[Q] 4g outage - LG Revolution

Is verizon having another 4 g outage? Can't seem to pull 4g in a spot I get it all the time. Staying 3g.

Usually 3G goes out with 4G... either they fixed that failure or its maintenance on that tower(?). Last night i had 3G on a 4G area and thought it was kinda weird. Sorry for the lack of help, that's all I have currently.

4G is working here in Charleston, SC
From My Bryce Device

No Problem In Iowa/Nebraska
No problem here on the Iowa/Nebraska border at Omaha, got plenty of 4G to go around...

I'm back up now. Maybe they were just doing some maintenance on the tower.

Actually, it may seem so, but 3g is actually a different system. If you have a 4g phone and the data goes out, most of the time you can get 3g by selecting CDMA only on your phone network settings. 2 out of the past 4 outages, I was successful at maintaining a solid 3g Connection when 4g was out. While in 4g network mode, I would get the revolving data crud (No Data, 1x, 3g, 4g)...
Next time you have a 4g outage, give it a go, you might be surprised to get 3g in CDMA mode. Not saying it will work all the time, but it has 50% of the time for me.
EDIT: I noticed I put "Next time...", not 'IF' LoL. As if for some odd reason I would expect another one....

THAT Didn't take long. Only minutes after I posted that, 4g went down... But, I can say my 3g service percentage went up. I'm 3 for 5 (60/40 now) within a month time.
So, there you have it. 4g is down and 3g is still good to go....

Just noticed this post today. I was arriving home in Hawaii when this post was made and was traveling from Columbus, Ohio. 4G was out when I started my travel in Ohio and was out when I arrived in Honolulu as well. Some time in the evening, 4G was restored and yes I lost 3G as well even though I turned the network to CDMA only.

Interesting.. Hmmm. I actually never changed to CMDA only because by the time I was going to, 4g was back up. Seemed to only be out for around 10 minutes. But, the entire time, I did have 3g service....

LTE RSRP (dBm) signal comparison

I think a lot of us would like to see is the RSRP (dBm) values of the HTC One sitting next to the EVO and possibly another device like the GS3 or Note 2.
Can someone who has the HTC One in a 4G LTE market find another LTE phone and compare them side by side?
Pretty Please!
Thanks in advance!
Tell me where to get the dBm values and I can do it for you.

On HTC phones you can go to "About Phone" and then "Network" or the "Sensorly" app will show you under "Details" if you have that app downloaded
Do you have an EVO or other phone activated that you can show the screens side by side?

i use signalcheck found in the play store.
I use an app called Open Signal for testing signal strength, it's free and I think ad-free... as well as useful.
I would test the LTE, but there is no LTE where I live.
Somewhat related, I started a thread moments ago about signal issue I am having on my ONE unfortunately...

Issues with 3G or voice calls?
Sent from my HTC EVO 4G LTE ....
Here are my stats, though I don't know how relevant they are. No matter what, I cannot get them to connect to the same tower. The comparison is between the One and an S3, The S3 runs CM 10.1. The screenshots were taken in the same place, not side by side, but in the exact same location one after the other.
Check the filenames to compare.

Voice for sure, haven't tested any 3G yet.... on WIFi at the house.
heres in my house where its spotty, my daughters ip5 is anywhere between -112-117 in the house and stays on lte. neither the one, lte or my wifes gs3 can hold the lte connection like the ip5 can in this house.
LTE no connection and this was after a airplane mode shuffle
and the One
Just went into a sprint store yesterday and compared the One with my EVO ....I am VERY VERY Disappointed!
The sprint store is right on the edge of a 4G tower...perfect for testing the RF signal. When I walked in the One was connected to 4G without issue, EVO as well. Tried going to the network screen on the one but for some reason it was greyed out and could not access. So I downloaded sensorly so I could see the RSRP values.
Just holding the 2 phones together for a picture and the HTC one drops LTE.
Sent from my HTC EVO 4G LTE ....
Is this something that can be fixed or do we have to rely on Sprint and HTC to adjust something?.. I'm dropping from 4G to 3G all the time in places my other LTE phones hold.
Is this a software issue or Hardware?

I just drove one way down a road(4 miles) that has 4G with my phone in the dock and sensory and Google music running. Held 4G the whole way..
Just had to drive down the same road back to the house with the phone on my center console and it was holding 4G again until I touched the phone. When I let it go it connects to 4G again after a minute or so.. Then when I touch it it loses 4G again.. WTF is going on here?
When I say "touch" it, I mean just picking it up in hand. Did this 4 times... This does not happen in areas where it's a strong LTE signal. Only in the outer areas of the LTE signal. But like mentioned before, my other devices hold it fine.

