[Q] How to install ROM and which one (S-OFF) - HTC Incredible S

Hi
My phone has S-OFF
(H-BOOT 1.13.000, VIVO PVT SHIP S-OFF RL, RADIO 3805.04.03.27_M)
I want to clean install ROM with 2.3.5.
Is there an english vanilla version without any carrier software? If yes, where can i download it
Should i install vanilla version or custom ROM (e.g. Android Revolution HD - which seems to be 2.3.3) - I want to avoid any of that mobile service provider stuff.
what are the actuall steps now that i have S-OFF
1. Download ROM and put in the root folder
2. Restart with Vol+
3. Select Recovery
4. Done
is this correct?
Thanks a lot for your help

I suggest you do a lot more reading. Have a look in the dev forum, read some user feedback and read a guide on how to install a custom rom because from the looks of things you haven't a clue.

The sticky at the top by lynt Is a good topic. Tells you how to flash rom's etc. I found it useful anyway.

As user 'nonverbose' has stated, you need to do a little more reading and research. You mentioned that you have S-OFF, but you didn't state whether you have installed a custom recovery or not. That piece is critical to being able to flash the custom, rooted ROMs for the IncS.
You would be wise to read the 'sticky' posts both here in the General section as well as the Development section where you will find the ROMs.
Finally when you read the sticky posts in the Development section, one of the posts has links to all of the different ROMs, including a rooted, unbranded, stock version of Android 2.3.5/Sense 3.0

As for ROMs, I would go with a custom one. You don't have to worry about carrier software as most of the ROMs have them removed already and have some cool optimizations.

Thanks everyone. I was doing some more reading and i guess these are the next steps
1. Install clockwork mode
2. flash with a ROM
I am thinking of installing one of these
SenseMOD Lite V2.1 [RCMix kernel]
RunnyDrOiD v3.0 By PVTEAM | Ultrafast & Smooth | 2.3.5 | Sense 3.5
CoreDroid Incredible S V2.2 |GB 2.3.5|SENSE 3.5|SUPER SMOOTH|ONLINE!
any reccomendations/suggestions?

Tbh if your not to sure on what/how your doing things you could always try CyanogenMod 7.1. Its simple nothing needs to be done to it.
But on the other choices its all down to personal preference. Like I want to flash ARHD... but I just can't be bothered.

I used this guide to root my phone. Without single issue. I recommend Virtuous affinity if you want sense 3.5 rom.

[Q] New to the Velocity/Vivid

Hey guys,
I just got the HTC Velocity (coming from HTC Wildfire) and despite reading stickies and various other threads, I have a few questions:
1. With ICS available on the velocity, and there being two(?) CM9 mods being work on, is there any official support of CM9 on the device?
2. Why are there/what are the major differences between the two CM9 variations.
3. With the CM9 roms, what would the probable effects be for installing vivid roms for the velocity device (in particular the radio)
Thanks for any help anyone is able to provide.

1. CM9 is still in beta, unless you want to test it out it is best to stay away for now.
2. Not sure about two variations. Only have seen one being worked on actively.
3. S-Off is being worked on at the moment but not ready yet. You can't flash radios so if the rom is att based, you don't want to mess with it.

What's the purpose of S-OFF if the bootloader is unlocked; is that for flashing the radio?
Further, does that imply CM9 developed for the Vivid won't be appropriate for the velocity (they use different bands)?
You have to have s off to flash a radio. I am not familiar enough with cm9 to tell you if you need to flash a radio but like I said it is not an official release so I wouldn't do anything with it.

[Q] Leedroid Tweak... flash on stock ics rom?

me again, and another noob question.
I been going through a few threads and I keep seeing this Leedroid Tweaks thinngy being mentioned. I accidentally came across a video with it running on a vivid, and omg instant eyegasm. But I have noticed that it was on a custom Rom.
So noob me is wondering if Leedroid Tweaks can be flashed on to my phone:
Stock at&t ics ruu, rooted, bootloader unlocked, wcx recovery, s-on.
If it is possible, please state how do I go I about doing it ( if not just pass me a roll of tissue to wipe away my tears).
thanks in advance.
hello...

Honestly I"m not sure. I wish I could help you more, but I'm using it on a custom rom, Holics to be exact.

Same here. I could be wrong but I think you have to have a custom rom.
I know it at least has to be deodexed...
Also... Some tweaks require other modded apks... Like the rosie...
Just use one of the sense based custom roms...

