[Q] GN sound quality decrease - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys
i just got a GN a few days ago, i used to have the s2...
i love music, and i like to hear it well.
i have a few high ends headphones and earphones.
on the s2 i had a nice flavour of sound, i could hear the treble and bass nicely.
now using the same headphone, same player, same equalizer (all the same settings as s2) treble and bass are a lot flatter and max volume isnt that high.
i tried this on stock rom and now Rocket
am i doing anything wrong? has anyone else noticed and quality change from these phones?

[Q] is there a way that can improve the sound quality of NC?

HI,
I read some comments regarding sound quality of NC. It seems that some guys who use CM7 complained about bad sound quality. Is this true??? I am now using the booted 1.1 version and find that sound quality is average but at least not bad. Compare to my another android cellphone Moto Defy, the sound quality of NC is poor.
Is there a way that can improve sound quality of NC?
Is the sound quality of CM7 really worse than the stock version???

Sound quality or volume? I hear about people complaining about the volume, but not quality. How's the quality with earphones? Is it just the speaker?
I always use my NC in a case when I'm watching a movie or playing music, as it GREATLY amplifies the volume. Quality I haven't noticed an issue with, but never really done any critical listening, always just background music.

Earphone is better than speaker.....regarding the speaker....I think the only way I can hear the sound from the speaker is to stay at home...
I am always listening music when I am reading via NC. I am not satisfied with the sound quality compared to my another android cellphone. So I think about a way to improve sound quality. I want to play lossless audio music like APE & FLAC on the NC but I dont know how.........
On cm7 u can use dsp manager, it can improve quality by a great extent( use speaker volume to adjust headphones volume too).
If it's volume of the NC that you're concerned about, use volume+ app from http://androidaudiohacks.com/home/volume-gingerbread
But if you mean the quality, then I'm equally clueless about what to do.

Sound Issue (Music player)

hey guys, i noticed a REALLY annoying thing when i was going through the EQ presets in stock music player. If i choose Bass Boost, then my headphones start to behave strangely, like they cant handle the sound, on every thump there is a crackle in the headphones. you could say that its my headphones fault, but wait, heres the best part, ALL of my 3 headphones do the same + my computer speakers.
only happens on Bass Boost preset. guys try to play some track with a heavy bass beat, test if you have the same.
maybe there is an issue with the sound chip, idk. not a real argument to return the phone lol..
i wouldnt mind this, but bass boost is the best sounding preset (virtual surround is cool too, but its a bit too flat for me)
thx. lol, this came out to be quite a post

Why is Bluetooth audio quality so bad?

Hello all, I just switched from a galaxy nexus running 4.0.4 to a Note running 2.3.6.
My Nexus had awesome bluetooth audio quality, almost to where it was the same as the cable. But my Note is just plain awful. Massive distortion on any kind of cymbal crash or high end sound. Just sounds compressed and distorted to hell.
I'm using a Samsung HS3000 which is BT 3.0 and is hooked up to my car stereo, and it sounded fantastic with the Nexus. I've searched and tried the fixes suggested such as disabling the phone profile in bluetooth options and just using the media profile but no difference.
Even my old galaxy s had better audio quality than this.
Anybody else have similar problems with bluetooth audio on the Note?
Do you know what ROM you are using with your Gingerbread Note? If you have got it from someone that has already rooted/upgraded it the sound problem could be due to Volume + or Voodoo Louder being loaded. I have used both of these apps and if you have the volume too high there is distortion, particularly with the first app - this is known and documented by the devs. Would recommend that you turn the volume down on your Note and use the BT to boost sound. I am using Sennheiser MM100 headphones - not brilliant but sound on them is good.

I'm using DarkyRom 3.4.1
I don't have volume+ installed so that shouldn't be the problem. The distortion is more likely a bluetooth compression related problem. Is this a common problem with the galaxy note?
Bluetooth audio on stock ROM is great...u must have issues either with the rom or hardware fault.
I got my Samsung Bluetooth headset and aside from the lower volume compared to plugin my stereo headsets to the phone as compared to plug in to the bluetooth unit, the quality is good to me.
Weird, I'm gonna flash a different GB rom and see if it helps.
Well I went from DarkyRom to Rocket to Check and all had the same crappy high end distortion not present in the Galaxy Nexus. I thought since both phones were Bluetooth 3.0 they should sound the same. Maybe it's because Samsung uses their own bluetooth stack while the nexus uses google's own?
If you listened to both side by side you would definitely be able to tell the Galaxy nexus has a much clearer overall better sound. While the note has a muddy distorted high-end.

Audio

Can someone comment on the music player audio quality and how it compares to viperaudio mod? If it is subpar, what music player are you using? I'm on verizon so viperaudio is not an option until/if we get root. Thanks in advance.

My experience so far has been good. Through the 3.5mm headphone jack it plays really well through my car stereo, nice dynamic sound with pretty low distortion. More base heavy than I would go for but definitely well rounded. The phone speaker itself I find a little distorted due to the big base but it depends on your style of music and volume levels. The volume goes quite high also.
I'm comparing this to my last phone which was the nexus 5, personally I felt the nexus 5 volume was too low and lacked any base and made it sound tinny because of it. Even with viper audio I was never satisfied with it. The Moto x on the other hand got a few smiles from me with how it handled some of my favorite tracks on my commute.
The last phone I can remember really enjoying my music on was the galaxy s1 international version with voodoo music mod. That was quite a while though and honestly can't remember it enough to compare. Still, maybe that gives you some indication to what I would be looking for audio wise
Im using Apollo for my music player and the sound is great. If u have upgraded to 5.0 theres a built in EQ under settings/sound where u can modify how it sounds thru headphones and front speakers.
That's also in 4.4

Huwaei P Smart Very Low Headphone Volume On Nearly All headphones

Hi really annoyed I joined id mobile got free handset Huwaei P smart but phone headphones cheap reasonable chinese headphone flat ribbon perfect but the other / Phillips/ and good iphone angular subwoofer tube ended style say 30 quid versions are too low like faint or in other apps bar huwaei music app are tinny and distant, but I cannot find now the chinese pair that work louder than whisper level volume level, even with huwaei music app equalizer on maximum volume and hz levels, maxed and bass maxed and/or 3d audio maxed seems to go faint whisper volume and tinny distant sound, it's on latest stock update 8.. something android and 3gb ram I belive, it's really way too quiet speaker output is fine if not bordering good reasonable loudness but headphones are almost inaudible, any ideas of a no root, way to fix this sound issue to use any headphones without problems? The huwaei headset is louder but no substance no bass or realism to the sound playing either, it's lacking something? Any advice would be helpfull especially a way without voiding warranty to get every heaphone set working, thanks in advance guys.
