[GUIDE] Complete and Thorough Guide to Rooting the Nexus S [+ No wipe] [GRH78C]

May NOT work for 2.3.3, if attempting on 2.3.3 use old part 1! - Will wipe all data though
Windows ONLY!
Hey guys, rooted my Nexus S today, and decided to write a thorough, detailed guide on how I did it, as none of the guides I had found had everything detailed. I came across a few problems, and all of this is in the guide. I successfully completed it on my Nexus S running 2.3.2, so any version below that will also work.
The original guide was made by AllGamer, and can be found here. I followed this guide, and added things when I found it was needed
The full guide with everything (including links, pictures) can be found on my site, Complete Android.
New info: Upon finding another thread over at XDA (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931865) it has been realized that you can root your Nexus S without unlocking the bootloader, and therefore not loosing your data on the SD card. Part 1 for the new method is still the same, but choose the new Part 2!
WARNING: Rooting your device will wipe all data off it, so you will loose EVERYTHING! Make sure you backup all important data first. Only applies to old Part 2 (fastboot oem unlock method), but it is still a good idea to backup important information!

What you will need:
Nexus S (obviously)
Android 2.3 SDK
USB Cable
PDAnet (for drivers)
Clockwork Recovery Image
Superuser
Part 1
Download the Android 2.3 SDK (or direct from Google here, 32MB).
Once it has finished downloading, unzip it, and run the SDK manager.
Select whatever components you wish to install, but you MUST make sure you install Google USB Driver (Available packages > Third party Add-ons > Google Inc. Add-ons > Google Usb Driver package, revision 4) otherwise this guide will not work!
We must now install the Google USB Driver, or the phone will not be recognised as a device other than a mass storage device.
Connect your Nexus S to your computer, and put it in USB storage mode.
Put it in USB Debugging Mode (Settings > Applications > Development > USB Debugging)
Windows should now recognise your Nexus S when you plug it in, and ask to install drivers. It probably won’t find anything, so we need to help it manually.
(Installing drivers manually varies between Windows versions, so please refer to http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html if you are having trouble). Launch Device Manager (you can find it in Control Panel), find Other Devices, and listed under that heading, you should find Nexus S. Right click, and select Update Driver Software. Click Browse my computer for driver software, find your SDK folder, then the google-usb_driver folder inside it, click OK, then Next. This should install the USB driver successfully. Reboot your computer.
Power off your Nexus S, connect it to your computer via USB cable, and boot it into the Bootloader Interface (you can do so by holding down the Power and Volume Up buttons at the same time).
It should say LOCK STATE – LOCKED, in white just above the green Android. You are now ready to move on!
Part 2 - Fastboot oem unlock method - WIPES ALL DATA!
We now need to install PDAnet on our PC so that Windows can see our Nexus S when we are using the Command Prompt. Install PDAnet from here, select Samsung when asked about the Manufacturer, allow the driver to be installed (because the driver is unverified, don’t worry about this!). Follow along with any other instructions. You should be set now.
With the latest SDK version, some tools have been relocated to another directory, so we need to make a copy and move them back. Navigate to the directory where you unzipped the Android SDK file in part 1. Inside it, go to the platform-tools folder, and copy both AdbWinApi.dll and AdbWinUsbApi.dll. Go back to the main Android SDK directory and find the tools folder. Paste these two files in there, and we are all ready to use ‘fastboot oem unlock’ (the rooting command) now.
Open a command prompt window (Start > Run > cmd.exe).
Change to the tools directory within your Android SDK folder by using the following command (without the quotes and replacing *YOUR SDK* with the path to your Android SDK folder) ‘cd c:\*YOUR SDK*\tools’.
Make sure your Nexus S is still in the Bootloader Interface (refer to step 9, part 1 of it isn’t).
Now in the command prompt, type in (without the quotes) ‘fastboot oem unlock’.
Now turn your attention to the phone, and read through the new information displayed on the screen. Using the Volume keys select Yes, then press the Power button. This will WIPE EVERYTHING! I bear no responsibility for any lost data on your phone!
