lag in custom roms - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi, i have flashed almost all the custom roms in captivate but i always get lag in opening and closing apps. when ever i set no animation option. then every thing goes well

And your question is...?

my question is, y i always get lag when opening and closing apps ???

Was there lag on your stock rom? Are you running a lot of apps in the background? Are you trying to use a task killer? Have you tried different kernels?
You also can't expect an Android phone to run quite as smooth as an iPhone, if that's what you're expecting. There will be lags here and there.

No i had no lag on stock rom. i m not runnning lots of apps, and also i m not using task killer.

For what it's worth I agree with you. I've tried most roms out for the cappy since eclair (on Illuminance KK4 now) , and every one of them has had lag when compared to stock. My wife's stock 2.2 cappy is smoother and boots twice as fast.

You should try different launchers. The smoothest one I have used is LauncherPro. CyanogenMod 7 comes with ADW which does lag at times but it still much better than TouchWiz. I don't know what you guys are talking about with stock being smoother and all. CyanogenMod 7 really increased the speed of my Captivate. And now with CyanogenMod 9 things are smoother and faster than ever before.

Question anyone feels laggy when running Fruit nija?

Here is the question, i always feel a little bit of laggy when i am running fruit nija the game. I am currently running cognition 4.3 with voodoo lagfix enabled. I overclocked to 1.4g but didn't fix the problem.
I wonder where the lag comes from, cappy has a very powerful gpu as we all know. But seems didn't work out with the little game

once in a while it doesnt detect my finger swipe but for the most part, I dont have lag issues on my setup.
Ya I've I noticed the lag before even with oc sometimes. I personally think its an issue with the amount of usable ram the cappy has.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
any idea to fix its?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Usually just killing all your apps and background apps with a taskkiller does the trick and frees up some ram for me anyways
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
yeah it's laggy. I don't find killing programs helps. I always figured it was not optimized on our phones, but the memory explanation makes sense.

I think fruit ninja is smooth...
Just tried it right now (and ended up playing a few times ) on Serendipity 6.3 and it's running perfectly fine.
I just flashed the latest Phoenix ROM(JS8) with the Speedmod k13d Kernel(lagfix on,no overclock) ,I don't know,Ninja becomes smooth
Here is a theory :
Fruit Ninja is optimized for i9000 not for captivate

have you had a chance to run it on the iPhone? It's night and day imo.
and to the above poster- I don't think that can be the case since they're essentially identical inside. I'm not sure if FN is an iOS port over to android but maybe that may be a possible reason.

That's impossible, I don't think it can differenciate since we are running on the same Hummingbird processor.
Moved as not android development
Even when I was just using a modified stock ROM way back in September and Fruit Ninja just came out it sill ran fine for me. The only thing I see go down was the graphic quality (maaaybe).

Stupid question, but hey, why not

Hi all,
Any logical reason why Froyo would be smoother, faster, etc, than gingerbread on my particular hero.
I have tried most if not all the variations. Fresh installs, etc.
Currently using AOSP Froyo.
Not a big deal, just curious that's all.
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA Premium App
I think it has to do with the gingerbread builds not including as many graphics and general performance tweaks as the final froyo builds. I think devs are still working on overall stability first. Once it's stable I think we'll start seeing performance get better.
Aosp froyo probably ran the best on my phone to date. I'm currently using CM7 and am enjoying it, but have had a few minor issues; blank black screen coming up, though not lately, market issues and my battery life doesn't seem as good as it was on aosp froyo. Aside from that it really does run well. CM recently released CM7.02 which I put on my phone this morning. I haven't been using it long enough to notice any difference. My wife's phone still has aosp froyo on it and I may or may not update it to gingerbread.

Thanks, I was just wondering if many other people were seeing this.
Can't really see that GB has any significant advantage on the hardware limited hero. Although, it is fun to run something that was never ment to run on our phones.

CM7 vs ICS

Is it just me or somebody else there who preferes CM7 over ICS and feels CM7 is better, for the time being, than ICS, performancewise and customizationwise.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
CM7 is certainly more customizable for now, but if you're talking about performance and stability, both CM7 and CM9 are still not as good as some of the stock Froyo 2.2.1 roms, mainly due to free ram. With more free ram, the processor doesn't need to constantly close and reopen processes. Nonetheless, I prefer ICS over froyo and CM7 simply because of the many subtle yet important improvements, such as the keyboard and spellcheck, smoother game performance(eg: runs GTA3 with no lags), and the improved user interface.
ICS' only weakness in my point of view is the lousy multitasking, due to low ram on our galaxy s. I can't even open the browser and a simple game like angry birds at the same time without one of them being closed. Multitasking was slightly better on gingerbread and much better on Froyo.
CM7 in my opinion, is not faster than CM9, though it is currently more stable and has fewer bugs. But the huge community support that ICS has currently makes it better for me.
To check the multitasking I opened some apps and without killing them I checked the running processes. They are not shown there but in the cached running processes they are shown. Why?.

