Netflix for Android released....only for 5 devices no..NO XOOM!

http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/12/netflix-releases-android-app-for-select-htc-phones-samsung-nexu/
I hope the Xoom is not far behind.
I hope they start rolling this out on different devices.
The leaked netflix app a while back now has a different error message saying that the device is not supported
I wonder if we can trick the new app into thinking we are on one of those devices to try it out for the time being.
Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk
Why would they not release this on tablets at the same time? That's retarded. I hope someone can port it to the xoom.
Surprising when I hit the Android Market web site and select install.. Not only does my Incredible show as a selection on the list, but so does my Nook Color!! The Thunderbolt, X and Xoom are grayed out.
I wonder if this app is built like the HBO2Go app (which complains about compatibility with the device on start up), or if we can pull the APK and side load it? (I'll have to test when I get home and power on my old Incredible)

Yea I was thinking the same thing (and the Thunderbolt too). Hopefully someone can try it out.
none of the device listed are multicore... fortunately the nexus s is not a qualcom chip based device so at least we know its not locked into a single manufacturer... i suspect that we will get it as soon as they roll out tegra support

that is kind of what I expected.. just like the APK pulled from the LG rom a while ago... and kind of like what the HBO2Go apk does when loaded onto other devices...
D/l and installed Netflix apk. Everything works except streaming. Tells you your device is not supported. I wonder if its a simple fix. I'm going to look into it.

You can get the apk at multiupload. com/ NPZ062QIZB (stupid post limit, sorry)
I sideloaded it on my X and my Xoom. It works on my X, but the Xoom gets an 'unsupported device' error.
Cracked apk open. In the lib/armeabi file it lists 5 supported devices. They are in .so format however, not sure how to edit those. I'll keep everyone updated

There is an 'isdevicesupported()' function in the androidutils source file that they use to check compatibility, however my attempts to edit the SMALI code has ended in failure on my part I just get an app that crashes, and I'm too lazy to build the app in debug and find out why.
Genius in progress
I do say, indeed, it was no trouble getting the APK file from my EVO to my Xoom. Should any of you, Dear Sirs, figure out a non-destructive way of getting this to play on a Xoom, I shall ask the Gods to bestow upon you: the Sword of Light.
I installed on my EVO earlier and it works beautifully! Wish it would come to the xoom

Whats the exact error you see?
Can you download LOGCAT from market an paste contents when you see the camera fail?
What other apps do you use that take control of the camera?
It maybe that one of those apps or services doesn't release the camera hardware properly!

I only ask cause there are doesn't seem to be a hardware connection error in the logs, tell me, could you reset the device so no other camera software on there, and then you restart the device, and ONLY use the default camera, does it still say camera failed?
Also after you see the camera failed, does it look like the screen (all of the screen) got a little bit higher contrast and sharper?
Also is this just stock rom?
Well i did as u said......uninstalled all camera apps except default one & rebooted....checked again...the problem persists...
And yeah the screen gets brighter & more contrast & my screen brigthness setting defaulted unmarking the auto option....
I dont have idea about what stock rom is.....!!!!

Well my conclusion is that something you install uses the camera, it will be run as either an app or a service and it doesn't release the camera properly.
So.. Do a factory reset, and just try the camera without installing anything. If the problem is there still then yes it's hardware, if not then it as I said.
Stock ROM is the default Radio/OS android version that comes with the device from the manufacturer, or their latest released update.

I am having the same problem w 2 CDMA tabs. VZN and Sprint. I can still use camera after rooting but as soon as I apply CWM the camera failed warning comes up every time. I have not deleted or frozen any apps. I am not sure what to do, When I restore to factory the camera works once again. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks
Never mind, I flashed a new kernel and that fixed it. The older CWM kernel does not support the latest EC02. I kinda thought that may be it.

Landscape home screen.

One of my biggest pet peeves with Sense is the lack of ability to have the home screen be in landscape mode. I know phones in the past worked in landscape mode but only in a car dock with car App closed. I have allway's found a rom that had "Rosie Landscape?" using Bad Seed 2.0 right now love it except for that.
Is there a fix? I remember back for my old phones they had add-on package with this kind of options.
I do not want to get rid of sense as a launcher.
Any idea?

Today I dropped down my HTC M8 and because it was dirty I washed it, attar that it starts to rotate the home screen. Also it had some another strange behaviors (open some apps, start to ring without incoming call) but when it became dry everything run normal.
My M8 phone is rooted but with original rom. I only rooted it to get rid of ads.
So I thing there is setting for that and I want to find it
There is a setting you can enable in the system database.
open an adb shell and run:
/system/xbin/sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
Then you can enter to
Read value:
select value from 'system' where name = 'tweaks_support_landscape';
Change value:
update system SET value=1 where name='tweaks_support_landscape';
Add value:
INSERT INTO "system" VALUES(NULL,'tweaks_support_landscape','1');
exit sqlite with .quit
