[Q] Sharing market purchases between 2 phones - LG Revolution

First off all Sorry , this is not really related to Revo, but since I have 2 Revos, might just as well post it here.
On phone 1 , I want the full google a/c setup using say [email protected] , i.e. mail/calendar/talk/voice/market etc.
One phone 2, I want a full google a/c setup using say [email protected], but still would like to use the [email protected] for market , so that I only have to purchase apps one, and be able to use them on both phones.
I know android now supports multiple a/cs, and market can be made to chose a particular a/c. But on phone 2, I want [email protected] only for market, and nothing else, i.e. phone 2 should not fetch mails for [email protected], neither should calendar sync with [email protected], nor should talk interact with [email protected]
Is this doable ?

Google music cloud sync working on Thunderbolt!

Just discovered something awesome can't believe no one else has talked about this for the Thunderbolt yet but if you install the gingerbread music player (linked below) and then go into your Google account settings you'll now see an option to sync music. This syncs to Google's new cloud service and once done can be accessed even when your music is no longer on your phone.

I just finished installing and running it, currently syncing to the 'cloud'. I didn't have any problems so far that I can see. I left my music in my isyncr folder and the player recognized it right away. I'm running Perfect Storm v1.2.
Im confused, it sycns what is on your droid to the cloud or what you have on your library at home?

On your phone. Then you can delete from your SD once you have it in the cloud..
Do we have a size limit?

I cant seem to get mine working. The option in my accounts&sync is not there. Also, when I click account in the music app, nothing shows up.
Could it be that I didnt delete the older version of google music and have both installed?

I think that's it. On my X I had to uninstall the Gingerbread Music Leak before the new one would work.
It has a nice UI but I do not think there is a cloud to upload too. I only have about 25 songs and it has been syncing for 3 hours. I also signed into my google account and there is nothing there under settings that would appear to be syncing with my phone.
I see that its just an apk, do I have to be rooted for this to work.

I must agree with this. I have about the same number of songs and it just keeps on syncing. My path is sdcard/media/music just like the other thread said it needed to be for it to sync with the cloud and it's been syncing all night. I even did a reboot, removed the songs from my sdcard and then tried to stream them from the "cloud" and nothing shows up.
It's a nice music player but does not seem to be fully functional cloud sync at this time, (at least for me).
How is this different from AirSync for DoubleTwist app apart from being free? Also, do you think this will work okay in a non 4G area?

Why not get the Subsonic app. You can store music and videos on your home computer and watch & listen on your phone. The player is very nice, allows you to keep your SD card free and clear, it's free (small donation appreciated from dev and gives a few more options on the server side) and you can store as much as your PC can handle. Oh yeah, it's compatible with almost any platform.

I have been using this for over two years and have never had much problems. The only thing you really need is a static IP which I easily averted by creating a domain that uses DNSEXIT as its name servers. DNSEXIT uses your IP address for your domain and has an app you install on your server that updates the IP address everytime it changes so that your IP credentials are always correct. DNSEXIT is also a free service and I have been using this as well for the same length of time. Perfect combination if you ask me.
Just sayin'

Been using this for years.. Works great! But it is a Streaming server vs I think the Google sync actually copies the physical media to your phone. With Subsonic if you dont have a signal you dont have access to you library. Unless Ive been doing something wrong, and not using subsonic to its full potential?
Well I tried and couldn't get this to work and I downloaded this app called StartTalking it's a voice command app and I said play music and it said it needed a program called mSpot so I downloaded it and it has streaming as well as wireless syncing 5gb for free or 40gb for like $4 a month so pretty good and it has a pretty decent interface also I love the instant download feature it like databases your music and if you want you can download it to your phone from your computer! http://www.mspot.com

[Q] wow my 600$ phone cannot receive business cards

Why are business cards not supported by the galaxy note.. Cuz most of my clients and friends use Nokia phones and I really need that functionality.
people have started making fun of my phone cuz it does not even acknowledge receiving a simple v card. And I have to ask them specifically not to send a contact as a business card..
Are business cards propritary of Nokia or is there some other reason. Now don't give me answers like its not supported because its an outdated method of sharing contacts
At least the phone should acknowledge something right. I don't get any notification if someone sends a bcard.
Erm? Quick look in the Play Store says your phone can... Go try out a few...

