S-off AlpharevX vs Revolutionary - HTC Incredible S

OK, I know it has been awhile and the Inc S has been out now. However I'm thinking of getting another one and I see that I have two options to gain s-off as of Jan 2012.
What are pros and cons of both exploits if there are any? Any preference?

revolutionary, of course, it's just upgrade of alpharevx

I guess just read the fine print for any compatibility issues, otherwise I would use revolutionary, as it's newer and kills two birds with one stone.

Guys. Some advice

I am thinking of getting this phone. Need some advice.
Does it look better from the desire s seen in pictures?
Does this phone have a locked bootloader?
If so, is this a dead end to devloping like miui?
what other problems does this phone have?

it is better than the desire s and from what I see the inc s and desire s both have locked bootloaders unless anyone else can shed further light.
well imho i would choose the IS for sure over the DS
screen is better, sound seems better, and lifetime also (for what ive heared)
the problems you mentioned im sorry i dont have em.. neither do i have the problems others have mentioned..
for s-off you could choose for a way like the xtc clip, or the cheaper variant thats comin soon, or wait till bin4ry found the right xploit for it....
root is no problem when the s-off is done
Will incredible s get cyanogen mod and miui even with the locked bootloader?

well ur a rom/team leader go make it
and erhm idk.... maybe....
just wait we still busy with all kinda stuff..
its great
I have an incredible S and hpnestly its a amazing device...i originally was gonna wait for the red version but its only a danish version being released...it is really a underrated device. Im pretty sure it will be rooted someday soon and i cant wait lol...I like this device better than the NEXUS S that i Had...but i cant wait for a cyanogen rom..
Read extensively on Incredible S and the comparison with DHD crops up naturally.
Nearly every review has stated the Screen and the Camera being the best on an HTC. (i know its SLCD but still very effective and pretty much the thing to use for internet browsing)
IS also seems to be having smaller footprint and a better battery life.
All these points seals the deal in favor of Incredible S.
Apart from Specs, the phone owner in my area been satisfied with the device.
Ragrarding the ROM support and the works.. only time will tell (hunch says that if htc's 'Locking' be of any hint.. then expect goodies in the future.)

BELL Incredible S or Atrix

i need to upgrade my htc legend with BELL and i have the choice of Atrix or the Incredible S from BELL. I'm torn between a stable HTC with Sense UI or future proof and more powerful phone with motoblur crap. I posted the question in the Atrix and now here to have both perspective.... i hope its ok
Coming previously from HTC Touch where i first experienced Windows Mobile computing, the ability of changing ROMS, then ported ANdroid ROMS which imo the best experience of them all with all the hacking/mod abilities...
So now my only criteria is the phone must be an Android phone... because it has such a large user based and hacking community in general...My current HTC Legend, is a great phone especially after the Froyo update, very responsive but its lacking the storage capcity...
This is why i'm changing my HTC Legend which is still stock ... i read about rooting it but it was a bit too complicated to root it without going through hoops and loops . So I didnt bother... and im running out of space
I've read a few reviews about incredible S and atrix... and although the atrix looks superior on paper... i wasnt impressed by the motoblur and the few videos i saw...
The Motorola Atrix hardware is futureproof but only if Motorola decide to release new upgrades to take advantage of the hardware... i heard some bad things that based on history, i shouldnt bet on getting upgrades... is this true? If i'm not getting the upgrades from Motorola, this is why i think the hacking community plays an important role to get the best out of this wonderful piece of hardware ( like the HTC Touch in its time ). Apart from the wonderful beedfed up hardware ... i havent seen anything good... in fact i saw a few threads about rebooting problems, issues...etc and bloatware , not being able to install non market apk and motoblur ( which i only saw in the 1st generation motorola blur in the android 1.5 phone cant recall the name of the phone)
The Incredible S seems to be a more stable phone and i personally like the SENSE UI and HTC in general. I havent seen a lot of negative reviews or problems. COming form the HTC family, i tend to trust it more than Motorola. The 8MP cam is a plus but the inability to root is sad... at least some dev are working on it ...
Does the success of rooting the IS depend on the popularity of the phone ? I have the impression its because we have a few experienced guru but not enough to crack it ... or is this ROM too hard to find any weakness...
I ask myself the same question about 2 weeks ago (aslo with bell) and decide to go with the HTC incredible S. Like oyu said the atrix loog good on paper but that's it. (well on what i read) I have my Incredible for not even a weeks now and i'm loving it. I,m very satisfied by... i would say evrey part of it. Did not have any problem, enjoying all the apps and still looking for new tricks.
I honestly tink that the s-off and root will come just in time.
I have faith in the XDA family, and eventually this phone will get cracked. Here in the States, Verizon has released the HTC Droid Incredible 2, so that should also spur more work to get the S-off and rooting going. Its only a matter of time, and many other HTCs have been rooted in the past.

How to S-ON?

Hi all
As I decided to sell the Incredible S I wondering is there any solution to gain S-ON, as I would like to revert it to 'standard' before selling.
I used revolutionary to get S-OFF.

since u used revolutionary s-off.. flash a signed htc ruu. that should revert it back to s-on.
Why do you decide to sell the incredible s? What device will you be using next? Just curious....

