[Q] i flashed my galaxy s wrong! help please! - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

today i wanted to flash my galaxy s to ics.
my galaxy s was already rooted so i put the zip in the root of my phone.
so then i went to recovery mode and installed ics and im sure i followed every step in the tutorial. But when booting it didnt stop booting and it was like that for an hour. so then i tried to flash it back to the firmware i had before.
i tried to flash back to gingerbread with odin but now it cant boot beyond the galaxy s gt-19000 screen.
i tried to go to recovery mode but in recovery mode everywhere its saying
"E: unknown volume for path {/data}
E: unknown volume for path {/data}
E: Unable to process volume! Skipping..."
and so on...
please help me
the firmware i need ends with jvi thats all i remember...

dude u can get stock firmware from samfirmware.com,try flashing darkyrom 10.2 re it saved me acouple of times good luck
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php

thank you for the answer ill try it

try going back to smthn like jvt or jw1 via odin and then if u want to flash ics follow the video on youtube by totallydubbedhd

You need to flash a rom stock using ODIN. If I understand correctly you must enable the option to re-partition so be sure to also include the .pit file when you will flash, then proceed to install ICS. It is recommended to remove the SD-EXT before starting to install because it can pass to enter a bootloop.

[Q] Clockworkmod Recovery error: signature verification failed!

Hi all,
I installed JPY (2.2.1) Rom on my SGS yesterday, rooted my phone with SuperOneClick.
Tested the phone, everything is ok and the root is also ok.
Then installed Clockworkmod, flash cwm recovery 2.5.1.2, click on Backup, the phone automatic rebooted but presented my with a normal recovery screen.
In it I can do something like; a factory reset, clean card data, restart or click on update.zip (I thing that goes to the update.zip that cwm put on my sdcard).
But when I click it gives this error:
Install from package...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Tried everything... What can I do in order to cwm works and backups my sgs??
All the help is appreciated...
Thanks,
you loose 2e recover when going to froyo.. needed for clockwork ..
flash a kernel that restores it ie
chainfire/cf or speedmod or backlight notifiction ie bln kernel.

So what are you saying is that CWR doesn't work with 3e recovery? Only with 2e?
Because 3e does not allow unsigned zips hence the error message..

install CF-root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108 to get 2e recovery then reflash CWM recovery and try again...

Thanks for the explanation,
Didn't know why it works with one and not the other...
Anyway, its working now, thanks for all the help!
For anyone that has the same problem, here is what I did:
Flashed the phone with I9000XXJPY and with Odin. You can find JPY here: http://www.multiupload.com/UHJNT0K1F2
Put PIT 512 in PIT and in PDA put the file JPY_JPY_JPY.tar (no repartition selected).
Shutdown the phone after it starts.
Start Odin again and in PDA put this file: CF-Root-XX_XEU_JPY-v1.3-BusyBox-1.17.1
You can download it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
After that you can install CWM. When you click in backup and the phone restarts see if 2e restore appears in top of the screen if so all is ok.
Also, if a normal screen appears just click in update.zip and after that you will see the cwm screen.
In the cwm recovery screen the sgs buttons are like this: back button is the “enter” and the “menu” is the back button.
P.S. If you need to install TPH for Portuguese language just tell me, cause the CSC installed is KOR and you don't have TPH in CSC file to install.
Once again, Thanks to all who help me!

Great explanation but for the record (for anyone looking for a solution), if you're already on a 2.2 firmware, you can simple start at the step of flashing a custom kernel that supports CWM (i.e. there's no need to first flash to JPY).

