Corvette VS 911 - Off-topic

I am thinking about geting a vette or 911 soon. what would you pick?
I am in the sub 25K range so it would have to be used, but one day I will shoot for new if only one time.
I can get 06 vette 40k miles or a 2000 911 60k miles both in like new shape so those are my picks. Time frame 1/2-1 year so listing the cars would do no good.
Update:
911: 11 votes, A guy I know and XDA
Corvette: 12 votes XDA
Update 2: It's 50/50 now( Edit: well it's 10 to 8 with the Vette winning)
the top 5 things I want out of the car first to last:
1) Ride better than kia
2) best 0-60 for the I-roads and more
3) Nice looking car/Coolest car. ( The vette looks better to me, but thats just me.)
4) Handing
5) Top speed
The ORB says 911, but it's still one vote.

If your buying used and live in the States , I'd but the vette for parts availability and less expensive repairs.

definitely the vette

I'd say the 911 but go for the vette for parts and maintenance which are both cheaper for the Chevy than Porsche

The guy I know said they both cost the same to fix and maintenance. why would you go for a 911 and do you have one?

911.
Why? Yhe 911 handles like a boss. The Corvette is known for the lack of handling, but if you like to drag race, then the Corvette will do a better job, but if you want a car that can handle corners, then you won't find anything better than the 911 (in this class).

I just want a car that rides better than a kia and can do 0-60 in under 5 sec. top speed and better handing are nice too. I know the 911 is cornering king, but thats not all I want and is not #1 on my list.
I may track this car some times, but it will be my only car so I will not be dragging this car.

Hey, get a Crown Vic. Built like a tank, and if you take care of it, you can pass it down to your children's children.

Corvette! Love em.
-We do what we must because we can; for the good of all of us, except the ones who are dead-

For handling, I am almost certain the 911 is better. Plus, it's a Porsche.
Proof of rich spoiled children having everything.
Sorry I can't give any more details, I don't have the coin to drive any of the two, but if you were to buy them for me I would gladly provide a detailed review .
Buuut, if you really want speed and acceleration, try a motorcycle. On that I can give a detailed review as I've eaten up a lot of R8's and S8's.
ps: If you say you won't drag this car, why do you want it to do 0-60 under 5 secs?

Both would be nice to have, but it would be better for maintenance to go with the vette. And besides the vette sounds more sinister with a really nice exhaust.
Sent from my R800at using XDA App

Why do all of you say the vette would be cheaper to fix?
The guy I know says they cost about the same to fix and that the vette rides like crap, but I don't thinkthats true for the c6 vettes.
I think I will go for the vette, but test drive before I buy.

That's a given. You'd have to be nuts to buy any car, especially a used car, without going for a test drive first. I can tell you, from having already taken approximately 100 test drives before making a purchase, the vast majority of used vehicles sitting on car lots are there for a reason. And that reason certainly is not to see you get a fair deal. And the ones that have nothing wrong with them, and don't smell like cleaning fluid are so overpriced........
I got so disgusted that I ended up buying new. Buyer Beware.

Wal mart or radio shack

So I have two job offers I'm debating on and would like some of our expert knowledge here on them.
First is the wal mart job as the meat department manager, and second is assistant store manager at a radio shack.
Both are hourly positions and pay roughly the same across the board.
I've worked for wal mart before and recently left back in June of this year, and loved it. Radio shack is a new opening for me and my love of technology and the ability to play with phones all day but I'm stuck between the two.
Wal mart has some decent employee discounts on cell phone contracts, and airfare etc. I don't know what radio shack has to offer tho.
So if it was up to you guys who would you rather work for? Give me some facts and opinions on the two companies.
Thanks!!!

Maybe look at it from a potential customers you'd have to deal with standpoint?
Radioshack: Not particularly tech-savvy (since they didn't order online instead) and stuck in the 90's or tech savvy people looking for one particular obscure component that they couldn't wait to have shipped from an online order.
Walmart:Since you're in the meat department you wouldn't have to deal with as many customers.
At least that's how I'd see it.
I've worked meat department in a store before and hated the way I smelled after work. It cuts social life after work completely unless of course you go home and shower. I've also worked as Sprint lead tech and loved that position way more since I could still go out after work. In fact I proposed to my fiancee after a 10 hour shift at Sprint; there's no way that would've happened after a 10 hour shift at a meat market lol

