Fastest and most stable rom?

Been looking around and asking around a lot and most people say that and odexed ota rom (with oc) is fastest. What do you think?
I use kgp nexroid 6.1 oc 1190mhz and that's fast as hell, imho.

Anybody not on the Latest CM7 Kang is simply insane imo. You hear people with various devices, reporting different levels of success with Cyanogenmod ROMS. That may be true, there may be devices that didn't 'take' so well with that particular Custom ROM!
If there's ever been a device that does enjoy a CM ROM, it's the Nexus One. It's a marriage made in heaven! From day one of owning this phone i had nothing but problems on 'Stock' ROMS. Coming from a Windows Mobile phone, it made my first impressions of Android less than stellar, i can tell you!
I jumped aboard the Cyanogen train the second the CM7 Nightlies began. I've flashed almost every single Nightly since then, without having to once wipe 'Data', without any major issues.. and after at least a hundred Nightlies flashed since then my N1 is as good as anyone could hope it would be!
You couldn't pay me to part with my N1 for anything else on the market right now. You couldn't force me, for love nor money, to use a Galaxy Nexus, or any ICS build right now!
As long as the hardware holds up, i'll be using this phone for years to come. With any luck they'll have to pry it from my cold, dead fingers!

Yeah, but isn't ch33kybutts OxygeN1mod a bit more stable and faster, being essentially the same as CM7? I know its AOSP, but a lot of CM7 things are integrated in that ROM. You should consider trying that out.

I didn't even want this phone that much. I simply bought it as I couldn't afford anything better. This does the job well, though I would not say no to a newer and better device.
The other day, I flashed MIUI, and I have made a decision. I will never return to Cyanogenmod 7 again, ever. I simply love the fastness and smoothness of the latest MIUI. Though, I will easily give MIUI up when there's a good-for-everyday-use CM9/ICS ROM out there.

ICS is highly overrated. Had a chance to play with it today, and besides HW acceleration which can't be a bad thing, all the visual changes were as much to my dislike as Gingerbread was. Never got used to those (having Sense 3 on my MT4G, don't need to).
In any case, there's some assumption that stock ROM runs faster, because it's odexed (which means, that the odex files are already there and don't need to be re-created). This is only true for the first run, for the rest it doesn't matter - it only saves space, not having to have all the odexed files on /data.

Your point being?
I won't go to a stock rom as I find custom roms the way to go. I run MIUI and I love it very much. A beautiful and fast rom (I use the fresh on fridays MIUI on miui.us and not that other one)

This is the other point I was trying to make, ICS might not be worth enough to give up MIUI for it.

I don't even know what difference odexed and not does as I don't even know the meaning of the word. Secondly, my phone was sent to me pre-flashed with CM7.1.0 stable so I have never used stock software with this phone

I think you're right. I've seen videos of what ICS looks like and to me it looks like it's way overhyped. I really like MIUI and what it looks and feels like and to me it's fast and does what I want and gets me through a day's use with the current overclock.
I just want a rom that I can live with, that's fast and smooth. To this date, I haven't found a rom to do just that except MIUI.

Well, I'm an x8 user, I'm gonna change the phone in some months and wanna ask if i really should buy this device
I know too much about roms cuz well I'm developing one
I wanna ask you guys, should i use it in stock and then wait for official ics or stock roms suck?
Does this phone really need all the stuff to work smooth? I mean custom kernel, rom etc because well its dualcore phone and looks that in some post i read, my phone works better

It's an awesome phone with cm7

well the stock rom it's not the best out there obviously... blatware apps, poor kernel make it a bad choice if you have alternatives.
for me, the best one is CM7, even better with a custom kernel like the Etana one. lots of tweaks and optimizations if you know what i mean

Hi leroy.
I will give you my personal unbiased opinion about it.
I bought the phone and it came with stock froyo (android 2.2). And I thought it was fine. I could play games with no problems at all. Didn't experience any of the problems that lots of people were complaining about (SoD, bad battery life, etc). I "test-drove" it for three weeks more or less, just to make sure everything was working fine, and it was.
And then I flashed temasek's latest kang and vadonka's latest kernel. And I do not regret it one bit. The phone is smoother, more responsive, and battery life is better by at least 25%. Unfortunately I did not do a quadrant benchmark before flashing, so I don't have a before and after comparison, but the phone "feels" much better, no doubts about it.

