I m running on stock 2.3.4 rom.. m rooted now.. m facing certain problems :
1. Dialer lags 2 to 3 seconds when i hit call button.
2. Ringtone sounds as if its a scratched disk.
3. When i slide for accepting a call the timer takes 2-3 secs to start.
4. Sometimes the phone goes dumb.. gives no sounds at all ; neither during call, music player ( stock, 3rd party ) , touch sounds, unlock sound. Nothing works.
5. Camera goes black n asks 2 " Turn on Hardware Mode ".
Only restarting the phone seems to help for a short span of time.
Now dt i m rooted, i want to upgrade to ICS Spice 2.3.4
i hv downloaded this n the base rom AndroIDv3.3 RC2. Somebody please guide me step by step ( i don't wanna end up owning a 4 inch brick )... ur help wud b greatly appreciated.
please help me out pals....
New?
Hey Buddy...
I am assuming you are new to this device...Well read the XDA section for this device. There's lots of grt information and ROMS to try..
I am assuming you are on Spice Stock Gingerbread. First things first theres in no stable ICS Rom for this device. edowar has done a amazing job of porting the first Pre Alpha Cm9 build...but that's not completely functional...
details: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1434219
As for what ROM you should try....Try Edowar CM7, TJ's MIUI, or MMACCs Maclite..
Or if you want to stick with Stock Wellcom A99 stock is the most stable...the New Stocl from Sharp has also got grt reviews...maybe you can try that...
You will find all threads and info in the device dev section.
Though be careful, as u rightly said you dont want a 4 inch brick....read carefully, ask questions....

1. install. SUT LR 1.8.2 in your PC
2. rc1 ( .nb0) should be somewhere in your PC
3. put the phone on download mode ( volume up + power on) and connect it to PC via usb
4. run sut LR, see the notification ' a phone is connected, browse and select the rom (.nb0) file and click next and wait until flashing is completed. once completed click finish.
5. disconnect the phone and remove battery and then replace it back and switch on the phone.
6. for cwm recovery again go to download mode and replace the stock recovery with cwm recovery.
7. put rc2 in your SD card, go to recovery mode and flash rc2 (.zip)

if it is in .zip format then dont unzip it... just put it in the sd card and flash it via cwm...........steps 1. install zip from sd card 2. select zip from sd card 3. install zip.... thats all .. then install rc2 (same procedure)
do i need to rename the .zip file to anything ???? wht if its in .7z format ??? ( i got it in .7z format on the forum u suggested )
did u flash rc1 using sut LR? if yes, you should have selected 'erase all user data ' which I forgot to mention.. (because of all the problems you have mentioned in your post) . if you have not selected the option, you should reflash the rom again selecting the 'erase all user data) ...
tellin me now... :-o kkkk ... :-| nevr mind... i ll do dt agn if dt won't cause any prblm.. on rc2 by Archanian nw by the way.... \m/
sorry i was away and was always late in replying.. if you dont face any problem then ok you need not to do that.... actually RC2 was by TJ Style( stable one)...
actually every time when you flash new rom it is always better to erase user data ... and if you flash via cwm wipe user data , cache and dalvik
i did flash rc1 again with SUT LR by erasing all user data, then i used CWM to flash rc2 but didn't wipe data, cache n dalvik.. will dt b a prblm in future ????
is there any specific order of wiping data, cache n dalvik while flashing another rom ?
it is OK because rc2 is the upgrade of rc1. .. I really don't know if there is any specific order to be followed while wiping data via cwm. I use to wipe user data first then cache and dalvik last.
rc2 is working gud 4 me.... i did hv problems transfering mp3 files with a Nokia Supernova ( the supper buggy phone ) though... else all is well...

Im sure Spice will never ever release a ICS rom. That they had released a GB rom too was a surprise. The only way is if TJ or Edowar can make a stable rom.