I hate this part ... Choosing a Rom (& kernel)...
the worst part is that; the only internet that I have now is the wifi on the phone, so I if I run a flash and it fails I'm in trouble even of the Rom flashes ok but the no WiFi issue ( which some ppl have had)....I'm still doomed... , wudnt even be able to relock the bootloader.
{Scratching head} ...[darn u no cm9 for vivid]... God which Rom to get now..., I don't even know which kernel to begin with....

so your first(and prob best bet for stock) is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583028 [STOCK ROM] AT&T ICS, de-odexed, zip-aligned, rooted, bloated (For chefs or whoever)
and then since its De-Odexed you can flash http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1555539 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1559153 for a better power menu and a EQS

Thanks.
(I always wondered what APM meant,)...
So...
1) Flash to the stock deoxed Rom... Or should I flash the kernel first ?
2) when flashing the kernel can I use hasoon all in one tool kit to flash ?
3) which kernel do you suggest for my specific case... Since one was not suggested... (Wondering about holic since its already apart of the hasnoon all in one tool ?)
4) sight... I see the APM link (thanks again)... How ( if possible) do I get Leedroid tweaks ?
....thanks for putting up with my noobossity ( or is it noobaceousness).

just saw the link for the custom EQS, :
What does eqs mean and from what I gather it basically will negate the need for Leedroid ?
Eqs is extended quick settings and to get leedroid tweaks to work you need to port it over to the Rom you are going to use or install a Rom that already has it or something similar like wcx illuminate ,dark raider or holics that are based on stock vivid roms. elegancia is a port from the sensation and it has leedroid tweaks

honestly enless your gonna S-Off which you should do alot of looking up because it can really **** your device if done wrong you just pull the Stock boot.img from the stock att rom i linked to and flash that. you go into bootloader by pulling battery, put in back in and hold vol down and power till you get the bootloader then use the fastboot tool i linked to and install the kernal then after you do that your bootloader has an option to boot into recovery you pick that flash the stock att ics rom i included and go on your merry way.
the big problem is alot of the more advance kernals (holics, faux, or even kangbanged) you need S-Off to flash them or you need to do alot of reading to flash them so stock kernal is usually your best bet
BIGEDIT: or as the pervious post said download and try out Holics(my personal DD) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1585373 or try ELEGANCIA http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797035 THO Holics is more like stock ATT ICS
You don't need s off for most kernels you just can't flash them through recovery. I'm s on and I switched kernels all the time.

So I'm taking mine back to the stock AT&T dedoxed rooted rom. I'm going to make a few tweaks and call it a day. I was wondering about the dialer. I'm killing off visual voicemail when I debloat it, and I hate that stupid button on the dialer. Is their a stock holiday dialer I could use that wouldn't have that wretched button? What about the Holics dialer, would it work?

*/For those of you that would like to try the latest official HTC stock ICS 4.04/Sense 3.6 ROM without the hassle of losing S-OFF by upgrading to HTC HBOOT 2.02.0002, I present to you:
vivo_signed_WWE_4.14.405.2_ICS_SENSE36_1.zip Version 1.0 (Requires BlackRose 2.02.0002)
Update 10/07/2012 : Introducing Version 2.0.
vivo_signed_WWE_4.14.405.2_ICS_SENSE36_4.zip Version 2.0 (No longer requires BlackRose 2.02.0002)
This is made with dsixda and his kitchen and based on the latest official from HTCRUU_VIVO_ICS_35_S_HTC_WWE_4.14.405.2 that is now available at HTDEV.com.
Version 1.0 (Original version 9/27/2012)
This ROM requires that you upgrade Revolutionary HBOOT 6.13.to BlackRose 2.02.0002 because of space issues with the ICS /system partition.
It does not require HTC HBOOT 2.02.0002 like the official RUU/ROM.zip does, which means you can keep hboot S-OFF.
Information about upgrade Revolutionary HBOOT 6.13 to BlackRose 2.02.0002 can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1509236
If you guys have problem installing blackrose, you can always try to do another method (thanks to Nonverbose) here post #13: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26909973&postcount=13 (thanks for that tip zukri90)
If you have a HTC Unlocked bootloader 2.02.0002 and a custom recovery installed, you may also flash this ROM, but you will probably have to flash the boot.img manually like any custom ROM.
Based on user feedback, a full wipe/system reset, wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache is required for best results.
This build has been tested with BlackRose 2.02.0002 and the latest version of 4EXT Touch recovery.

Sorry for the confusion. I have changed the Title. This is a new build based on the latest ICS RUU 4.14.405.2 that is now available on the HTCDEV.com download site.
The RUU itself had a new HBOOT version 2.03 and a new radio. As for the ROM, the version number has changed, but I personally haven't found anything new. It is still ICS 4.04 and Sense 3.6, so there may be some bug fixes.
I posted the a link to the new radio on the Radio sticky thread for those that are interested.
I am also running l0st.prophet's XS-ICS 2.2 kernel with this build.

1. Yes, flash this in recovery mode.
2. If you want to upgrade the radio, you need to flash it separately.
3. Yes, the XS-ICS kernel is a separate flash. This ROM has the standard HTC kernel.
4. I've never tried nik's 4.1.

