Indeed! If your talking to me
I sent a PM
There is already a thread with same topic but could not found it
I came here 1st time in 2006 looking for a new OS for my beloved Universal and since that time I am here living amongst XDA servers
Was looking for some apps for my Omnia I900 when i forst got it, amongst using this and modaco, I managed to flash winmo 6.5. I then moved onto HTC Touch Elf as I wanted a winmo phone but only had a symbian afterwards, and then got my Hero.
Best Phone Site Ever.
(And off topic kicks ass...)
Looking up hacks for my old old old HTC Wizard. My first touch screen smart phone.
BTW, I just realized I forgot to add it to my retired list.
I didn't find XDA. XDA found me.
I knew about it from a friend who never used it (said he heard about some X website for HTC).
A random guy saw me walking down the street with my tytn, commented on my super new at the time phone and asked what ROM i was running. He showed me xda on the spot and the rest is history lol.

I try to just go throug life and let things happen. It's so much more relax to live like that. So, I try not to DO nothing, and embrace what comes around.
In that sense, I did not find XDA, but it came to me along with my first PDA, a Sanyo Cassiopeia (if I remember correctly), that a friend sold me second hand.
So, it's really the same story as many of the other posters, but my point of view is different.
In 2008, I landed my sweaty hands on a htc tytn 2 (unbranded one), so after a few months. I heard of a wm 6.5 and was I want it on my device also. After, a google search It bought out (drum roll) XDA_Developers.com
Had an SPV c550 and was having problems with it this must be 2006-2007 something like that and got thrown to XDA via link, then got a Magician and didn't join up untill got the Excailbur.
I remember it was 2007, I was curious to know how to tweak my dash...so I found xda just googling. I was 1 year just checking the site just following threads (not sign in as a member). Started looking around and flashed my first rom...stayed cool for a while when I realized afterwards there was another tweak that can looked good in my dash (NGRZ's energy rom for the excalibur) I flashed and brick my first dash .
So, in Nov 2008 I became a member...and yes my first thread was "help!!!! I bricked my dashed...please help me!!!......(not ashamed at all)
After that....a lot of reading, tweaking and bricking. One major thing also that sometime we don't mention beside phones it's the great people around here and friends that probably I will not meet during my life, but this site gave the opportunity to know them and share good momments everyday with them .
That is a touching story! One of the best I've heard
This phone's been out for a while, and we should really figure something out in terms of how to root this. I had a Desire HD and I traded it for this... Without a root, we can't put any roms etc., and we should really try and figure out what we're going to do about the state of the root. Does anyone know if there's been any progress on the S-ON rooting front?
Rooting The Incredible S
waiting!!~~~
Please at least give the forum a vague glance before posting a new topic. There is a thread stickied with almost exactly the same title in the forum which has all the details on what has been tried and failed, what is being worked on and who is working on it
"and we should really try and figure out what we're going to do about the state of the root".
You should really try and look top post that is sticky!

To be honest getting S-off (and thus root) is not a big deal in most places (well many places anyway) any more, since access to XTC clip seems to be wide spread and getting wider every day. I don't think this is a barrier to Inc S development and custom ROMs any more. Just my opinion.
hey guys is there any root/roms for this device yet? ive tried searching and havent come up with anything... it all seems to be for the AT&T vivid...
The Raider x710a is the HTC Vivid, at least that's what it says under my battery cover.
Does the Rogers device have the same code?
Root's always been available for Canadian Raiders as your bootloader was unlocked much earlier than ours. custom ROMs are interchangeable by region.
well its actually a bell one, same device but i tried loading the ics official RUU from AT&T and it was a no go?
set sail for fail, another day, another newb
just newb with this device, if you check my threads i use to cook roms for the magic...so stfu

Learn the art of posting on XDA. This should be in general.
You asked for root and ROMs. For you, this has been available for what feels like centuries. Just looking at the dev board would have gotten your answer.
Now you're talking about ICS RUU, which is neither of those. Searching anywhere would have immediately told you that you need an OTA with the new HBOOT and the Canadian carriers have not released that yet!
Ai ya yai, it's no surprise that PG left.
ok so its rooted, and if im corrected there is no ics available to flash?
Yes.

A lot of it flew out the window when PG left. There were so many people who kept asking the same questions over and over, who didn't search nor follow instructions, then proceeding to come here and whine about why their phone/ROM didn't work. PG got fed up. It's part of why the development here is so weak.
This posed question really is no different. I can provide decent responses to good questions and demonstrated competence, but it's immensely tedious to try to respond to the same questions over and over when the answer is readily plastered all over the place.
It was common understanding in the old Captivate forum that one is to search before posting, then post their question. For some reason, the problem wasn't nearly as pronounced there, and all places in which it appeared was in the General section. I feel like the convoluted (by comparison) HTC setup is causing a lot of angst among those new to this, but the information to do things properly is still present on the forums as much as it was before. All people must do is read thoroughly and follow directions. Nobody is responsible for your device except you, so it's your fault if you brick your $500+ phone.

I can understand the intolerance for whiners, but he wasn't whining. I know the history of PG and the reasons he left.
The quick quips telling someone to search really aren't helpful. Maybe they did and it was confusing or they didn't find the answer.
For that matter, if searching is always the response at XDA, we don't need XDA since all of the same answers are available on other websites and can be Googled.
The Internet is free and we can act however we wish. My wish is for a more helpful, less critical culture.

