internal SD of the GTab right? Even if theres alot of stuff already in it???
Edit 3: In the CWM folder i downloaded...i see the update.zip...zipped..and a folder that says Recovery. Strange..in the steps to install CWM...it says everything but it doesnt say what to do with this folder...even tho i think it should be in there no????

No. I used it on a different tab that I wanted to underclock to get battery life. The Galaxy tab is fast enough that I dont desire to overclock, so cpuset is useless to me.

after researching the net for ways to speed up my revo I have came across people talking about "smurf" or "thunderbolt" for the revo and im not sure what they are talking about. im a noob but I am currently brokenout 1.1 with blitz 3.0 do I need to de these things or a supercharger to speed my phone up more, i may be new to this but i can usually figure it out with instructions, thanks for any help
Those are tweaks that do speed up the phone quite a bit. My personal preference is thunderbolt because it comes in a zip file that you just flash through cwm whereas Smurffed out is a physical script you run through a script manager. Some users prefer this because you can truly customize the settings on smurffed out but for some reason I've had keyboard issues every time I install it so I always end up removing it. The t bolt script has worked well though with no problems.