Thanks looks like a big change from phone to phone but i guess stock will be enough for a while, it will be a perfect phone and i will try development after using it for a while

I tend to believe that what differs from phone to phone is the "bloatware" that carrier dependent phones have installed. I bought an unbranded phone, so I am guessing that is the main reason why I was such a happy customer to begin with, even with stock ROM. A stock unbranded ROM, I might add.

My definition of "bloatware" is basically crap software that your carrier (for example vodafone or movistar or whatever) preloads in your branded phone (phone sim locked to your carrier). This software is usually very bad software poorly developed that has memory leakage and drains your battery.
This might be a very biased opinion from me, but usually I like my operating systems to be as clean as possible, only with the software/applications I really need and use. This usually makes for a very fast, responsive and efficient system.

Well, so installing custom rom will replace craping software or just similar unlocking phone?
Also i have hear this is a great phone for developing, but why there's not too much moves as in our threads? Couldn't it be because the phone doesn't need too much developing?
Another question, will official ics fix that or i should upgrade to cm9?

Trust me, the devs for the O2X are awesome. They seriously do great jobs and even create miracles for this device. Just about a month ago, CM9 wasn't available. Many things didn't work, but now thanks to awesome guys like RC and Owain, they made it available to us.
If I were you I wouldn't wait do the official LG release. The GB release was way overdue. LG promised release dates they didn't met and I think this will also happen with ICS. LG said that they would release ICS during the 2nd quarter of this year. I bet that LG won't release it then but probably in 2013 .

But cm is always better, more customization etc the only thing that worries me is that cm can me the phone lose some characteristics
I mean, i lose HDMI, the 8 MP camera is 6 MP camera that's what i mean

I don't know if there is HDMI out or not in CM, because I've never used it while using CM, but it does work fine in MIUI.
And what do you mean by "8 MP is 6 MP"? I thought the resolution just stays the same. Either way, the stock camera app has been ported over to CM7 based roms, and it works just as good as in stock ROM.
Honestly, using MIUI (Wiui to be exact), the experience is alot better, and there is almost no feature sacrificed compared to stock

For me, this phone is best in its class and value-for-money phone.
I only have 1 complain, The battery.

There are batteries you can buy with more capacity than the stock battery that comes with the phone.
However, I can easily get two day battery life with the stock battery, so personally I don't understand why so many people complain about their battery life. As far as I know it's about the same as other smart phones.

[Q] Choosing a ROM these days

Hello everyone, my first thread for this phone, used to be a Galaxy Ace user, now I have this great phone. As of now, I'm stuck at a branded fw (JVG OMN) because I'm a little afraid of losing warranty. It's weird because I used to flash my Ace like hell. Now I can't even help rooting SGS.
Anyway, I'll eventually come around at flashing some rom, there are so many of them. Hence I'd like some suggestions. My main concerns are:
1. Battery durability @ 3G (browsing the net 5hr per day at most)
2. In-call quality (no random reboots plz)
3. GPS reliability (no battery hog, if possible)
4. ICS (is it too early?)
I know you've all been asked for this before, but I'm not asking for miracles, I can understand the limits of undergoing development. I would like a sincere suggestion.

With the conditions you have placed i dont think any ICS ROM can live up to that expectation GB ROMS.
Amestris ROM has the best battery life. I have never faced any issue with calls or GPS.
MIUI ROMS are superb option if u hate SAMSUNG touchwiz . They will give u iphone feel on android
If you too eager to test then try ICS ROMs. Battery life and performance wont be that good. But within months everything will fall in its place

Thank you. I was expecting the fact that ICS still can't live up to my expectations, and I have no problem waiting for some perfect release. I was just wondering if that day will ever come, seen that many phones (some of which nowhere nearly as good as sgs) are getting smooth ics working. I put all my trust in our devs.
As for Amestris, I really do not dig themed interfaces. I prefer to get a rom as clean as possible and do my own theming when i feel ok about it. But probably it's just me.
I'm ok with touchwiz but I do like MIUI...I just can't understand whether it's been optimized for our device (i mean, everything works as good as in stock? or better?!).

