It started last night, the phone keeps roaming every minute or so, then goes back to normal. The signal is all over the place too, it goes from full bars to just one. My girlfriend's iPhone 5 is working fine. Is anyone else having the same problem

Nope, no issue here. You can set it to "home only" in mobile data> roaming so it doesnt jump back and forth.

Thanks, I'll try that but I'll go drive around first, to make sure it's not a problem with a tower

I called sprint, the first time they said there were no outages, but a couple hours ago, my gf's iphone started saying extended, so I called back, they said the tower that's near my house is down (hopefully because it's getting LTE!!! :fingers-crossed: )
But I have to keep roaming on, otherwise I can't send or receive texts and calls, plus they said they won't charge me for roaming

Just watch your mobile data usage while you're on extended coverage! I believe it's 300MB until they call you up.
If it's due to a tower outage, Sprint is generally more generous with the roaming usage limitations. They actually told me they would reimburse me for any minutes I went over due to not having unlimited mobile to mobile while roaming.
The tower by my house was down for over a week, and now it's finally back but with much poorer signal. It went down the same day it was slated for a 4G upgrade, so I guess the contractor bungled something.

That's new info to me; certainly something to keep in mind. Service has generally been pretty good where I live, and the last time we had an outage, there weren't any cell towers functioning on any carrier in the area, so it was pretty moot.

Yea they are rolling out Network Vision and 4G here pretty fast so your going to see issues in SD. I am also in SD and have towers on both sides of me getting upgraded and see issues every other week or so.

I'm sure you don't mind quite as much now. My first LTE experience was at a corporate picnic near my house, and I have rarely been quite as confused as I was to see that little "4G" icon winking at me from the status bar.
I'm pretty sure it is a Phoenix thing. I have the same problem. My girlfriend has an iPhone, never has the connection problems I have. The research I've done seems to point to the fact that we have LTE phones in a non-LTE market; the phone struggles with this. When I was in Nashville the phone blew my mind. LTE, everything was blazing fast, no problems with call quality/drops.

Anyone else having trouble with their LTE reception? I just came from an iPhone 5 and fortunately around me the area is kind of blanketed in LTE but I have yet to get any solid connection on the One where as with my iPhone 5 it would lock on and get great speeds. I saw the LTE on the one pop in a couple times but just for a couple secs and even once long enough to start a Speed Test but then it "lost connection" in the middle of the test. I assume a PRL update is needed or at least I'm hoping its just a PRL update.
You practically have to be making love to the tower to get 4G to connect. And yes you are not alone.

I was a bit harsh...The phone is quite capable of grabbing an LTE signal..But in fringe areas is will not hold it.It will switch back to 3G..On the sensorly App it seems anything that is 0-2 bars will grab a signal but will drop it eventually..
But man when you are in 3-4 bars in dark purple this phone flys on LTE.
I'm pulling crazy far lte speeds

Yeah I was too on my iPhone 5 - like 30mbps download and 10 upload. I'll update this post when I get another chance to test it again I went ahead and did a profile and prl update.
Sounds like location. I am in Houston and 80% of the time its on 4G, I usually get around 15 to 25 down on 4G. Indoors It stays on 4G but speed drops to around 2

This is a software decision.
For most networks, the decision to switch back to 3g would be wise. For most, LTE is blazing fast and 3g is usable. Switching back to 3g on the fringe of an LTE tower is a fine decision on say, Verizon. It also makes sense from a battery standpoint. There is no sense making the higher power LTE radio strain for a signal when there is a perfectly usable 3g one available to a lower power radio.
The problem is with Sprint, with Sprint, you want to hold onto every last drop of LTE because even the faintest, messiest, LTE signal is going to be faster than the 3g.
There will be a software update, I am fairly confident, that will change the values where the the phone gives up on LTE.

I was going to return the phone today but I'll roll the dice in hopes there is an update for this because in those "fringe" areas my Note II holds 4G and its only 2Mbps down and 1Mbps up but it's better than the 3G 28.8k it switches to..
I just hope when the area is covered by more LTE it'll even out..Happy to hear that about Houston which has more coverage that the One holds it's 4G better..This is what im banking on.