If everything is successful, on your phone, the LOCK STATE should now read UNLOCKED, and on your computer, the command prompt window should say something like this:
Download the Clockwork Recovery image (here if you don’t already have it) to your Android SDK tools folder (*Android SDK*\tools).
Rename the newly downloaded Clockwork Recovery image to ‘recovery.img’ (no quotes).
Now we need to flash it to our Nexus S, so enter this command into the Command Prompt (make sure it is in the Androis SDK tools folder!) ‘fastboot flash recovery recovery.img’ (without the quotes).
If all is successful, the Command Prompt window should look something like this now:
Download the superuser app to the Android SDK tools folder.
Power on your Nexus S, leaving it connected to USB.
Mount the USB storage, and drag and drop the superuser .zip file you just downloaded into the root of the internal SD card (so Computer > *Device Name*, not in any other folders!). It should look something like this:
Power off the Nexus S, and return to the Bootloader Interface (step 9, part 1).
Select Recovery using the Volume buttons, then the Power button.
The phone should reboot into Clockwork Recovery, but if not don’t panic, just repeat steps 9-12, including downloading a new copy of the file (mine only worked the second time around, don’t worry!)
Using the Volume buttons and Power button, select install zip from sdcard.
Select choose zip from sdcard.
Select the su-version#-signed.zip file you downloaded earlier and apply it.
Select yes (there are lots of nos).
Confirm it says something like this: install from sdcard complete
Select Go Back.
Select Reboot. (You will now also have an unlocked padlock when you boot up)
Done! You now have to set up your phone again like when you first got it, but it will be rooted now.
New Part 2 - Does NOT wipe everything - Keeps a locked bootloader
Make sure Part 1 is completed.
Make sure you have downloaded the Clockwork Recovery file and the Superuser file.
Move the Clockwork Recovery file to your tools folder within the Android SDK folder, and rename it to recovery.img (for simplicity).
Connect your Nexus S via USB to your computer and mount it as USB storage. Copy across the Superuser file to the top level of your sdcard. (So the first window you see, not in any other folders. The sdcard is just where all the files are stored, don't worry about it too much for now).
We now need to install PDAnet on our PC so that Windows can see our Nexus S when we are using the Command Prompt. Install PDAnet from here, select Samsung when asked about the Manufacturer, allow the driver to be installed (because the driver is unverified, don't worry about this!).
Paste these two files in there, and we are all ready to use 'fastboot boot' (the boot image command) now.
Open a command prompt window (Start > Run > cmd.exe).
Change to the tools directory within your Android SDK folder by using the following command (without the quotes and replacing *YOUR SDK* with the path to your Android SDK folder) 'cd c:\*YOUR SDK*\tools'.
Make sure your Nexus S is still in the Bootloader Interface (refer to step 9, part 1 of it isn't).
We now need to use the 'fastboot boot' command to load Clockwork Recovery onto our Nexus S. In the command prompt, type in the following (but without the quotes, as always) 'fastboot boot recovery.img'
Once you are in Clockwork Recovery (it may take a couple of tries, don't panic, just redownload Clockwork Recovery, and complete steps 3 and 10, part 2) it should look something like this:
Using the Volume buttons and Power button, select install zip from sdcard.
Select choose zip from sdcard.
Select the su-version#-signed.zip file you downloaded earlier and apply it.
Select yes (there are lots of nos).
Confirm it says something like this: install from sdcard complete
Select Go Back.
Select Reboot.
Done! You should still have all your data present on your phone, and have root access!
Notes
As AllGamer said in his tutorial:
It’s normal to lose the recovery after the reboot, the steps to flash the CW recovery needs to be repeated every time you want to access the CW recovery.
This is due the build in protection in 2.3
As some one pointed it out on another topic, the good thing about this is that you’ll never lose the stock recovery of 2.3, thus minimizing the chance of a bricked phone.
If you want to the CW recovery to remain permanently, you’ll need to rename /etc/install-recovery.sh to something thing else

