SD card problem with alfs 06 and gingerdx - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I cant use my SD Card after flashed alfs v06 and installed gingerdx 021.
When i plug usb cable into phone and click "Turn usb storage" i get "you can safely remove SD Card" and then the "Turn usb storage" screen reappears. My PC Companion doesnt even detect my phone.
I can acces my sd card using file manager.
how can i copy stuff on my sd card?

are you instal after flash kernel update chargemon its on first post in alfs thread if not than back to stock kernel and put to you sd update chargemon flash alfs kernel clear dalwik and cache in cwm and instal update
all is in alfs first post

i didnt update chargemon after flashed alfs06. is this the problem ?

yes thats beacuse of that

do you use swap
I have problem with sd card mounting and alfs 5
I can't mount SD card to computer while having SWAP file enabled.
which is kind of logic because swap is a file on SD card and system uses it as RAM.
enabling swap partition should fix the problem because only FAT partition should be mounted to computer and phone could continue to use SWAP.
SD EXT partition should be better to use instead of built in app2sd, because phone could continue to use Apps while SD FAT partition is mounted to comp.
I'm not sure all thisl is true, because I didn't try it. but, from how I understood what I read, it should be like that.

i installed chargemon update from alfs first page and everything works fine
hope i wont get random reboots anymore

sorry I forgot that chargemon and vold update is one update.
It's actually vold update you need for sd card to work, chargemon is to be able to charge phone when it's off. At least I understood it that way.
But all I said does happen to me, so that may help somebody other.

Hi guys, i was trying to find a solution and i think i made it. It's not that everything is connected but it did work for me.
What i did:
1. settings/application settings/ unknown sources - ON
2. settings/application settings/Development
- usb debugging - ON
- USB debugging notify -ON
- Allow mock locations - ON
3. Reboot in CWM recovery
- go to mount and storage (important!!)
- mount /sdcard
- go back, install zip from Sdcard
- choose zip from sdcard, find it and install it!!
That's it!

I have a same issue with alfs kernel (with vold/chargemon update). In my desktop pc with Win7 the phone connect, but in my laptop with Winxp cannot connect. Try this modified driver, i modified the inf file in flashtool driver, and the phone connect with alfs kernel under winxp and win7 too

[Q] SGS Appears As READ ONLY CD-ROM Drive

Weird enough, My SGS appears as a READ-ONLY CD-ROM drive when it's connected through USB. "The USB Storage Is In Use Screen" is on. Able to read the files in my internal SD card, but can't write any.
Under device manager, it shows up as Android UMS CD-ROM Drive.
Please help.
Which custom kernel are you using, I'm gussing you're on JPU...
Yes you are right, I am on JPU.
Using the Darky's 5.5 ROM over here
is this a common problem?
Flash http://project-voodoo.org/downloads/Voodoo-jpu_test-5.0.2-Froyo-GT-I9000-odin-pda.tar via ODIN as PDA, should fix the problem
Alternativly, you can flash http://project-voodoo.org/downloads/stock+Voodoo-5.0.2-Froyo-GT-I9000-unsigned-update.zip as update.zip from CWM (vol up, power + middle button) To place the file on your internal card, you can use CWM to mount the phone, OR place the file on an external sd card, and copy it over OR download the file directly onto your phone.
I actually found this,
I have problems mounting the sdcard on my pc, or it shows as a cddrive
This is Fixed in V5.5. otherwise use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...postcount=5741
If it you can acces it but can't write to it from your pc try to disable usb debugging.
Can it be the problem?
Can't see that link
Opps. it's http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9804784&postcount=5741
I actually have the Voodoo lagfix installed, the links you gave me are they lagfixes too?
Problem fixed with the link above. Simple Thanks!

Got almost the same problem earlier today (not with CM though).
A restart solved that problem (for now). Have you tried that?

Has there been any kind of notification telling you that your SD is corrupt?
Can you see your SD card in a file manager?
Do you even have an SD card? CM does the internal storage differently.

