Hi
When my phone is connected to either my wifi or my schools wifi, I receive an ip address, but I can't load web pages at all. Also, I can't sync my my google account. Thinking that it might be a DNS problem, I've tried to enter a static ip at home and using 4.2.2.2 and 8.8.8.8 as DNS' but nothing works either. I'm running the latest Cyanogen mod(7.1.2), as I thought wiping cache, wiping dalvik, factory resetting and reinstalling another rom would fix my problem, but it hasn't. I've also tried different radio settings in the androdiani settings. This happened a few weeks after flashing a nightly build of cyanogen, so I don't think that was the problem, but I'm not ruling it out as a possibility. Does anyone know what might be wrong? Google hasn't helped much either.
can't ping using the pingback test in *#*#4636#*#* either, and won't even load me 192.168.1.1(my home router).
I had similar problem, but for me the pages loaded, but I had to wait 5-6 minutes to load them(on most of the pages, but not on all pages). But if I was on mobile data the pages loaded quickly. Today I installed pre alpha CM 9 and with it, it was quick
The ROM which is not suggested for daily use is better
i'm having the same problem. i just restored it back to factory setting (at least i think i did) i can connect to the wifi but it cannot load anything.
my wifi has great signal, but if i root the phone the wifi signal is very weak what can i do?
It didnt work for me either so i restored to factory setting and wiping the cache
try it
i have the same problem.
maybe you should check Radio type.
is 802.11b? You can try to exchange it for 802.11b\g\n
Very sorry for my english

Had my phone for a few months now and recently found that it can't connect to my secure network at home.
When I turn wifi on I get the dreaded connect/disconnect message while it constantly tries to connect to my network. If I leave it on then the battery will drain overnight while the phone tries to connect. I have an iphone which connects to the network no problem. As does my laptop etc
To try to fix this I deleted all my new apps, especially the push ones which give me news updates, etc but this has made no difference.
The weird thing is if I turn off my router's security then the phone will connect and works perfectly fine. I've tried using all the different security settings (even WPS) with new passwords etc and everything seems to setup fine on the phone except it just doesn't want to connect (or more accurately stays connected for a microsecond).
If I go back to an open network it connects immediately and stays connected.
I think this is the root cause of the wifi connection problems that many other people are getting. But I'm at a loss to try to understand why it won't pick up a secure network but works fine otherwise.
My phone is using 2.2.1 and has been rooted
Any thoughts?

Root the problem highly unlikely ..
Secure home network test .
Remove security from Router that is no password .
Remove that connection from phone .
Reboot phone let it pick up router and connect .
If it does then delete reset router password and add in phone .