I dont think it smooth like project x but you can use v6 supercharged or almost project butter ...i use almost Project butter on stock rom and can feel the different..i will try later when i get home...
What HTC-Kernel Version is used? And has anyone faced the Keyboard-Touchbug (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1783320)?
My battery life has increase after flashing this ROM and latest radio
Hi Friend,
Thanks for this rom.
Earlier i was on Nik project 4.1 at least for a month. Although it was very smooth but my battery life got shortened drastically. I was thinking my phone will not last 6 months. But after flashing this ROM, i believe I can live with this for a longer period of time. I have flashed latest radio and the XS IC 2.2 kernel and I am loving it.
Reception is good.
Thanks again for this ROM. Now I know whom to contact in future for getting information about the ROMs.
What's new in this ROM?
Any changes?
I haven't installed this rom yet but as per earlier comments, there is not much new in this. possibly just some bug fixes. probably the ussd wipe bug also.
Please check and let us know.

Kudos to you for being interested in rooting :good:
Shiromaru already answered the question here but why would you choose to remain on STOCK??? In the Android Development Thread of the HTC Incredible S, we have a TON of ROMs for use. They can be ICS with Sense 3.6. There can be AOSP or AOKP ICS. Theres Sense 4.X with ICS. Theres AOSP Jellybean 4.1.1 to 4.2.2. Theres really a lot to try. If you want to keep the (****y (excuse my language)) Sense 3.6 then u can try ARHD which is very stable. Theres also Blackout ROM and Incredible Bliss. If you want Sense 4.X you can try Nik_Project_X_Rebirth or Sabsa Prime. All of these ROMs have been modified to improve youre over all experience on the phone. I really would suggest you flash a custom ROM.

Try niks Rom v3.0 it works fine for me,good battery life + super fast performance with lil overclock

Rooting via htcdev will not give you s_off. That means every time you install a custom Rom you have manually flash the boot image using a utility called fastboot. And you can't change radios either. However for an initial root experience go right ahead with htcdev method and once you are comfortable you may follow guides in how to downgrade and then get root and soff using the revolutionary method. You may then also want to change your bootloader.
If you are going to root your phone then it makes no sense (pun intended) to remain with stock Rom. And as listed here in earlier post there are a plethora of roms to choose from.
Welcome to the joys of the android world.

[q] best rom for sensation xl?

Hello everyone, my name is Manuel and I'm Italian (so excuse my bad english)
I am an unhappy owner of a HTC Sensation XL, unhappy because since I bought it, it's really never worked, despite having been in reparation for 4-5 times.
I have two questions then:
What is today, the most stable, lighter and faster ROM for this smartphone?
I had ICS 4.0.3 with Sense 3.6 and it worked decently, then I have flashed the recovery (TWRP before CWM after, because TWRP would not turn off) and I installed 4.0.3 no sense v1.1, Pac-Man,Tik-Tak and RunnyKitKat v17, with none of them worked properly, especially, poor pictures, frequent crashes and wifi that does not function.
My second question is:
If I wanted to restore the original OS that is ICS 4.0.3, is it possible? He was the one that worked best.
Where could I find my ICS ROM STOCK?
P.S.: Of course, for best ROM, I mean I need lighter but that it works everything we need, without having great things because I know that it has very limited hardware.
Thank You
"Best ROM" threads are not allowed in XDA as it tends to start a series of opinion-based rants. The advice is always to try ROMs for yourself as only you can determine what is "good" or "bad" and so on...
However, in the interests of allowing others to help, I'll leave this open. If it deteriorates, then it will be closed.
Thanks
I think you should check sticky thread in android development are.
RUU word suggest htc ROM which are original.
Download, relock your phone, start fastboot, and easily install downloaded specific RUU.
Device will restart and done.
About best ROM;
I hace used multiple ROMs but finally i uses runny kitkat with blinkfeed and xposed framework module.
I didnt found any bug till today(approx 2month use)
I think it will be helpful.

Btw i dont have s-off, same as you, s-off is not necessory..
Download XLmultitool kit and do as screen shows , ( s-off)
Other option for s-off is farjadb software for it.
And runny kitkat does not have any remarkable bug yet. And wifi issue is/was/will be not there.. So feel free and enjoy it.
For xposed module, search for xpised in xda, and download gravity box and you will get even more customization which is provided in ROM inbuilt.
More advanced Sensation XL u will get.

Press Thanks if you like it.
to be honest theres issues with all roms for this device,
with sense there was issues with bluetooth and audio
with aosp there was various nuances, i tried my best to fix what i could.
not any one person will have the same opinion on this matter as it depends per person.
runy kitkat when i stopped building it was pretty much stable,
there is no tik-tak rom im aware of though...
