Description
This is a small mod for the stock ICS keyboard that re-orders the smileys into the same places they were on the Gingerbread keyboard, with the option of replacing the ":-!" character with a "<3" one instead. May be useful to people who have been using Gingerbread or CM7 for a while and instinctively "know" where to slide their finger to for smileys, and are getting frustrated by the new layout. Or are just a bit OCD .
Requirements
Should work on any ICS ROM, not for Gingerbread. Flash with ClockworkMod. Usual rules for my stuff, please don't mirror.

Hopefully some people will find this useful.
Is there a way to completely remove the emoticon key from the keyboard? I never use it and am constantly accidentally hitting it.
It was certainly a big thing on Gingerbread but I would think if there isn't something available at the moment, there will be soon. However, you might want to try this app as it is essentially the same as the stock keyboard but with more customisation options. Hope this helps
I flashed the heart version...but there's no heart!..

What is there instead of a heart? Try flashing the other one; I may have got the links mixed up.
install aborded for my rom in my sig...
I pulled the keyboard apk straight from CM9...also it was from Nexus S so maybe that's why you're having problems.
I think u may have gotten the zips messed up..both the files give me :-!

Hmm, no I've just double checked and the heart download does indeed contain the heart. What ROM are you using?
Um.... When I select the heart it uses the kissy face thing instead... Well sometimes. I just tried it now, but it seems to want to work now lol. Other times it has used the kissy face thing though. I guess there is no point of telling you this without logs though

I'm using bigxie's ics...I got the kissy face but no heart...lol...
I flashed it multiple times...and got the same results

I flashed the file and what I got is a Vanilla ICS keyboard with a few additional options under the Advanced Settings, but lacking the promised Smiley button, picture related.
Verdict: Crying
I have been trying to figure out for awhile how to modify the ICS keyboard to remove the dashes (nose) from the smileys.
When I decompress the LatinIME.apk, I can't find anywhere in the /res folder where it defines these strings in any xml files. I did find in resources.arsc, the smiley strings, but I think resources.arsc is compiled, so when I edited it, nothing really happened.
Would it be possible to remove the dashes from the smileys? How were you able to edit the smileys? Any insight or direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

This post is primarily to get feedback from people on a theme I am working on for Beautiful Widgets. The weather theme is pretty much ready to go, and I am working on the clock right now (and will post it soon once I am happy with how it looks).
These are meant to be used on either a dark wallpaper, or with a dark (alpha faded) widget background.
Please let me know what you think! Criticism is welcome but please try and suggest how you would fix any issues you might have so I can best sort it!

I like, great job. Only problem us how to install if not in the download list?
I tried unpacking and placing in respective folders on sdcard, but they don't show as an option to select/apply in BW.

If you put all of the clock files in:
(SDCard) /data/beautifulwidgets/skins/SwirlClock
And the Weather files in:
(SDCard) /data/beautifulwidgets/wskins/SwirlWeather
This is my fault because I renamed the ZIP files to add the version number to the end of them. I will fix this soon
Zeb
Edit: Removed the version number from the end of the ZIP files, if you just extract them into a folder the same name as the ZIP itself (SwirlWeather or SwirlClock) then place the files in your skins or wskins folder then this will work correctly.
thanks Zebwen
really nice

Awesome, will do that, thanks so much!
Edit: Didn't work, renamed and does not show when selecting skins for clock/weather. Am I missing something, have it renamed and in same path you mentioned?
Edit2: NM got it working, had to rename the screenshot and text file to match the folder names, look and works wonderfully, awesome job !!!!
greats, very beatifull! Sory for my bad english
Really glad people like these! I'm currently on holiday, so no Photoshop. But once I get back I'm planning to put up a black version, as well as a matching LauncherPro dock (and possibly some DTV icons). Any changes people suggest I will try and fix then too!