Keep this in mind! It's not because you did something wrong
Also, some root apps require BusyBox to be installed, as I found out with Titanium Backup, so once you set up your Nexus S again, head on into the Market, and download BusyBox. It installed fine on my Nexus S this way, and now TB works fine.
I hope this is the best, most thorough guide you will find on rooting the Nexus S. Enjoy! Feedback is appreciated, and I will help out if you need any extra help.
Your guide has been wonderful however I'm stuck on part 2, step 4. I tried writing in the path to my directory and they keep giving me whatever I wrote in the command prompt "is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file"
"Change to the tools directory within your Android SDK folder by using the following command (without the quotes and replacing *YOUR SDK* with the path to your Android SDK folder) ‘cd c:\*YOUR SDK*\tools’."
This is how my command prompt looks like when I first open it. "C:\Users\Du>"
and this is what I typed in the command prompt: "Downloads\android-sdk_r09-windows\android-sdk-windows"
^^^I did exactly what you said above and nothing is happening. I don't know whether I'm writing in the directory wrong or what. Please help me out thanks
Your guide is nice, however as shown in distortedloop's stickied Root & Recovery thread, fastboot oem unlock is not required for rooting & flashing. We no longer have to lose all our sdcard data when first rooting and/or flashing a ROM.
Other than that, this seems to be a nice amendment of Allgamer's sticked root & recovery thread. I'm sure it will be useful to many.

Ok so if you want to change directories in the command prompt, you need to use the command
Code:
cd
So in your case I would type in
Code:
cd c:\Users\Du\Downloads\android-sdk_r09-windows\android-sdk-windows\tools
That way is fool proof, however you could take a shortcut, because you are already in the Users/Du folder (because of how it looks when you first open it), you could just type in
Code:
cd Downloads\android-sdk_r09-windows\android-sdk-windows\tools
Hope that helps

I'm not sure that wiping all your data pointlessly is "cleaner."
It's not even clear what exactly the oem unlock of the bootloader really does for us, since you can get into clockwork recovery without that step. Once you're in clockwork you pretty much own the phone. I'll be interested to see if someone can use clockwork to flash a new boot image once rooted without the unlock; if so I can't see any reason to unlock the bootloader. That said, mine is unlocked, and I like it that way, but many won't root for fear of losing data on the phone.
Even if you end up having to do the oem unlock in the long run for some activities you want to do, it seems that rooting, then installing Titanium and backing up your apps and app data fully is a better way to go than just losing all your data (any app that doesn't store its data on the sdcard) that can't be backed up without root would be a lot less painful than WIPING everything on the phone, including the sdcard.
It's not worth arguing about, but I think any method that is including the oem unlock step should at least mention that that step can be skipped. How many people will go through the pain of a wipe that they didn't need to because they didn't see that there was an option without it. I guess that's there own fault for not doing enough searching on their own...
Anyways, nice and thorough effort. I'm sure many will benefit from your additions to AllGamer's tutorial.

I have been wondering that myself. My guess is that for the average user you don't need to, but maybe it's for real power users who build their own ROM which has been fully modded or something, I'm not sure.

I definitely agree with that, and your guide is probably the best way for those people!

Exactly, this is one of the better uses for both methods. I already had to wipe my phone twice due to Samsung CS so I'm used to it Although it does give you a chance to clear out the apps you don't need. Doing that I noticed better battery life on my phone.

I wasn't going to argue I'm happy to adjust my tut to include something about this, after all it was aimed at more beginners.
EDIT: Added a new part to my tutorial based on your guide, just includes some more detail. Thanks again.
Thanks distortedloop
This is awesome cause i relocked my bootloader i really just needed root. Thanks!
Edit oops lost track of tabs open.
I think we can use this method to unlock oem without wiping data.
boot cw -> full backup -> unlock and flash cw (wipes data) -> restore backup (got ur data back and oem unlocked)
the only problem i can think of is that restoring backup would re-lock oem again but i am not sure of that.
i can't try this right now but if someone could, please give feedback.

That's what I suggesting a couple of posts above (root without unlock to at least make a backup of user data).
Restoring a titanium backup would not re-lock the phone. A nandroid restore might, depends on what all it imaged and restores, but it's so easy to re-root, that doesn't seem like a big deal.