I'm surprised that Cyanogenmod install can be done without a physical external SD card.
It's mandatory to have an external SDcard to use Cynogenmod, even if your internal SDcard is empty.
There are complicated things to do as mentionned above to switch internal and external mounting points for Cyanogen but I can guess this can be tricky for someone not used to those things....
So:
- buy a sdcard, even a small one, internal sdcard still can be used for multimedia files and so on, and is mounted as /mnt/emmc (grab Astro File manager for exemple to see it) and is concerned by media scanning.
- flash back stock firmware (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1127849) if you didn't made a Nandroid backup before flashing CMod.
- flash another optimized Froyo rom (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1127849 there are some)
- Didn't try Paul Modaco's Gr2, based on official Lg leak 2.3.4, perhaps its mouting points are more conventionnal; but Gr1 pre-baked didn't went good for me as there were no SIM card detection (probably missing some APN related files or so...) so I jumped to CyanogenMod Nightly.
I just bought an O2x with CM7 RC1 already installed. The camera doesn't work (Please insert an SD card before using the camera) and my computer doesn't find the phone when i connect the USB cable(it says it's charging but nothing happens on the phone or the PC). I tried installing LG Pc Suite and the official software on the LG site(mobile updater) and the USB driver seems to be installed but nothing happens when i connect the phone.
What should i do? Should i flash a newer CM7 nightly or a stock firmware? (i have literally no idea how to do that, i'm going to have to read some tutorials). Can i do that if i can't connect the phone via the USB cable? Is there another way?
Yeah flash a newer version, RC1 is quite dated. In the new nightlies you can make internal storage replace the SD card.
You can update the drivers with the LG Mobile Support Tool, PC Suite isn't compatible with CM7.
I installed LG Mobile Support Tool, still nothing. The battery is "Charging" but nothing else happens on the phone/pc. Can i flash a newer version if i can't use the usb to connect to the phone?
Edit: The phone has ROM Manager 4.3.2.3 installed and when i start it: "The SD Card needs to be mounted to use ROM Manager."
I suspect you don't have an SD card, only internal storage. You can't use ROM Manager with that on RC1.
Try the drivers here: http://android.modaco.com/topic/335...elease-103521-20110725/page__view__getnewpost
No, i don't have external SD card. The phone already had CM7 when i bought it. So i just have to download those 3 files and follow the tutorial?
I also found this tutorial and it has that AP BIN thing in plus. Which one to follow? I would be happy to install stock froyo if everything works on it.
Which one to follow depends on what you want for your phone. Personally I'd use CM7.
Ok , i'm gonna go with CM7. If i follow that tutorial(the one you posted) what exactly i'm gonna have on my phone? What does it do? Don't i have to install a newer CM7 nightly build?
This tutorial doesn't say what to put in the AP Bin box, i just leave it blank?
If you go with CM7 then you have to install via recovery, not Smartflash, completely different process.
Download the newest version from here: http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=p990
Save to your phones internal SD card
Update recovery (unless already on 4.0.0.9 or higher)
Reboot to recovery (can use ROM Manager for that)
Install zip from SD card
Choose zip
Select the CM zip and pick yes
Reboot
In the CyanognenMod settings, in the top option (i foget what it is now) tick 'use internal storage'
Reboot again and you're away
"Save to your phones internal SD card" How am i gonna do that? I can't use usb to connect the phone.
Oh, have you not sorted that yet? Bugger.
Try running mount -t auto /dev/block/mmcblk0p9 /sdcard from the terminal, with any luck this will make your internal SD /sdcard and you should be able to download CM via the phone. You can also use ROM Manager to install it then as well.

[Q] Internal SD partition DEAD

I cannot wipe, format, mount the internal SD partition
I can boot into the rom(Nova HD Plus RC2-6), get into the recovery CWM 5.0.2.0
When I connect my phone to PC, my phone shows I can choose USB connection (MTP/PTP)
choose PTP, nothing happens
choose MTP, it shows LG-P990 as a portable multimedia device
open internal storage, it shows no file, but the available space is 3.63GB/5.27GB
I cannot transfer any file from my PC to the phone, it always says error
I tried to flash the rom again, (I can choose update zip from internal SD)
the NOVA PLUS rom is stored in internal sd because I have no external SD
but none of the any method works ..

