Hey guys!
I have a problem, and to be perfectly honest I am not a massive expert at this sort of stuff, but bare with me.
I am trying to install Virtuous ICS Rom RC2 on my Incredible S, but once I've done so it won't boot past the HTC logo. Tried a clean wipe (factory reset/cache/dalvik cache), and even changing from EXT3 to EXT4 and back, but nothing works. Now, I've had this problem before with other various ROMs, and it seems that I can only get flawless installs and boots from Cyanogenmod 7.1 and MIUI (not the ICS version).
Currently running 4EXT recovery and MIUI, but I want the ICS rom really bad, and other Incredible S users are flashing without any problems, so I'm not sure what gives.
Any and all help would be appreciated (and sorry if this is a noob-ish question and/or in the wrong forum)!
Make sure you have the newest ClockWork Recovery Mod installed. If you do try reinstalling it and an engineering hBoot. I would say the problem would be that one of those are corrupt.
I will try both of those and get back to you with the results! Thanks!
Okay, so I updated CWM to 5.0.2.0, which did not do anything. When you say reinstall, do you mean a completely removal of CWM and then installing it again? Because I'm not sure how to do that.
Also, as usual, MIUI 1.2.30 installs just fine, but I just tried installing MIUI 2.12.13 and ended up in a bootloop. So, thus far, I can only flash two roms; CM7.1 and MIUI 1.2.30. These two were the first two roms I ever flashed, not sure if that has anything to do with anything but I thought it might be worth mentioning.
Unlocked bootloader with htcdev? You might need to reflash the boot.img from your desired rom's zip file with the command
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
i think you should flash the new ROM image

How do I flash a ROM via HBOOT? Do I just load it up, wait for the SD card to be read then plug it in via usb, go to cmd and type in the necessary prompts, and the boot.img file from my rom.zip will be flashed?

Read the FAQ sticky post for info on how to flash the boot.img file in a custom ROM.zip file.
Will do, thanks guys, wish me luck.
The correct first question is: Is the OP S-Off or HTC unlocked? if it's the latter, follow Nonverbose's advice.
My phone is S-OFF.

Please boot into Fastboot mode and run the following:
Fastboot getvar all
And post the results so we can see how your phone is currently set up
Okay, so I highlighted FASTBOOT and pressed the power button, then plugged in the USB and it changed to FASTBOOT USB. However, my PC doesn't find my phone, so I can't run the cmd prompts. Should I just go through the steps listed in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1337105?

No that would not be applicable in your case from what you have told us. If you are S-Off and have a custom ROM installed, then you probably don't have HBOOT 1.16 or 2.00. That is why I wanted you to get the Fastboot getvar all information.
Have you installed HTC Sync on your PC to get the appropriate drivers set up?
Just installed HTC Sync and got all the appropriate drivers. Still won't show up as a disk when I'm in Fastboot, but I'm guessing it's not supposed to either.

No it won't show as a disk drive. Open a command window and set the working directory to the one where you installed adb.exe and Fastboot.exe and then type:
Fastboot devices and it should respond with your device serial number. If it does then you can type:
Fastboot getvar all

Ok you still have S-Off and now that you have fastboot working I would try reflashing CWM 5.0.2.0 recovery image in fastboot mode.
Copy the CWM recovery.img file to the directory where you have fastboot.exe. If you have a zip file for CWM5.0.2.0 then open the zip and copy the .img file.
Then in fastboot mode type the command:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Then I would try flashing Virtuous ICS.
Hm, sadly that didn't help, it still just bootloops and/or get stuck on the bootscreen (depending on the ROM, tried both the Virtuous ROM and the new MIUI).

Good morning, all:
I just got my HTC One the other day and, in the process of transferring content from my Galaxy SIII, I rooted and installed CWM recovery, but kept the stock ROM because I liked the change from what I'd been using on the SIII (CM).
Unfortunately, in the last day or so, an OTA update was released for the One and, as I found out (and you likely know), you can't perform OTA updates with a custom recovery. The constant notifications are enough to make me want to update, besides the obvious benefits of increased stability.
I was wondering if I could flash the recovery found in the [Recovery] Stock HTC One post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2158763) to the device so that I could update? Also, would this break my root/superuser? The device is a TELUS model (if they differentiate by carrier) with software no° 1.29.661.5.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