I've been working on it I just wanted to get it up here as soon as I could That's why I mentioned that the full guide is available on my website. I'm going back to school today, so I don't really have too much time for changing links now. Besides, most people on XDA should know how to look at the 'What's needed' part

Jonathon,
Thank you for posting this detailed guide to rooting without losing your data! I do have a question. As you've probably heard, there are a few updates coming soon and if they are like they were on the N1, they always broke root. So getting root back was tricky unless I "unrooted" before applying the update. Using your method, is it easy to "unroot"? Thanks!
No problems
As for your problem, I never actually had a N1 so I don't exactly know why that would happen. So far from the 2 updates available to NS owners it seems like the OTA update does break root but it appears to be the same to get it back again. Can someone confirm this? I haven't been through an update with my root yet.
As for unrooting, if you haven't unlocked the bootloader (so you have followed the new part 2) I think it is just a case of finding a stock image (I think there's a GRH78 one around here somewhere) and booting into Clockwork Recovery and flashing it. That should remove root and then also give you a notice to install the GRH78C OTA update so you get the latest version.
I think that is what you meant? If you did unlock the bootloader (using the original part 2) then I think you just have to follow the same steps as I mentioned just then but afterwards go back into the bootloader interface and run 'fastboot oem lock' and it should be right.

Question on Part 2- step 1.
Code:
# We now need to install PDAnet on our PC so that Windows can see our Nexus S when we are using the Command Prompt. Why above step is required if one already installed USB Driver for Nexus S and "ADB devices" command can find the device ?
On Allgamer thread didnt ask to repeat installing USB driver ?
What purpose for the pdanet driver ?
I dont want to put redundant drivers into my system which may interfere each other during flashing process.

When I tried to use the fastboot command with my Nexus S connected, it would hang and not do anything, despite leaving it for about 5 minutes. I searched online, and found the PDAnet solution, so I don't know what the difference is exactly. All I found the Google SDK USB drivers to do is enable you to see your device in Device Manager, however you could try it without the PDAnet drivers, and let me know what happens!
Thanks
Thanks for the prompt reply.. I tried out the google driver..it doesnt work under fastboot. I eventually get the fastboot enabled driver..that could explain why the pdanet driver required.
After i installed the fastboot enabled driver, i could test the connectivity under fastboot with "fastboot devices"
thanks going to try out rooting..i just want simple root access..without wiping data is a ++ ..
I managed to run fastboot boot recovery.img...going into clockwork menu..apply the superuser.zip.(for froyo version)..till completion..no word of failure..
However after rebooting, su and SuperUser.apk are not installed.( I used adb to check the system/app and system/bin folder.
Edit- manage to root properly after system mounting .
Just a note..to properly complete the rooting, one need to apply mounting then mount system before applying the Superuser.zip install from sdcard.
Prior to step 11, you may want to add the following steps for folks having problem to get the superuser.zip to install properly.

Really Ankurcul was this really necessary? There are many existing guides already for this, all you have done is add laptop in. Hope this does indeed help someone but like I said many existing guides already.
Regards Slymobi.
MANCHESTER together UNITED forever
Mother of all caps lock.
Also, ADB=/= fastboot.
If you instruct them to just download the ADB files, they wont get faatboot along with it.
@slymobi if u search general q&a section half of the noobs generally question about gps issue nad then over and over again we have to tell them what procedure to adopt.
it's just simple to open a single thread so that in future as per you so many threads of just one question can be reduced....
@njec21-bro just calm down....i don't wanna rude with u.....so mind ur words otherwise pm me any comments u want to give....don't make this thread bad for noobs that they won't try this and keep questioning about simple things
I'm didn't mean to be rude, I just think you abused caps lock a bit.
My second point still stand though.
How you're saying it right now is that they just need to download ADB, which doesn't include fastboot.exe, which is needed for your guide.
Link to fastboot:
http://android-roms.googlecode.com/files/fastboot-win32.zip
k...that's was a mistake that i didn't included fastboot and thanks for that njec....
+1 respect man...
You might want to add to the guide that this procedure works only on devices that are S-OFF'ed with Revolutionary or have their bootloaders unlocked with HTCDev. Also, its perfectly usable on Linux as well.
Will try this
I will try and i will press the thanks button, if it works....
---------- Post added at 12:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:16 PM ----------
It will be nice if u add the flashing of KERNAL...
You might want to reduce your caps usage, it seems as though you're shouting, and this should go in the general section.
Sent from my Wildfire using Tapatalk 2 Beta-5
thanks 3xeno....
@usaff22-it's not shouting bt just want things clear that person reading it will read carefully.anything wont work will disguise this guide in which there is no point.what problem i faced and what i see in general sections about same gps issues i wrote.
i don't see any point in posting it in q&a section.
@balaedge- i'll look forward to it....same lame excuse college work....