The nexus 4 turned me into a renegade [email protected]$$

First i got the nexus 4 so i could leave the over priced contracts of ATT and Verizon. I did that and I'll be saving $1000 a year.
It worked so well, i became a cable cutter and ditched Comcast for a savings of $1800 a year.
Then i was looking at myself shaving in the mirror one morning with one of those Gillette mach whatever fusion razors for 20 bucks for 4 of them, and thought, hey this is dumb. So i pulled out my grandfather's old straight razor and lovingly spent an hour honing and stropping it just right and said goodbye to buying another razor for the rest of my life.
It felt so exhilarating holding a lethal weapon against my own throat every morning that i began to look for other ways to find the same feeling.
I found it at the gas station while filling my car. I thought, why am i spending so much on gas for something that's no fun to drive? So i sold it and bought a motorcycle that does 0 to 60 in a little less than 3 seconds but gets 55 miles to the gallon.
Throwing your body down the road at 70 miles an hour gives you a different perspective on things. At least, if you're doing it right. I started living in the moment. I questioned the natural order of things.
So at this point i roam from town to town helping those who can't help themselves.
That's my resolution for the new year... What's yours?

I'd just like to point out that while the Nexus 4 has turned Pedxing into a renegade [email protected]$$, not all stories involving the Nexus 4 turn out good. In fact, any Nexus device can ruin lives and should only be handled trained professionals. Here's why:
When the Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 were released, there was a huge rush to get them. Anybody who was remotely interested in phones and tablets knew these devices would be a huge success. However, nobody remembered to tell this to Google, who only manufactured enough devices so that their employees (and families) could get them and keep their workplace Apple-free. Once this production run was complete, the production line was terminated. However, due to the complexities of language translation and foreign business practices, the word "terminate" was taken literally and the workers were executed and the factories set on fire, and the land was salted so that nothing would ever grow there again.
Now, picture this: Here I am, a humble science student, currently working on my doctorate so I can help bring positive change to this world. However, even though I am a technophile, I'm in a cruel relationship where my partner does not want me "wasting money" buying the "latest fad". Instead, she tortures me by talking about wanting babies and buying another kitten. All this does is drive me deeper into my research in order to escape. Somehow, possibly due to sun spots or an alignment of planets, or because she suspected the Mayans may well have been right, she suddenly grants me permission to purchase the new Nexus devices. I cannot believe this! What an incredible change of events! Ecstasy!
So, like millions of other people, I am furiously bashing the F5 key on my computer during the Nexus product launch in a desperate bid to see an "Add to cart" button appear, overloading Google's sales system (running on a Sinclair ZX81, because "hey it'd be cool man"). Nobody was able to purchase a new Nexus device, yet somehow all the stock disappeared (Google's employees and their families got access to the sales server running on the Commodore 64. 6510 > Z80, suckers!). In desperation, I'd been hitting the F5 key for two months, hoping some new stock would become available. Of course, this did not happened (nor ever will), but the carrot remained dangling on Google's website and I was still enticed to refresh the website.
I'd been living the life of a recluse, sitting in my lab repeatedly smashing the F5 key on my keyboard. I am afraid to leave, knowing that I will probably miss the 20 minute window of opportunity to buy a new device when I step away. So, I manufactured my own food in my lab, but I don't really know how to cook and the results were interesting. Some of my food staged a rebellion and escaped, destroying my air conditioning system in the process. The arm I use to click the F5 key (amongst other things) had grown large and muscular, and I think my testosterone levels had increased incredibly, as I had become more hairy and aggressive towards other people. In fact, my dominant arm had dwarfed my other limbs and consumed much of my blood flow, depriving my brain of sufficient blood to enable higher thought processes, so I had become a savage, unruly creature, driven by impulse and prone to whims of fancy.
Such was the case when I decided that it may be easier to find a Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 device already in circulation and liberate the devices from their physically weak possessors. Such slender, symmetrical fools! How dare they possess items of beauty and function! How can I, an educated person with chemically enhanced genetics and a superior physique, be deprived of such pleasures? So I positioned myself near where humans gather, in a place known as a "train station", and hid myself in a tunnel near a point of pedestrian access. I waited, while obtaining nutrients from the assorted vermin found within my damp, dank dwelling. I honed the power in my arm, my magnificent arm of destruction, a red fleshy monstrosity bulging with potent sweet love and misery, a piston of massacre and serenity, a complex dance of sinew twirling merrily amongst the chords of oblivion. Yes, I shall feast! I WILL NOT BE DEPRIVED! Don't look at me. DON'T LOOK INTO MY EYES!
One day, I heard the footsteps of the carriers of the Nexus outside of my realm, and I knew now was the time to take what was rightfully mine! Yes, victory! Sweet, blessed victory! I sprang from my lair of comfort and succor, shielding my eyes from the blinding light with the inferior, weak arm while thrashing away with the harbinger of death, showing my unbridled power in a threatening display and screaming as best my lungs could enable that the offerings of the Nexus should be placed at my feet. Yes, puny weak creatures, give me my bounty!
Then my eyes burnt, I gasped for air, and after some more flailing in rage, I fell to the ground and my body twitched from the electrical currents passing through me. Such is the uncaring way of the Nexus. It chose not to love me. I was unworthy. I was weak. I was trampled. I whimpered.
Modern medicine is a wonderful thing. Now I see with clarity. Yes, I was a fool to love the Nexus. (sweet, sweet, Nexus, you fooled us). I am held in binds, for my arm, my lovely arm, my arm that dispenses love, is a menace to society. Yes, I see this. (yes, we do see this, we see everything). People come to see me, to nod sagely, to make clucking noises at how far I fell. (the clucks! the clicks! they mock us!). The walls may be soft, but my resolution is strong. I was wrong to crave the Nexus. I became broken, but I can be fixed. Yes, fixed. All will be well.
(We shall fix everything. Everyone is broken, only we can fix them. You will see. We see everything.)

