LGE P970 V20* GB Rooting - LG Optimus Black

Hello Everyone
I have noticed in a few threads there is alot of talk that people cannot root the new GB firmware from LG I fiddled with all the current versions out there and have now rooted them all. Thanks to Ilko and alot of stuffing around..
Firstly IM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR BRICK OR VOID WARRANTY THIS IS INFORMATION ONLY Ok now the formalitys are over and done with.
If you already have the latest of Ilko's Upgrade kit good for you if not I suggest you get it now if you dont know where it is here is a link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1111771 now you have the neccessary tools to root your phone (theres also plenty of other awesome stuff in there too) we will start.
STEP 1. Go to the UPK file you created while installing Ilko's kit and Install all the drivers in the kit (even if your sure you have them it wont hurt to re-install) make sure your phone is unplugged at this time. Keep your UPK file open.
STEP 2. On your phone Goto Settings>Development and check USB Debugging
STEP 3. Now plug your phone into your computer DONOT mount USB Mass Storage
STEP 4. Go back to the UPK window and select SuperOneClick and open it.You may get a administrator rights popup make sure you allow or click ok whatever it says.
STEP 5. You need to make sure you do this in the right corner of the window of SOC (Superoneclick) there is a drop down that says exploit take it from auto and select gingerbreak because auto uses PSnueter and it has been patched in most cases and will not work.
STEP 6. Your phone should still be plugged in to your PC now is the good stuff make sure you read this carefully now cos you may brick your phone I havent done it personally but my brother has but he is pretty stupid.
STEP 7. Click ROOT in SOC and wait if it pops up with your device is already rooted would you like to continue click yes (this pops up if you have rooted your device before and also if theres a temp root on your device) now it will get to Rooting step 6 and hang maybe even it will stop responding at this point goto the UPK and open SRP and allow it to run your phone will reset and SOC will continue and say your phone is rooted do the test although it not necerssarry and it will confirm.
FINALE. Go to the apps and you should see Superuser (little skull thingy as the icon) Please thank me if I helped you also thank Ilko and Chains both great guys
Any questions please post I will reply and help as I can
Thanks Cuzzo-

Well if this method works, ur the big king from now on
-edit- And you are sure you dont have Redy's repack installed?
But it sounds quite much like the way it might have happend to me, but since I tried to many different things, I couldnt tell which combination it was...
Oh and whats SRP? and which version of SOC do u use?

SRP is a Shell root process in Ilko's Upgrade kit. I have used redy's repack but I have also flashed v20a and the Europe open v20n and tryed same method it works no problems.
The only reason you use the SRP is it refreshes the ADB and stops SOC from querying it at root step 6 so that the process continues Im using SOC v2.1.1

Could you share SRP.exe ? It is no more in UPK.

Yes, just try.
I am using super 1 click 2.3.3, because it hasn't the choice gingerbread to me, so I choose zergRush.
Then I start to root, everything is just follow the instruction till the SOC hangs.
Then, I open UPZ, there is no SPR exists, so I open BlackJack and it reboot my P970. After reboot, super1click back to normal but my p970 still unroot.

lol... guys, SRP was my first release in order to follow the first method of getting root where SOC 1.9.5 was stuck. In fact, psneuter can't restart adb by itself, that's why SOC couldn't continue. Since it is totally obsolete, I don't recommend its using.
If you just need to kill adb server, create a new text file in an adb directory, paste the following then save it as KillADB.cmd :
Code:
@echo off
title Killing ADB server
echo Killing server
echo --------------
echo.
adb kill-server
echo.
echo.
timeout 5
run it to kill adb, so SOC will continue by running daemon again with its next command

I mounted it as R/W using the terminal
Hi.. I just root my phone as u say and now i have SuperUser app.. But i dont know how to remove Vodafone apps and the other i dont want, in SuperUser i cant do nothing..
Can you help?
Best Regards
You can use SuperUser only to revoke permissions of apps.. nothing else (as far as i know)
To remove apps, install Titanium Backup ★ root from the market. Open the app, go to the Backup/Restore tab, click on the app that you want to remove and select Uninstall. Be careful though, removing certain apps might break your system. So backup first.
I will try...
Thanks for the anwser!

Reset to Stock 2.1 Firmware on MAC OS 10.5.8

I never upgraded to the 2.2 because I have a Mac. However, I DID root my phone, and DID take OFF some of the ATT bloatware. I remember thinking that I'd found out how to put it all back on, but I haven't. I'm exchanging it for a new one as the speakers have gone wacky (turns on/off).
So, here is what I was planing on doing:
1. Hard reset the phone (I don't really care about backing up at this point).
2. Perhaps take my husband's unrooted and stock phone, and drag/drop the bloatware onto my phone while mounted??? Not sure if I can do this? Where to put the files?
3. Reboot. Hopefully see ATT bloatware arrive back on my phone.
So, here is what I think need to know:
1. Is there a better way to hard reset than going into privacy/factory data reset?
2. Does the hard reset remove all my Amazon apps so ATT doesn't see them?
3. How do I put the original bloatware back on?
4. Please don't tell me to "click this link" cause most likely I've read it, and it's not a CLEAR step by step.
5. A step by step guide (including, "plug in your phone, set debugging, pull up terminal, type ./adb, turn off your phone, etc.).
THANKS!

