hi just taken position of my brand new XL,i use g mail but have noticed the stock mail has got a better layout, how can i just use the stock and not have the 2 coming through any help please
If you have rooted your phone you can delete gmail using a root exploring app, by going to system/app and then deleting the .apk and rebooting the phone. That's how I did it. You can do it so you don't ever sync through gmail too and that stops it sending notifications but you will still receive the emails should you open the gmail app in error.
Not sure of any other ways.
ah thanks but not rooted yet
Set up gmail ad exchange account . Then in accounts and setting. Untick all sync boxes for.google account

Are you using the facebook camera? On the stock camera there is also an "upload" feature under settings, might want to check if that's the problem..
Yeah there is no way to stop the photo sync. If you so much as log in it'll replace all your pictures with Facebook photos and if your using third party messengers then you won't get pictures at all. Your best bet is to use friendcaster instead

Actually you can if it has not replaced your photos with facebook photos right after you sign on to facebook for the first time go to menu settings accounts and sync then go to the facebook account and uncheck all the sync boxs and it wont replace your photos also it will not put status updates next to the contacts you should be able to delete your facebook account under accounts and sync and start over with the above options I am talking about the phone menu not facebook

Thanks guys I was an old user of friendcaster premium so in the end I just got rid of book and reverted back to this. It has come a long way in the 6 months since I last used it. After my next rom update I will have a go @ the method in jerry's post. Thanks again for the help and input

Hi everyone,
2 days ago I tried to update my aunts sensation xl and told her that it is better to update its ROM from 2.3.5 to 4.0.3.
So i created a google account in phone and added it in order to sync contacts....and after 2 hours, I thought that it has been synced.... but I was wrong.
After upgrading device to ICS, and adding the previous account that i made before upgrading, I was waiting for contacts to restore, but nothing happend....
I opened the gmail account on PC and saw that there was no contacts. So the only way for me to restore the contacts is to find a way to restore them from Phone device.
So,is there any software, either on phone or PC, to restore contacts from phone? or is there a way to have access to root folders and files of phone on PC to use a recovery program to restore "Contacts.db" file that was erased while flashing ICS?
I will appreciate any help from you guys to help me saving my reputation.....
Phone contacts do not show up in Gmail address book, search google for google contacts or google phonebook/addressbook. I forgot what its called, but its part of your google account.

I know where is contact link in gmail, I manage them on my own account, so the problem is not about gmail account, the only way is to recover them from my phone...
Any other suggestion?
Hi, I am facing the same problem
Have you found some kind of resolution?
Tks

Hey
I know it may be dumb to ask but is their a need to sync Facebook or social media apps with your phone? I'm Abit confused of the benefits? I have Google contacts synced to phone which i think will sync my new contacts so I'm fine with that but everything else is it really useful or is it better to have them auto sync turned off for battery life...
Cheers

I dont turn on my sync still i get the update in facebook, google mail, apps, and yahoo mail. I dont know what is the purpose of sync?
Its better to turn it off for added battery life.
That's what I'm thinking but I'm scarred to turn off Google as I want my phone contacts always backed up. That's the only one I have synced at the moment.

set those that can to push and you safe battery, rather then synch

What's push and is their a option for that??
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
yep when checking settings in email and accounts I think there are options there. At least for Exchange mail. Gmail its already push, dont think you can change it.
Always just check every setting within app as wel, Facebook has push for direct messages I think.
synch is old school, poll server, updates found download, repeat proces every few minutes
push, not entirely like blackberry but close, servers sees email and sends it to phone to download. Hence push.

Basically I sync all my contacts and photos with my google account so it will never be deleted unless I do
Syncing is to exchange the things between two accounts EG. Contacts & Google and if you lose the things on one account you can recover from the other account you synced by enabling the sync option again or you can delete on other also by syncing again
Its up to you
Hey
Thanx everyone for the advice. I think having Google contacts is a must just incase I add new contacts etc and I've synced my dropbox But apps like Facebook and whatsapp and twitter are so not needed so I've taken them all off. I can't understand why anyone would want to sync twitter or whatsapp lol just ludacris.
Cheers

My stock mail app on HTC One only syncs when I open the mail app, I have tried various syncing settings from smart sync to syncing every 10 mins, but still only ever updates when I actually open the mail app.
any one with similar problems?

HTC ONE - stock mail app not sync automatically
I actually upgraded from the HTC ONE X to the HTC ONE. On the ONE X I had no issue with the mail. On the HTC ONE my stock mail app stopped auto sync just out of the blue. I am running the stock 4.1.2 OS/Sense version 5. I have 3 mail accounts that do not sync.(Gmail, Yahoo, MS Exchange) They will sync only when I open up the mail app. I have the sync set to 5 min. intervals and to sync the inbox. I have the Data Connection put to sleep in the power save setting Turned Off and the " sleep mode " turned off in the power settings.
check 1
auto sync in settings is off or on
check 2
see if you hv ticked refresh on open in email account settngs
that may be super ceding all your other email settings.
Hi all,
I want to sync the Exhange calendar from work into my private phone, but I don't want the work mails in my private phone.
On the HTC Sensation I could only check calendar and the mail didn't sync.
On the HTC one Inbox of the mail is mandatory and always marked.
Is there a way to unmark it? I have also checked other apps, but couldn't really find anything just for the calendar sync.
Edit: Would be great if I could umark inbox in a system file or something
Have you tried after setup is complete going back into settings, accounts and sync, and un-ticking inbox there? Worked for me just now.

I've updated to Viper One and now I can untick the mail checkbox in the exchange account!