I'm smack in the middle of what is supposed to be a fairly saturated LTE area for Sprint (North Dallas, TX) and mine keeps switching between 3G and 4G with total data drops seemingly random and many times throughout the day. What's weird is often times, I'll go to use the phone and the 4G is there and 3 or more bars, and then as soon as I open an app that uses data the connection will drop. It doesn't happen every time, but way more than I can live with. I'm thinking about returning it to Sprint and going with AT&T instead. I just hate to have to hassle with it and pay more for less.

Probably has to do with a minimum signal strength value to keep it connected to LTE and not search for a stronger signal. Hopefully there will be an update or a patch to fix this.

I just feel like not enough people are complaining about this issue and it'll just keep working the way it is now. Which would suck.
Through out my searched for the night I ended up at a tmobile website where they too were having the same 4G issues.. Maybe it is a design problem and not just software.

That's helpful...with issues like this, especially at or near launch of a new device, it's always a question of device vs. network vs. software issues. I'm always skeptical that the device is the issue, especially on flagship models. I posted on a Sprint forum and one user said he took his phone back and Sprint swapped it for another HTC One and he's had no issues. Says he thinks it's some type of provisioning issue, which I am not too sure of. But he said he a similar issue with the Evo LTD (I think) and swapped and no more issues. There also was a Sprint rep that chimed in on the thread and advised me that an Vision upgrade had been made in my area yesterday and to update profile and prl and then power down for 3-5 minutes. I followed that advice but I'm still having issues. For reference, I'm in 75240 zip code.

Yeah, I think most of us that have been around a while realize that. I could care less about the bars. Hell, I hardly even talk on the phone. What I need is Data to work, consistently. I don't even care if it's 4G if a decent 3G is available and would provide a consistent connection. Well, yeah, I would prefer it be 4G. The selling point for Sprint right now is their prices and unlimited Data. When you factor in that they are really trying to upgrade their network to compete with the other big 2, and are oriented towards customer concerns at the moment, it makes them appealing. But they got to get the data consistent, especially in large markets like Dallas, TX, or they are just going to keep on churning customers. I just switched to them from Verizon as I was at the end of my contract and was a bit tired of Big Red's bullying, but I have to hand it to them, their network is fantastic. I might be going right back to them, or take a chance on AT&T, which I switched from to Verizon a couple years ago.
I switched back to this phone after having the galaxy 4 because this is a better phone for the most part.
That being said..this phone does poorly hanging on to LTE with Sprint. In areas that have steady 4g coverage that my iPhone 5 and s4 would display 4g, the One often inexplicably drops to 3g, requiring a switch to airplane mode and back again.
I actually used the airplane mode to force 4g like 5 times today.
I know somebody else has to see this issue

I have a thread where I'm working on trying to tweak some epst settings to fix some of these issues. Haven't gotten to the LTE stuff really yet.
D3rped out Beastmode! HTC ONE!
Funny thing is I was thinking of posting this in your thread, but I didnt want to derail it.
I think part of the problem stems from the One not scanning for lte as often as the other phones. I drop data completely quite often and it takes a while to pop back up. And when it does, it's 3g, not 4

It wouldn't fix it but if it's just a configuration issue. Example if it's designed to drop a signal sooner than say the S4 then tweaking some settings COULD fix it. That's all I'm looking to do. Try to fine tune some settings specifically for sprint and this phone.
Edit: I also know that sometimes that can do more harm than good (like maintaining too weak of a signal and have no data connection to speak of) but. Doesn't hurt to try!

Thought I was done with the airplane mode dance as well, coming from the EVO LTE. Ah well.
Oddly, I've had the phone stay on LTE far more often using AOSP, same for my old EVO LTE, which it's usually the opposite no?

Airplane toggle is kind of pointless. The phone grabs LTE Just fine.. It just won't hold it. Especially when you start something that uses data. I've been in areas where I know the signal drops with this phone with it sitting in the dock. But as soon as you run a speed test or download an app it drops to 3G..In all honesty the only way to keep this stupid thing stable is to disable LTE completely and run with crap 3G until your area is heavily saturated with LTE because when your in the middle of doing something data centric and it switched to 3G you have to pretty much start all over or re open the app. Never had to do this on my Note 2.

