[Q] Stock 2.3.3 Want Onecosmic's 4.3 - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I am not new to this rooting business i have successfully rooted my Sony X10 and Galaxy nexus.
My GF has a Samsung I9000M and after 6 hours of struggling i am still at stage one (what ever that is...)
Can i please get a step by step guide at how to do this?
I have Kies and Odin 1.82 installed.
I am running 2.3.3 with build GKG3
at this point i don't know how to get Root to install CWM to do a backup and flash my Zips.
Thank you for any help...

The simplest way is to flush a rooted Kernel over ODIN. For more details just google "Use Odin To Root Samsung Galaxy" there are tones of guides. Just be sure to flush the right kernel for your galaxy S

Yep, download a custom kernel. Download Odin, put the tar file in the PDA option. Put your phone in download mode, connect it to pc. When Odin detects your phone( yellow color), hit start and you are good.

do u want to know how to root or how to put ics??

i got 4.3 on my phone but signal was relay bad, i flasher gkg3 in odin under phone now i have no signal and no base band...

If I guess right, you got ICS on the i9000m and then flashed a kg3 modem with Odin?
For ICS you need to flash the kg3 modem for cm7 (even if it's onecosmic or teamhacksung) to get your signal back,
just flash this in CWM recovery and you should be good

well, that's what I did

This thread should give you the info you need.

Galaxy S wont boot

Hi guys,
i just got a Galaxy S (international, germany) and wanted to flash Clockwork Mod so i can flash a custom rom (miui). I got it with version 2.2 so i rooted it with z4root 1.3 and then tried RomManager to get CWM on it. But it did always reboot into Samsung stock recovery mode. So i tried this Odin3 1.7 and flashed a Kernel and got into a bootloop (First this one, then i used the one promoted in this video (YouTube Video, description XDA Thread with promoted Kernel. Phone now stuck at booting (isn`t even bootlooping, just stuck at the GALAXY S GT etc. logo. I still can reach the Download Mode.
Can anyone please help how to get at least the phone working again I`m really desperatly.
Greetings from Germany & Merry Christmas
Alch
Install a new Rom with odin will make your phone boot again.
2.2 is probably too old now.
Upgrade to Gingerbread Stock using Odin. Turn on Repartition and follow the instructions to flash.
Download a Custom Kernel for the Gingerbread firmware that you flashed. Every Kernel except the stock comes with CWM Recovery.
Copy the MIUI zip file to sdcard and flash it with recovery. It should boot right up.
If you are still having bootloops, try doing a factory reset and then boot MIUI.
Don't try things that you aren't experienced with.
Anyway, download odin 1.85, flash stock Froyo, launch Kies, update to official Gingerbread, launch Odin, flash Semaphore Kernel and GG.
Merry Christmas!
How can i flash Stock Froyo/Gingerbread trough Odin? Can`t find anything usefull @ google
btw i can reach Recovery Mode (CWM / Speedmonk something)
(Kinda experienced by flashing around with my N1 for around 2 years now, but never heard about this Odin Program)
thanks for help anyway

I am not going to help you with this one. You need to get comfortable with the forum and its contents first. Read all the guides and stickies before proceeding with Firmware flashing. There are many different types of firmwares with Bootloaders which are often dangerous to flash and few without bootloaders. Hence, first go through the guides and go with the flashing only when you are confident that you are doing everything in right order.

Just do what dhiru1602 says. after you flashed it with the latest Gingerbread ,
flash the cf-root kernel with odin . than download the latest galaxian/semaphore kernel, copy it to your internal sd-card and flash it with the app SGS Kernel Flasher . you can find that app on the market. good luck mate !
Thanks guys, u really saved christmas for me Just booted up the latest Miui Rom!
Happy Holidays

[Q] Need a kernel for my i9000 vibrant !

Hi,
I was trying to install cynogenmod 7.1 on my galaxy s vibrant i9000. My carrier is bell
Model Number GT-I9000M
Firmware Version 2.3.3
Baseband Version I9000UGKG3
Kernel Version 2.6.35.7-I9000UGKG3
[email protected]#2
build GINGERBREAD.GKG3
When I was trying to do go in recovery mode, backup Rom or change ROM with ROM manager, it went on the 3e recovery setup and was saying something about the whole-signature failed. I've read somewhere that this was due to the fact that my kernel was restricting something and that I needed to change my kernel with Odin in order to not being signature verifed anymore. So I picked up a kernel on a forum and tried to put it in my galaxy s in download mode with Odin and the PDA button while having the re-partition button unchecked.
After doing so, odin said that the operation failed and when I disconnected my phone, there was only a small icon showing a cellphone and a computer with a small triangle with a ! in it between the cellphone and the computer. In other words I messed things up and my sgs wont boot anymore.
Can someone give me a good kernel to put in my phone so it can reboot? Because I still can go in download mode!
I know, Im a total newbie...
Thanks
I assume that the ID:COM box in Odin went yellow before you pressed the Start button initially....
If not, that's your first problem that needs to be addressed, as you can't flash unless Odin can see your phone.
You can get a rooted kernel here.
If that doesn't get you up and running and you haven't downloaded UGKG3, go here and search for UGKG3 and download it.
omg, thank you sooooooo much! It worked!
Do you know a kernel that I could use to for my phone to accept custom ROMs ?
Glad that worked.
UGKG3 does not have a lot of support from the developer community, as it's a rather rare release with only a couple of carriers using it.
Semaphore and CF-Root seem to be the popular ones that include CWM.
Not sure which one you would use with UGKG3, as it's not well supported.