UPDATE - 2:38 PM
------------------------------
Hey, guys:
Sorry for all of this noise, I figured things out and wanted to delete this thread, but can't seem to do that.
For those of you experiencing similar issues, who followed mike1986.'s Complete Flashing Guide post, the process for restoring your stock Recovery image to do OTA updates is actually super simple:
- Connect your phone to your computer and pull the backup you did of your device before flashing the custom recovery image.
- Open the folder and move the Recovery.img file to your Android SDK folder.
-Boot your device in fastboot mode (like you did during unlocking bootloader - power off the device and turn it on using power + vol down buttons and select "FASTBOOT")
-Open up command prompt ( Start > Run > type cmd and hit enter ). The window that appears is called Command Prompt. <click here to see the image>
- Navigate to [your SDK directory] (type in Command Prompt: cd c:\[directory]).
- In the Command Prompt type following command: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Click to collapse
Using this method, you could flash your stock recovery back onto the device, perform the OTA, then flash the custom Recovery.img back onto your device all in the span of 5 minutes.
This is probably standard stuff for most people on this forum.
[DELETED]
Could you please post your custom recovery?
I need to do the same procedure as yours, and I am currently on same fw, from Telus.
Many thanks.

Sure thing, millicent.
Tried attaching it to the post, but that wasn't working so here's a DropBox link: HTC One Stock Recover (1.29.661.5). Happy OTA updating!
I've tried this, but the OTA update package won't install. Flashing the Recovery.img isn't enough.

I assume you're running a stock ROM, so did you delete any stock apps(i.e bloatware)? If so, you will need to NAND restore to a stock backup or get those apps back. First thing an official OTA does is check the signatures on all the files it'd expecting to be on the device and if any come back wrong or missing, update aborts.

So I was just wondering, if i install the bloatware/default apps back manually (using the .apk files) and flash the recovery back to stock. Will I be able to do an OTA update Without loss of data? If that´s possible, I wil flash the custom bootloader back after performing the OTA update.
Guys, thanks for helping me out. I've done an OTA update without any data loss, you can read about it in thishttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42122514#post42122514 Thread.

Since you have a custom recovery, extract boot.img from the zip, flash via fastboot : fastboot flash boot boot.img
run twrp, and install rom via sideload, like the previous guy said you don't need S-Off, with S-On you can't flash boot.img via twrp so it'll have to be done via bootloader

Unistall htc sync and htc drivers and install http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261088 these drivers, then use adb command 'adb devices' and hopefully it shows up, to sideload, it's a simple adb command. have the rom.zip in the adb folder. then use 'adb sideload rom.zip' then wait until 100% and it'll automatically run the script on twrp
You need to be in recovery to do adb devices.
You need to have the phone connected in Fastboot USB mode to do fastboot device.
These are NOT interchangeable.

Hey all,
Before 3 months ago I wanted to make the my HTC One to GPE.
I followed this guide:
http://htc-one.wonderhowto.com/how-...with-bootloader-recovery-ota-updates-0148068/
It worked great I really enjoyed this experience versions.
Now, I want to install Android Revolution HD 61.1 and I do not understand what the process I have to do.
I downloaded the file's version.
I enter to Recovery and installed from the file.
The device startup with a new version but there were some problems:
- Google's logo still appeared to me the operation of the device.
- It is unable to connect to Google's services.
- At the first time after the device turn on the sim card is not work but if I turn the flight mode on and then turn it off the sim work correctly.
*sorry about the incorrect English.
Make sure you do a full wipe from within the Aroma installer.

Aroma installer is the interactive installer within the ROM's flashable file that guides you through the installation process. Put the ROM you want onto your SD card, boot to recovery, install the zip, and when the installer comes up be sure to tell it to perform a full wipe. As for the picture in your post, that's HBOOT.

Okay. Thank you. I understand you.
In Installation I make WIPE.
There is a need to WIPE after installation?
Anyway, I want to return the device to its original condition, with the HTC logo and then flash the version again.
Wipe before the installation. Wiping afterwards would just delete everything. If you're trying to just put Android Revolution on it, you don't have to go the entire way back to stock condition just to do it. Simply wipe and install. If you're S-OFF, you can update/change the firmware and all that, but it won't prevent the phone from functioning.