Intro
Okay so I finally figured out how to make the switch from the stock Sense UI, to now Espresso UI As you can see below this post that is my new setup in my signature. So what I did to get the Espresso UI on LiquidSense was I took the framework-res.apk, com.htc.resources.apk, and Rosie.apk from the Fresh 2.4.0 and made a flashable zip out of them and flashed it over my current UI. It worked Now that you know what I am working with (Fresh 2.4.0 UI files) on to the things I have questions and need help with.
Things I need help with regarding the Fresh 2.4.0 Espresso UI:
Problem #1 (SOLVED! THANKS FOR THE PM BUDDY )
So I after I made the switch I realized that I can't use the super circle battery mod for LiquidSense (the one he provides a link to in his first post) because the mod is in the Sense UI's framework-res.apk. But in order for me to have the Espresso UI I need to use Fresh 2.4.0's framework-res.apk. So I'm trying to figure out how can I apply the super circle battery mod to the Fresh 2.4.0 framework-res.apk so that I can still have the Espresso UI, just it includes the super circle battery mod as well.
Problem #2
GODZSON said:
(3-28-10) Rosie no longer includes buttons; instead they're located under Framework in com.htc.resources.apk. So editing Rosie requires you to update both these APKs. Therefore they're both in the ZIP, which makes for a big file.
Kifno: I just thought this bit of information might be useful to anyone who is trying to help me with my problems and questions.

So I was using the Fade Rosis and I remember when I click on an app to launch it, there was this like white glow/faded glow when I pressed the app's icon to launch it. Where as on Fresh 2.4.0 Espress UI, when I go to press and launch an app I get like this green box around it. How could I edit the three files (the one's I mentioned I used to get espresso from fresh) so that I can get that white faded glow when I press to launch an app?
Questions I have regarding the Fresh 2.4.0 Espresso UI
Question #1 (SOLVED! THANKS FOR THE PM BUDDY #2 THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP EVERYONE!)
My Current Lockscreen
The Espresso Lockscreen I want
This is the link to post of the espresso lockscreen I want is located.
Link #1
My question is since the lockscreen from zippy-man's espresso port is located in in the rosie.apk, and com.htc.resources.apk, and my espresso UI uses the rosie.apk, and com.htc.resources.apk to enable me to have the espresso UI, how could I just get the lockscreen from his port? Also I tried just flashing his port with the framework-res.apk from fresh 2.4.0 and that DOES NOT work. This is my biggest

Quick edit I did for use on my Spica, the app tray button now appears in the correct location.
Also did a file size reduction by removing non english languages (sorry!).

Does anyone engaged in the development Samsung GT-i7500 GALAXY.
Phone is OK performance, I do not know why no one interested in the development of ROM. The current ROM that I use is 2.2.1? Is not it just the phone challenge for programmers?
Please let me some answers!

Notables:
App drawer has 4 rows
Modded dock items to replicate stock SE items
Tried to mod default desktop items and widgets to replicate stock SE items, however most just don't have equivalent aosp items, so just added a few stock instead
Modded 1st app drawer pane to show stock android items when using default custom sorting
Note however, in lieu of standard sms and map apps, I prioritized chompsms and brut maps.
Some widgets will not look right (like in my previous tw3 laucher mod), cant be helped, dont complain about that.
Uninstall any previous version before installing this to minimize issues.
Enjoy! Dont expect any more updates!

So I have been working on this one for a lil bit and decided to share my progress. I have used the Open Zio theme by Spz0 to help me along, I have made a lot of graphical changes and left everything else as it was, b/c lets be honest if it aint broke dont fix it. lol I will continue to work on this and try to do more with it, hopefully I will have a 2.0 release within the next month or so that will include a lot of cool surprises. Here are some screen shots and the boot animation. I have also included some wallpaper replacements in the update.zip folder. If you want to use them just push them to /data/Flex and overwrite the wallpaper and thumbnail folders. (make sure to back up the stock ones)

I had this happen as well and I dont know why. I took the wallpaper and thumbnail folders out of data/FLEX in the Theme zip and all went fine after words. I am looking into it. I just hate having to restore back to stock 2.2 and reloading everything. I will report back in a few days.
looks nice but didnt have the openzio numerical battery readout on top bar. any chance of getting that back?