What to do with $300? Non-Phones :(

I recently got $300 for designing 2 websites, and as the title states, what should I buy with it? Obviously it's what I want(hehe I knew someone was going to say that) but I would love to hear you guys' opinions. It has to be something non-phone related as I am in my crucial years of high school plus if I get a phone I will become addicted to it. Oh and I have a flip phone:laugh:

If you don't really need anything right now just save it until you have an idea. I don't know about your situation and if you're going to college and if financial aid/parents/etc will cover your costs - but that $300 will be eaten up very quickly and it's fantastic to be able to start saving before you get there if you're not getting "all expenses paid and more".
Of course, it's always nice to treat yourself! You said no phones, but what about something cheap like a Nexus One ? Buy that, save the rest. You will find a smartphone VERY useful for college, especially if you will be moving out and doubly so if you're going to be in a new area. Learn to use it now and be ready!

3d printable model of case for N4.

Some of you may have seen the post about wiring a second battery to your N4, and getting fantastic battery life. For those who may have missed it, you can find it here
4200mAh Nexus 4 - second internal battery!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41203417#post41203417
The problem is that you have to destroy your back cover.
The average person reading this post seems oblivious the the wonders of 3d printing. I've posted a few times and it seems to go right over everyone's head. So I'm posting in the main forum.
I am willing to pay $10.00 to the person who creates a 3d model of a case for the N4, with room for the extra battery, that holds everything in place. I know I'm not the only one willing to do this. If we get enough people interested in chipping in, a 3d modeler could make a nice chunk of change.
I did a google search for "have something 3d printed" and I get a bunch of companies, all I need is someone to make the model.
Anyone interested?
$10 would not even be worth the material to print out a "custom" case you want let alone the time and resources involved.
I don't want or need someone to print it out. I am going to submit the file to the printing service and pay for that all on my own. As would anyone else who wants the case.
I am paying 10.00 for someone to create the model in autocad for example. Provide that file for download. So anyone can submit this file to the printing service, pay the printing service fee, and have the printed case mailed to them.
Ten dollars? To develop a product that might eventually change the future of this phone, I don't think so

Does ANYBODY understand crowd sourcing?
I'm not saying to pay this person 10 dollars. I'm saying WE ALL PAY 10.00.
you know...that whole bit where I said if 25 people want to submit 10.00...this person gets 250.00...
And your right, something that WILL CHANGE THE FUTURE OF THIS PHONE...so I think that passing 25 people would be easy,
Hell, there might be 100's. Thus making this person $1000.00.
I'm getting rrreeaalllly close to hiring this person and flat out paying him/her myself. Then charging for the file and putting the money into my bank account.
Forget it. I am going to have it designed myself.