On the way home I will lose data in certain locations every day the exact same ones cause obviously sprints lte is still being worked on but I think it maybe be because they are upgrading towers cause in the past month I get lte in more and more places driving on I94 from Detroit to Kalamazoo and also the job site has lte everywhere and before it was spotty

This happens to me and my 1st HTC One and my current HTC One and my co workers HTC One no matter if we're standing still or driving..In areas I know for a fact are not being currently worked on..It only happens on the outskirts of an LTE Signal. But like i said earlier, these are places my Note 2 has never ever dropped a signal..I've debated so many times going back to my Note 2 but I just can't do it.469 DPI and a screen I can see in daylight has spoiled me rotten...Only logical thing to do is go to AT&T and buy the HTC One there but that would do a number on my wallet so i'll stick around with Sprint until winter and see what they can do.

Keep in mind the signal strength you see is NOT 4G even if you're getting 4G.
There are tools to monitor 4G Strength (search google play).
This phone is horrible with weak 4G around. Bounces in and out and it's very slow at doing that.
As I drive through known 4g coverage areas my note 2 grabs 4g with no issue. My HTC one woould stay in 3g. Frustrating knowing I'm giving my Note 2 to my nephew. Good thing 4g is only in small spots around Southern CT.

I cannot imagine how awesome this phone would be with strong 4g. I use verizon razr hd for my work line and 95% of the time it has a 4g signal, and thats the phone i always reach for when on the road although i love my one so much more...seems sprints roll out is not as fast as I anticipated
I live on the border of an official 4g area (Los Angeles) and I seem to go back and forth from LTE and 3g at home all day long. But, when you do get LTE, it is amazing. Fastest LTE speeds I've ever seen on any carrier. I easily get 25/10 and a great signal in LTE zones.
I have often wondered how my phone could bounce around from 4g to 3g then sometimes to no.data connection all while sitting in the same spot. Is that a network or a device issue? If it's a phone issue do I have a right to get a different one, even though I have had this for over a month

Definitely a network issue..Don't waste your time getting a replacement because it will be the same...Weather and humidity come in to play here as well
This is the story of my life since I got the One. People keep telling me that the S4 has the same issues and the problem is Sprint, but of the 3 people I know with an S4 none of them have this problem where I live. Once they are in an area with 4G, their phone stays on 4G. With the HTC One it takes forever to pick up 4G and once it decides to drop 4G it will take forever to pick it back up unless you toggle airplane mode.
The phone is damn near unusable in Johnson City TN because the 3G is way over capacity on at least half the towers in the area, and if the phone can't hold on to the 4G signals that I know are there then it's basically a paperweight. I really hope there is an update soon.
Had an entire section of town go down yesterday. Showed full signal but everytime anyone attempted to make a call it showed "network failure". Even attempting to call sprint's customer service numbers.
Finally got ahold of sprint via a land line and they claimed the towers show no problems and the network wasn't congested...
It is really bad since I rely on my phone for emergency response. Anyone else notice instability like this lately?

Well we were on the "list" (Tallahassee, FL) but haven't seen much LTE (or any) in Tallahassee... It wasn't just 3g, the entire 1xRTT network dropped (no phone calls, no texts). I am on business so I get to use business tech (instead of consumer tech) and they viewed all the work orders for the towers in teh area. Said there was nothing currently happening that would have caused the entire network to go down and that we aren't even close to 800 SMR deployment (which pisses me off because Sprint coverage inside my office is horrible, while verizon I can get a strong 1x, 3g and LTE (my work phone and air card are all verizon)).
Same thing happened to me a while back, nothing worked, but I was roaming. It lasted for a few days, then when it started working again, I got LTE.
Same thing going on around Philly suburbs. Calls dropping like crazy and horribly slow 3g. When lte is turned on for good, does 3g go back to normal, or stay slower than the 1x speeds I get in some places?

How so when Sprint's internal diagnostic tools show the tower is functioning properly (in respect to the Sprint network)?
Its possible that your area is getting 1900 network vision upgrades, which knock you out for about a week.you don't really notice the lte install because you don't have the service, but you are dependent on 1900 for voice so its not pretty. Our area just got the upgrade and we had a lot of unhappy customers, I couldnt call or text for about 6 days. I'm off for a few weeks or I would check it out for you.

