[Q] suppress swype suggestions? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've turned off swype's setting for word suggestions, but the suggestions still open up as soon as I swype something. I've tried clearing my swype user data, but it still happens. The suggestions are surprisingly annoying in a number of contexts due to their size and placement on the screen. This setting seems like a no-brainer, but am I missing something here? Are other people able to suppress swype's word suggestions?

Can someone test whether or not they can suppress swype suggestions on their Note?

Hi,
I was annoyed by the suggestions, too. But in contrast to you
everything worked fine. No suggestions anymore, after turning them of in the settings.

So, to verify that I'm not a total doofus:
I go to
Settings>Language and keyboard>Swype>Preferences>Word suggestion
and verify that "Word suggestion" is unchecked. Is there something else to fiddle with here? I've even checked my other, unused input methods to make sure that their settings also uncheck word suggestion. But word suggestions continue to pop up for me, for example in DocsToGo and Jota Text Editor. wtf?

You are right, I cannot make the suggested words go away regardless of the Word Suggestions settings. I have gone as far as wiping Swype data from Applications and rebooting the phone. You still get a list of words. On my old Streak the list would only come up if you then reselected the whole word using the Swype key.

[Q] How to reset application picker when you chose to remember selection

I may have been dreaming but at one point when I tried to edit a contact from the list, I had a choice of which application to use. I set this for Touchdown but after uninstalling touchdown and reinstalling, I no longer have the pop-up to set the default application and it is no longer using touchdown.
Does anyone know how to reset this so I can be given the choice again? I had chosen to remember my selection but just want to reset it to forget the selection made. In general, how does one reset these to forget your default selections?
Well I found a program called ResetDefault in market which did what I was looking for in case someone else needs this. But when I try to edit a contact in the list to use Touchdown, it force closes. So I guess I have another issue to figure out.

FlexT9 Keyboard Replacement

Ever since I got my G Tablet, I have been scouring looking for the best overall keyboard. I use Swype on my phone, but had trouble getting it to work properly on my tablet. For a while, I found that SlideIt worked fine for me. Then, I tried Gingerbread Keyboard, Thumb keyboard, NI Keyboard (Notion Ink), and finally seemed to setting in on SwiftKey.
SK has become my daily keyboard of choice, but today I stumbled upon one I haven't seen mentioned on the board yet. It's called FlexT9 and it's a bit of a hybrid keyboard. You can type normal (tap and tap), you can slide type (like Swype), it has Speech to Text, AND it has handwriting recognition. Each option can be changed on the fly very quickly.
I found the swype features to be excellent overall, and I really like the predictive text not being so intrusive. The Speech to Text may be the most impressive part of the whole package. It does whole sentences very well. Fixing errors is very easy as well, as you just double tap a word you want to delete or replace and it will select the entire word and display similar words as well. The handwriting recognition was what I was actually hunting for when I found the app. It's decent, but not fast enough for what I was looking for.
The app costs $5, but can be found free in various places. I plopped down my $5 for this one, making it one of the few I've actually paid for (paid for Swift Key when it was on sale, hoping I don't have to re-buy when Honeycomb is released).
In any case, thought I'd recommend this one.
Here's the AndroidTapp.com review of the app:
http://www.androidtapp.com/flext9-speak-trace-write-tap/
I will add that this worked on both my phone (HTC Hero) and my tablet. I loved that the tablet predictive text box did not block the text input area in most apps like some keyboards do.
This is a great keyboard combination. What I like most about it is the highly accurate voice to text transcription feature.
Nothing on the Ipad2 works this way including Dragon search/dictate.

I purchased this, it's exactly what I've been looking for. However, I can't get it to work. When I get the message about security, I select OK, but the check next to FlexT9 Text Input, remains unchecked. Any suggestions?
btw...I'm running a stock gtab.