I work in a basement office (IT), and i'm close enough to a tower that my GS3 would still be able to hold on to a weak LTE signal at times (mostly 3G, but sitting on my desk, I could usually cycle airplane mode and get it to hold LTE). It pulled about 2 meg down on LTE the couple times I tested it. I've seen my One grab LTE a couple times, but as soon as it tried to move any data, it would drop back to 3G.
Other than that, both seem to perform pretty much the same to me, but haven't had enough time to test them side by side. I always had to cycle airplane mode to get the GS3 to look for LTE again after dropping to 3G (without having to wait 10 minutes), but with the One, it seems like all you have to do is toggle Mobile Data off and back on and it'll grab LTE. Definite plus there.

Yep, same thing here...I pick up the phone, press the power button to wake, and within seconds data either switches to 3G and/or drops altogether, only to come back after short period. When it comes back it sometimes stays good and sometimes continues to give me issues. I'm thinking software too...but I'm definitely not in a fringe area, at least according to Sprint's coverage map. I'm not going to wait this out and be frustrated...tomorrow morning I'm going to an AT&T store and check out their demo. If it holds a data connection I'm returning the Sprint phone and switching to AT&T. Thankfully, I was at the end of my Verizon contract and within the 14 day remorse period with Sprint.
Oh, and I might add, it did this while I was in the Sprint store and I dismissed it as being indoors or something that would settle. I guess I was so smitten with this sexy ass phone that I too quickly dismissed the issue.

LTE Reception?

Anyone else having trouble with their LTE reception? I just came from an iPhone 5 and fortunately around me the area is kind of blanketed in LTE but I have yet to get any solid connection on the One where as with my iPhone 5 it would lock on and get great speeds. I saw the LTE on the one pop in a couple times but just for a couple secs and even once long enough to start a Speed Test but then it "lost connection" in the middle of the test. I assume a PRL update is needed or at least I'm hoping its just a PRL update.
You practically have to be making love to the tower to get 4G to connect. And yes you are not alone.

I was a bit harsh...The phone is quite capable of grabbing an LTE signal..But in fringe areas is will not hold it.It will switch back to 3G..On the sensorly App it seems anything that is 0-2 bars will grab a signal but will drop it eventually..
But man when you are in 3-4 bars in dark purple this phone flys on LTE.
I'm pulling crazy far lte speeds

Yeah I was too on my iPhone 5 - like 30mbps download and 10 upload. I'll update this post when I get another chance to test it again I went ahead and did a profile and prl update.
Sounds like location. I am in Houston and 80% of the time its on 4G, I usually get around 15 to 25 down on 4G. Indoors It stays on 4G but speed drops to around 2

This is a software decision.
For most networks, the decision to switch back to 3g would be wise. For most, LTE is blazing fast and 3g is usable. Switching back to 3g on the fringe of an LTE tower is a fine decision on say, Verizon. It also makes sense from a battery standpoint. There is no sense making the higher power LTE radio strain for a signal when there is a perfectly usable 3g one available to a lower power radio.
The problem is with Sprint, with Sprint, you want to hold onto every last drop of LTE because even the faintest, messiest, LTE signal is going to be faster than the 3g.
There will be a software update, I am fairly confident, that will change the values where the the phone gives up on LTE.

I was going to return the phone today but I'll roll the dice in hopes there is an update for this because in those "fringe" areas my Note II holds 4G and its only 2Mbps down and 1Mbps up but it's better than the 3G 28.8k it switches to..
I just hope when the area is covered by more LTE it'll even out..Happy to hear that about Houston which has more coverage that the One holds it's 4G better..This is what im banking on.

I'm smack in the middle of what is supposed to be a fairly saturated LTE area for Sprint (North Dallas, TX) and mine keeps switching between 3G and 4G with total data drops seemingly random and many times throughout the day. What's weird is often times, I'll go to use the phone and the 4G is there and 3 or more bars, and then as soon as I open an app that uses data the connection will drop. It doesn't happen every time, but way more than I can live with. I'm thinking about returning it to Sprint and going with AT&T instead. I just hate to have to hassle with it and pay more for less.

well, then i guess all I can hope for is some sort of update that helps keep 4G connected
Probably has to do with a minimum signal strength value to keep it connected to LTE and not search for a stronger signal. Hopefully there will be an update or a patch to fix this.