Same questions everywhere i look
I have been using xda for years, i never post, i do this out of respect for the devs and people who have legit questions in the tread but since i just got my HTC raider last week (i have a G-Nexus as my main device) i started to Rom and ROot this device and i have seen so much anger on these threads, brothers i have the same hate for mundane and stupid questions that can be answered by control -F-, or the search button at the top, i have found a answer to every problem i have had for almost 3 years worth of androids (G1,DEXT,DesireZ,GalaxySVibrant,MOTOAtrix,Xt860,samsung note, galaxy nexus) Just for the love of god please use the search functions that we have at our disposal so that we dont loose DEV's like PG and we continue to make these phones better than they are
lets stand up for justice in the forums

I'm not talking about this isolated instance. I'm saying in general. OP didn't whine, but his second question posted a very simple and very common question whose answer is found all over the shop.
Every thread I've read ever since joining XDA has a clear instruction set. Never found any problems, and any unclear bits was usually cleaned up within at most a day. Especially for things that are guided/intuitive like RUU updating or CWM flashing. Anything deviating from that has always had clear and express instructions.
I agree with you on the searching front. It's just that by consequence, XDA is a pinnacle for Android development information and Google's search is not localized to the forum (though it can be forced), nor are all its threads indexed with the latest information on the latest issues, unlike the forum search and its ability to parse posts as they are made. Likewise, most of the information here cannot be found elsewhere unless heavily publicised.
My wish is for XDA's culture to have more autonomy and less incompetence. XDA is more of an instruction manual when it comes to knowing the ins, outs and modifications that you can do to your device.
Anyway, let's end this before it erupts. I am now abandoning this thread.

I think it is because lot of people want new phones quite often! If there are no buyers then there would not be any new phones.
I think we should be fortunate enough to get an ICS release for IncS. Not many manufacturers provide this kind of support to their 2 old mobile devices.
Yea...they should release it or am going to sell my phone now

No. you have posted on a thread in the Incredible S forum, not the HTC Desire forum.
Why another thread about this?
Even now just on the front page there are 2 other threads talking about the same updates..
It'll come when it comes...
And for all those who are whining about updates not being on time, remember your phone manufacture gains nothing (read money) by updating your phone.
They might as well sell another phone with the latest software and make money off it than having their devs work on something which will make no money.
And if by threatening to sell a particular brand of phone & never buy one again, the phone manufacturers have seen this over and over again and it is acceptable collateral. you think it's going to be any different with any other phone maker?
the logic applies for everyone.
Only iPhones have a longer support cycle of around 3 years, but hey if you are gonna be happy with what an iphone offers, me thinks you should already be there.
can we please just wait for ICS to be released rather than opening a thousand new threads about the same topic?
Please feel free to fill the existing threads with 100 pages of curses, abuses, wishes whatever....
While everyone is waiting for their phones, I thought I would start a thread where we could just talk without worrying about going off-topic. If you want to talk about how other phones compare to the HTC First, rant about rotten fruit and the vegetables that use them, etc, than this is the place.
Just please remember that all of the forum rules still apply here though.
welcome to XDA
Hi everybody, I am one of the mods on the team, welcome to the forums. If you post a question thread here in the General forum and notice it is missing, please check the One Q&A forum and you might just find it there.
If you posted a placeholder thread simply to gain thanks for doing nothing, you might have to keep looking...

about the placeholder threads.... you will close the placeholders or delete them
? people start the placeholder index threads (they are closed) and then when the device is released their thread is opened again and that is not fair. if such threads are opened again then what is the use of closing them at the first place. it would be better if you delete any placeholder threads when they are created.
just a request to mods that you delete placeholders.
thanks

To be honest I hadn't decided completely. I understand that such threads are going to be opened even though they are really off-topic and have nothing to do with the phones. In some cases depending on the quality of the post and the attitude of the member, I might undelete/reopen it, but I might not since the only real purpose in opening such a thread now is to gain thanks for doing nothing of real benefit and I don't think that type of behavior is generally to be rewarded. Especially when it is really of no benefit whatsoever. Not like a placeholder for a [GUIDE] or something actually potentially useful, especially if done by a well-known member with a good history.

Not yet. But according to The Verge, the One Mini will be released in the US (AT&T) on Friday. Hopefully, some dedicated Dev might be able to port its (4.2) ROM to the First - or use it to help get CM or other ASOP working.
some pics i took
i think the htc first is a sexy looking thing, and decided to take some pictures using a background defocus mode. didnt quite work out since the camera doesnt recognize PHONES as a face or anything to focus on...so i did the best i could and came up with this.
i had to compress the pcitures, originaly each one was around 3.5 - 4 megabytes in size and was around 2000x1400 in size or something around there. in otherwords. huge.

thing is guys. Rashed can do it. like he could do it blindfolded and port like anything no joke ive seen this happen. but what he needs is like a ton of spare time. being in highschool is busy stuff. im just fresh out of there and into college, barely find some time to sit down and ruu my phone cause i use it for like school and stuff.
so if we all have patience either he will do it or someone else, so dont get sad.
also, some plain logic. the more we wait the more people buy the first and the more support we get.
Sadly the First is discontinued so not much people will be buying it unless they are looking for it specifically lol.