I will update with the results.
Okay. First of all, thanks for the help!
I did what you said and it really solved the second of three problems I wrote.
But the only problem with the Google logo, it still did not solve me:
Point of this guide is to have users have a simple knowledge on how to keep there HTC Butterfly S 901s/901e up to date with the development community.! I will try to make this as Noob-friendly as I can. And if it's still too hard to understand then their is a simple solution. STOP MESSING WITH YOUR PHONE.!!!!!
1. ADB & Fastboot Folder
Will Update Soon.!!
2. Unlocking Your Boot loader
Description : The reason why most users and devs unlock their boot loader is so users or devs can start modifying there phone by flashing zips, kernels and recoveries.
A. Go to htcdev.com
B. Follow their unlocking guide ( if you can't do this then stop what your doing and stay pure stock )
3. Flashing A Recovery
Description : A Recovery is the must needed thing when it comes to flashing kernels and zips of all sorts. But just because you have a recovery installed doesn't mean you can flash anything on XDA , flash what is only on your development forums. Or what has support for your phone.
A. Download recovery Here
B. Place the recovery you just downloaded into your fastboot folder
C. In cmd prompt type the following
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
4. Obtaining S-Off
Description : For a general understanding what s-off is pleased read Here.!!
A. Methods of Achieving S-Off as of 02/13/2015
SunShine Apk - Here
RumRunner - Here
Follow their instructions as I will not post them here.!!!!
After Achieving S-Off proceed to the next step
5. Obtaining SuperCID
A. Boot phone into boot loader
B. Navigate to your Fastboot folder
C. Enter these commands
Code:
fastboot oem readcid
fastboot oem writecid 11111111
fastboot reboot bootloader
5. Firmware Update
A. Download the latest firmware zip from Here.!!
B. With the download firmware.zip you want to put it in your fastboot folder
C. Power Off Phone
D. Hold volume down + Power
E. Plug phone into computer. The Phone should enter Fastboot USB
F. Navigate your command prompt to your fastboot folder
G. Next enter the following commands:
Code:
Fastboot oem rebootRUU
Fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
Fastboot flash zip firmware.zip (same command if first time fails)
Fastboot reboot
H. Now your phone should reboot
CONGRATULATIONS!!! You are up to date and ready to flash anything in our Butterfly S Community.!
6. Flashing Roms

Needs a bit more explaining I think.
I don't know why, but at first, fastboot didn't work for me.
I tried many things found on the internet, many guides, many drivers but every time, while my device was on, my computer could detect it and interact with it using cmd and "adb" commands, but every time I rebooted to bootloader, and selected "fastboot", nothing worked. The drivers wouldn't install correctly and even "fastboot devices" wouldn't work. My phone was on Hboot 1.54, and my computer was on a Windows 8.1 x64
I then installed Windows 7 on my laptop and had no problems installing the drivers and flashing the firmware.zip using fastboot.
Today I wanted to try again to make fastboot work with my butterfly (hboot 1.57 now) on my windows 8.1 PC, and...it worked ! I'm no expert, but I guess Hboot 1.54 wasn't "compatible" with win 8.1, whereas hboot 1.57 has no problems.
Just wanted to share this here, in case it can help someone else in the same situation.

Hello All,
Quick and dirty guide.
Warning!
I'm not responsible for any damage to you, to your device or to your data. Do this at your OWN RISK! If you don't know what you are doing, STOP now!
Steps to flash the ROM using TWRP:
Be on Android 11 (MIUI 12.5) and flash TWRP. There is a guide here on how to do it, so i'm not posting that.
Obviously, you'll need unlocked bootloader so if it's not unlocked, your case is lost
Download the ROM in the title from here and copy it to your phone
Reboot to TWRP
If you want, i guess you can wipe data - i haven't done this
Flash the ROM like you would any other (install and select the zip you copied over from the above link)
At the end, it'll give you mounting error but it's all good, reboot
Wait for the ROM to settle if you wish - you can stop here
For Magisk, follow the below steps
Enable developer settings and USB debugging
Install the Magisk Manager app (latest version 24.1 at the time of writing this little guide)
Turn off the phone and boot it into fastboot mode
Start the fastboot app of your choice from your pc and connect your phone via USB (I'm using Minimal ADB and Fastboot, you can find it on XDA)
issue the following commands in the same order:
Code:
fastboot devices
if you don't get as a response a few digits of your device ID with the fastboot text next to it, you'll doing something wrong (driver might be or you are not in fastboot mode)
Code:
fastboot flash boot_a patched_boot.img
if the command completes you'll get a finished message
Code:
fastboot flash boot_b patched_boot.img
patched_boot.img is the full path of the patched boot.img file
Code:
fastboot reboot
wait for the device to boot.
Patched boot.img is attached but if you wish, you can extract it from the rom yourself using payload dumper and patch it on your phone with Magisk. The attached boot.img is patched with Magisk 24.1, this is what you'll need as well - this is the current version. You need to unzip the attached file of course!
Enjoy.

Just flashed by TWRP and reset to the factory. So far there is no fastboot image, only recovery one, and normal way it is not possible to flash it as it is only for Mi Pilot people.