So if I am scheduled to get LTE in my area soon, what kind of behavior would the network show?
I get crappy 3G almost everywhere, where every time I try to do anything, the 3G indicator goes dark and I get a network error. Whenever I get an LTE signal, it's usually a namesake, and I get knocked down to 3G. In select spots at select times, I get super duper slow 3G: around 90kbps. Sometimes 200. VERY few times, I get around 2 megs on LTE. That only lasts a little while.
I'm scheduled to get LTE this month. When should I expect decent coverage? All the threads in the International forum about gigs of data have me PUMPED!

Towers go down. Power goes out, internet goes down.
These things happen. You call Sprint, you let them know. Even if they tell you everything looks good on their end, if they get 5 calls about the same tower, they'll send out an engineer.
Expecting 100% uptime is absurd.

Normally you will just start to see 4g more often. You may some some minor odd behavior because they are up on the tower fooling around but it won't be a big outage. They do one site at a time, and once it's on it has to be tuned for optimal performance which takes a while too.
Sadly your 3g speeds are normal anymore, smart phones now days have completely overwhelmed the marginal capacity that evodo offers. Only thing they can do is to throw more RF carriers up but that can cause interface issues between cell sites and it can actually hinder performance. Areas that have complete lte toll outs do end up with much better 3g since the data hogs are now on lte, I can get about 1.5 down on 3g here where we have both lte and 1900mghz 3g network vision complete.
Same issues in Washington, DC for the Past 3 days. I sure hope its because they are upgrading the towers
Same thing happened in Houston a couple of days ago. One of the three towers in the area I work has been Network Vision upgraded, other two still in the works. Anywho, all of a sudden, no calls/texts for a span of about 20-30 minutes (longer/more in other areas). Sprint: "no issues reported in your area", I was: "yeah, I'm reporting one/some". Everything back to normal, for the time being, super-slow 3G (less than 100kbps). Thank goodness for Xfinity at home/work. I work for a preferred retailer and all we have been advised is that the upgrades are coming and will resolve and greatly improve our (Sprint's) network. Hopefully, the influx of money from the new owners will make it so. Nextel bandwidth/spectrum to be used for LTE, yes you'll need a new phone with correct radio.

I havent read much of what's going on here just skimmed through but I would like to add what I've heard.
Lately we've been having a lot of iPhones come in with data issues. Not just the 5 but 4 and 4s as well. This week alone I've seen 6 myself. Before that... Maybe 1 or 2 everyone 6 months. It's rare. And today these people plus more have come back with a worse issue. They aren't getting reception anywhere. (I'm in Washington btw). So I called my nss support team and they said as of the 17th of July sprint has been getting way more aggressive with the network vision and the iPhone's are more sensitive to this update but other device will start experience these problems and it's going to get worse all over the state till about October. The eta is October.
Sprint wants to have this network vision finished by this year so it just makes sense it would be happening in other states also.

You should have access to glance, it will tell you which sites are being upgraded and ETA's for lte and 3g nv. You have to be a lead or SM to access it.

I have been with sprint for 8 years now. Just got the M8 for the new spark network that according to sprints coverage map, I was fully covered in. We'll, that's not the case. Been having a lot of problems, mainly if I drop to 3g, I actually have no data and no phone calls and can't send texts . I have to wait until I'm in an area that I think may have spark, and reboot my phone. Then I get a flood of text messages and voice mails. This has been going on 3 days now. Apparently this is a mass problem that could be a while to fix. I still have ten days to return it and reverse my contract. Sprint is so bad that if I'm somewhere I don't know where I'm at and try to pull up a route on maps, it will fail to pull anything up, or search for a route until it says no connection, even with 4 bars. It's hard for me to leave since I've been with them for 8 years, but I'm really getting tired of it. Would like to know of anyone else is considering this, or may have left Verizon for sprint and why.

I've been with Sprint a while too. Just LTE in my area, works great though. I'll see whenever spark comes to my area. Have you talked to sprint about this problem? Possibly a defective phone or your tower's messed up. Do you have the same issues on CDMA only mode?
Not sure it's possible but I wonder if loading the right PRL might disable Spark. Or there is a way to shut it off in the phone settings.
LTE is still up and down for me so I leave my phone on CDMA 99% of the tie for stability.
Most places that I need speed I have WIFI.
LTE just isn't there yet.
I'm on hairy edge at home and hairy edge at work (both places I don't need it).
Even when I'm in strong LTE areas if you hit a 3G pocket the phone behaves badly.
Have not had it long enough to know if it's better or worse than HTC One M7.
But I switched it to CDMA.
I just loaded PRL 56018. So it roams on VWZ (3G only).