At the moment I have Desire and Incredible S. What is annoying me is the signal strength on Incredible S - cellular signal going down quite large when you grab phone, as the antenna is stupidly fitted at the bottom of the back cover. It can reduce signal strenght by 50% (for example from 54% to 23% just because i keep phone in my hand) which is unacceptable for me. Desire has not such an issue (compared with two phones side by side for long time and in different places, same network operator).
I notified many times, when I take Incredible S from my pocket there was no signal at all :/ which is never happened with Desire. This is why I decided to sell it...
Wifi signal is poorer on incredible S as well. This is not what I expected from the phone what cost over 300 quid.
I been thinking about Sensation, but as find out already there is even bigger issue - unresponsive screen and same problem with signal... I know no one phone is perfect, BUT phone what can't keep signal is just useless... Same about iphone4 - rubbish.
I don't know what I gonna buy next, as I don't like how the UI of Samsung Galaxy 2 looks like and there is no choice at the moment actually.. So I probably stay longer with Desire, which is great (s-off, rooted with MIUI), except camera quality...
tpbklake, thanks, I found it, miss it when I was looking for solution yestarday... For anyone who may look for it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15732727&postcount=14 It works.

It won't work, I checked that before I asked. Look into link above link, there is an explanation why hboot from RUU will not overwrite the one patched by revolution. That's why I needed to follow that solution.
Ok, fair enough... I also still have a Desire. Running insertcoin's rom on it right now. I do not really suffer from the bad reception of the Incredible S. It is less, but still sufficient. The only phone that matches these two HTC's is the Nexus S. I will wait for the next Nexus. Sure I will get that and will also keep the two HTC's.
I was able to S-ON the Incredible S with the RUU avaible here... Strange you can't. I just ran it and the device is all Stock again. I use the Desire for flashing and the Incredible S for daily stable use with the stock firmware..

Velocity s off

Hi all
Just a quick one I am running vjraider I know its rooted but the hboot says its s on. Is this normal? How to s off?
Sent from my HTC Raider 4G using XDA Premium App
you cannot get s off, this is why we need to flash the kernal seperate to the rom, nobody has achieved s-off yet
Ok.
Thanks for the quick reply.
I kinda figured that from reading on here, but its nice to have it confirmed.
I came from a DHD and that thing seemed easy to develop. Not that I can develop roms. But seemed like there were heaps of different ones and heaps of developers.
Sent from my HTC Raider 4G using XDA Premium App
This phone has had many stumbling blocks,
first it has 3 versions, the Vivid on at&t, and the Raider are pretty much identical but they have slighty differing hboots so the ICS release only works for the vivid on at&t, then there is the Velocity on Telstra in Australia which again is pretty much identical except there are slight changes to the CPU, its the same cpu, but the default clockspeed is 1.5Ghtz and the others have 1.2Ghtz... they are all technically the "HTC Holiday" but with slight differences.
Second, the bootloader was locked for a long time
Third we have no s-off
and fourth, a bunch of angry people chased all our devs off when they had some problems flashing some of the roms.
So yeah uphill battle It's getting better now though
That's a great summary of our Vivid forum lol. Its' still the best phone I've ever owned regardless of the lack of development compared to other phones.
yes i agree that is a very good summary of whats happened, i have only had mine for a week, that was when the bomb went off.
this is off topic but in all the rom threads I have read it clearly says what the risks are the fact that you are here and download these roms means you are ok with the consequences.
Its always rosy when they work.
Yeah, people just don't read and I have noticed become very self important like nothing is their fault and they are demanding everything.
I am always so damn cautious, I'm not going near ICS until Telstra release it
Did you see telstra released it today.

Speaking of idiots taking risks without understanding them first...
Is it safe to update ICS from Telstra with an unlocked phone? I don't know how to re-lock it

yes thats the fast boot command to re-lock you your bootloader , once done it will say "re-locked"

S-OFF

So i'm not very informed on what's going on here but, is there any dev that is working on getting the S-OFF for the One?
There are probably devs working on it behind the scenes but I'm not sure which devs have worked towards S-Off before.
mmmh maybe xmoo, who also worked on the One x... well, we'll see... however this is going to happen cause Qualcomm HTC devices have always been S-OFFed
I did hear from someone that codeworkx would be working towards it when he gets the One but no idea how true that is.
I know he's a great dev but I don't think he's ever delved into anything like this before.
yeah, pretty hard stuff, but someone will succeed in it
S-OFF can only be done by reverse engineering hboot needs to be disassembled into ASM to crack it so it's pretty hard work. I myself has proper knowledge but I don't wanna take a risk as this could permanently brick a device. To think that it's pretty hard getting this device internationally.
Sent from my myTouch 4G Slide using xda app-developers app
S-off was achieved for Evo LTE and one X and one x + using facepalm and other methods by team unlimited. I would think you guys will get it before long.

I echo that......it shouldn't be too long as it's a Qualcomm device. However you have to bear in mind that not too many people have the device yet, we're the lucky ones!
Also, I wouldn't actually get my hopes up with xmoo - previous experience with my HOX tells me that....
