Clean install (as clean as it can be), high battery drain - HTC Incredible S

Hi there,
I've been using revolutionaryHD 2.1.2 for a while now and last week I realized my battery life was not what it used to be. So I decided do do a full clean reinstall (format+wipe everything + battery calibration) hoping it would solve the problem.
However, the clean install did not solve my problem. I have now installed cyanogenmod nightly, believing it was revolutionaryHD that was causing my problems and ran some test with currentwidget.
Screen on, everything else off = -126ma 4.11v
Everything off = -38mA 4.11v
I've read a post stating that battery drain should be between 1 and 10mA if you enable wifi, I didn't even enable it .
I have NO idea what is causing these high numbers, so I would love it if you could shine some light on the subject.
Best Regards
Yannick Wellens

Hi Yannick,
I think 38 mA is a good value. The battery of the Incredible S should have 1450 mAh. At a current of 38 mA, it should last for about 38 hours.
Greetings, Richie

Best settings ever:
CyanogenMod nightlies 146
Tiamat kernel 1.13
Oc 1400000
Uv all values -75
Turn off gps and wifi unless needed as well as any location services
Do not run app killer or any other background processes

Yeah, I checked with a mate's desire S and he also has there values on a stock rom. I'm wondering though if the facebook app is a battery killer, any comments on that?

Definitely. More so if you have a widget.. In fact any widget that gathers info from the web will keep you from entering deep sleep. Grab cpu spy from the market to see how often your device enters deep sleep.

Can highly recommend the Quattro ics 4.0.3 from the developer section. battery life is damn good on the latest beta7.

Battery life drained?! o.o

So my revolution got the 2.1 blitzkrieg update and the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1394056&highlight=adrenaline+shot . Reinstall SetCPU, your min is off... goofy, your phone can't run at 0, then it wouldn't run. I think min is 244mhz.
The first day I had my extended battery, it drained crazy fast. Then it took hours for it to charge. Yesterday I got 13 hours off of it with very heavy use, and today 14 hours and I was at 28% when I plugged it in to charge. Give it a day after you reinstall setcpu.

Freeze it and download cputuner? Why can't you uninstall setcpu?
menu->applications->downloaded->setcpu->uninstall
or try Gemini its a ram cleaner, and you can uninstall from there. I have never run into an issue where I couldn't remove setcpu. If that is the case then indeed you may have an issue with the setcpu program.
battery life
I seem to loose battery life quite fast I have to charge my phone at least once more during the day just to make it through. what can I do to improve this other than getting the extende battery

I'm getting 10 to 12 hours with very heavy use which is pretty good for me. You can use an app like watchdog (available in Android market) it will tell you what apps are using up resources and allow you to control problem apps. JuiceDefender is highly recommended by some people. I'm not using anything like that at the moment.
My Profile
*Gingervolt 1.3
*Blitzkrieg 2.0 (Overclocked @ 1.9 most of the time)

It could be, if you are saying you can't remove it. I would try to work on that then go from there. Can you force stop it? Clear data? Next I would get titanium backup and freeze it. Once you do that you can use tb to remove it.

I'm running blitz 2.1 as well and I ONLY have the governor set on smoothass and I lose 10% in one hour. I'm considering restoring to pre -blitz. I love the performance even when I did overclock but the battery cost is too much.
Sent from my VS910 4G using XDA App
For the longest time I didn't do gingervolt 1.3 because it caused issues with my phone. Finally when blitz came out,I did it, but I factoried every but of my phone to do it. I suspected I was running two roms at the same time, because there were often times the phone would give me stock options for doing tasks, and ones from the ROM. Also there were certain elements left behind that should have been removed, like bing. Just take blitz off and try again.
Sent from my VS910 4G using xda premium
I've done that before. I originally installed blitz over gingervolt 1.2 and had the same problems. So I restored back to just gv 1.2, upgraded to gv 1.3 and then put blitz on. I still have poor battery life and the occasional vibrate+freeze which results in a reboot.
I can't really give up my overclock lol it runs great but makes me more dependent on my charger. I'm sure it'll get better in future releases of blitz.

Im on gv 1.3 / blitz 2.1 @ 768 / 1900 via set cpu with supercharger + 3g turbo and ics, adrenaline shot and no verify plus some other tweaks from the tweaks list. I haven't had any reboots in a few days (even when charging) and my oem battery lasts all day with lite to moderate use. The extended battery 12+ hours with heavy usage.
The three most helpful changes for my revolution have been using blitz 2.1 and setting minimum to 768 and removing KAK from the supercharger script. After doing those things it runs smoother and I've got better battery life (go figure) I don't know how or why but of course I could be missing something.

As is being discussed over at the bk thread, set CPU might drain battery. Not conclusive, but possible. I'm trying CPU master now to see if there's a difference for me
Sent from my VS910 4G using XDA App
I'm using CPU Master made by Antutu also, and my battery still drains however I'm not supercharged. I really should look into getting supercharged though.
The batter drain almost makes me want to look into getting the extended battery...
Has anyone had problems at all with extended battery?
Does the phone still fit in the hip holster with ext. battery?
Okay so i uninstalled SetCPU and got CPU Tuner. could it be that I never removed blitzkrieg, but instead flashed 1.0 then 2.0 then 2.1?
What can I do to better improve my battery life I have gingervolt but I seem to have terrible battery life I literally charged my phone to 100 went to bed and when I woke up it was at 17 without touching it. What can I do who are my options

Stop sleeping 14 hours a night. My battery lasted between 8 and 14 hours depending inn what I was doing. When I would flash a ROM, my battery was less for a couple days, but back after that. If its been a few days you can go back to stock and try again to dl and flash gingervolt. I got the extended battery when I heard they were 50 percent off. I have been off charger all day and I am at 44 percent.

Phone running hot and draining battery -what could it be?

Since installing a new ROM, last night, my INCS has been running very hot and seems to be caning the battery.
I charged over night, unplugged it at about 7am and it is is dead already. I haven't been using much more than usual, and so it is concerning me slightly.
I was wondering if anyone could help me find out what is causing the issue and ways to resolve it?
Cheers!

Check the task manager to see what processes you have running. You can also check the battery settings and one of the screens will show what has been using the battery.
Have you tried rebooting the phone?
Thanks for the tips.
Nothing out of the ordinary seems to be running in the background, and most of the battery drain is the screen which isn't too much of a surprise. I don't have many apps installed yet.
Would it be worth installing a cpu monitor to check the cpu speeds, in case it is running too high?
On the stock ROM it would last a good 12 hours with moderate usage and a lot of apps installed and running.
You can try setcpu or whatever CPU utility depending on your rom.
You can set offscreen to a lower speed like 600mhz or so. See if that helps you out.

What are the ideal cpu speeds for the INCS?
I dunno what Rom you're using. But I would recommend you to use all the battery until it shuts down. Charge it to 100% then use a battery calibrater

I'm using Virtuous Quattro RC3 (btw, love it!)
I've charged to 100% and I'll leave it on tonight and see what happens.
Right, I don't know what's changed, if anything, but I left the phone on over night to discharge and it is still at 55% and very cool to the touch.
I guess it just sorted itself out!
Cheers for the help though.

im not one to say I have used all 3, ive only used CM7. it was good. actually even MIUI is good but u gotta know how to find your wakelocks with betterbatterystats. that way you can optimize battery life regardless of whatever rom you're on.
I could go 1-2 days on my MIUI currently FR rom, moderate usage, all my syncs are off, i manually refresh for notifications.

What do you mean "but u gotta know how to find your wakelocks with better batterystats" ? I usually dont have anything running in the background...
I have used CM 7, all MIUI, Lewa, and Mokee, and Ice BlacK too
In my view
1. CM7 have better battery life (but as I use to play 3 D games I won't prefer)
2. Second is Galnet MIUI, built by elol, decent battery life with good performance.
3. Third is Mokee, It is the best ROM for gamer and for others too who don't use to play game. It almost serve me for whole day with games, music and all mail, FB, Linkedin sync on for 24 hrs.
For me best choice is "Bumblebee" it's really a stable ROM and give's really great battery life, Best in which i have used.
In term's of Gaming this ROM is really great, it give's games extra smoothness to Game's by increasing FPS with help of it's new GPU derive.
This all make this ROM as my daily use ROM.

google xda betterbatterystats. download the app and follow the thread, those are uber battery sensitive people in the community.
so you manually sync all your apps as well? even calendar? and leave gtalk signed out?
wakelocks are what keeps the phone away from entering deep sleep. from the betterbatterystats app, if u see ur device entering 96% and above Deep Sleep after a night's full charge and allowed to idle, then good job, no matter what rom ur running u should be doing it right.
wakelocks are what cause a battery drain even when your phone is off idle while u sleep. it isnt only about background apps.
Yes,,I was use betterbatterystats,,I have managed all wakelocks and partial too,,it's give me battery life more time
But battery use info from setting doesn't change,,still give me "Android System" for highest % deal,,

post your dump here. and also at the BBS thread where u got the app.
so unless you are getting 96% and above deep sleep, id say you have not completely managed your wakelocks yet. also what are your governor and i/o scheduler settings? OC'ed at? do you have a screen off profile to lower clock speed when screen off?
battery use info may show that, but most important is u charge your phone to full, let it discharge while u sleep and wake up next day, OBTAIN 96% DEEP SLEEP OR HIGHER. figure out what are the wakelocks in BBS. if BBS is managed correctly, even if your android system is using highest %, no big deal, more importantly your battery isn't draining like mad.

I really need a few days to get a good handle on how much the battery usage has changed but there are a few things to keep in mind....
- Cpu speed max was increased by 200Mhz to 1.2Ghz
- ICS uses GPU acceleration which may impact battery life
- These are leaks so not everything is release ready and there may be a few bugs
- I noticed generally a bit more idle cpu usage so this will lower battery life
- Radios were updated (both 3/4g) so this may impact battery life
- Big kernel update so there may be issues in the new kernel
All in all i'd say check your battery usage and see if anything stands out, maybe disable any bloatware you don't use. I also noticed there is a display dimming option under system settings, display, brightness....that might help a little?
My phone was heating up a little and the battery life seemed a little crappy on 2233. I switched the governor from hotplug to on demand with setcpu. Seems to have helped battery life and the phone is running much cooler.

Just tried the display dimming option and data disconnected. May have been a coincidence, but I went back and turned it off and data came back.
Hold down the home key and look at how many apps are running in the background. Swype to close them. They are also eating battery. You can also use the built-in smart actions app to shut off data and other power users when phone isn't in use.

My battery life is MUCH worse from stock 905 and the battery stats are correct. My Andorid OS is using more battery than display which is a first.

I get the same amount of battery life as before. I tested by doing my normal routine at work. Checked the time, news, watched an episode on Netflix on lunch and checked Twitter a few times. Ended up showing 70% at the end of my day's shift. Though I should note my CPU is still 1GHz.
I set up by going back to 902, OTA to 905, than SR to 2233, in case anybody is wondering.
Why would you be surprised that the ics uses more battery? It runs at 1.2ghz. Try using smart actions app, its actually pretty neat and can help you save battery by automatically turning off wifi, sync or whatever you want it to do by either time, or a variety of other triggers. I use it to switch off data when i get off work and switch wifi on, and to turn volumes down, brightness down, gps off during the night, and etc, etc.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda app-developers app
I just applied the 229 leak and while I haven't noticed many changes over 2233, I did notice that the overall OS ram usage is down and my idle cpu usage is lower. I am still testing the battery usage with it but it seems to be a bit better as a result.
On 2233 my cpu idle usage was in the 400s with occasional spikes lower/higher. On 229 my cpu idle usage is in the 300s with semi-frequent spikes to the 400s so a pretty noticable improvement.
Hmmm.... that is a pretty good improvement. Is the kernel running at 1.2ghz?

Battery problems

Hi guys,
I haven't noticed it before, but my SGS has very high battery drain when wifi hotspot is on. Without doing anything on the phone, it went from 80% to 15% in less than an hour. Is it normally like that? This was my first time using the hotspot, so I was quite shocked.
I'm on CM 10.1 NIGHTLY with Semaphore 2.9.13 and 114% live OC, but max CPU freq is set to 960 MHz.