I just feel like not enough people are complaining about this issue and it'll just keep working the way it is now. Which would suck.
Through out my searched for the night I ended up at a tmobile website where they too were having the same 4G issues.. Maybe it is a design problem and not just software.

That's helpful...with issues like this, especially at or near launch of a new device, it's always a question of device vs. network vs. software issues. I'm always skeptical that the device is the issue, especially on flagship models. I posted on a Sprint forum and one user said he took his phone back and Sprint swapped it for another HTC One and he's had no issues. Says he thinks it's some type of provisioning issue, which I am not too sure of. But he said he a similar issue with the Evo LTD (I think) and swapped and no more issues. There also was a Sprint rep that chimed in on the thread and advised me that an Vision upgrade had been made in my area yesterday and to update profile and prl and then power down for 3-5 minutes. I followed that advice but I'm still having issues. For reference, I'm in 75240 zip code.

Yeah, I think most of us that have been around a while realize that. I could care less about the bars. Hell, I hardly even talk on the phone. What I need is Data to work, consistently. I don't even care if it's 4G if a decent 3G is available and would provide a consistent connection. Well, yeah, I would prefer it be 4G. The selling point for Sprint right now is their prices and unlimited Data. When you factor in that they are really trying to upgrade their network to compete with the other big 2, and are oriented towards customer concerns at the moment, it makes them appealing. But they got to get the data consistent, especially in large markets like Dallas, TX, or they are just going to keep on churning customers. I just switched to them from Verizon as I was at the end of my contract and was a bit tired of Big Red's bullying, but I have to hand it to them, their network is fantastic. I might be going right back to them, or take a chance on AT&T, which I switched from to Verizon a couple years ago.

Delay in connecting to data

Is it normal to take a while to connect to data? How does I compare to other sprint LTE phones?
I've noticed that if I disconnect from wifi, it may take a while before I get any data at all. I drove nearly 5 blocks yesterday before it connected to anything at all, searching for signal since walking out the door and turning wifi off completely.
I'm guessing I'm just in spotty area for 4G and it doesn't know whether to connect to 3g or 4G.

I live in Orlando Fl. and it doesn't usually take long to connect to data for me. But we only have 3G here for now. I don't think 4G is releasing until later this year. I do know that Sprints 3G speeds suck big time here. I'm lucky if I can get the Google page to load up in less than 3 minutes. It's pretty pathetic sometimes.

Nope, no issue here. You can set it to "home only" in mobile data> roaming so it doesnt jump back and forth.

But I have to keep roaming on, otherwise I can't send or receive texts and calls, plus they said they won't charge me for roaming

Just watch your mobile data usage while you're on extended coverage! I believe it's 300MB until they call you up.
If it's due to a tower outage, Sprint is generally more generous with the roaming usage limitations. They actually told me they would reimburse me for any minutes I went over due to not having unlimited mobile to mobile while roaming.
The tower by my house was down for over a week, and now it's finally back but with much poorer signal. It went down the same day it was slated for a 4G upgrade, so I guess the contractor bungled something.

That's new info to me; certainly something to keep in mind. Service has generally been pretty good where I live, and the last time we had an outage, there weren't any cell towers functioning on any carrier in the area, so it was pretty moot.

I'm sure you don't mind quite as much now. My first LTE experience was at a corporate picnic near my house, and I have rarely been quite as confused as I was to see that little "4G" icon winking at me from the status bar.
I'm pretty sure it is a Phoenix thing. I have the same problem. My girlfriend has an iPhone, never has the connection problems I have. The research I've done seems to point to the fact that we have LTE phones in a non-LTE market; the phone struggles with this. When I was in Nashville the phone blew my mind. LTE, everything was blazing fast, no problems with call quality/drops.

Sprint Instability

Had an entire section of town go down yesterday. Showed full signal but everytime anyone attempted to make a call it showed "network failure". Even attempting to call sprint's customer service numbers.
Finally got ahold of sprint via a land line and they claimed the towers show no problems and the network wasn't congested...
It is really bad since I rely on my phone for emergency response. Anyone else notice instability like this lately?
Are you in an area where LTE is being deployed? Sometimes that happens. You dont get LTE and the 3G gets worse.