I'm not planning on paying 10.00 to have it printed. I'm chipping in 10.00 to have the document that is sent to the printer created. And paying to have it printed on my own. He w ever that much would be.
Regardless. The battery will be here after the 13th. I'm going to confirm the op. Between my roommate and I, we are going to *try* to develop an easy way to do the hardware mods to the device so almost anyone can do it. I'm going to hire the 3d modeler, have a few cases printed up and sell um on eBay.
Or... At least have great battery life and a nice case, depending on the cost I may just have one printed.
One way or another, I'm going to take full advantage of technology available to me.

IMO that project is much better suited for phones with removable covers, as you have a preexisting mounting mechanism and there's no need to modify the actual phone. I can say however that a printable case fit the N4 woukd be pretty sweet.

I say throw this up on kickstarter, while I don't want this I'd chip in $5.
Sooo I came across this thread, and I'm an engineer, with access to a 3d printer and CAD software.
If a two piece hard case exists, I could base it on that, the 3d material isn't that strong when thin so it would have to be a two piece design.
This is certainly intriguing, though I must warn you, the "ink" our printer uses feels fairly cheap. I'm not sure what texture you're looking for, but I know other options exist, it would just be a matter of getting options from the shop who is actually printing.
Just want to note too, the ink is fairly expensive, plus there is hand cleaning necessary after the object is printed (driving up the cost).
I have a model N4 that I used to make a basic desk holder, I can send that to you to get a quote.
Let me know
EDIT: also, a case with a battery would need to be wired into the original, thus destroying your current back...unless a battery with qi like capacity could be placed next to the untouched back.

Agree with what you are saying about the two piece case, I am studying my senior year to become an engineer, I don't have a 3d printer but have Cad and will try to design something today, do you mind looking at it and giving your thought on it?

If it were me, I would copy the dimensions of the OEM bumper, use AutoCAD or Pro-E to make the 3D model, print and shove the rubber part from the bumper into the case. I'll take a look at my bumper when I get home and do a mock up. $10 for 10 minutes of work is worth it lol. The most time consuming parts would be getting exact measurements. I'll have my trusty caliper for that. The rounds would be a bit tricky though. Plus including some sort of tolerance for the mass produced 4's, though I suspect it should be fine if I stick with the same dimensions of the bumper.
Instead buy a travel charger !! Its too beautiful to be fk'd up

Guys, this is a $350 phone. UNLOCKED!

I don't start many opinion threads and I've been on this site a very long time.
However, I've been seeing lot of threads come up for the NEXUS 5, regarding it's QC, and maybe questionable components. So I'll chime in and offer some of my views, for what they're worth and you can go ahead do the same.
In this day and age, a $350 smartphone (Unlocked and with no contract) is a bargain, ESPECIALLY one as capable of the Nexus 5. You guys CANNOT forget that.
This is a device that can easily handle some of the devices costing twice as much. it's a powerhouse with very up to date specs for a price that is very low.
You're getting the latest in processing power as well as graphics. You're getting an excellent screen that's large, VERY bright, very sharp with accurate color reproduction. Yes your contrast might not be as ridiculous as the OLED screens but they both have ups and downs. but come on, you forget all the negatives when you think it's a $350 device. I do atleast.
Me personally, battery life is good for me, but if it's not for you, well again, it's good, not excellent. But if you got this battery life with a $700 device, you'd be upset but at $350...........how upsent can you possible be? not to mention it's one of the very few wireless charging devices with VERY fast charge times.
Camera is Good, not a ground breaker but trust me....it's much better than other sub $350 retail phones. Compared to them, it's a gold mine of a camera.
Not to mention the software...it has the latest and during it's cycle will always be the first to have the latest.
wait....did I mention it's a $350 phone? Think about alll the feature it has at $350....... then see if you complain about the little "button rattle" you have.... which you only discovered because someone else did...... come on now..
It's one helluva a device, and if you take price into account....GOD DAMN, It's a bargain of the decade (Till the next nexus ).
your thoughts?
It's a bargain no doubt. If you don't mind the cut corners in battery, speakers and camera and value latest software very highly then it's the right device for you.

Of course, that's why it's a $350 phone, not a $650 phone
But given the choice of nexus 5 at $350 and a Galaxy s4 at $600.................I just couldn't justify the extra $250 for the GS4...that's me. ..... and I own both lol.
I still think it is pretty crazy what they managed to pack into a $350 phone.
I just think these people are whingers. If they weren't whinging about this, they would have something else to whinge about.
I'm not one to complain. I've just sold my HTC One and bought this. But in the UK and a lot of other countries we are paying $560 for this phone.