I`ve been using the cm9 beta by pawitp(team hacksung cm9 beta) for months now and not had any of the issues that concern you and as of yesterday the i9000 is in the nightly builds of cyanogen mod 9 and this awsome ics rom will only get better....get rooting and flashing again , you know you want to!!!

I also place a lot of emphasis on stability, have been using the ICSSGS rom and haven't had any random reboots yet (2 weeks?)

I would like to know about latest CM9 nightly...is it worth it?
And also, some say that SlimICS is the best out here because "for the Galaxy S, the limiting factor in running ICS smoothly is none other than ram". Is this true?

I tried several custom ROM's amd at the moment I would say that the best, I mean the fastest and the most stable are ROM's made by BHuvan goyal. The latest INFINITUM with default kernel would be good for you. I've noticed that the battery life is not shorter than on gb so you would be really satisfied.

Why CM Rom? What makes it that good? Why do people prefer using it?

I have used Galaxy SL and am using Galaxy Note.
Many people were and are complaining about Stock Roms, either ICS or GB for both of the phones I use.
They say that Camera has a pink problem, GPS does not lock quickly, Video recording is not good, it is laggy, etc etc.
But same people are dying for CM Roms which have lots of bugs. Even CM 7.2 has wifi and video recording bugs for i9003.
Even stock Roms do not have those problems, and many latest stock roms are really good, people are not happy with them.
I do not see any reason to mention about Note stock Roms, especially ICS kernels and roms. They are very very stable without any bugs.
However, many people bricked their phones while they are trying to flash CM10 to their Notes.
OK. I accept that one year old stock roms were not good as much as they should be. But this is not the case anymore.
But still many people are ready to die for CM even if it has many bugs. They complain for stock but lose themselves for CM
Now, could someone please explain me what makes CM Roms that better? And even if they have lots of bugs people are using them as daily driver?

CM(At least CM9) is really quite stable on the note, I have never had any problems with it.
I personaly use it as my daily drive for a few reasons:
I find it gives better battery life
I Love the stock ICS look over samsungs touchwiz
CM9 uses much less RAM giving more ram for apps, giving better multitasking and also much more RAM for running a linux GUI
I have used CM roms since my HTC magic CyanogenMod 4 FTW! (infact I might have been running early than that but I really dont remember)

personally ive used CM builds but never felt like ive wanted to use them as my daily drivers because they just lack too many built in features of the stock rom
im not the type of person to get a stripped down rom and download 1000 apps to make it how i want it
id rather use the stock rom, only download 10 apps and have everything there

Mainly it uses a safe kernel which is emmc cap erase command disabled which prevents from our device from bricking.
In CM(/AOSP/AOKP most of the logging/Samsung crap applications were removed so that your phone runs fast. Its just about 140-160 MB. You can feel the difference in size. lol
Its very stable compared to other roms.
You will see a lot of features put it up in rom.

I was using aosp in my smaller phones. Galaxy s2 for example because i can mod them like changong dpi and so on, and the stock rpms for gs2 were so bad, but with my new note i think the stock roms are more stable and battery friendly than aosp, also yhe kernel development for aosp isn't so great as fow TW Roms, and this my 1st reason to use stock, you know i was flashing 2-3 kernels/day in my s2
BTW: You can remove all crap in the stock rom to have agood rolunning rom.

I think in the same way also.
CM lacks lots of stuff from Samsung craps. That's OK. butn it also lack lots of thing I daily use.
Besides I tried ADW Launcher. It really sucks. Nova is far more better and smoother.
Also some people claim that it drains less battery and it is fast. It is obvious that they did not use Notecore v9 with TW
I thas been 1 day and I still have %70 battery. And can't tell how awesome it is. Just check the thread...
As for ram, my phone uses ram between 500-600 mb. There are still 200 mb rams. Which is fine and enough for me.
Also it is really easy to remove some crappy stuff from samsung when you are rooted. (to be rooted takes only three minutes or maybe less )
It is OK some people like it and use it. I am of course fine with that.
But what I mean is CM is not superior to stock or TW based Roms, at least not anymore...

like rom to be close to android original source and above mentioned advantages use cm9/aoskp. you wont have full spen and other samsung apps.