Well we were on the "list" (Tallahassee, FL) but haven't seen much LTE (or any) in Tallahassee... It wasn't just 3g, the entire 1xRTT network dropped (no phone calls, no texts). I am on business so I get to use business tech (instead of consumer tech) and they viewed all the work orders for the towers in teh area. Said there was nothing currently happening that would have caused the entire network to go down and that we aren't even close to 800 SMR deployment (which pisses me off because Sprint coverage inside my office is horrible, while verizon I can get a strong 1x, 3g and LTE (my work phone and air card are all verizon)).
Same thing happened to me a while back, nothing worked, but I was roaming. It lasted for a few days, then when it started working again, I got LTE.
Same thing going on around Philly suburbs. Calls dropping like crazy and horribly slow 3g. When lte is turned on for good, does 3g go back to normal, or stay slower than the 1x speeds I get in some places?

Lolololol
So do we go ask the vendor to fix their towers?
It's Sprint's responsibility to make sure it deals with good vendors and that they maintain the towers well.

How so when Sprint's internal diagnostic tools show the tower is functioning properly (in respect to the Sprint network)?
Its possible that your area is getting 1900 network vision upgrades, which knock you out for about a week.you don't really notice the lte install because you don't have the service, but you are dependent on 1900 for voice so its not pretty. Our area just got the upgrade and we had a lot of unhappy customers, I couldnt call or text for about 6 days. I'm off for a few weeks or I would check it out for you.
No issues

So if I am scheduled to get LTE in my area soon, what kind of behavior would the network show?
I get crappy 3G almost everywhere, where every time I try to do anything, the 3G indicator goes dark and I get a network error. Whenever I get an LTE signal, it's usually a namesake, and I get knocked down to 3G. In select spots at select times, I get super duper slow 3G: around 90kbps. Sometimes 200. VERY few times, I get around 2 megs on LTE. That only lasts a little while.
I'm scheduled to get LTE this month. When should I expect decent coverage? All the threads in the International forum about gigs of data have me PUMPED!

Towers go down. Power goes out, internet goes down.
These things happen. You call Sprint, you let them know. Even if they tell you everything looks good on their end, if they get 5 calls about the same tower, they'll send out an engineer.
Expecting 100% uptime is absurd.

Normally you will just start to see 4g more often. You may some some minor odd behavior because they are up on the tower fooling around but it won't be a big outage. They do one site at a time, and once it's on it has to be tuned for optimal performance which takes a while too.
Sadly your 3g speeds are normal anymore, smart phones now days have completely overwhelmed the marginal capacity that evodo offers. Only thing they can do is to throw more RF carriers up but that can cause interface issues between cell sites and it can actually hinder performance. Areas that have complete lte toll outs do end up with much better 3g since the data hogs are now on lte, I can get about 1.5 down on 3g here where we have both lte and 1900mghz 3g network vision complete.
Same issues in Washington, DC for the Past 3 days. I sure hope its because they are upgrading the towers
Same thing happened in Houston a couple of days ago. One of the three towers in the area I work has been Network Vision upgraded, other two still in the works. Anywho, all of a sudden, no calls/texts for a span of about 20-30 minutes (longer/more in other areas). Sprint: "no issues reported in your area", I was: "yeah, I'm reporting one/some". Everything back to normal, for the time being, super-slow 3G (less than 100kbps). Thank goodness for Xfinity at home/work. I work for a preferred retailer and all we have been advised is that the upgrades are coming and will resolve and greatly improve our (Sprint's) network. Hopefully, the influx of money from the new owners will make it so. Nextel bandwidth/spectrum to be used for LTE, yes you'll need a new phone with correct radio.

I havent read much of what's going on here just skimmed through but I would like to add what I've heard.
Lately we've been having a lot of iPhones come in with data issues. Not just the 5 but 4 and 4s as well. This week alone I've seen 6 myself. Before that... Maybe 1 or 2 everyone 6 months. It's rare. And today these people plus more have come back with a worse issue. They aren't getting reception anywhere. (I'm in Washington btw). So I called my nss support team and they said as of the 17th of July sprint has been getting way more aggressive with the network vision and the iPhone's are more sensitive to this update but other device will start experience these problems and it's going to get worse all over the state till about October. The eta is October.
Sprint wants to have this network vision finished by this year so it just makes sense it would be happening in other states also.

You should have access to glance, it will tell you which sites are being upgraded and ETA's for lte and 3g nv. You have to be a lead or SM to access it.