Cm9 is still in development phase... Cm7 is stable and being developed since long time. Once cm9 is fully developed we can compare them...

Yes, thats why wrote "for the time being" and definitely I'm not comparing them. I'm just asking the users opinion to choose.

CM7 was nice, but right now I'm just lovin ICS.It looks and feels way better.
CM9 all the way. I'm just surprised how good it is for alpha. Better than 2.3 roms, imo.

yes cm7 is much faster and stable than ics
Please remember that cm9 is still an ALPHA build.Sure it is not yet as custom able as cm7...but it will be. But back to the question tho , cm9 defo for me.

Yes, it is... Battery backup of cm7 is better than cm9 that's why I'm back to cm7.
Sent from my MB525
I have never tested cm7. I think if you want to use a custom ROM, you should take ICS.
There isn't only cm9, you can also use something like AOKP (or BLUE LIGHTENING, a AOKP based ROM from BHuvan goyal), it is nearly bug free and very customizable!
If you like the stock ROMs, stay there!

How to make your note smooth and fast?

Guys, recently just flashed kingdroid a I'm in search of the best rom. I'm disappointed however because my note scored fairly low in antutu benchmark test. Any one knows what makes the phone faster and get higher scores in benchmarks? Thanks.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
Ehh....benchmarks vary so much. It all depends on what you are running (app-wise) and such. Anything can change a benchmark score.
Does the ROM "feel" smooth? Does it run good for you? This is what matters most, not benchmarks.
What really borders me about the note is the scrolling. There will always be aome scrolling lag. No doubt the phone is fast, but why the scrolling is laggy? Eg. Whatsapp scroll.

Try different kernels Bro
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
Tried the bestest rom and kernel out there but it still cant eliminate the scroll lag. Well there might be some improvements but its not as smooth as sgs2. Anyone out there having smooth scrolling as good as sgs2?

Theres really no best KERNEL or CUSTOM ROM unless you try them all and test it on your device, EACH device acts differently, for instance ICS Stunner may be really awesome on a majority of Galaxy Notes but on mine it struggles.
You can't go wrong by trying out all different ROMS and match the suited Kernel, I know its time consuming but it's worth it in the end as you'd know which ROM and Kernel suits your needs.

I am on Kingdroid and I flash Franco r5. When I used it with Franco updater, I can run the phone at 1600 MHz with v2.0. I am happy with the performance compare with other ICS rom I tried. However it is still not as fast in scrolling as my present sgs2 with Malice rom.
By saying the "best" rom and kernel means that the majority of the community is using and trust. And i had tried ALL the ics custom roms but still the lag is there. Im coming to know maybe there is no way to eliminate the lag. If someobe out there claim that they have no lag, pls share a video thanks.

When I tried some ics roms I found them to be really laggy and there were a few bugs. If u want something really smooth I suggest u stick with GB for the time being until all tje ics problems get sorted out.

Just try Rocket ROm v4 i think the scrolling in RR roms is generally smoother compared to other roms as i have been on all ICS roms there and found RR roms has better scrolling generally. Asylum too is smooth with thor .10 kernel
try KingDroid ICS ROM v2.0 it osum

[Q] Stable ROM for older person

what would be a good stable ROM for an older person? I am leaning towards MavRom 4.0 since I've been reading 4.5 has issues.
The only major working things they need is bluetooth and camera, so I take it no ICS roms.
Also, I am trying to get either Apex or Nova for them as well to be able to lock the desktop.

I personally use MavRom 4.0, it's nice and stable. I would say either debloated stock (if they have no prior android knowledge, this would be best), or mavrom, although it has more options and whatnot, might not be the best for an older person. I've heard Nova has been unstable (but that might be on ICS/JB, not sure, never used it) and I've not used Apex either... I've always stuck with stock launcher or ADW.
There's a little information, but I would say for stability and whatnot (and emergency text system that's recently been implemented). Just root it with motofail, then run a debloat script on it, just make sure not to remove DLNA (this is required for HDMI).
I suggest Liberty or Maverick, I find Liberty is extremely stable and has the best battery life.
Also I'm pretty sure Apex and Nova launcher are ICS exclusive, I could be wrong though.
MavRom 4.0 is great. Extremely stable, great battery life, and everything works. I suggest Holo Launcher for a nice, AOSP style launcher

What ROM the has the.best battery life? From my observations it. Is Liberty or minimoto. How you think ?

I've used both. Minimoto. Im on the 883 radio. I didn't charge my phone last night and am still going. It is about 50% now. I haven't used it heavy but Liberty doesn't make it past one day.
