KK1 to KL7 - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there, I need a little help from my Note.
I have read the instruction in the past post, and I decided to upgrade my firmware from KK1 to KL7, However, I realized KL7 can not be rooted yet, and now I would like to restore it back to my back-up KK1. But now Im encountered a problem.
I have rooted my KK1 and used the CWM to backup my KK1 and I upgraded the firmware KL7 with Mobile ODIN. then I realized the it is not longer rooted with the firmware KL7 and CWM is gone from my phone. so Im wondering how could i restore back to my back-up KK1.
File i used to upgrade my phone : N7000XXKL7_N7000OXAKL7_N7000XXKL7_HOME.tar.md5
I have tried to install the CWM into KL7 however nothing happened: I used the following steps to install the CWM
1. Run DooMLoRD_v1_UNROOTING/runme-UNROOT.bat
2. Use Root+package+Galaxy+Note
3. Replace CF-Root-SGN_XX_DBT_KL7-v5.0-CWM5/zImage file into Root+package+Galaxy+Note\Root n CWM galaxy Note\InitialCFRootFlasher\zImage
4. Run already-rooted.bat also tried not-rooted-yet.bat
No luck and I couldnt restore back to my backup KK1.
Could anyone help please
Thanks

Which method you have used to update KK1 to Kl7?
Anyway you have to :
Downgrade again to KK1 (with PC Odin)Get Root + CWM
Now you have to update KL7 with Mobile Odin, with keeping ever root option On.
Detail guide is here in post #2
you can choose either of 1 method

You need to enter in Download mode(Home+Vol Down+Power)
First open Odin
select PDA - point to Firmware tar file
then connect to PC, at this time yellow colour appears in COM field?

Samsung galaxy note don't boot after a rom instal

Hello,
Sorry for my english i'am a french user.
I have a samsung galaxy note and i have root this.
i have instal odin mobil for instal a new room but... the mobile don't boot. He is fix to the bootlogo samsung.
Any one have a idéa? I try to instal the sheep room whith odin but nothing run or instal.
i need help thx
Make clear more
You were on which rom (stock)? How you hav root n wat rom you installed with mobile odin
I'm not familiar with odin but it's easy to flash using clockwork recovery. And it allows you to make backups in case you need to revert back.
thx for your help .
I have found the probleme i don't have instal kies samsung in my computer....
I now i have instal this room http://jjpda.blogspot.com/2011/12/install-n7000xxkl7.html
but i don't root this rom i have rtead this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1413120&page=10
if i understand it's impossible to root this rom???
Yes u hav installed kl7 wrong way, you need to update it withobile odin pro with everroot option, which already you had with u.
Anyway from this point you want to root anyway, u hav to first flash with other stock rom, then root n get mobile odin pro n after this flash kl7 with mobile odin pro with ever root option
When moving from an odexed ROM (stock) to a deodexed ROM (sheep) you will need to perform a factory reset. Just access the CWM recovery and do it there.
The same thing happened to me when I upgraded from kl7 to rocket ROM

many thx
YES IT WORKS with an other stock room thx for your help!!
but ...now.... when i try to instal a custom room with odin mobile it don't works.....
the phone freeze in the bootlogo
a idéa?
I also can't get my Note to get past the logo boot screen when trying to use Mobile Odin to flash either the KL7 or KL8 firmware. I have followed the steps to root KK5 (found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360), and have root access and CWM installed. Then I downloaded the new firmware files (KL7 and KL8) from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997. I then followed the instructions to use Mobile Odin to flash to the KL7 or KL8 codes, using the "ever root" option, the phone reboots and goes into the install screen, but then when it tries to boot back up, it comes to the "Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000" splash screen and just stays there. I then can use Odin on my PC to get back to the KK5 firmware--but I'd really like to get upgraded. I've searched/browsed all the posts I could find and nothing so far seems to be helping. Please help!

k. am downgrading Firmware to KL3 , and i need procedure. but mainly it should not effect binary counter.
It's not possible to root LA4 directly at the moment, so you'll need to downgrade your device first:
- Download a firmware that's rootable from here.
- Download Odin from the link provided above
- Enter "Download Mode" on your device by shutting your Note completely off, then press and hold Volume Down + Home button + Power button
- Start Odin
- Unzip the firmware (the zip file you just downloaded), and you'll end up with a md5-file
- Go to Odin and click "PDA" and choose the md5-file
- Press "Start"
- Wait
- Done
Now you can root the device and get CWM, so go to this thread and do the "I Want ROOT + CWM" at the end of the first post.
- After you're rooted download LA4 again from the first link in this post
- Transfer it to your Note
- Open CWM on your Note
- Flash it
Done. You now have a rooted LA4.

No it won't.
Just make 1 thing clear. binary count raise only, If you flash any custom ROM/Kernel with PC Odin.
Follow LordManhattan's advise and still once refer Installation guide in detail in post #2 n 3 of this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
Just to add, Downgrade Firmware shud be direct rootable. (before KL7), N if particularly i specify, I can say Downgrade first to indian ROM KL1, I have flashed this ROM in at least 5 Notes.
That means Flashing Custom ROM using CWM doesn't effect Binary Count rite??
if you flash using CWM or mobile odin it wont if you do using oding from PC it will still not sure about official firmware

Yep, this is what I did after going through Dr. Ketans post. I now have rooted LA4 , but my CWM app and recovery is only partial. I do not have option to do backup/restore on CWM on LA4. Is it a universal problem? Any ideas?

Hey,
Dr.Ketan, can you tell me please if there is a chance to root the original LA4 (never changed rom) if I don't have access to a Windows and only to a Mac?
I only want to root it for the basic tweaks and apps. Don't need a custom rom at the moment. I want to root it and use it as is while I wait for the official ICS.
Thanks.
There is no Queston of window or Mac,LA4 is non rootable, to get root, first u need to downgrade older rom.

Thanks. I got ahead of the events. I didn't meant that. I meant if I can do the procedure of downgrading and everything I might need to do in order to root or to install a custom rom or another stock using ONLY my Samsung Note and a Mac.
Q1: I can downgrade using a exclusively a Mac with Lion on it?
Q2: If the answer to Q1 is affirmative, can I root it after downgrade also using only Lion on Mac?
Thanks again!
I have never heard mac pc odin. Plz google for it. So without pc odin you cant downgrade.
Yes there was review i read, got root with mac. You just read my thread how to root...(u may find from my signature), i remember i have post a link somwhere, how to root using mac.

Yes, I saw there was one root with mac solution, but works only if the Note is rootable. LA4 is not. So I must downgrade first. )))))
Nevermind, I'll try to do it with Windows, somehow. Thanks!
I am also new to this, and this thread is very clear. The bit I do not understand is what Kernal I should be running. Custom roms available can have a variety of kernals e.g LA3, LA4 etc. Do i have to choose a rom that has a kernal compatible with my phone? is there some rational to running one kernal vs another? I notice that it may be possible to flash a rom and keep a previous kernal e.g a CF kernal. is this advisable? your advice would be very welcome.
You don't need to flash a new kernel. Most of the custom ROMs includes a custom kernel that's good enough, but if you're interested in testing a few of them then you can do it without any problems.

Now is when I am lost. I did all the above (thanks, by the way) and I run KKA now. I had LA4 (Germany) when bought it, then downgraded to root.
Now I am rooted but when I try to update firmware with CWM, nothing happens. I have to put the ZIP in the Note or the MD5? I tried with the MD5 two times.
Is there something I do wrong? Is any other method apart from CWM? I mention that when I downgraded and first booted, CWM said something about "not being compatible and some functions were disabled".
Any ideas?
EDIT:
I couldn't work it out as expected and I went back to my original LA4 (Germany).

You always loose root after flashing stock firmware! Should have flashed it with MobileOdinPro.
If you want root again, downgrade to a directly rootable rom (all versions till KL7) and reroot it with CFRootIntitialFlasher by Chainfire, thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331784

If I reflash KK2 would it keep all my stuff (contacts, apps, settings) or it will be as format?
Is there any other easier methods to root the LA1 or wait for it?
Iam new with Samsung and Odin, and read somewhere that mobile Odin will intact the 0 flashing (or something means that)
And also read that all flashing can be done via windows Odin (easier for me to deal via pc than mobile screen size)

No LA1 cannot be rooted directly unless you don`t care about raising the binary flash counter. I think KK2 is a wipe rom so yes you will losse everything on your internal disk, so copy the entire disk with windows task manager and put it back after you flashed KK2.
Odin can only be used with stock firmware, kernels or csc files, not custom files.
And try to read up about rooting, flashing and such things. There are threads enough around here.
Good luck

according to what I understood from you so far:
1 - I will reflash the Original stock rom KK2 by PC Odin
you said that KK2 will wipe my mobile and I should make a backup for my internal disk, So, Sorry to ask: what is this (windows task manager) and how to use it?
2 - I will root the KK2 same way I did last time
3 - I will flash the new update LA1 via Mobile Odin and it will keep my root and CWM
Does Mobile odin come in free or paid?

1. yes reflash KK2 using PC odin, I dont know wether KK2 is wipe version, if it is wipe, even you won't lose data on internal SD card, no meaning to take backup with window. If you want to backup your installed app + data, you must have Root.
alternatively you can choose non wipe version to reflash (e.g. KL3 india) it won't delete anything.
2. You have to Root Your relashed ROM (you can find how to Root guide on my signature)
3.Mobile Odin Pro is paid. Dont want to pay for mobile Odin Pro/ unable to purchase it, you can get Root + CWM, then update LA4 using CWM ( you may get installation guide link from my signature)
I will recommend to read all 4 links(first 2-3 post) on my signature, you will find answer of most of your questions
what if i tried to root my new ROM (LA1) using doomlord rooting kit, failed, and then downgrade it to KL3?
can i still use the doomlord easy rooting kit?
i tried this few times yesterday, but it still won't get rooted.
Ok, I reflashed by PC Odin my original stock rom KK2, and it was not wipe, I found everything is intact
But when I tried to root + recovery like before, did not work although I get on the screen (all done) but after reboot no root or CWM
I reinstalled Kies but still alot of errors when trying to do the rppt only or root+CWM
What should I do?
is there any way that I can wipe my phone and start as fresh as I can? what I did is :
boot to recovery and chooses wipe cache partition and Factory reset, it is all or there is something else can be done?
Edit : The wipe did it, and I have root and CWM now

Turn off your antivirus temporarily as it removes some components of your rooting tool which causes the error message.

Hello everyone.
I am new to xda. Verry happy to found you all.
Sorry for device, is not i9000 (is i9001), can't find Q&A on i9001
The story: i tried to root my i9001, because my 2.3.6 lags and freeze (all go personalization)
I installed ClockworkMod Recovery v6.0.1.3 but home button is navigating up, and phone is restarting in recovery mode, can't do anything.
I tried woth Odin, AriesVE.ops + Boot_loader.tar, but Odin Multi Downloader v4.43 doesen't recognize my phone (desinstaled kies, reinstaled samsung drivers 3 times, restarted pc).
Now i can't do anything in recovery menu, and only odin that recognize phone is Odin3 v1.85, not any tar place.. only a pit place, i loaded "u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4" that comes with odin. Than I load boot_loader, go start and is stuck at SetupConnection until phone restarting.
If anyone can help me with my problem i would be very grateful
ok, new drivers solved the problem, odin recognize phone now, hope i will root it
Odin is a bit dangerous you *risk* bricking your phone, not likely but still, I like to play it safe. Always.
The safest way to root the phone is probably checking the wiki [link] or SuperOneClick [link]
As for the I9001 and the I9000 mixed: link post 7 and 8
You dont need odin to root. Even with stockrom and recovery you can root. If you want to root it see my tut about flashing back to stock and then post 2. Futhermore, odin is not as risky as KIES..

Hi,
to root your I9001 you just to put this file http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=713519&d=1315472889 to your internal SD-card. Then you can use even use the stock recovery (CWM Recovery of cours too) to root your phone.

I have a I9000BVJP4 (FROYO.BVJS4) phone bought in 2011 from Orange in the UK. I was trying to root the bastard to get Jelly Bean on it. I coulddnàt get 4zroot to root it, neither Once Click root method (earlier would not reboot the phone and Titanium said it wasn't rooted anyway and the second just said "failed" when it got to the end of the process).
So I decided to use the CF root method. I downloaded the various cf kernels here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108 as I thought I needed to match the JS bit. So I tried JS3 which looped on intial screen the first time. JS5 and JS7 just hang on the first screen. Clearly I can get ODIN 3.07 to upload these kernels so I can get the phone to switch to download mode. THe problem is that it hangs and never boot.
I'm a bit of newbie with this stuff but I understand that as long as i can get into download mode I haven't bricked the beast. THe problem is that I donàt know how to out of this situation. I bet it's just a question of finding the right kernel and uploading with ODIN. Any suggestions? I presume the phone is still unrooted (or maybe not now that I have all these kernels uploaded through ODIN?)
Your help would be most appreciated.
Many thanks
Antonio

Mate,
cheers for this although the XXJVU ROM you suggested didn't work. I decided to give the XXJVT version a go which I downloaded from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881 and I tell you this rocks. I've finally got rotation working again and have got rid of all the crap that Orange installed.
Do you know if Jelly Bean works on the I9000 and how it performs? Is it worth installing on such an "old" device? BTW, I used the same pit file you attached. That did work. Thanks again.

No problem ever . yep, Jellybean works , infact it rocks ! . the stock gingerbread firmware is crap if compared with jellybean . I use cm 10.1 Android 4.2.2 makes my phone butter smooth doesn't matter its quite old though but works like a charm. did you root your phone ? using semaphore kernel ? you have to root it first to install jellybean for XXJVT , here's the link for the kernel :-
http://78.46.194.137/kernels/Semaphore_kernel_JVT_1.9.1.tar
flash it the way i told you , you have to select it in the PDA file option in Odin. hope it works for you now .
