G1 T-mobile USA - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got this model with the stock rom RC29, and every time and turn on he ask me for google account but i cannot connect because for some reason doesn't show me wifi settings.
What can i do, i want a installed custom rom for this but all the steps of several cr ask me to download someting from te market or at least enter the menu of the G1 which i cannot do as i explain.
Salu2

you can
1. borrow a sim card from someone who has a tmobile data plan, sign in with that sim card and then swap it with yours.
2. follow steps to turn on wifi via adb. not to complected but you will need a bit of know how. (if you choose this step just search for the method in the forums)

i think i broke my phone :( help needed

hi all
i thought i would attempt to flash my samsung s with the new beta froyo update.
i followed this guys tutorial.
( cant link to it sorry its the noobs guide with detailed instructions through kies and odin)
i used the odin approach
i managed to root the phone.
on reboot it asked for an unlock code (o2 uk) so i went on to try and follow the steps about unlocking it. which neither worked all the way through the steps.
on reboot it appears to have signal and in the about section it says i am onnected to the o2 network but when i try to make a call is says "data network not available with an ok button, which when pressed will return you to the ome screen.
any help would be greatly appreciated thanks
Almost the same problem,
installed 2.2 update successfully, the phone worked for like 3-4 days very well and after that today i discovered "Emergency calls only"
so the question now is did i bought phone which later was reported stolen? or somehow i broke it?
Anyone have any idea?
hmmm, I have the same problem! In the status menu, the number is shown, but the network, says "unknown"
Hi! I have this exact same problem except I was unlocking my phone using this tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=906255
But I didn't back up my Efs folder, now my phone is unlocked but when I put a sim card in it I have very little network and when I try to make a call I get " NO DATA NETWORK AVAILABLE".
I've tried everything but I don't know what to do!
I was thinking of two ways to fix it:
1. Reinstall froyo (not quite sure how using the samsung software as my laptop oesn't recognised the phone as a pone)
2. Downgrade to, get unlock code using market app and then upgrade to froyo again.
I know I messed up but now I really need to fix this.
Can someone PLEASE PLEASE help me out.

might need to change the modem in odin i think. just heard about it
did u try restarting the phone... just a wild guess...
I had the same issue before and was puzzled. Its actually a very simple solution:
1. Re-lock your phone, search through xda there is a code you have to enter
2. Unlock your phone
All done! Surprisingly easy
Try the Odin method in block 2 back to Eclair if ok then upgrade to Froyo .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818556
However your non connection might be due to not flashing a firmware with your network settings in which case manual settings of APN .
If your IMEI has changed due to flashing and you did not back up your EFS folder then little hope but do a google / search of XDA as some have reported success .

Emergency calls only
I had a custom rom that was giving that to me too. I think it means that you can access a network different from your sim (because usually emerg calls can be made from any phone I think?).
I'd try and find a rom that is optimized for your carrier or at least a modem file from a stock rom that is for your carrier. You may also need to reselect the APN settings (or enter them for your carrier). Its under settings/wireless and network/Mobile networks/access point names (use the menu button to add an APN).
you could also try re downloading and flashing the rom to make sure that is the issue. Mine said it installed OK but never booted up, redownloaded and reflashed and then it was fine but the install screens looked identical.

Hi! Thank you so much for everyone's replies!
My IMEI isn't changed and someone helped me check my efs files and they are all ok. I'm going to try and reflash froyo through the samsung software to see if the network lock comes back and then try to unlock again. For this I'm going to unroot the phone and follow samsungs' instructions.
I'm afraid to relock the phone as there are reports that say it completely messes everything up!
But I'll keep you guys posted! Wish me luck!!!!
PS. Any other suggestions are more than welcome!
So, a quick update on my situation.
I uninstalled busybox and unrooted my phone using the oneclick root tool.
Did a factory format and, surprise surprise, my phone now works perfectly!
Apart from the fact that it doesn't connect to kies, but that's a whole another issue!
Tank you so much to all of you who answered my cry for help!

Possible to root/flash/sim unlock G1 without active SIM?

Recently got a G1 off a friend as tempory fix until my replacement X10 arrives.
Phone is currently locked to T-Mobile and I don't have an active T-Mobile sim card.
I've been following the guides on rooting it but I've ground to a halt.
I've flashed the ROM back to the earlier T-Mobile ROM (i.e. before the exploit was patched) as per the guide, but now, because the sim card in the phone isn't active, I can't log in to my google account to get onto the actual handset.
Any possible work around for thid?
Before I flashed it, the ROM that was originally on it allowed me to skip this login step and connect via my Wi-Fi.
I hope you do know, unlocking and rooting are two different things.
Yes.. hence I listed flashing, rooting and sim unlocking as 3 seperate proceedures.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=452316 should help you
Although if you sim-unlock it (since you're not a T-mobile customer you would have to buy a code from numerous ebay/craigslist sellers) you could just use your simcard to go through activation (look in the big APN thread for your settings)
That thread is big help, thanks!
Still stuck though, I've got DroidExplorer and all the other software needed installed, however I need to get USB debugging enabled on the phone.
I cannot do this without gaining access to the phone itself.
Going round in circles here!