[ROOT] How to Root Build 10.3.1.E.0.191 [GUIDE]

Disclamer: I take absolutely NO credit for this, I was searching through the forums and found a posting by ragingMonkey that worked for rooting the 10.3.1.E.0.191 build number for the Sony Xperia Z (C6606).
Well, here it is:
you should have your phone in developer mode and have usb debugging on
- i used a flash tool from d-h.st/Kb8
- switched my kernel to d-h.st/1Vz
- rooted with download.cnet.com/Kingo-Android-Root/3000-2094_4-75996768.html
1. you do this by opening flash tool. letting it install. then selecting you device and flashmode drivers.
2. then connect your phone to computer via usb
3. then click the lighting bolt in the top right in the menu bar.
4. a window will pop up. press the flashmode radio button then ok
5. another window will pop up.
6. on the right side of the window it will ask if you wanna wipe types of info like cache, data, applogs. if you want you can click those if not leave them blank.
7. then at the top you will see a browse button to browse files (i think its a ... button)
8. use it to find the kernel
9. after you do that click the flash button and follow the instructions.
10. the instructions are "1 unplug the phone. 2 turn off phone. 3 enter flash mode by pressing and holding the down volume button (while off). 4 connect device (still off)"
11. once you plug the phone back in the flash tool will exit the window you were in and be doing its process in the terminal like window in the original window.
12. after you do that. unplug the device and reboot it. then exit flashtool (important) and then
use the kingo android root.
13. it should do some installing then ask you to connect device
then just follow those instructions in which i dont have up so i cant tell you hope i helped
NOTE: It will say "Root Failed", although it actually did NOT fail and was successful!
BIG thanks to ragingMonkey!
Bye!
There is a much easier way, no different kernals needed. I have also heard alot of negative about kingo root.
Use the tools mentioned here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2547714
Download both the tools. Make sure you have USB debugging is on and install from unknown sources is on. One of the folders downloaded will have ABD files while the other will not. Copy the ADB files to the one that does not. Run the ADB.exe then run the tool, the install batch file.
I did this with a C6606 on 10.3.1.E.0.191.
Tried going through your suggestion, it didnt help help on my Tmobile C6606. Attached is a screenshot. any suggestions??
Here's my info though:
Android 4.2.2
Build: 10.3.1.E.0.191
Thank you.