Try updating through official lg tool
Sent from my LG-P990 using Tapatalk
Send to warranty if you at least can wipe modded sw
In CWM.. there is an option to fix permissions.. have you tried that?
Also.. I recently saved my screwed up partitions on my phone using NVFlash (I hope you don't need to go that far though).
Same problem guys!!
Please help
Cant access internal SD .. Now trying to reinstall a gingerbread rom and see if i can work it back.. Cant restore my back up as well.
Do this..the rom files, baseband are corrupted..
On the pc download smartflash and install it..

pull down the battery and connect the phone to the PC with the button vol -
pushed..Now flash the bin and fls files and the problem ids resolved..

If the above from morenosorina doesn't work, then try NVFlash next. Saved me phone recently when I couldn't access the internal SD properly

[Q] After formatting internal SD with NTFS it can't mount nor format even with CWM

It happened after formatting it with NTFS (it was a temporary thing so I can use it with one of Microsoft services), and my device is working and rebooting properly without any error messages..So what can I do now to make my SD working again?
(I don't really need the data that was on it, I just need the card to work)
Thanks..

try formatting the card from within CWM, i presume if you boot up the phone you can't mount/unmount it and subsequently format it from within Android.
but i would try fromating it as FAT32 from within Windows 7 first, NTFS is not supported by Android to the best of my Knowladge...
Thanks, yes I can't format it in Android since i can't mount it, I've already tried formatting it from CWM with no luck, it showed this:
Formatting /sdcard...
Error mounting /sdcard!
Skipping format...
Done.
And windows doesn't see the card at all when I connect phone to PC, so I can't use windows to format it too.

Try a formatting tool or recovery tool in My Android Collections
olaf2k4
Turned out you're right, the problem is android not being able to handle NTFS properly, I tried to format external SD card with NTFS to see what will happen, and I had the EXACT same symptoms, but of course I removed from phone and had it formatted using card reader and it's working properly now with my phone..
xsenman
The problem now is that windows can't see internal card at all, I've tried one of format tools form the link you put, but it didn't help since phone "doesn't allow" windows to detect the memory, any other way to do it? right now I'm trying this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1724078
It seems like it isn't easy to install NTFS support from the link above (since you need fuse.ko file that should be compiled for both your device and ROM), is there any kernal that support NTFS or any other easy way to do it?
If you are talking about your external sd just format at fat32. This is standard for sdcards and your phone wil reconize your card..
Unfortunately it is the internal one..

Finally, I found a solution, just do the following (I tried it and it worked):
1. First install the drivers ONLY if you haven`t already installed them, also if you have Kies installed there is no need to install these drivers, but you are better off installing these anyway : http://dev-host.org/ZRA
2. Download this package (it includes i9000 stock rom+kernel+odin) : http://dev-host.org/RAE, if you have a Captivate or a Vibrant just download a stock rom for your phone model and find a kernel which has root and cwm in it.
NOTE : The next step will require using the 3 key combo for accessing the clockworkmod recovery and also the download mode. The 3 key combo used below is for the Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000. If you own a Captivate or a Vibrant please click this link and choose your phone model to see what 3 key combo must be used, as it differs from one phone model to another : http://tinyurl.com/6q6ajpx
3. After you have extracted all the contents you downloaded and installed drivers, put your phone into download mode using the 3 key combo : volume DOWN + home button+power button, keep those pressed until it goes into download mode.
4. Connect phone to PC via USB Cable and open Odin (windows should detect the phone and install some drivers, after it`s finished you should see the message "Added!" in Odin which means Odin succesfully detected your phone so now you are ready to flash)>check Re-Partition Option>press PIT button and browse for the s1_odin_20100512.pit file, press BOOTLOADER button and browse for the APBOOT… file, press PDA button and browse for the CODE….file, press PHONE button and browse for the MODEM….file, press CSC button and browse for the GT-I9000-CSC….file. PRESS START button and wait for the green pass notification in Odin.
• When the phone reboots into the rom, wait for the setup wizard to appear and then just use the 3 key combo into the download mode again.
Close Odin and open it again> press PDA button and browse for CF-Root…file> Press START button and wait for the green pass notification in Odin.

No need to do all this.
Just:
- remove external sd card (if you have one inserted)
- reboot into CWM-based recovery
- mounts and storage
- mount USB storage
You will be able to see and format, FAT32, the disk using windows

I tried your method, but selecting "Mount USB" was throwing the error i mentioned in my last post. Though i solved it eventually. Somehow i ended up in the phone's own recovery/bootloader menu, had an option of "Low level format" there. Took around an hour or so .. but it worked :good:
