Hi,
I was trying to install cynogenmod 7.1 on my galaxy s vibrant i9000. My carrier is bell
Model Number GT-I9000M
Firmware Version 2.3.3
Baseband Version I9000UGKG3
Kernel Version 2.6.35.7-I9000UGKG3
[email protected]#2
build GINGERBREAD.GKG3
When I was trying to do go in recovery mode, backup Rom or change ROM with ROM manager, it went on the 3e recovery setup and was saying something about the whole-signature failed. I've read somewhere that this was due to the fact that my kernel was restricting something and that I needed to change my kernel with Odin in order to not being signature verifed anymore. So I picked up a kernel on a forum and tried to put it in my galaxy s in download mode with Odin and the PDA button while having the re-partition button unchecked.
After doing so, odin said that the operation failed and when I disconnected my phone, there was only a small icon showing a cellphone and a computer with a small triangle with a ! in it between the cellphone and the computer. In other words I messed things up and my sgs wont boot anymore.
Can someone give me a good kernel to put in my phone so it can reboot? Because I still can go in download mode!
I know, Im a total newbie...
Thanks
I assume that the ID:COM box in Odin went yellow before you pressed the Start button initially....
If not, that's your first problem that needs to be addressed, as you can't flash unless Odin can see your phone.
You can get a rooted kernel here.
If that doesn't get you up and running and you haven't downloaded UGKG3, go here and search for UGKG3 and download it.
omg, thank you sooooooo much! It worked!
Do you know a kernel that I could use to for my phone to accept custom ROMs ?
Glad that worked.
UGKG3 does not have a lot of support from the developer community, as it's a rather rare release with only a couple of carriers using it.
Semaphore and CF-Root seem to be the popular ones that include CWM.
Not sure which one you would use with UGKG3, as it's not well supported.

3 combos buttons work ?
Vol down+home+power on/off ?
Vol Up + home+ power on/off ?
if yes, try to flash the correct rom for I9000M
If you can get into download mode, and Odin sees your phone, then it is very unlikely that you bricked it.
Just flash Darkys ressurection or stock Samsung ROM from Odin.
ok installed darkys, now all phone does is flash galaxy i9000 screen
managed to get past that screen and back to recovery mode, and still d/l mode, trying EZBASE now as i was getting as far as colour S then bursts of vibrations
UPDATE:
stuck on boot loop now, still can access recovery and d/k mode, after trying to install EZBase. is their any other siggestions.
pref, instructions and files for re-loading stock firmware for australia on it, if memory calls had 2.2 of eclair
still no luck people, any further advice please
I just had the same issue with my i9000m. Download the fireware I9000UGJL2.exe from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846913
It fixed my issue instantly. Then go to that kitchen rom website and create your own ROM. My phone has never been faster. GPS works very good, way better than before. Even cell service is 100000000000 times better....
ok, good news is i have it working stock rom and rooted, got most aps back on, now my issue is, i cant install clockwork recovery from rom manager, i tried it via odlin and got the screen of phone and pc and the exclamation mark. can some1 please help out as to how i can get clockwork recovery mod installed.
fone details are
galaxy S i9000I now just without the i

ried flashing
CF-Root-XW_XEE_JVB-v3.1-CWM3RFS
Go to D/L mode and reflash the kernal.
So you tried flashing Chainfires JVB kernal on a 2.1 rom?
I think that's the problem....

ok thanks, what should i flash then, or how can i update to 2.2 or 2.3 without loosing files and apps ?
Man you should not try to flash things when you don't understand them.
For this moment you tried to flash a kernel that is for a gingerbread rom (JVB, android 2.3.3) on your Eclair 2.1. Don't you think you should read a bit more before flashing everything on your phone?
Go to the official rom thread and follow the guides to flash a gingerbread(2.3.3) or Froyo(2.2) rom
Ok ill put this as plain and as simple as i can
1. I am new to flashing
2. I asked how to do it, as after all this is a q&a section
3. I feel my questions hvae not been answered correctley
so i shall explain again and this time links may help
1. I want a kernal that will give me recovery options
2. I do not want to loose anything on the phone
3. I want to upgrade to 2.3
so i would like links please or someone who can take the time to write a quicvk step list telling me what to do.
You really need to go to main thread and all info is there, it would take ages to talk you out of this...its all out there, seek and you shall find, its tough love

Hey All,
Here is my funky story. I bought a GT-P1000N from Amazon Unlocked for development. Not realizing this would be a unit that was supposed to be sold in Brazil and not the USA, I started flashing away. All was well until.... it went dark. Unable to revive the unit, I took it to a cool little place here in Toronto called M-Tech and the guy used a Riff box to revive it. He was able to reflash the original Stock rom onto it.

All attempts to flash various Modems have failed using either Odin or Heimdall. Using either one, flashing the modem.bin will appear to PASS, and the tablet will reboot, but *#1234# is still reporting above.
Additionally, and oddly, I tried to flash Humbros's rom, starting with the Kernel zImage using Odin, this too seemed to Flash PASS, and upon restarting, Kernel reports the same original Kernel as before, not the new one.
Kernel: 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1
Build number: FROYO.UBJM2
Any ideas how I can get a new modem.bin to flash at least?
Also, why is the Kernel flash not taking?
Thanks,
BluePlanetMan
I once did something like that to my p1000l with odin. The solution was to flash only the modem.bin with odin in phone section
Btw kernel wont stick if you flash it in phone section in odin, it needs to be in pda section.
Try flashing a whole rom w/repartition in odin if the above doesn't work