Step by Step guide to unlock bootloader and root Huawei P8 lite ALE-21

After seeing lot of scams on rooting of this phone i wrote this little guide which can be used to unlock and root P8 lite ALE-21 without much effort successfully. Whenever i found something about rooting this device it took me to some survey scam or ad-wares. I used this method personally and it worked for me very well.
Below is step by step guide to root huawei p8 lite ALE-21.
A- Method for obtaining bootloader code is changed by huawei. Now you can get it online immediately by filling out their form. All you need is a huawei ID.
Request unlock code from huawei, to do so send email to [email protected] containing following lines.
In subject write bootloader unlock code request
body of email should contain
> IMEI-1: __________________________
> IMEI-2:__________________________
> S/No. _____________ (Can be found in settings/About phone/Status/Serial number)
Once you sent this email you need to wait from few hours to 48 hours.
B- Unlock boot loader on your device.
1- Download this zip file, unzip it and install in your PC (See attached pdf file).
2- Connect your phone via data cable to PC.
3- Switch it off and then by pressing volume down and power together make it in fastboot mode (in this mode you will see "Phone locked" in red color at bottom of screen)
4- Click icon on desktop for "Minimal ADB and Fastboot"
5- (A command terminal will open indicating directory where adb is installed)
6- Type in command without quotes "fastboot devices"
7- If you can see serial number of your phone you are going right.
8- In the command prompt, enter “fastboot oem unlock ****************”, where * refers to the 16 digit unlock password, e.g. fastboot oem unlock 1234567812345678”
9- Now you have unlocked bootloader, and you can see it on fastboot mode screen at bottom.
C- How to root P8 lite ALE-21
1- Download this zip file on your desktop and unzip it (see attached pdf file).
2- Open folder ROOT/data and install "UniversalAdb Driver Setup6"
3- Remove all passwords from phone and simple a swipe could unlock phone.
4- Now open folder named ROOT on your desktop and double click INSTALAR-ROOT-P8-LITE and follow instructions shown by batch file.
5- Once process is finished you will get a unlocked rooted huawei p8 lite phone.
I checked this procedure on my P8 lite ALE-21 and translated to English, also added more instructions to make it easier for a newbie.
UPDATE-1 : Root by using command line manually.
The root process is simple and achieved by adb and fastboot commands. See the attached screen shot for commands if you intend to do it manually. Make sure you have installed UniversalAdbDriverSetup6.msi from Root/data and unlocked bootloader before following steps below.
Instructions:
1- Connect phone with PC.
2- Open folder Root/data
3- Press Shift + Right click
4- Click “Open command window here”
5- Then execute commands in a sequence you can see in attached file "commandline.jpg"
UPDATE-2: Error Fix "Stuck on Installing SuperSu"
Very few users experienced that process get stuck on terminal displaying “Installing SuperSU” or copying SuperSU
Fix in my opinion: Restore stock recovery, boot in recovery and wipe cache partition and start the process again.
1- Remove data cable of phone and press power button (a bit longer) to restart it.
2- Connect phone with PC when you see home screen.
3- Open folder Root/data
4- Press Shift + Right click
5- Click “Open command window here”
6- Type in terminal “adb.exe reboot-bootloader”
7- Type or paste this command to restore stock recovery “fastboot.exe flash recovery stockrecovery.img”
8- Type “fastboot.exe reboot”
9- When your phone is completely started execute command “adb.exe reboot recovery”
10- Wipe cache partition only and reboot device.
11- Install UniversalAdbDriverSetup6.msi from Root/data folder.
12- Restart PC and Plug in Phone and restart batch file or follow UPDATE-1 above.
thanks
thanks
A thank you and some notes for future users
The original Spanish version uses the same files and works for my Dutch P8 Lite ( v100r001c432b046 )
You can find the link to the zip file in the pdf file from smchohan.
UNLOCKING
Huawei answered quite quickly (7 hours) (I also mentioned my Product ID) and I used my own Android SDK executables to unlock the bootloader.
Contrary to what I found online I didn't lose any user data while unlocking.
ROOTING
The bat file wouldn't run for me, so I manually executed the commands to see what was going on.
I used my own executables (Android SDK) and decided not to install the Google drivers (UniversalAdb Driver Setup6) (stupid me).
So when Windows start looking for Nexus drivers it couldn't find them. Solved it by installing them, unplugging my phone and re-executing adb.exe reboot recovery
After this I got an error while transferring the SuperSU binary. Solved it by using the executables delivered in the zip file instead of my own adb.exe
I created an account just to share my experiences and to thank the original author and OP for translating.
Not sure if all root apps will work currently on this phone
Thankyou pietjpuk92 for sharing your experiences.
Surely this is translated and recompiled from huawei website and a spanish forum.
After rooting my device i installed key to supersu free to make it supersu pro, all root apps work fine, tested root explorer and flashify but titanium backup latest and few old version does not work with full functionality, especially when i tired to convert a user app to system or a system app to user it just stuck in processing. Its not problem with root but few apps needs to updated for this device.
Hi Guys
Newb here. I got hold of the bootloader unlock code from Huawei Mobile and am trying to root my P8 Lite.
Having difficulties with step B. When I execute "fastboot devices" nothing happens. Phone is connected and "phone locked" is displayed.
Any ideas?
Cheers

These are the steps I followed to unlocked the bootloader:
1. Make sure USB debugging is enabled / HiSuite is able to make a connection
2. Check if you see your device with "adb devices"
3. Reboot into fastboot mode with "adb reboot bootloader". If you see "phone locked" than the bootloader is still locked.
4. Unlock the bootloader with "fastboot oem unlock ****************"
5. Wait. If the phone doesn't reboot by itself execute "fastboot reboot"
The "devices" command is used to see if your computer has a connection to your device.

First switch on usb debugging in developer options. you will be able to access developer option in this phone by going in settings/about phone and then tapping build number several times. after enabling developers mode connect your phone to PC. once you connect your phone to PC switch it off, and then switch it on by pressing volume down and power key together for few seconds, a white screen should appear at bottom of which phone lckoed is written.
now write in command fastboot devices and press enter you should see serial number of your phone in terminal. If still not working message here again i will write down more detail on it.