I tot I already tell solution for your problem b4..
U simply install gingerCruz or whatever rom (which one can install via Xrecovery)
(I sure this rom have dual recovery(CWM & Xrecovery) pre install)
now when u sucess installing GC,
u can boot into CWM by pressing volume down button and/or tap screen
and now the time u can install gingerDX.zip
and make sure fullwipe after and b4 installing GDX.zip
let forget about LinuxDX or whatever kernel first...
(because u failed to fix simple matter (installing GDX))
so if u wanna flashing kernel, it most dificult than installing rom
so my advice is please pass this matter first
REMEMBER...flasing kernel U have to unlock bootloader
(your phone can brick if U done any wrong)
ohoh i think i get you there ...u use a rom that can be installed via xrecovery and the rom naturally has CMW preinstalled yes ? and when i done installing( do i need to full wipe for this? ) the rom that can be installed via xrecovery press the close button long then the CWM will come up ( i tried b4 via cruzt ) then i enter CWM i use it like xrecovery , from there i install GDX and before installing GDX i have to full wipe my phone ...am i right??will full wipe clear my app? and what's GC?
is rom = mod?
and yeah i think imma skip kernel 1st too risky!
THANKS KLIP!

Thanks for quick answer but i face a weird problem while installing SUTLR 1.8, it gives errors for some of its files that they failed to register. I am using windows 7 machine 32 bit. Previously i had bricked my phone by just clicking ignore on the error messages given while installing SUT 1.8. However ver 1.7 get installed smoothly on my PC.
Well i downloaded SUT LR from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695725 and it installed perfectly. Putting this link here for others who are having trouble installing it.

I updated it by putting my phone in download mode then using SUT to flash it selecting the option "Erase user Data" in the drop down.
I didn't go into CWM as SUT erases all data itself..
I also flashed RC1 rom and it flashed fine..maybe because it uses the 2.6.32 kernel....i dunno what i have to do to flash it with RC3 :crying:
You don't need to boot into rc3. Even if you are stuck at bootloop just put any ics rom in sdcard and flash it via recovery wiping data/cache/dalvik cache. If you are still stuck at bootloop then i suggest that you find a windows xp machine carry out flashing after installing drivers no need to select anything in sut.
It clearly says:
Please Flashing with SUT latest, version 1.8.2 or above.
... but you are using 1.7..

Though I suggest you do boot into what you recently flashed:
1. To make sure you flash worked (as you have done)
2. To so you can backtrack what or if your ICS complimentary flash does not work. Just remember to clear Data, Dalvik and Cache before 2: nd flash.

I have random reboots since i updated to 4.2 tried many roms and dont know why this happens
Mostly i use stock cyanogen kernel with 100 to 1200 and ondemand and maybe if theres performance control 50 Mb to keep with task killer
but mostly when hearing music and also turning of screen music sometimes stops or i got a random reboot
and also when doing nothing i become a random reboot once a day.
Somebody knows what to do ?
Have you tried reflashong your rom?

I tried many things like wiping cache, dalvik permissions fix, other roms and also mostly wipe system/data (factory reset) before flashing a rom and so on
Also tried semaphore mostly or cyancore but nothing helps much

I dont want to go back to cm10.1 as i think it will also happen there too. Maybe some other solution would be good.
For info at moment im on carbon rom build 3 from Aways and this happened on 3 or 4 other roms from aways before too
Try another rom.
i said "and this happened on 3 or 4 other roms from aways before too"
So dont say try another rom or should i try all roms ?
Random reboots happen only when you have bad oc, bad flash( wipes not done right ) , or bad rom no other reason i can think of. Something went wrong flashing if its happening since you updated to 4.2.

So should i go back to 2.3.6 first and then upadte to 4.2 ? Also whats darkyrom 10.2 ??? The video only say me how to go back to 2.3.6 with odin or does it say more as i havent seen it full ?
Also is there no other solution ?
You dont have problems formating the SD CARD? Flash this rom 4.2.2 CyanAOSP v2.5.2 "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2075637" with the 3 wipes then when the rom its configured go Settings / Backup & Reset / factory data reset enable Erase SD card and Reset phone then use the rom as default it is a very fast and stable rom without OC u can use bigmem but dont OC and check if its ok...
http://www.darkyrom.com/index.php look here
Darkyrom is just 4.1.2 but i gonna go back to gingerbread an then update to 4.2 with all wiping and so between and i gonna try to partionate the intern sd and my put in sd so i gonna see if that all helps
Now i gone back to 2.3.6 with odion repartionized all and also intern and extern sd card and then installed first cm10 with all wipes and then slim bean with all wipes. now i only had a little problem with sometimes music goes off when on the internet or facebook at same time but was away after a reboot and now im again on 4.2.2 with all working and no random reboots since 4 days