How about
1. Repartition with a 512 pit from odin.
2. Flash Stock JM8 or JM9 (Usually i am flashing JM8 when things get messed)
3. Use update zip and install clockworkmod from it . (you will not have any signature errors because now you have recovery 2e)
4. Sometimes you will have to apply sd card update twice to get to CWM.
5. Vola, now you have working clockworkmod recovery and you can flash whatever the things you want with it

horrible suggestion you both need to search b4 posting.. been posted multiple at least 20 times now.. you DONT need to go install a new rom and blow everything away on your phone just to get 2e recovery so clockwork works.. search search.. there are kernels out there you can flash to get back 2e recovery

Oh yeah. forgot to mention it. there is a post that have a kernel which gives you recovery 2e on JPY firmware. (Don't know other firmwares has it or not)
Anyway, in my case i like to blow everything and start all over when i got messed up. because i don't use my sgs for very precious works. i'm just playing with it
Kudos to the lgkahn for bringing this kernel thing up

Okay..seems like this thread is getting nowhere..
Go to the android development section and look for hardcore's speedmod kernel. Download the latest version and flash it via Odin.
Btw, let me give you a tip once you are in hardcore's thread. PLEASE READ THE FIRST 3-4 POSTS AND FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS.
I don't think you are exerting enough effort to research here in the forum so I just gave you one of the simplest and shortest step to have CWM directly.

is it OK to use Stericssion autosin.bat to sign the update.zip downloaded by CWM and then flash it using recovery 3e? We will not have to flash the CF Kernel.

I followed the instructions, but odin seems to be freezed afeter <SET PIT FILE>

(sorry can't add the picture since i'm new).
I waited 20 minutes but nothing happens....
Should i wait again? Can i unplug and try again?
Thanks
this might be a silly question but are you already rooted and have recovery 2e?
Thanks for your answer.
I'm rooted but i have recovery 3e.
After serveral tries, i was not able to reformat using the pit provided with darky's.
Fortunately it worked with another pit file, and after that i was able to flash an official rom, but now after the boot, i have a black screen with the phone vibrating.
When i go into recovery mode, i see
Update medie, plesae wait

go to market

re start phone
once done download darkys rom
reboot to download mode (should now have 2e)
flash zip
choose zip
find darkys

Hello,
Thx all for your help.
Finally i was able to unbrick by flashing an official JS3 kernel with the 3 files (PDA-CSC-MODEM) and reformat using a 803 pit file.
I don't know why, everything i tried with only 1 pda file didn't work

[Q] Galaxy Ace stuck in reboot loop

My Galaxy Ace is stuck in a reboot loop after trying to flash 2.3.6 onto it, when it had 2.3.5 on it previously.
I've used ODIN and no matter what firmware I try to flash onto it, it just goes into a reboot loop.
Any idea how to fix it?

select wipe with help of volume keys and there you go out of bootloop
My Galaxy Ace is also in some sorta reboot loop.
Everything was working fine with it (phone is rooted and CWM installed) until I did a phone reset because I was giving the phone to my gf. After doing this the phone reboots, the blue samsung logo plays (without sound) and then repeats ad-infinitum. I can get into recovery mode and download mode ok and I've tried wipe and even restored a CWM backup (it says it was successful) but the phone just keeps rebooting. I can see the phone in odin but I've never tried to flash anything onto it and quite frankly I'm unsure whether it would just make things worse (if it needs to go back to Samsung for repair). Any help would be appreciated...
If you have cwm ..why dont you download some custom rom like cm7and flash it ..that would bring your phone back to life ...then you can downgrade to stock rom if you want ...and btw in cwm try cache partition , clear data /factory reset and clear dalvik cache ..see if it boots after you do this ..

when i always flash by odin or by cwm i always do wipe , wipe cache and wipe dalvik, this helps me everytime
I managed to flash a firmware from samfirmware and it fixed the reboot.
Now my issue is when I connect to Kies, it says there's an updated firmware for the phone but it fails every attempt to install it. I went back to samfirmware and found this firmware: S5830ZSKPD ## but when I download and extract it there's only 1 x MD5 file and 1 x DLL file?! The other firmware had the 4 or 5 files needed to include in Odin... any ideas guys?
I think its a "one package file " ..I forgot the correct name but there is some option like that in odin ..dont worry it contains all the required files ..and if you are scared to do it then go to you tube ..there are many tutorials showing it then...