I don't believe the stock settings allow you to enable other keyboards. They show up, but don't allow you to check the boxes. Other ROMs support this (like Vegan), but not the ones based on the stock ROM (like TNT).
If you are rooted, you can use Root Explorer and do a manual work-around.
1. Install the keyboard app
2. Open ROOT EXPLORER app and navigate to DATA/APP folder.
3. Copy the APK of your keyboard device you want to add
4. Go back to the main directory, then navigate to the SYSTEM/APP folder.
5. Click the button on the top right that says MOUNT R/W (Mount to Read/Write)
6. Paste APK file into this directory
7. Click MOUNT TO R/O to return to read only mode.
8. Repeat if you have multiple keyboards
9. Once you are done adding keyboards, reboot your device. Those keyboards should now be enabled in your SETTINGS.
This is the procedure for TNT and Stock based ROMs. Hopefully this works for you as well.
You may also want to do some searching for other potential work-arounds for adding keyboards.
Looks like I might have just found the first thing that my gtab can't do, that I want it to do, "out of the box".
I've avoided rooting it again, but maybe I'll have to re-think that. I rooted it the first day that I got it, but just didn't like my tablet looking like a phone on steroids. I might I have to learn to get over that.
Thank you for the information.
You don't necessarily have to change your ROM and the way the tablet looks to be rooted. Rooting itself doesn't change anything about the device besides giving you root access to the device.
Hi there what do you mean by saying rooted?
thanks

[Q] Correct settings for phone information under *#*#4636#*#*?

I have been playing around with a number of different services on my phone, and I might have been burnt. There is a menu you get by typing *#*#4636#*#* on your keypad which can give you phone information. At the bottomon the "phone information" screen there are a number of buttons and settings you can play with. I think I have inadvertently touched some of the settings with a stray finger, and I was hoping someone perhaps could tell me what the correct settings are. I am especially interested in "power on gmm attach" and "mpdp". With the first one deselected it appears that my mobile data no longer works, but I am not sure if this is the real issue.
I appreciate your help.

Power on gmm attach should be checked. MPDP should be set to "MDPD enabled (primary + secondary). These are at least my settings.
Hope that helped.

Auto correct not working on Samsung Galaxy Note 9 (sm-n960u)

I would like to start off by saying thank you to all of you who work hard and make this forum the great place that it is! You all are wonderful!
Now, to the point. Recently since updating my phone to the newest updates, auto-correct no longer works on ANY keyboard I try. I've used GBoard, Swiftkey, and Samsung's default keyboard and none of them work.
List of debugging steps I've taken:
Restarting phone
Turning phone off and leaving it for 10+ seconds
Clearing phone cache in boot menu
Uninstall both Gboard and Swiftkey and reset their data
Toggle on and off the auto-correct settings on all keyboards and do restarts in between
Make sure the default keyboard was the keyboard I was trying to use
Start phone in safe mode to make sure none of my apps had disabled the feature some how
Update the keyboard language to a newer version
Update Samsung keyboard to newest version
Enable all disabled bloatware I had disabled
Clear Samsung keyboard Cache and Data
Reset Samsung keyboard settings to defaults
I've tried everything in the list and then some. And every single time, autocorrect won't work. I'll see it make the proper suggestion for a word, but when I go to put a space, it won't correct the word and just leaves the typo. For instance, I type "testibg" instead of "testing" The suggestions guess perfectly what I meant, but it never replaces it.
This drives me nuts! If anyone can help, I would much appreciate it! I'm legally blind, so typing is difficult for me and I often make mistakes and would like to have this feature back!
I've included a logcat log while I was trying to use the autocorrect feature. Maybe this can show why?

Question Some lingering issues...

I've been joyfully using my Mi 11 for a few months now, but some issues remain. Please help, if you can!
In order of importance:
1) Where's my DND? I want an options that blocks ALL calls and notifications, including the icons that might show on the top or on the always-on. A complete disconnect, but without going to airplane mode so I can actually use the phone when I need it. Just like it used to work on each and every one of my previous Galaxy S phones.
I can't find any app that does this right.
2) I get ALL notifications, but often -
a) If a new one comes from an app, let's say WhatsApp, and I haven't read the one before, it'll show me that one instead of the new one
b) Often, there's no preview in the relevant screens, just "notification from app".
3) Writing in languages that aren't English leaves me with a squiggly red line underneath the text indication a spelling error. How do I tell the phone to stop doing that?.. or alternatively, teach it other languages?
Running MIUI 12 EU ROM.
Thanks!
For 1 is do not disturb not doing this? You have some settings to customize. Just go into settings and type do not disturb.
For 3 you can define multiple languages in the Google keyboard and change the typing language with a key (Gboard configuration)
For 2 I have no idea
The settings don't show anything relevant. It only silences notifications, but still shows them on the top line thingy.
The language is defined... and I can type in it. It just marks everything as an error.