Juz put da stock ROM (usually.tar if using ODIN) on PDA
put Modem (also .tar) on PHONE
and put CSC file (.tar) on CSC
put .pit on PIT \
tick repartition, reset time and Auto reboot.
Put in ur phone into download mode (home+vol down+power)
connect it to pc while Odin still up and wait for Message bar says Added
repartition only for ROM, if u flash kernel (CF root for example) through ODIN, make sure its untick
and juz start da game
(see screenshot)
and really, this thing should juz stop. u guys dont ever bother to explore da thread here
and somehow after flashing ROM and kernel, if u wanna flash cm9 through CWM, ur phone will reboot and reboot and reboot and reboot without fails, juz dont panic and press da button for recovery (home+vol up+power) and it will go to recovery. if somehow u fails to retrieve recovery, it because either u s*ck at selecting time to release da button. (release da button right after u see da white i9000 logo. After that, juz reflash da cm7 zip again.
And for those who wanna straight to CM10.1, after success to flash cm9, do not reboot to ROM, continue to flash CM10.1 zip (make sure u got both zip inside ur internal storage, not in any folder) and it will still give warning it unsuccess or failed, juz flash it again. Until u satisfy that ur chosen ROM already flash inside ur fone. then u reboot ur system.
I juz give u some summary, u need to find da file urself. Its all somewhere inside here.
(and here i spend 3 year reading everything posted here )

Hi,
I was redirected to this part of the forum. A friend of mine rooted my samsung mobile Galaxy S I9000 with a android 2.2 version. I cannot contact him anymore to help me with the update and I am really a newbie in this rooting world. So, I am coming on this forum to have some advice. I read information on rooting your device, in which everything is explained very well, but could not find information on how to update once a device was rooted (probably I did not search in the right place). What I did so far is:
1) Taking backup of my pics (by manually drag and drop the folder on my pc), SMS and call logs (with sms backup + app), syncronized my contacts with gmail so that I can recover them later on and backup the music folder. I installed backup Titanium to back up my apps on my SD card.
But now, I am stuck with some questions (could you guide me where to find the information?):
1) Which most recent version of Android is supported on the device I have? Which version will work best?
2) Is there important information that I forgot to back up? + I have a problem with the backup Titanium app. It could reach my root in the beginning, but then the Superuser app updated the binary and from then on my titanium app got stuck when getting access to the root. Any idea how to solve this? Install an older version of the bin.file? How to do that exactly? thanks! => I could fix this problem by installing an older version of superuser in CW recovery. If others have problems with this issue, I can provide help from now on
3) Is there a guide with step by step procedure on which files I have to download on my pc and which procedure to follow? Or could you advice me some useful links?
thanks!
1) there is android 4.2.2 available for this amazing device
2) you propably forgot to backup efs folder
3)
- 1) follow this guide to get android 2.3.6 to your device: http://www.darkyrom.com/index.php?threads/odin-darkyrom-10-2-resurrection-gt-i9000.4272/
- 2) follow this guide to get android 4.2.2 (cm 10.1) to your device after: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_galaxysmtd
- 3) now you can flash most of the roms you find in i9000 android development forum. i personally use slimrom
copy /efs! backup ur imei n md5 in efs first! copy da whole efs file! or do nandroid backup.
READ N FOLLOW CAREFULLY here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2149455
considering u already done flashing Sammy n CF
prepare for ROM & kernel(optional) hunt! go to dev section and choose which JB u wanted.download it together with cm9.1.0 n copy to root of internal sd.
n make sure to flash cm9.1.0 stable from cyanogenmod website (galaxymtd) first from 2.3.6, first flash will bootloop, go back to recovery with 3 combo button. flash again n dont leave recovery.

My question is: is there an android 4.0 version with full touchwiz?
I mean the whole tweaks as slide the contact to message/call and so on
I only foubd CM 9 based ROMs which are themed to look like touchwiz and had the launcher...but i miss the sms app interface, smilies, slide to call things
Is there a port from the SGS2?

I followed the guide you mentioned here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2149455
in which they install that JVU ROM... then they say at the end that you have to unmount SD card (but that option was gray in my case) and wipe the USB storage and then reboot in recovery and do those 4 wipes, what I did, and then he mentioned that you could install your custom ROM, so I put the version of slimrom 4.2.2 on my sd card and launched it for installation.
However, the procedure started, but after a few seconds already my phone rebooted and now it is stuck at the logo of Semaphore...
What did I wrong? And what should I do?