Thanks for the headsup, working now.
Started the process, runs through, install the drivers and gets stuck.
At this point the phone screen is black and the bat says "Installing SuperSU...."
Hangs here for some time and nothing happens. Restart the phone manually and nothing has changed. The bat file continues after the manual restart, it restarts the phone into the fastboot "phone unlocked". Restarts again, starts up normally, bat file finishes and phone is not rooted.
Can anyone push me in the right direction?
Thanks

You may have the same problem as me with the bat file not working correctly.
Open the bat file with a text editor and look for the commands that are executed (TASKKILL, adb.exe & fastboot.exe). In Notepad++ these will be light blue instead of dark blue.
Open a commandline window in the same folder as the bat file and manually execute the commands. The comments in the file (echo's) will be your guidance.
If you still have a problem, please mention at which command the error occurs.

Make it sure that you installed UniversalAdbDriverSetup6.msi file present in ROOT/data folder before starting step C. First install and then begin. when it shows black screen first time, on PC you will see installation of some drivers let it complete, then continue.

Could not say any thing about it, as it depends on huawei they have to provide unlock code, in my case it came after a day, but due to weekend they might have delayed. Wait for a day more, hopefully you will get code, or mail them again.

Hopefully you will get code or send them email again with correct serial number.
About your question answer is yes you can use any hwt theme, for that;
First download this theme, it will be downloaded in /download folder of internal storage, copy it from downloads to /HWThemes folder. Now open themes app and you will see it there, apply it.
So it doesn't matter if I use that theme even it's for Huawei P8 EMUI 3.0 ? Will it brick my phone?

[GUIDE]Huawei P8 Lite Downgrade/Unlock Bootloader/Root(5.0 and 6.0)/ Enable Gyroscope