So, is this a theme for the OpenZIO rom only, or can I use it on the stock rom as well?
I ask this because after installing it, my phone crashed. Everything and their mothers force closed. I tried deleting the wallpaper and thumbnail folders, but that did not help me at all.
Oh yes, if it matters, it's a Cricket, with the stock 2.2 OS (rooted).
(Also, I hate red, but I loved the intro screen, so I went through and changed it to blue instead, which, due to the Gimp's indexing, actually made the files ~4.2KB smaller, each - but since the theme crashes my phone, I haven't actually tried installing the blue version yet.)
Any theme can definitely NOT be applied to my OpenZio ROM, or a stock rom.
If the framework is pulled from a stock ROM, it will only work on a stock ROM. If it has been pulled from my OpenZio ROM, it'll only work on my ROM.
This may be something you wish to clarify in your initial post fate43.
List it as a theme for Stock ROMs or for OpenZio ROM.
need help
how do i apply this theme to my zio
can someone help me install this theme?
yeah that would be an excellent amount of help. is this a rom or a theme? if its a rom do we just install it like the openZio rom? or is there a special way of making it work?
You would flash this just the same as any other rom

I know that the default ICS WiFi icon has arrows (centered inside the main icon), but it seems on at least one ROM - vibranturk's Doc's Master v8 and perhaps earlier revisions - there was some modification made (I don't know if it's a simple configuration edit or what) that produced the arrows on the lower left side of the main icon which makes it far more readable to see when data is flowing on the up(load) or down(load) side of things. Looks like this on Doc's Master v8:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now, I'm still using Doc's ROM but I decided to check out the latest CM9 Nightly (20120407) and it obviously has the pure stock ICS WiFi icon.
My question is simple, really:
How can I figure out how to get the same "look and feel" of the WiFi icon in the Doc's ROM over to the CM9 one, if at all possible. I don't know if it's some custom compile option or not because vibranturk did release a v9 beta ROM but it was only up for a few hours - he's since decided to take a break from his development work on those ROMs and pulled the downloads (but I still have them, of course).
I'm not a ROM "wizard" or anything so I don't quite get what's responsible for the WiFi icon meaning is it a library file, an icon file, etc. If this was Windows Mobile I'd know exactly how to handle it, but it's Android.
Just trying to get that arrows-on-the-side easier-to-read WiFi icon as shown in the pic above instead of the stock WiFi icon where the arrows overlay the primary icon itself.
Could be a simple thing but I spent 30+ minutes searching here and at other locations and I just get tons of no useful info at all. Anything anyone can offer as advice or a suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
I don't think it would be as simple as swapping out a file in the ROM since Doc's v8 is a 4.0.3 based one and the CM9 nightly is 4.0.4 - trying to do this without borking the Captivate, obviously.
Thanks...
SystemUI.apk open with winrar,
navigate to res/drawable-xhdpi and edit the png images 'stat_sys_wifi_in' 'stat_sys_wifi_inout' and 'stat_sys_wifi_out'.
edit images then drop back in winrar to same location, it will ask settings, just overwrite/update files with "storage" compression.
you will need a image editor capbable of editing transparency. there are some web apps like http://pixlr.com/editor/ . move the arrows left and down within the blank area.
there are better more complete guides out there.
they are not .9.png images so no need to decompile /ect. follow simple image themeing instructions.
Awesome, then I'll get started on it here in a bit and see what comes from it. Thanks for the response.
awe screw it here is the images i just modded, as i wanted to try.
you figure out what to do with them. LOL
and just as i went to post this for you i figured .. " coulda just taken them from the rom that already has em'"... duh me. uhg!
have fun!
er now i look at that screenshot again it looks like the wifi bars are higher, i think i am going to have image clipping (touching/overlapping) if i push this right now.
just winrar open the systemUI from the working rom, find the stat_sys_wifiANYTHING.pngs in the hdpi folder and put them in your rom.
I got it, thanks.
I simply extracted the 3 PNG files from Doc's Master v8 and dropped them into the full CM9 ROM archive in the appropriate folder and installed it, simple. The trick was finding out which files needed to be replaced, and you answered that one with your first post. Works great, as expected.