Thanks for suggested fix. I'll give it a go and let you know if it worked.
Root was a bad choice of word..... I meant that while looking for a solution to my wifi problem I noticed many other people complaining that they can't connect to a wifi network for one reason or another and I was thinking that maybe broken security is a common cause of many wifi connection issues.. In my case there was nothing physical at all to suggest that security was an issue, especially since all my other devices work fine on the same network.
Cheers
Hi, tried your suggestion but I still cant connect. The first time I rebooted the phone it knocked out my internet connection! I've setup a static IP address for my PC and the phone was insisting on trying to connect using the same address and creating a conflict. I fixed that so that's not the issue.
This is what I've tried..
I checked to make sure DHCP was enabled in the router, rebooted everything. No luck.
I tried adding an IP Address Reservation for the phone and assigning a dedicated static IP Address. No luck either
I tried connecting the device using WPS. It all went as it should - my router saw the device, added the mac address to the list of devices etc. The phone acknowledged the handshake. But again it still wont connect.
I checked the router log and it says "DHCP IP: (192.168.1.2)] to MAC address B4:07:F9:336:3D, Tuesday, May 24,2011 03:08:48" which I think is what it should say.
OK I've just fixed it!!! Or at least its connected.
All along I've been securing the network with WPA2-PSK. I just changed it to WEP and the phone connected immediately. I hadn't considered WEP because I read that its not that secure and I do all my banking etc through my PC.
I've tried all the other security options and only WEP works with the phone. I suspect its a compatibility problem between the phone and my router (a Netgear WNT834B v2) because both the phone and router work independently but not very well together. There's plenty of posts discussing the Galaxy S connecting to WPA networks so it can do it.
Now, after trying all the other security options. It won't connect again even on WEP. Bummer. It is acting slightly differently in that its trying to acquire an IP address instead of simply not connecting, although it doesn't seem to be able to find one.
I need to try this on a friends network and see if the router or the phone is to blame. I've no idea... but the phone's a bit too touchy for my liking
I had a similar issue, I had to reflash the ROM to get it to work. Backup all your contacts and stuff and then do a full factory resetting. See if that helps, if it doesnt, reflash the ROM. It should work.
Well I've spent the last few days looking into this issue and it's considerably more widespread than I first realised. The problem is that while many people have a wifi connection issue we all seem to have variations on a theme.
As I say in my case the phone will connect and stay connected to an open network but won't touch a secure one. I tried many suggested fixes and nothing's worked so I am now trying a factory reset.
A couple of questions: there appears to be two ways to do this, a factory data reset through the phone menu; and a hard reset using a combination of volume buttons, etc. The hard reset seems to be the deeper of the two.
When you say full factory setting which one did you mean? I am currently data resetting and therefore using the "authorised" Samsung reset
But how long does this process take? My phone has had a black screen and been vibrating every 10 seconds or so for the last hour. It's getting quite hot and there appears to be no end in sight. Has the phone hung or something? If it has how do I get out of this without bricking the phone? It's beginning to concern me because I'll have to do something real soon.
As an aside, in my search for a solution I found something that might help someone people (it didn't work for me). According to the bloke who posted it, the problem for everyone is that the wifi drivers have not been installed properly and if you enter *#*#526#*#* on your keypad it unlocks a service access that reinstalls the wifi driver. I tried it and the phone told me the software was installed successfully but no change.
Waited long enough so pulled the battery out and restarted the phone. I get the startup screen but after that the screen goes black and it vibrates again every ten secs and I can't get in.
Have to try the other reset.....
Things are going from bad to worse..
Have managed to start a full factory reset using the volume, power and home button but it's gone back into the black screen and vibrating every ten seconds.
I know Im going off topic here but Ive now reset the phone, wiped the cache, tried to apply the sd card update (aborted because it can't find the directory) and it always comes back to the black screen and vibrating every ten secs.
Am now trying to reflash the rom. Oden reports that the flash was successful but the phone wont reboot. I tried a couple of times - one with Re-Partion checked and the other unchecked but neither will reboot. What could be causing that? I somehow remember that my firmware was JPH but I could only get hold of JPK. Could that be the cause?
I seem to have solved all the issues at last. Thought it was going to be a bit over my head for a spell.
Once I discovered that the only way I was going to get into my phone was by flashing the rom the first problem I came across was I didn't know which firmware my phone was using previously, apart from the fact it was 2.2.1 and from Asia. I guessed wrongly and after "successfully" flashing the phone it wouldn't reboot. I then noticed that there were only three variations of the 2.2.1 firmware for my region. The second one I tried went a little further than the first but I got an error message about the SD card. The third one installed no problem.
So I instantly checked the wifi signal and the phone connected to the secured network. And stays connected - so far about an hour and a half.
It's amazing how the phone deteriorated the way it did. Hope it doesn't do it again.
Thanks for any help/suggestions
My school's wifi is an open connection, but requires you to login through the browser for authentication. Using TexasIce and Medroid, I had no problems connecting, but using BCM, the browser does not load the login page, even if I enter the url for the authentication page directly.
Does anyone have a similiar problem or any idea how to solve it?
Other than this, the WiFi works fine. Before I flashed I did a full wipe, cleared cache and dalvik.
See if you can reinstall it and check rmount in the install options. I believe this may have something to do with it. Please post results. Thanks.
Thanks for the tip. I just reinstalled with rmount, but I will not be back to my campus until tomorrow so I will test it tomorrow and post results.
EDIT: I was able to get to the login page after installing with rmount. Thanks a lot.
However, now its telling me the page has too many server redirects but I doubt thats a problem with my phone. Its probably something with the network itself.
Hello mates, this is my first time ever posting on the forums, so feel free to call me a newb
So here's my problem. I have been using [JZO54K]_android_4.1.2_v5_oficial_stock_rom on my samsung I9000 for a while and was quite satisfied with how it was working, but I always had a problem with the camera not focusing properly on the moment when a picture is taken. So I decided it's maybe time to try out CM 10.1 (i usually stay away from CMs because i had problems with it freezing or being slow or rebooting without me doing anything on it) hoping it would be a good and smooth experience. So I followed the thread and the instructions precisely (it's not my first time flashing a rom, by any stretch of the imagination). Everything went well, signed in with my google account, google play started restoring my account to the phone, installing the apps and so on and suddenly it stopped. The wifi icon turned from blue to gray, which i know means that it's not getting a connection. So i reset my router, connected to the secondary router in my home and still a gray icon. All my computers in the home work fine, so it's not an internet connection problem. My data plan is out of mb's, so that's noot gonna be an option for me.
So, then i tried opening the browser on the phone, keeps trying to connect, doesn't get anywhere. So i decided to go back to my original rom and guess what? I have the same exact problem. So i tried flashing and reflashing both for a few times, got tired of it. Tried factory reset from the phone's menu, tried clearing everything, all caches, dalvik cache, nothing worked. So i'm stuck with a phone with no internet connection over wifi.
If anyone else had this problem, please help. Obvious stuff will not help me, as I know my way around the block, not that new to this. But i have already tried all the stuff you would get on a google search (like checking if sync is on or opening youtube and all that other stuff)
Thanks in advance, in the mean time, i will be flashing the stock rom with odin and gradually upgrade back up to probably elite's rom.
I've also added a screenshot with my baseband and all that info