Disclaimer:
I am not responsible for what you do to your device, I tested these things for myself and posted it from my own experience, if you point the finger at me for whatever happens to your device, I will laugh at you.
HOWEVER, I am willing to help as long as it is asked kindly, and provided me with enough information.
Requirements:
Huawei P8 Lite ALE-L21 (DUAL-SIM)
5.0 Firmware of choice
Unlocked bootloader
Patience
Correct drivers
SD card of atleast 8 GB
Drivers: Install these before even starting!
Minimal ADB Fastboot drivers
Huawei HiSuite
Kingoroot Windows
TWRP 3.0.2.0 Kirin variant
Preparing environment: Making sure no admin priveledge is necessary
Install all drivers mentioned above in their standard directories, don't change anything.
Go to the following path:
Code:
For x64 OS:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot
For x86_32 OS:
C:\Program Files\Minimal ADB and Fastboot
Copy these files:
Code:
adb.exe
AdbWinApi.dll
AdbWinUsbApi.dll
fastboot.exe
And paste them on the desktop, in a folder called "rootingtools" so you're easily able to find it.
Then, go to your phone and enable USB debugging mode by going to
settings - about phone - press Build number 7 times
settings - developer options - USB debugging
Copy the content of "TWRP-3.0.0-2_P8-lite_KIRIN_variant.zip" and paste it into the "rootingtools" folder.
Backing up: Even though the unlocking process is not going to wipe your data, atleast it didn't for me, make SURE you have everything that you need backed up from the phone's internal memory.
Backing up your SD card wouldn't hurt neither.
First things first, unlock your bootloader!
I used this: https://emui.huawei.com/en/plugin.php?id=unlock&mod=detail
What you do is: fill in everything correctly and get the number at the end. It should be something in the words of:
Code:
Your unlocking password is: XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX
(X resembles numbers, 16 numbers in total)
Copy the 16 numbers and go to the "rootingtools" folder on your desktop.
Hold the SHIFT key and right click inside the folder, then press "open command window here"
Now take your phone, power it off and power it on by holding volume DOWN and POWER.
You will get a white screen that says something like fastboot, and an android logo.
Plug your phone into the PC via USB cable.
In the command window write:
Code:
fastboot.exe oem unlock UNLOCKKEY
Where UNLOCKKEY represents the key you just copied, right clicking pastes the key in the command window.
It should return finished, so now your phone should be unlocked!
If you look at the screen, there will be text beneath the green Android logo saying "unlocked".
In this case, the operation has succeeded and you can go to the next step, else you can try again or post a reply.
Now write:
Code:
fastboot.exe reboot
Now the phone will boot up like normal.
Close the command window.
Android 5.0:
If your android version right now is Android 5.0, and you actually WANT to root 5.0 or anything below 6.0 you can proceed with this step, if you have 6.0 or want to root 6.0, skip this step.
Since your android version is 5.0 you're blessed!
You can easily root, but before proceeding you might want to make a backup
Make sure you have about 8GB of free storage either on an SD card or internal memory first.
Connect your phone to your PC in the booted-up state where you can see the homescreen, making sure that USB debugging is enabled.
Shift + right click inside the rootingtools folder to open a command window and write:
Code:
adb.exe reboot-bootloader
Your phone will reboot into the bootloader, a white screen with a green Android logo that says "unlocked" beneath it.
Now on the command window write:
Code:
fastboot.exe flash recovery recovery.img
Wait for it to finish and pull out the USB cable so it is NOT attached.
Power off the device by holding the power button, and power up by pressing volume UP + POWER.
Keep holding volume up until you see the Team Win logo.
Just slide the slider to the right.
Now go to "backup" and check every partition available.
In "name" you write:
Code:
MainBackupURTD
Then, go to the "options" tab and enable compression.
Go back to the "backup" tab and press "select storage".
From here you can choose where to back your data up, whether it be the internal storage or external SD card.
Press OK and swipe the slider to the right to start backing up.
Plug your phone in to make sure it doesn't power off during backing up, this process takes a while and you should let it do its thing.
When done, press "reboot system", your phone will reboot.
Let it fully start up.
Then, run Kingoroot on your PC.
Meanwhile, download the "SuperSU" app from the Play store.
Press the big "ROOT" button in Kingoroot and press "cancel" on every app your phone tries to install.
That way you will not install Kingoroot but SuperSU.
It will say "succeeded".
Now you can go on your phone and open the SuperSU app.
It will ask for an upgrade, press OK and go further with the normal installation (not the TWRP/CWM installation).
Let it do its thing and restart your phone.
Install any root checker and see if you're rooted!
Android 6.0:
Firmware version B188 or higher, below B524/B535 (excluding B524/B535):Upgrade firmware to this one: LINK (Link fixed)
Installation instructions: place file to the "dload" folder in your SD card or internal storage, then go to settings - updates - menu - local update and press the update.zip.
Then, follow the guide reported here: http://rootmygalaxy.net/root-huawei-p8-lite-android-marshmallow-6-0-update/
Enabling Gyro sensor (rooted android 6.0, B524/B535 firmware only! ( sorry :[ ) ):
Download attached file.
Put attached file to SD card.
Open ES file explorer, swipe to the right, enable root browser and click the R/W tab, then set /system as RW.
Then copy the attached file.
Paste the attached file in /system/etc/permissions
Press the search button and search for "gyro" without quotation marks.
Long press the only file that's there - menu and press properties.
Then change the permissions to 644, it should look like this O represents off, X represents on;
X X O
X O O
X O O
Set UID is off, Set GID is off, Sticky bit is off.
Reboot phone and download "Sensor box for Android" on the Play store and enjoy your gyroscope!
Now you can use Google Cardboard, though you have to install the APK...
You can watch 360 videos on youtube too.

Hiya, will the gyro hack work on a L02 B130 Android 5.0 as i can't get an update to 6.0 here in New Zealand?
unable to get unlock code
The Huawei ID used to apply for the unlock code has not been used on the device for more than 14 days.
@sevenaudio
As far as I know, the hack is for android 6.0 but there should be no problem in trying it out
It's just that it only worked for me on these FW
@DrLittle
I think Huawei has this policy of using your Huawei ID for 2 weeks (2 weeks online time) before you can unlock it
You could try sending them an email!

Firmware version B188 or higher, below B524/B535 (excluding B524/B535):Upgrade firmware to this one: mega:///#!OBVU3RyT!gSDNFMVtWVqA1HyneCuofhFmVVJ6lUDonzfKzjucbFs

I have android 6.0 firmware B311 and it doesn't show up the option local update, what should I do?
Attach pictures please
Its in portuguese, I had the option on the stock ROM but i don't have it now.
Should I downgrade to the firmware B300 and then install the new firmware?
do you think this works with ALE-L21 single sim too?