[Q] Major issues with the i9000 right now. Please Help.

Hey guys,
So recently I tried rooting my phone with CF-Root and Odin, and then it went into a boot loop of just the Galaxy S on startup.
I eventually found out about Heimdall and right now I'm running 2.2.1 Froyo with Build XWJSD.
Problem is, that the phone doesn't read the SD card? Like it will see the SD Card, scan it, and say it's finished scanning but then it won't let me access it either in CWM or through the Android UI itself.
Any ideas? I just want to get MIUI installed haha.
Well I just tested the SD card in another phone and it works fine. So it's definitely the software/rom I'm using now I think.
Is there anything I can do to make this work. Maybe like a completely stock 2.2.1, that is guaranteed to work haha? I just need this card to be read. Because even when I plug the phone and run Kies, Kies doesn't recognize the version of the firmware. And If I try to use superoneclick root, it also doesn't recognize the version of the firmware.
So right now I'm using 2.2.1 XWJSD, which stock rom should I install with odin or Heimdall to make this work?
Thanks a lot again.
Head over to this thread and download JVZ (Gingerbread 2.3.6), flash with Odin with re-partition checked, then head over to Chainfire's thread for CF-Root kernel for JVZ and flash that through Odin as well.
Forget about Kies since you'll no longer be using that to update firmware and whatnot.
CF-Root will come with CWM installed, so after you get that done, download MIUI and flash through CWM
Thanks a lot will try it out.
This CF-Root right? CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVZ-v4.3-CWM3RFS.zip
Unfortunately the phone is stuck in a bootloop now after installing 2.3.6 JVZ.
Did you make sure re-partition is checked? If it still bootloops after re-partition then try JVT or some other stock ROM and see if that boots up before applying the CF-Root kernel
Yeah I made sure re-partition is checked, and I installed it with the 512 pit file, unless I shouldn't be using the .pit?
your gona have to reflash the rom or install arom thats already rooted you could try darky 10.2 re or check out puggerduk on tube
Root Galaxy S i9000 and install a custom rom
Hey guys refer to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1451345
He's having the same issue, so just help us out there Thanks alot!

MIUI is running based on Android 2.3, I found the Android forum that helps me well enough to do my first flashing and rooting. Here is what you need to try to do:
1. Flash your i9000 with XXJVU 2.3.6 ( Value Pack ):
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/xxjvu/
2. Root your I9000 with CF-Root-XX OXA JVU 2.3.6-v4.3-CWM3RFS:
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/root-xxjvu-firmware/
Do everything on the post and you can install MIUI ROM from recovery straight away after that.
Hope this helps. If it does, please consider press 'THANKS' button

I flashed this rom (Simply Stock kk4) with the One-Click and it seems to have worked great. The one thing I noticed is that I have the kj3 modem. Was that intentional? If not, should I flash the kk4 modem? I live in the Chicago area and did a search for the best modem in my area, but I didn't really come up with anything.
Thanks for any help and for a great rom!

[Q] I have bricked my I9000?

Hi,
I have a I9000BVJP4 (FROYO.BVJS4) phone bought in 2011 from Orange in the UK. I was trying to root the bastard to get Jelly Bean on it. I coulddnàt get 4zroot to root it, neither Once Click root method (earlier would not reboot the phone and Titanium said it wasn't rooted anyway and the second just said "failed" when it got to the end of the process).
So I decided to use the CF root method. I downloaded the various cf kernels here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108 as I thought I needed to match the JS bit. So I tried JS3 which looped on intial screen the first time. JS5 and JS7 just hang on the first screen. Clearly I can get ODIN 3.07 to upload these kernels so I can get the phone to switch to download mode. THe problem is that it hangs and never boot.
I'm a bit of newbie with this stuff but I understand that as long as i can get into download mode I haven't bricked the beast. THe problem is that I donàt know how to out of this situation. I bet it's just a question of finding the right kernel and uploading with ODIN. Any suggestions? I presume the phone is still unrooted (or maybe not now that I have all these kernels uploaded through ODIN?)
Your help would be most appreciated.
Many thanks
Antonio

Mate,
cheers for this although the XXJVU ROM you suggested didn't work. I decided to give the XXJVT version a go which I downloaded from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881 and I tell you this rocks. I've finally got rotation working again and have got rid of all the crap that Orange installed.
Do you know if Jelly Bean works on the I9000 and how it performs? Is it worth installing on such an "old" device? BTW, I used the same pit file you attached. That did work. Thanks again.

No problem ever . yep, Jellybean works , infact it rocks ! . the stock gingerbread firmware is crap if compared with jellybean . I use cm 10.1 Android 4.2.2 makes my phone butter smooth doesn't matter its quite old though but works like a charm. did you root your phone ? using semaphore kernel ? you have to root it first to install jellybean for XXJVT , here's the link for the kernel :-
http://78.46.194.137/kernels/Semaphore_kernel_JVT_1.9.1.tar
flash it the way i told you , you have to select it in the PDA file option in Odin. hope it works for you now .