No matter what rom i try, i always end up going back to CM.
The main reason i'm on CM is for the speed and the features.

CM = AOSP. AOSP = Android how it was designed and intended to be.
For me, User Interface is the most important factor in choosing the OS. Android was far behind iOS and WP7. It changed since ICS and now JB made it even better than iOS. Pure awesomeness of WP7 interface is a whole other story, not commenting on the OS itself - its UI is simply amazing. Back to UI preferences...It has to be responsive, fast and well designed ( that means visually attractive and coherent ). For example, TouchWiz is terrible for me, it makes my phone look like cheap chinese rip-off. I'm sorry, that's just my opinion, i don't want to offend anyone. The only overlay i like is Sony's TimeScape, although i still prefer AOSP. Why ? Simply because it's better designed, coherent and smoother - so it makes my user experience a lot more satisfying.

For the Note, best ROM is still Paranoid Rom for me. Firstly because of the safe kernel and secondly I can easily overclock and under volt it without much hassles.

Well it all depends...when I had the captivate Cm9 was by far the best experience. So I came to the note with the same expectations but sadly cm9 and the likes are still not on par with Samsung ROMs in speed or features.
I still flash newer versions as I expect them to be better at some point but at this time..still not there. I use CleanNote Rom.

Opinions on Best Roms

Hello all
i have just been given a samsung galaxy note and would like to know your opinions on the fastest custom ROMS/Kernals ideally i am interested
in speed and battery life. what experiences have you guys had with modding your galaxy notes ?

The predictable Cyanogen answer with all based on Cyanogen.
Easy to flash, stock, fast, light on the battery, has the cooler stock Android ICS look. CM10 coming 'round the corner with JellyBean.
Not recommended for those that love TouchWiz and things like S-Memo.

You've got a few S-Pen tuned alternatives, like Papyrus. But the gain in performance and battery is really good when you compare it to TouchWiz ROMs. Adding the fact that IT'S SAFE, meaning you can flash/wipe all you want (the CM team did a WAY better job than Samsung on that) and...the choice is pretty obvious for me, really...
If you're going to look into TouchWiz ROMs, make sure you either choose one with a safe kernel included or flash a safe kernel afterwards (I think speedmod...??? Not really sure though, you'll have to research that)

Im using Criskelo v9 rom with GL- Notecore v8.1 (OC) kernel,everything working as it should and the speed is awesome as far as battery goes ive only been running the kernel a few days and it seems ok. I charge my phone every night so battery life is no issue here.Everbody's usage differs tho, if your after longer battey life i wouldnt opt for an OC kernel.

Actually S-memo and the other sammy apps for the s-pen are better than the likes of papyrus and other apps. So for those who want/need s-memo stick with touchwiz based roms.

you guys can get angry with me but im honest to my heart,...as of now there is no rom that is completely good..im going back to gb
all tw ics roms have one major problem: SCROLLING aint smooth enough( ive tried em all)..they stutter like hell!!
and cm9 roms arent that great for battery life...
cm 10 aint fully functional...
all in all i hate it that samsung has created a wonderful device with awesome specs but totally screwed the software releases throughout...to make it even worse is black clipping!!.. im just irritated with this device, dont feel like owning a premium device...im about to sell it hopefully note 2 is better coz the spen and screen size are unbeatable!!!

Hi your best option is to go for a Touchwiz rom which you can highly customize during installation. Chrack's and Criskelo are very good fully customizable rooms. They come with Aroma installation to let you remove a lot of bloat ware before installation.
Touchwiz roms also have the best kernels around. Like Note core and Speed mod. These give a very significant improvement in speed n battery. Of course cyanogen based roms r good. But the prob is u will be lacking some native drivers Samsung has integrated into the roms for the best performance. For ex, divx support is there by default, NTFS file format for SD card can be achieved, better drivers for display n graphics etc.
Touchwiz roms can crush cyanogen roms in benchmarks as well. Cyanogen can seem very smooth and fluid. But with the right launcher (apex or nova) u can easily give the rom a stock ICS feel as well. Hope this helped. Cheers