I have another problem but also about Note VCard, that Note send the Vcard as mms and not everyone can receive mms
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542049
so is there any recommended app from that list to send and receive Vcards?
I've seen problems with vcards of all sorts when going from brand to brand and OS to OS. It's very common. Try receiving an Iphone one on another device to see the trouble.
Manufacturers seem to love to tweak the formatting of them just enough to make them unrecognisable to other manufacturers etc.
Most manufacturers don't see it as being of great importance, since the vcard has basically been superseded by the advent of the better and more flexible text messaging systems these days. Why use an out dated vcard when you can send a person's full business card in a easy read universal text format that android will automatically format into fields for U?
They can laugh, but it's them using antique methods that is funny.
To get around this, there may be a vcard app in the market, or you could try the excellent GoSMS Pro, which might handle it, but good luck, the old system often does cause problems.
Next time they laugh, hold on a contact on your device, press share, send them a contact by sms and see if they really think yours is the problem.
get a file browsing app for your phone, navigate to the vcard file, and try launching it. you should get the option to open it with 'contacts' or similar app.
let me know how you go.

yep, that's where they go when my g/f sends me vcards from her sgs2.
don't know how it's going to work if they're being sent from a nokia, but usually they're just attachments to an mms.
This problem occurred to me today and before started posting here, I've found out that it's actually received as MMS?!?!
So in order for you to get the business card, you will have to goto your message, click on the XXXXX.vcf > Menu button > Attached Items > Select XXXXX.vcf > Save.
Then it automatically save it to your /mnt/sdcard/download.
Go there click on the XXXXX.vcf file and it will ask you where to save it...
Althou it works, but it sure takes lots of steps...
vcard issues with QR codes
I generally share contact information using barcode scanner's QR code. But the Note's contacts for addresses seems to completely screw them - my address ends up littered with semi-colons?
The other thing is that it doesn't add the contact information automatically the way my HTC Desire did, instead it just takes you to the contact's app and then you have to click add. Weird and typically bad user interface design from Samsung.
Shame this, as it's far and away the easiest way to share a contact's details with someone.
CRAP >_<
why dont ppl use sharaing via barcode or other beautiful options
there are many ways of sharing contacts
have you guys tried sending contacts through bluetooth? i always use this option and it's working for me.
just wondering?
yeah!! It works
or just exporting to memory card and importing is pretty awesome
Guys Iam not talking about scanning business cards. Nokia calls theirs contacts business cards..what I am saying is that apparently Samsung does not recognize a contact number sent from Nokia address book via the network.
the damn phone should atleast notify me that it has received some jumbled up crap from a Nokia phone via the network..
Ps-apparently sharing Nokia contacts aka business cards, via Bluetooth works but its limited by distance
I am running stock GB 2.3.6 and I can recieve .vcf cards from Iphones, and other andriod devices, but not WP/WM devices...
The "damn" phone as you put it simply does not recognise the "crap" from a Nokia phone and so cannot identify if it is correct or garbage..
Given their is no universal standard formatting of contacts, Being sarcastic about the Note and blaming Samsung for inter device incompatability is quite rediculous, however given you feel so strong, feel free to sell your Note and buy a Nokia phone.

I love my note...I absolutely adore it, but am annoyed that it doesn't show any indication of receiving the business card at all.
Is there an app that can workaround this problem ?
Given that Nokia is such a big player in the mobile phone business is it so hard for Samsung techs to write a few lines of code to recognise a bcard ?
I have a lot of clients who uses Nokia phones and I can't ask all of them to get new phones now can I ?
Now if someone's sending a contact info I have to specifically ask them not to send as business card and that irritates the hell out of me cuz then I have waste my time explaining about compatibility issues.
I guess I have to live with it for now.... in a few years there won't be any symbian devices left and we'll all be one big Android family with no comparability issues.
Oh and mystic38 , save that energy to tear into an I phone fanboi will ye ?
Cheers

Making People think Note is secure!