Unlock U.S. Cellular Version of TP2 with HSPL, Sprint Stock ROM, & MightyROM

I have created two videos showing how the U.S. Cellular Version of the HTC Touch Pro 2 can be unlocked for Free using OliPro's HSPL unlocker. The videos are approximately 30 minutes in length so you may want to also/either read instructions below. I was not able to get the Unlocker to work with my phone so I discovered the/this following method:
Download and install Olipro HSPL Unlocker. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=578660
Download and install a stock Signed ROM from another carrier. I used Sprint version with the 1.96.00WF Radio (Check file name). The others are untested. You must install the Sprint Stock ROM With the Radio in order to change your radio. If you try to install the radio by itself from another link then your phone will be bricked into bootloader/tricolor and won't exit from that screen/menu until you reinstall the ROM, so you will need to install another carriers signed ROM it no matter what as far as I know in order to get a different Radio Version. My Radio Version from Stock U.S. Cellular was 2.18WV.
Download and install Mighty ROM. Make Sure you are in GSM Mode in Settings>Comm Manager>Phone>Networks Tab/Button. You Should now register to your SIM card's network.
You may also want/need to run:
Provision App.
&
XDA UC App.
Follow the instruction in the App. Make sure you click cancel when the restart option comes up after you provision because before you restart you need to run XDA UC. Make sure you have an internet connection to your phone. You can reverse tether with windows mobile device center if you don't have 3g and use the computers wired LAN if you neither have bluetooth or WIFI. Once XDA UC completes it will ask for restart. Can restart now.

Legal requirement now to unlock?
Does not the new bill recently signed into law by the Prez now require carriers to unlock their phones? I am looking at some TP Pro 2's on eBay from Sprint/Verizon that should be eligible for this (not under contract) under this new law as I understand it. Thinking I could have that done, and put my T-Mobile SIM in the phone to use on their network.

help need it

hi everyone, well I'll go straight to the point. I have a galaxy ace and want to upgrade to cm9 (beta 9), i did it, is amazing, finally camera works (don't mind preview and laggynes) but the only think it gives me headache is how to restore data connection (apn), i tried doing using apn restore & backup app like always did, but it says failed cause something i don't understand, don't know which post gives some solution but i miss the line, plz i need help and if it is possible a step by step guide to restore data connection thanks in advance...
New APN is created when you insert the SIM and switch on your phone. Atleast that is what happens in my phone. Check in Settings->More(under wireless & networks)->Mobile networks->Access point names
so, do you suggested that i have to flash it without the sim card, switch off the phone, insert the sim and then switch on, am i right? and the apn will generated automatically?...

Please help! Flashing AT&T N960U firmware on N960U1 device with Android 10

Hi guys,
I have a question about obtaining Android 10 AT&T firmware for the SM-960U. I'm currently having an issue where I bought the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 N960U1 factory unlocked from Samsung themselves. My current carrier is AT&T. However, I've realized for a while that my area doesn't have a good signal (1 bar to no service) due to the location where I am. I am trying to install AT&T's firmware with the boot logo and its software's bloatware to obtain Wi-Fi calling. However, I am having trouble. Currently, I've flashed my N960U1 with AT&T's U1 Android 10 firmware from the site using Odin. I see that it's been flashed successfully after doing a clean install and see AT&T firmware in the phone. However, it did not give me an AT&T boot logo screen or give me the Wi-Fi calling option. This is carrier unbranded. It's still the same like it's from the factory unlock no carrier firmware. So, after doing some research, I see that what I have to do is: clean flash AT&T's U1 firmware on the device (which I did), then, finally, install the U firmware to bring on the AT&T boot logo screen and WiFi calling. However, I am unable to do the 2nd part, because the only available firmware for U firmware (AT&T's bloatware) is Android 8. Due to the bootloader being version 4 in Android 10 and version 2 in android 8, I cannot downgrade even on a cracked Odin version. The phone gives me a SW REV error and odin gives me a write error. I worked on this for 8 hours, don't try to fight me on this lol. This is because Odin understands that the phone can't be downgraded due to the bootloader version being higher. This can be seen in the firmware names when comparing (Android 8: N960USQU1ARG6. Android 10: N960U1UES4DTD1).
In summary, I need to find the SM-960U AT&T carrier-branded Android 10 firmware. Right now, on Sam Mobile for N960U, the only firmware that comes up is Android 8. Downloading the latest firmware for the SM-N960U1 on Sam Mobile doesn't help me obtain wifi calling and the AT&T boot logo. Any suggestions? I really need help and appreciate it if you guys could help me. I can't find AT&T's U anywhere. Thanks!
You can flash any U firmware they are the same. As long as you have At&t sim it will provision to your sim. Since you are U1 you will need to do factory reset before flashing with Odin. You can use USC..Tmobile..Verizon. Dont use User data when flashing just use BL..AP..CP..CSC. At&t doesnt post their locked firmware for whatever reason.