So i have just flashed 2.3.6 using ODIN, having the same problem. Will connect to wifi, all internet applications can't get a connection. (and yes, i did check the date and time, in case someone was wondering)
So i have managed to figure out and solve the problem. it wasn't actually an issue from the phone. i tethered another device and managed to get a connection with wifi. it was an actual issue with the way my routers are set up. i have a main router that broadcasts a certain DHCP which is connected to another router that just acts as a bridge. the main router broadcasts in an ip range of 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.199 and the secodary router (which i connect to using my phone) that acts as a bridge, usually, if it were not configured to act as a bridge, it would broadcast in ip addresses ranging from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.199; both routers broadcast a different SSID, btw. so the main idea is that, any device that would get an internet connection in the house should have an ip address in the format of 192.168.0.xxx, and this is where the interesting part comes in.
after flashing and reflashing a few times, i started looking into the settings for the wifi on the phone and noticed that it was picking up an ip address of 192.168.1.66. the possible explanation would be that the main router might have stopped broadcasting the DHCP to the secondary one, and the secodary one decided to give it an ip address, hence the 192.168.1.66. but this still doesn't explain why even after reflashing the phone a few times, it still kept the same ip address, which is not suppose to happen, and even if i tried to connect directly to the main routers' SSID, it would still give an ip address of 192.168.1.66.
anyway, managed to get it working, finally decided to go back to elite's rom (after benchmarking on CM10.1, i noticed i get lower scores than what i would get on elite's). and i wasn't suppose to hard reset the phone, i was suppose to hard reset the routers, change the SSIDs on both which is easier and faster to do that anything on a phone.
I don't think that this would apply to anyone else, i guess it was just a freak accident in my home, but hey, if you ever get problems like the one i had, you might want to look into your routers as well
So, today my N6 started to show some strange signs when I was browsing internet when connected to my home WiFi. There was an exclamation mark together with WiFi icon showing no internet connection, but still I was able to open certain pages and use Facebook and similar apps, while many web pages were not opening, or some did open but partially rendered.
First time that happened, I rebooted my phone and everything worked fine, but now that doesn't fix it anymore. Same problem is with my data connection, so it's not a problem with my home network.
Anyone knows what's going on?
EDIT: Full wipe and fresh install fixed this problem for now. First tried wiping everything and then restoring from backup, but it didn't fix the problem, then I reflashed only radio and boot.img but that did not help either. I wanted to avoid fresh install, but it seems that was the only solution. Guess I'll stay stock for now. Still have no idea what caused this problem...
Hello guys.
Here is the situation.
I have installed the 8.1 update and everything was fine till it no longer worked.
The device is rooted, with Magisk and TWRP.
The phone does connect to the router but it shows a message "Internet may not be available". This message always is appearing but sometimes, even with this message, there is a very poor connection for a few minutes then it dies again (the "internet may not be available" message is ALWAYS on).
Steps attempted:
1) Forgetting and recreating the connection
2) Changing the router channels from 1 all the way to 14
3) Changing in the router settings the "authentication method" from WEP all the way to all types of WPA and WPA2, with many different encryptions.
4) Changed the WIFI password in the router settings
5) Reset the router to factory settings
6) Cleared cache on the device via apps AND via TWRP
7) Tried to change from DHCP to Static BOTH in the router settings and advanced connection settings on the device.
8) Tried changing the DNS on the device and the router, simultaneously and separately.
Funny things:
1) the phone connects to other AP's without a problem.
2) other devices connect to the router which the phone refuses to connect.
I have no idea what else I can possibly do. The only thing I haven't tried yet is resetting the phone, which I REALLY don't want to do and I refuse to believe that there is no solution for it.
I have searched for many, many hours for a solution but very few people have this problem and nobody could resolve it as yet.
This thing is really infuriating me and I am about to shoot this thing with a 12 gauge slug. Seriously.

shotgun solution sounds good for me
Flash the stock kernel to solve this problem, but will be unrooted.
Flash Oxygen Kernel then flash latest Magisk to be rooted.
Thanks for the answer. Is that something you've experienced before? I can't believe that this bug (or whatever it is) requires flashing stuff! I read some forums but most people are having this issue with the S8 and S9 running Oreo 8.x. And nobody came up with a solution. Not even Samsung.

yes I have experienced this. magisk changes something in your kernel and the only way to get it back is to flash the stock kernel through TWRP. it won't factory reset your phone because you are only changing the kernel (boot.img). You can also opt to uninstall magisk as well using its uninstaller which requires flashing. Flashing doesn't always mean it will factory reset your phone.
certain versions of magisk is appropriate for Oreo while the older versions break the networks like you mentioned. what works for me is 17.1 and above. I prefer the latest oxygen kernel because I can throttle the CPUs for gaming.
Just to make it simpler for you. Had you not installed magisk (root), I am pretty sure everything will work the way it was on your stock ROM.