The company where i work does not let me sync my note to the office outlook server quoting security issues. When i asked them y, this was their reply "As for Galaxy Note, unfortunately that device does not have all the basic security requirements we would want. The most important of them is that the device does not allow a remote wipe on the device or on the SD card.
Therefore, we are unable to let it connect to our infrastructure.
. I know we have remote admin in all Samsung phones and can use it from Samsung Dive site. Is this feature different from the ones available in Iphones (my office allows iphones and BB to sync )

Tell your IT guys to get the Good application supported from the market. The ratings of it are bad in market but it works anyways. My company uses it for Android devices which are stock (non rooted). Good app allows the office data to be remote wiped and can even wipe the whole device in case it is lost.
Hope this helps!
I think Samsung Dive provides everything you could want. Alternatively install an antivirus on it - such as Lookout. The premium version will also provide full wipe and disable features.
Do your IT staff know much about Android phones?
This being an mnc they compare the phones to the us version and deny support saying that it sites not meet the required security features. This is so irritating, they won't even let us sync the mail.

+1 to all the above...
If they're looking for some noted security, Norton mobile (although not the highest signature detection) has full remote wiping services.

We also use the Good for enterprise application here on Android and iOS devices (around 300 of them). It works pretty well.
Android will also sync to an Exchange server via Activesync which should be an encrypted connection, and data can be remote-wiped either by an admin or by the user via OWA. They can also enforce a lock key via a certificate installation.
They are either lazy, incompetent or both. Although, Blackberries _are_ more secure than either an Android or iOS device as the Exchange support is ingrained in the OS rather than as a separate layer.
Get Touchdown from the Market. It respects the Exchange security policies in app, which is really all the Exchange admins need worry about. Upside is that if a wipe command is sent, only Touchdown gets nuked, not your whole phone.
Why the Exchange admins should care about the whole phone is beyond me. Worry about a bad guy running around with corporate data on the device.
None of them think. When i send them the details on how android is also safe they simply forward it to another person. So frustrating.
where do u work if u dont mind telling me. Because im working as Blackberry Support for few company.

[Q] Tracking a lost phone - When thief is not braindead

I checked out various apps which can locate lost phone(after stolen).
All work on the premise of installing app remotely from google play, and then sending SMS to your phone etc.,
However, there are a few caveats(with all such apps, and others too). they work for brain dead thieves.
Professional thiefs will throw away your sim card, and then put in a new sim(prepaid sims freely available).
For security, the owner of phone will obviously change the gmail password, right?
So if thief factory resets and wipes data, and then logs on with a different google play account, can you still track it?
Is there any app which allows to do the same?
Casual thieves can be caught, but what if somebody does a full wipe?
I think google tracks phones using device ID. Is it possible to track phone through google, even if android account(google account) being used on the phone is different?
Need help please.
Prevention is better than the cure.
If the phone has been stolen without any tracking software installed, then the chances of recovering it are a lot smaller than if tracking software was installed before it was stolen.
The best thing you can do is call your carrier and ask them to block the IMEI, if they care about you they may also track it down... Or at least do some kind of deal to get you a new phone.
The best tracking app in my opinion is Avast! Its free too !
There is an anti theft feature, which requires root, But it will install as a system app so a factory reset wont remove it. You can do a whole range of things via the webpage, such as activating mobile data, Turning GPS on so you can track it, You can also make the phone scream and shout 'warning this device has been lost or stolen'
This is a useful feature as only you can disable it, You can also enter a message which will be displayed on screen for the theif to see!
You can remotely lock and wipe the device, so the theif cannot change gmail account.
Its does a whole lot more too!

Will it work in the following scenario
1. thief Steals phone
2. Puts phone in custom recovery
3. Flashes a new ROM
4. Puts in a new SIM
5. Uses a different google account.
Google has IMEI number of devices used. So can google let me know which user has the phone after its been stolen, if I give them a copy of the police report or something.
Actually Samsung have a free tracking and after-theft service.
You can set it up on the phone and on the samsung website.
It works even if they use the phone on the moon after having it
flushed through a toilet....So why bother in using third party apps and services ??