Ok,
I flashed Roto JME V4, and all looked ok, but I have NO touch screen. So, went back into download mode and reflashed P1000NUBJM2 which seems to be the only rom that will work and give me a touch screen.
Attempts to flash a kernel (of the ones I tried) have failed, Odin flashes, says Pass, but Kernel stays the same as before. Also same results for Modem.bin I have tried several different ones, but Baseband is still showing as "Unknown"... I am stumped as to why this would be??? I wish I could have gotten into the settings when Roto was flashed just to see what the Kernel and Baseband looked like, but I had not control to look at it.
You have the latin version of the tab. You need to flash the kernal by humbertos to get your touch screen working
Hello im attempting to Root my SGS so i can eventually install a CM7 Nigtly on it but im running into to problems EVERYWHERE.
I have flashed a SGS last year when it was on eclair and had no problem at all but no matter what i try i cant root or flash 2.3.3
According to the *# key combo to find out firmware i have
PDA: I9000BUJV9
PHONE: I9000BUJV3
CSC: I9000GVODJV5
i tried rooting using fuguroot and heimdall but got "Failed to access device -12", tried using odin and it failed. i even tried gingerbreak and nothing.
Can someone point me to a thread that will let me root my phone so i can put CWM onto it then CM7.
Sorry this is such a messy question i have been trying to make it work for getting on for 12 hours.
See this link (http removed cause i only have 6 posts) for my Version information - desmond.yfrog.com/Himg611/scaled.php?tn=0&server=611&filename=rfw.png&xsize=640&ysize=640
Hmmm...
Download 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 or whatever GingerBread firmware from here: http://www.sammobile.com/threads/17-Samsung-I9000-Galaxy-S-Firmwares.
Let say you downloaded 2.3.5. You flash it via Odin with .pit file & with re-partition ticked. Then you go to developement section, you pick one of the Kernels with JVT support and flash it via Odin (put the kernel you downloaded to PDA box)
Then you have rooted SGS and you can try Recovery mode by pressing Vol up + Menu button + power button at the same time when the phone is shutted down. press the buttons until you see SGS logo.
Hope this helps you.
If you have any questions, you can drop me a PM
Hey guys,
So recently I tried rooting my phone with CF-Root and Odin, and then it went into a boot loop of just the Galaxy S on startup.
I eventually found out about Heimdall and right now I'm running 2.2.1 Froyo with Build XWJSD.
Problem is, that the phone doesn't read the SD card? Like it will see the SD Card, scan it, and say it's finished scanning but then it won't let me access it either in CWM or through the Android UI itself.
Any ideas? I just want to get MIUI installed haha.
Well I just tested the SD card in another phone and it works fine. So it's definitely the software/rom I'm using now I think.
Is there anything I can do to make this work. Maybe like a completely stock 2.2.1, that is guaranteed to work haha? I just need this card to be read. Because even when I plug the phone and run Kies, Kies doesn't recognize the version of the firmware. And If I try to use superoneclick root, it also doesn't recognize the version of the firmware.
So right now I'm using 2.2.1 XWJSD, which stock rom should I install with odin or Heimdall to make this work?
Thanks a lot again.
Head over to this thread and download JVZ (Gingerbread 2.3.6), flash with Odin with re-partition checked, then head over to Chainfire's thread for CF-Root kernel for JVZ and flash that through Odin as well.
Forget about Kies since you'll no longer be using that to update firmware and whatnot.
CF-Root will come with CWM installed, so after you get that done, download MIUI and flash through CWM
Thanks a lot will try it out.
This CF-Root right? CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVZ-v4.3-CWM3RFS.zip
Unfortunately the phone is stuck in a bootloop now after installing 2.3.6 JVZ.
Did you make sure re-partition is checked? If it still bootloops after re-partition then try JVT or some other stock ROM and see if that boots up before applying the CF-Root kernel
Yeah I made sure re-partition is checked, and I installed it with the 512 pit file, unless I shouldn't be using the .pit?
your gona have to reflash the rom or install arom thats already rooted you could try darky 10.2 re or check out puggerduk on tube
Root Galaxy S i9000 and install a custom rom
Hey guys refer to this thread:

He's having the same issue, so just help us out there Thanks alot!

MIUI is running based on Android 2.3, I found the Android forum that helps me well enough to do my first flashing and rooting. Here is what you need to try to do:
1. Flash your i9000 with XXJVU 2.3.6 ( Value Pack ):
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/xxjvu/
2. Root your I9000 with CF-Root-XX OXA JVU 2.3.6-v4.3-CWM3RFS:
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/root-xxjvu-firmware/
Do everything on the post and you can install MIUI ROM from recovery straight away after that.
Hope this helps. If it does, please consider press 'THANKS' button
Hello,
I am not new to this rooting business i have successfully rooted my Sony X10 and Galaxy nexus.
My GF has a Samsung I9000M and after 6 hours of struggling i am still at stage one (what ever that is...)
Can i please get a step by step guide at how to do this?
I have Kies and Odin 1.82 installed.
I am running 2.3.3 with build GKG3
at this point i don't know how to get Root to install CWM to do a backup and flash my Zips.
Thank you for any help...
The simplest way is to flush a rooted Kernel over ODIN. For more details just google "Use Odin To Root Samsung Galaxy" there are tones of guides. Just be sure to flush the right kernel for your galaxy S

Yep, download a custom kernel. Download Odin, put the tar file in the PDA option. Put your phone in download mode, connect it to pc. When Odin detects your phone( yellow color), hit start and you are good.
do u want to know how to root or how to put ics??
i got 4.3 on my phone but signal was relay bad, i flasher gkg3 in odin under phone now i have no signal and no base band...
If I guess right, you got ICS on the i9000m and then flashed a kg3 modem with Odin?
For ICS you need to flash the kg3 modem for cm7 (even if it's onecosmic or teamhacksung) to get your signal back,
just flash this in CWM recovery and you should be good
