WiFi hotspot from Ubuntu not detected

Hello everyone!
I am running Ubuntu 11.10 and using the "Create Hotspot" option from the network options. Now, when my rom is GB-based (specifically, any flavour of MIUI), the WiFi is not even seen from my phone, unless I do this:
Settings --> Wi-Fi --> Advanced --> Regulatory domain --> 14 Channels.
Then, the WiFi is detected and I can connect to it with no problems.
The thing is, I can't find this option on any ICS-based roms (AOSP, AOKP, CM9).
Additionally, I've tried changing the channel used by Ubuntu for creating the hotspot but that doesn't seem to have any effect on whether it's seen by the phone or not.
Any ideas people?
[Running Miui.US 2.3.30 with Glitch kernel at the moment.]
Bump! Noone who encountered this?
i encountered it, but still haven't got any idea how to solve it..
all guides i found didn't work.
prolly will upgrade to ubuntu 12.04, i heard it fixes this bug (i guess the new 3.2 kernel supports it better)

you don't need a plan:
1. open the tethering app
2. go to settings
3. select change device profile and check generic ICS/JB wlan0
4.enable wifi encryption---set your password
5. check the wifi driver reload. leave driver2 blank
6. then scroll down to mms clamping and check that and check routing fix--that's it it should work now.

[Q] Wifi Tether on Avatar nightly 4.0.12 for Bionic (targa)

Title says it all.
I wiped cache, dalvik, and system before flashing using safestrap 3.62 or 3.65 (whichever is latest, I updated today). Everything went smoothly after I figured out I had to boot the system first, then reboot into recovery, then install gapps (using the one linked from the nightly release post in this forum).
I need tethering, as my phone is my only internet connection. Wifi tethering for root users starts, with errors, says it got permission (twice) but puts out no SSID, in spite of the green icon being lit.
Is there a hidden toggle somewhere in Avatar ROM that I need to know about?
Posting this from my Bionic with 20-month-old Eclipse release, that works PERFECTLY
Thanks in advance!
You don't need a wifi tether app. Just go to settings > wireless & network > more... > tethering & portable hotspot > set up wi-fi hotspot

NOTE4 - APN settings are not available for this user

I have seen meany forums ignore this one please help.
Device is T-mobile note 4
Rooted - I am using cyanogen mod - (trltexx) trltetmo does not work for my device.
( cm-12.1-20150808-NIGHTLY-trltexx.zip )
I get an MD5 error? but it installs anyway
There is no cellular service.
Everything works except my sim card. It wont detect it and my APN settings page says.
"APN settings are not available for this user"
Things I tried repeatedly as suggested by google searches
I tried each one with a clean rom install
1. - manually input APN settings (it wont save them)
2. - Reboot 5 times
3. - Remove the sim card before first boot
4. - Use wifi first to "warm up network"
5.- Wait 3 days for cellular tower to send me signal
6. - Wait 5 min
7. - Try a different rom (same problem with apn settings)
8. - let phone cool down with full battery
9. - Dial *#*#4636#*#* turn off radio?
10. - cry
I remember back when I had an HTC evo 4G everything was so simple...
I installed ROMs like crazy with no errors.
can anyone help me get my cellular service working?