Google are a massive company, I doubt they will help 1 individual person, but its sure worth a try
as for the scenario, If the theif flashes a new ROM, it will overwrite /system so any previous system apps will be removed.
But, bear in mind, not everyone is an android freak like us most people wont know what recovery is, or how to flash a ROM, so this should give you enough time to track it down via the website.
For the freaks that do know what they're doing, Well I guess thats unfortunate, No security can withstand the knowledge we have, You will just have to hope they have a nice heart and will return it.

Accessing Notes on PC

Hi Community,
does anyone have a idea how to access my notes taken with the notes app on my PC? I have setup syncing with my Samsung account but cannot find a web application. The Win10 notes app in the MS store is not compatible with my Dell. Ideas?
Thanks much
You can in a limited way, by sharing them as PDF.
I installed s-note and enabled sharing with evernote. That way I can use my webbased or pc based evernote app to access my apps on all my computers. I went back and forth with other apps and found this to be the easiest way. I also have a surface book with which I take notes and tried onenote for a while, but came back to evernote.
Google Keep would probably be the easiest solution. DL notebuddy and set it to auto-launch keep instead of stock app. I've been very satisfied with this setup.

I find onenote to be very good for syncing between different devices (i have a laptop, an android tablet and the note 8, not to mention guest login to various other devices), it seamlessly syncs so no need to be messing around with exporting and importing data, it's free and the PC version can OCR your scribbles too. Its free (even the desktop version which is miles better than the metro version), only downside is you need a live account.

I use OneNote for now but really like the Samsung Note app in terms of features. I often run I to situations where I accidentally touch the screen with my palm and OneNote is very sensitive to that. I end up in looking where I was noting things down. It's a distraction since I take a lot of notes during meetings. Samsung notes also let's me easily rearrange parts of my notes. I always keep action items on top so I see what still needs to be done in the notes overview screen. They expand while I add items and my notes move down along with that. It's the little things I guess.

I always find the palm rejection quite good, but you are right the composition and inking ability on the android version is frustrating, i just wished they would bring the android version closer in line with the desktop version (which does want your asking plus more), ultimately i end up cleaning up my notes on the PC version.
My workaround for the time being to use SideSync and access my Samsung notes via PC and a USB cable. A little cumbersome in setup but I can write directly into Samsung Notes. I just wish there would be clipboard sharing between my PC and the SideSync app.

HI, I am a fan of google keep, however, it has become so unstable that it crashes on all my devices in the middle of my work, only on my tablet works better, it too crashes but less frequently. I have tried all forums, could not find the answer except for rolling back, then I have stop autoupdate for all apps :crying:
Hi anyone still looking to do this
I've just found that Samsung Notes in the Windows Store works now
Finally I'm a happy man this was driving me nuts, no idea why it took them so long to sort it
Samsung Notes on Win 10

Hi Community,
does anyone have a idea how to access my notes taken with the notes app on my PC? I have setup syncing with my Samsung account but cannot find a web application. The Win10 notes app in the MS store is not compatible with my Dell. Ideas?
Thanks much

I have the same problem. It says Samsung notes for Win 10 and available on PC (among others). My build is much later than the minimum required - I have green ticks against all the requirements. Then it says "Not compatible with my device"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope someone who built the thing sees this and puts it right!

I tired a few days ago and cannot install in it on my surfacebook or surface pro 3 and even the latest surface pro
I think it might just be meant for samsung laptops ???
Edit : I just tried on my old acer and voila it installs... Holy sh*t
Edit: Oops got it wrong.. It was S note and not samsung notes... Samsung notes need Arm architecture... Most of the pc's are intel based.
Samsung Notes does not need ARM, as it works perfectly on my Notebook 9 Pro, which has Intel processor...

I was looking at the requirement for the app in Microsoft store and for Samsung Notes it says ARM only...
S Note on the other hand needs x86 or x64
Are sure it is Samsung note and not s note?
Edit : it may be that it is a Samsung laptop... So I guess they can bypass the requirement