Yep, that's exactly what it was, thanks again.
Unfortunately with this firmware, Kies doesn't recognise it and provides no info.
I flashed back to the older firmware... I'll just have to keep experimenting I guess.

Well I could flash it with Odin if I had the firmware but I don't.
It appears it's not available on SamFirmware.com
Do you know where I can download the following firmware?
PDA:KPD / PHONE:KPD / CSC:KPC (THL)
Thanks
Lol I cant understand those firmwares ..can you tell me which version of android you want like 2.3.4/2.3.5/2.3.6 ...then ill be able to help you wanr

Thanks anyway but I managed to find the firmware online and flashed it using Odin.
Now Kies says I'm using the latest which is a good start : )
Now I just need to find a way to root my SGS2 GT-I9100T
U can try a custom ROM from the Developer's forums here.
I also once stucked in the Reboot Loop..............
But then I installed a custom or if you want features from a official Rom, you can install Stock Based custom ROm from the Developer forums of Galaxy Ace. Really good Rom have been made by the developers
In the chance that someone else is looking for this latest OEM firmware update:
PDA:KPD / PHONE:KPD / CSC:KPC (THL)
It can be downloaded from: http://translate.googleusercontent....flgljh&usg=ALkJrhiMpHV83dugh4RGwhKpyjIrYIgn2Q
It is in "one part file" format and can be flashed using Odin.
whatever may be the problem ......just rem to keep a backup of ur previously used rom and just flash it with cwm...
Progress?

Support needed! CWM unable to find E:/data

Hello!
I have a i9000 which I recently rooted. I did a nandroid backup after installing CWM. I then proceeded to install the ICSSGS RC4.2 .
And that was successful. It worked fine for over a week. I then wanted to restore it back to default TouchWiz, so I booted into recovery and initiated a recovery from earlier backup.
Then when I rebooted, it did not go past the i9000 Galaxy S Splash screen. Its stuck there. When I try to restore again or install from ZIP, it does not work. It says
E:unknown volume for path [/data]

Thanks for your help. In advance
Made this same mistake myself. You will need Odin. Then you need the 512 pit file and the 3 files of a stock ROM. You can get a stock ROM from Samfirmware. Search google for this. Now start Odin. select pit and the 3 files. (modem, pda & csc) check repartition and now put phone into download mode and connect to PC. Once Odin connect light on hit start. let it run through process and reboot. At this point mine did not restart.don't worry repeat the process this time make sure repartition is off and flash only the 3 files without the pit file. Now you should be fine.
The reason for error is that cm and Samsung don't use same file structure.

[Q] Galaxy S stuck on boot screen

hello,
I try'd to install cm7 but it failed.
i can go in download mode and in recover mode but in recover mode i got :
E: unknown volume for path [/data]
.......... ( and more errors )
what can i do?
i dont have clockworkmod...
i was on I9000XXJVO and if i can recover it by using odin give me a download link for an rom (A)

You could have found this if you used the search button.
Generally your error can be resolved by flashing a stock ROM with PIT and partition ticked.
Stock rom can be found at sammobile.com..
thanks i fixed it now and rooted my phone but can i install a custom rom of will i get the bootloop?
Custom rom use new version of recoveri. When you went in bootloop pull out battery, and put it back and then enter in recovery and flash custom rom

well there are some custom rom that after applying it the phone is stuck on bootloop usually you just have to remove battery then install the update again..
btw just follow the instruction on to how to update to your chosen custom rom and make sure you followed the pre requisites as to avoid bricking your phone...
there are some custom rom that requires certain firmware before you could actually update to that custom rom. like if you need to be on xxjvz update your phone to xxjvz first then apply the custom rom.
try sammobile.com... for some stock firmware if ever you needed to update to it...
Unbrick
Thanks this was the only thing that surpised me on galaxy player