Should I shut down my phone and try to put it in download mode again to put the JVU rom on it again via odin? is that the best strategy? Or should I do something else? and if that would work, what is then the best procedure to avoid such situations again?
nope, u did rite, but also wrong, ok, read carefully here....
flashing for upgrade is easy if u follow carefully, when in GB, after flashing CF ROOT, flashing to 4.0 (cm9) first (take da zip from cyanogenmod website) but luckily ur on 2.3.6 JVU (if u follow da link i gave), so it will be safe (safe procedure will be GB-ICS-JB), first flash will bootloop, second flash (sometimes) will occur error n third flash will succeed, which means u hav to flash twice or thrice or maybe 4 times! if its bootloop, go to recovery back by 3 button combo (its da matter of when u release da combo button, release it rite after u see da first white bootsplash)
bootloop cause by changing da partition tp ext4, its common
but if u already try to reach recovery n failed most times, u need to flash back firmware n cf root.

Ok, thanks!!!! this worked!!! I justed flashed cm9 and it works. So, if I understand well now, I can just return in recovery mode and install from zip from sd card to cm10 and then for instance to slimrom? Or between 'two' flashes, I need to follow the last part of the procedure in the link you gave me? So:
"Now, what I do now is go into :
Settings > SD Card and Storage > Unmount SD and Wipe that and then at the bottom Wipe Format USB Storage
Enable USB Debugging > Plug in Phone
Window should open up showing your phone Directory..
Copy over your ROM that you want
Shut Down Phone
Reboot into Recovery (Vol UP - Menu - Power)
Wipe the 4 things (probably know these... you should do)
Data / Factory Reset
Cache Partition
Go to Advanced > OK
Dalvik Cache
Battery Stats
Go Back > OK
To move Up or Down > Use the Left Side Volume Rocker Switches with Menu to OK Action
Install your Custom ROM from Zip Card that you want..."
OR: can I just go to recovery mode and do install from zip without doing that procedure with "wipe" etc?
Just to know, as I am just a newbie in these things!!! But I want to thank you once again for the clear explanations and the good help!!!!
juz flash mate , its easy, da important thing is to follow da sequence, thats all, juz flash, wiping cache or resetting juz for changing ROM. not upgrading
juz FLASH it
GB-ICS (twice)(do not leave recovery after second flash)-(any custom JB ROM u choose(twice or thrice))(make sure u already put da zip file in internalsd). dont need any wiping.
but FLASH AT UR OWN RISK,remember that.
n yes, recovery need hardbutton except TWRP recovery.

Thanks!!!! Just one small question. I just flashed CM10 in recovery mode and first flash gave error, second went well. Then while still being in recovery mode I directly flashed slimrom and that went well from the first time. Do you always flash a second time to make sure that things went well or this is ok then?

as i already said, flash more than 2 times when upgrading, juz upgrading process. GB-ICS-JB (CM7-CM9-CM10/10.1) is upgrading process.
changing ROM not necessarily need double flashing, but u can do it if ur not satisfy whether da ROM already flashed or not

Hmmm, is probably because I get this error when starting slimrom: invalid IMEI number...I flashed it a second time, but it gave me the same error...
Which gapps have you flashed? Slimbean needs a special package, you find it under slimroms.net.

I will have a look there for that google play problem.
More problematic is that problem of IMEI. When I flashed from CM 9 to CM10 I did not do that wipe of cache and data as suggested above (the reply came later on), and then I flashed slimrom. That I forgot to wipe between CM9 and CM10, can that be the cause of wrong IMEI now? Is the solution now, to wipe cache and data, to flash again CM 10 and to flash then slimrom again?
Or should I just leave everything like that and do a recovery of my efs folder? If yes, any link for this?

if you want to install JB after iCs you don't have to install Gapps for cm9
just let it boot , after that , turn off your phone and go to recovery and flash any JB rom
here is the link for slim bean thread

Gapps come in a .zip file so just boot into recovery after you flash custom rom then flash Gapps
EDIT: Gapps may be included in custom rom so flash custom rom first and check if you have Gapps, if no Gapps then flash Gapps.