I had to switch my phone for the same reason you just stated. I don't have these issues anymore.

I have had sprint over 10 years now. Only reason I stay is I'm on Sero Premium. The network is absolutely horrible in my area. Dropped calls, week signal, 1X/3G/4G no data. I'm sticking it out for Spark & hoping 800 LTE will fix the coverage issues. The m8 has had better signal and seems to lock on a lot quicker. So far haven't had that many issues with it besides the network still sucking of course. If you don't have a good plan on Sprint I would leave. I think it will get better over time but it's still going to be a while yet. I have had problems since last July.
I left Verizon because of the ridiculous bills I kept getting. Boy is their network amazing. Signal and LTE everywhere.
Got the Sprint HTC one m8. I mean Sprint is just terrible. LTE barely works barely have a signal anywhere. Love the phone but only on WiFi around the City

Same here. I got I think 9 people on my Sprint family plan, we've had Sprint for over 10 years now. I left for Verizon when the galaxy Nexus was relleased. Man, I loved Verizon, but my bill was upwards of $120 per month. Luckily I got to deal where if yo bought 2 or 5 GB plan, they would double it. So i had 10 GB of data at that time. The service was unbelievable, but I hated the price. So after 9 months, I came back to Sprint. Here in Boston, the service is great, but I've also seen a sporadic in and out connectivity.

Well I made the leap. Went from 03mb to 21mb at work.
Anyone else experiencing this?
You could be getting throttled from the Mothership.

This is only at night? Every night then in the day your ok.
I noticed that in my area before. I think they are working on upgrades during night when network traffic is low.

Yes , on peak lte speeds really suck in my area also, my fix is to go to mobile connections and choose wcdma, gsm (4g). It usually gives me 1.8 MBS . Too bad device/network can't determine fastest speeds vs strongest signal. You will be pleasantly surprised by switching to 4G
You right. For the first few months after lte was introduced in my area I was using 4g only. I had faster and steady downloads with up to 2mbit uploads while lte was randomly dropping connection, swithing to 4 or 3g. For 4g I was using 4g apn settings what originally came with my note 2 not latest lte apn setting.

I have unlimited data so it shouldn't be throttled. I talked to T-mobile yesterday and they don't even know what could be causing it. This just started 2 weeks ago. I did get a free sim card and $30 off my bill so can't complain too much.

Downloading torrents? I heard that T-Mobile will throttle you if they notice.
same thing happens to me at night, i've checked it consistently around midnight and it's always under a meg
Nope. Between my girlfriend and I we have only used 70 gigs.

That was the first of 3 back to back tests. These were the other 2. Higher overall reading but really inconsistent while testing. Even then, usually when T-mobile hits the throttle switch, a speed test will show normal data speeds.

Probably working on towers in your area at night...
Just talked to T-mobile again yesterday. Still No Update from the engineers. They haven't been doing any maintenance on the towers. Maybe I just got a bad Note 4. I Got On the 2nd Shipment when it released. My Gf got her Note 4 about a month ago and she isn't having any of these issues.

15-20 down 5-8 up. Here's the part I can't figure out. I was randomly doing iplookups yesterday and my ip location jumped from Texas to Alabama to Washington then back to Texas towards the end of the night. And I live in Louisiana.

T-Mobile right now is in a huge state of expansion, whilst trying to maintain reliability during peak hours in your area, they will be maintaining the strength of the network during late hours

That's perfect fine and what I assumed, but why wouldn't they just say that when I called them? I've talked to their top level of engineering and he didn't say a word about maintenance.

My recent speed test on T-Mobile 4g with new note 4. Don't know if it's the phone or the network.

Reboot phone, turn off all messengers. In settings in speed test app choose server hosted by Tmobile, run the test. If still very slow try in another location where you are connected to different Tmobile tower. If still slow you are either being throttled by Tmobile or you have defective phone. Put your sim card to friend's phone and run test again. If very slow then throttling, if normal then phone is damaged. Another issue could be network itself. To check this you would need someone with Tmobile smartphone to perform test at your location using their device and sim card.