Hi guys! After 18 straight hours of fiddling and researching, not getting a definite answer from XDA and Sammobile forums since my phone was on the latest bootloader v4: I've finally been able to find out how to do this, thanks to butchieboy and a culmination other forums, I've finally been able to successfully figure this out!
Basically, here are the steps to successfully do it if you're on Android 10/bootloader v4 and want to make the switch without downgrading the software on a lower bootloader. Make sure you do a clean reinstall beforehand. Everything should be off the phone.
1. Download and flash U1 firmware from samfw as a clean install. I used ATT's U1 firmware (follow the instructions below to do so). I did this first and was confused about why I didn't get the bloatware after. However, this is only the first step.
2. I found the latest firmware from Verizon for the SM-960U (not U1), and downloaded patched Odin 3.13.1b onto my computer. I downloaded these both from samfw's website. You'll need the patched version to be able to switch from U1 to U firmware. I used Verizon's instead of T-Mobile's because they had posted the latest version for Android 10.
3. Run Odin as admin, make sure you're using a computer with open USB ports for data transfer (one of my computers gave me an error, switched to another one, it worked fine). Make sure you use a good data transfer cable also.
4. Enable USB debugging on the device, and reboot the phone into recovery mode. Don't connect it to the computer yet. Do not remove the SIM card during any part of this process. Leave it inserted the entire time.
4. Load up BL..AP..CP..CSC as butchieboy states. Do not use home_csc and do not use userdata. They are not needed. CSC needs to be used because it has to be a clean install in order for this to work properly. By not using userdata, the device will load up the appropriate carrier bloatware automatically using the SIM card provided!
5. Go ahead and connect the phone via a data transfer cable. You will see a serial COM port labeled in blue connected on top. Now flash Verizon's U firmware
6. The phone should successfully flash via Odin, and it will reboot
7. I had gotten into this weird recovery state at first when it rebooted. I forgot the error name on the bottom and was confused at first it was SW REV or something I think. However, I think the reason for this is because the phone doesn't know which carrier setting to apply just yet. There were options to reboot, update from SD card, and more.
8. Select "reboot" using the power button!
9. You'll see the AT&T logo as the phone reboots! Not sure why my phone didn't end up erasing, it just apparently did an update.
The first thing I see after the apps loaded was... the WiFi calling setup screen... Victory! Thanks to everybody who posted on online forums. And thanks to butchieboy for the straightforward answer. I hope this helps anybody online looking to do the same thing whether it's their Note 9 or any other device. Good luck!

I am really glad I found your post and I'm going to attempt this same procedure today. Quick question, does it matter if / when your SIM is inserted into the phone? Just wondering if I need to leave it in or out during this process or whether that will even have an affect? Is your Wi-Fi calling still working currently, btw?

Hey Carl! Sorry for the late response. I'm glad you found my post as well!
I apologize for this, I should've mentioned this in my original post: please leave the AT&T SIM card inserted in the device the entire time during this process! When the phone reboots after Odin flashes, the first thing it searches for is what SIM is inserted so it can flash the appropriate carrier setting. Do not remove the SIM during any part of the process from start to finish.
Secondly, yes! The WiFi calling feature is working great on the phone. I'm glad after two years of having the phone I was able to get the feature this month. Good luck. Please let me know if you were successful in flashing the firmware, I'd really like to hear your results! My notifications are turned back on for this thread.

If you are trying to flash T-Mobile or AT&T bloat ware without a carrier SIM card, it will not work.
Hi. What if I have an AT&T sim card, but I'm also outside US. Not sure if the sim card is active or not.
My biggest worry was, I just had my phone factory unlocked so I can use a local sim card here in the country.
Will this work? And if it will, will my phone go back to being locked by AT&T?
Hi, I tried this process the way you have it listed and it is not working. I keep getting a device info error in Odin. Tried the newest firmware and an older version

right at the beginning using odin it threw me an error, but it's probably because I used CSC home ...? How can I verify on Samsung Note 9 if I have an unlocked bootloader ..?
Edit: He used CSC not CSC home and an older version of odin. And I have a sim from Europe and it works great.
I need help, i have a sm n960u factory unlocked at&t branded using straight talk at&t sim. I have no volte or wifi calling settings. With special code they are greyed out and provisioned. Is there any way i can fix this issue?