It's a great bargain no doubt, it's just that discovering hidden flaws in a product is never pleasant, regardless of the price.
Also they try to make it pass for a no-compromise product, which inevitably sets people up for disappointment. If they just came out and said "hey, this is just a decent phone, not perfect, but the price is amazing guys" then it would be different, expectations would be different I think.
They're the one inviting comparison with $700 devices by marketing it as they do.

Posts like this is what causes contention among people. I think most people understand it's basically a steal for what you get at this price, but when you have people who act like the phone is flawless it's highly annoying. The nexus 5 is a great phone but the battery life definitely isn't one of it's strengths. Battery life is average on this phone, if you think it's great(or great with tweaks) try out other phones and you'd reconsider your definition of great.
I'm assuming the Nexus program was an intention of to show what Google can bring to the platform through software and not hardware.. Well then.. can Google make another program where hardware matters and listen to the community of what they want without cutting corners? I'll pay for that.
I have yet to see anyone acknowledge the feet accomplished by Google. Let's look at the problem space here. We need to build a phone with a good camera. Has latest hardware specs. Performs well with new operating system as it will be a hallmark device for it. Works on major carriers. Has LTE support. Work internationally. Has international LTE support. Supports both gsm and cdma. Oh and let's not forget it needs to be half the cost of all other flagship phones! Come on people there is only one other company that is even comings close to accomplishing such feet's and that xoimi. And for now they are only China based handsets. So let's give some props where props are due. I just got my bad boy today and I am in love with it!

Many of you talk like Google Play supported countries are the only countries in the world. In many countries in Asia the Nexus 5 will cost just as much as the S4 and Htc One. In that case, it is unreasonable to see these issues in such an expensive phone. I may still buy it because of the development but please don't say that there had to be corners cut for the cheap price when in the majority of the world the phone is being sold for the equivalent of other high end phones.

I'm sorry but what do you mean by "they try to make it pass for a no-compromise product"? Who exactly are "they"?
From my understanding, the product was launched WITHOUT any fanfare. It just mysteriously one day popped up on Google Play store.
If by "they", you mean the Tech Media and their "rumors" and leaks..... then yes, that's what they do. but the manufacturer and seller of this product never set any expectations, we set them as consumers from what we were fed by the tech media.

pretty much.
Lastest in processing, graphics, bluetooth, radio chipset, NFC, wireless charging (Very few phones support this), excellent software, a rather well built device, great screen, acceptable battery life, acceptable camera...... and to package it all in a $350 price tag...it's no small feat indeed. I think the more we take THAT into account, we can begin to appreciate the $350 price tag.

unfortunately, there are other economic factors that play into the pricing here when involving other countries that just out of Google's hands. Customs, taxation, economic conditions all play a role in it....... just things that can't be controlled in all cases.

Yes but in my case it is completely reasonable for me to moan about low QC, battery, speakers, and camera when I paid full price. Of course I won't be doing that because the nexus 5 is awesome for the most part.

I certainly wouldn't trade a working HTC One or Note 3 for one as some have suggested. Not even a G2. But for those who need a new phone on their own dollar there is no other choice.
My phone is perfect in every way not one defect. Best phone i have owned. Coming from a s3

It's not only hardware. It's also this f****** closed source cpu drivers with Samsung, (exynos), the considerable delay to have version updates with correct sources and so on. A lot of major companies tend to turn like Apple. (See Knox, region simlock and so on)
Google is not a charity foundation neither, but at least our devs have less pain to bring us good roms.
Yeah 350 for you guys in the states, I got mine at 520 in asia
Life is not fair
12 hours usage so far today, battery is at 73%. Spent about an hour streaming music over wifi at the gym. About 1 hour of sporadic screen on time. Pretty happy with the battery.
What people forget is that when they get a new phone they tend to spend much more time than usual installing new apps, testing things out. The battery ran out on me and I started to agree with you all... until i realised i had installed 80 apps and played 3 different games for 4 hours of screen on time. (add on top of this all the stuff going on in the back ground setting things up).
Its a nexus device I guess aim toward developer so they can build better apps and stuff. The regular Betty and Nancy can love along lol