That is what I'm looking for. However, I still need a step by step for it. I'll ask over there as well. I did put Heimdall on earlier today (before this post), along with qt opensource, but did not understand where to go from there. Maybe I'll uninstall and then find out if there is a step-by-step. I could not figure out where a guide for Heimdall was on the glass echidna website... I could be blind though!
STEP-BY-STEP please! ;0)
Ok, apparently, I cannot post on that forum due to little amount of posts or something. lol So... please... anyone... have... a step-by-step guide??? I mean really BASIC step-by-step!

Heimdall CWM 3.1 guide
On EE03, only flash Clockwork and not the Kernel.
Hi. I'm here to post a guide to installing ClockworkMod 3.1.0.1 on your Epic with Heimdall. I'm doing this because me and some other people had our phones bricked by the 3.0.2.5 one click root and this worked for me.
Step 1: Download and extract heimdall from here: http://www.glassechidna.com.au/products/heimdall/
Step 2: Boot your phone into download mode by holding the 1 key and pressing power after either a battery pull or simply turning your phone off and connect it to your USB Port
Step 3: Open Zadig.exe from /drivers in the extracted folder
Step 4: Go to options> list all devices.
Step 5: Select to Install the Samsung Android USB Composite Driver from the list.
Note: It may say it has an unknown publisher (or something similar), ignore it. I am 100% sure that it's safe.
Step 6: Download CWM from http://drockstar.devphone.org/EpicTools/cwm3.1.0.1.purple.zip
Step 7: Download Drockstar kernel from http://drockstar.devphone.org/EpicKernel/DRockstar.Clean.Kernel.EC05.v1.05.zip
Step 8: Put the zimage from /kernel in the CWM Zip in the recovery slot
Step 9: Put the zImage from /kernel in the Drockstar Clean Kernel Zip in the Kernel slot.
Step 10: Press start and it should work.
It's quick and easy. Should only take about 5 minutes from start to finish.

However, on my Mac I'm not seeing the (Step 3) "drivers." Now, I think that technically, we Mac owners usually don't have to deal with drivers as much, so I wondered if it didn't apply to Mac users???
Step 4 I'm not sure if they are talking about accessing "options" on the Mac or phone? How/where do I access it?
Step 6 & 7: Do I HAVE to download those files?

The steps above may not quite be what you're looking for.
Perhaps a better solution would be found here, which is a one-click Heimdall-based program that will flash your phone back to stock (putting all the bloatware back in place).
Please note that the program is still in beta, but other Mac users have tested and used it successfully, from what I can see. Plus, if you have questions, Adam is usually really good about answering them in a timely and polite fashion.

Thanks for catching that. OP, nevermind my post.
Grab a windows XP virtual machine on bittorrent, then use Odin3 one-click from within it. Use Oracle VirtualBox format... Get the PUEL version, not the OSE version. Find a XP VM for VBox then connect the device to the VM and flash it.
My program can't generate firmware. I don't know where you can get the stock firmware. If anyone knows, I'd like to make a Heimdall One-Click for that.

Want to know if unroot is possible here.

Hi there,
I bought an Optimus Black rooted and it has several programs and stuff.
At the beginning didn't care too much about it, but now I realize that I cannot use my gmail account because it always asks for the previous owner account, and searching I found that I need to factory reset in order to change default gmail account.
So I went to reset and it goes to a clockwork recovery program and I'm not able to select any option because it's asking for E: from previous owner (I found obvious I think), so I had to reset the phone and nothing changed when it comes back.
As you can see I'm totally noob with these android mods, but I was an experimented SE/Nokia user, so phone modding is not new to me in some sense, meaning I can learn quickly.
My question is: Is it possible to unroot my phone? Although I don't have any kind of recovery data, backup or history of what has been done in this phone.
I don't care about software already installed, as I mention I can start over again with my own style.
I'd appreciate your help here so I can start safe.
Thank you.
what ROM do you use?
check it in setting-about phone
if it's 10a/b, you can unroot using gingerbreak
LOL, made me check deep to see what is my phone.
This is what I found:
Android 2.2.2
Base band XMM6160
Kernel 2.6.32
Compilation FRG83G
SW Nova v7

If it's Nova then SU is preinstalled in the system. Even you factory reset it SU will be there as well as preinstalled app that came with it. Might as well flash a stock (KDZ) if you want a fresh one. Cause Nova depends on SU for some apps.
Sorry for late response, I was pretty busy in other stuff.
Understood. It is possible if you can point me out to a specific tutorial to start how to flash a stock, as you mention?
Thanks in advance.

Not necessarily. For reasons that are beyond me, I was unable to root my v10b OB using Gingerbreak v1.20, instead using SuperOneClick v1.9.5 (not v2.2.1) to do that.
I do know that, supposedly, for v10a and v10b Gingerbreak should work and that for v10c+ Blackjack or SuperOneClick v2.2.1 should do the trick. But none of those worked for me.
Just pointing that out.
Thanks guys.
I followed that link and searching on it I found this tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1111771&page=3
Three questions:
If I follow it and I flash the kdz that I choose (local carrier), I will get my fresh phone? Even that I have SU, Nova and Clock recovery installed?
Is it ok if the kdz file for my local carrier is V10A_03.kdz? Instead of V10A_00.kdz
What if I try gingerbreak and select unroot, then factory reset? SU will remain?
Thanks again for your help.
1.) Yes, you will get a fresh phone, but with no root access, and with the stock kernel and 2.2 Froyo on it.
2.) No idea.
3.) Not sure Gingerbreak will work for your phone, but if it does and you unroot, clearly the su will not work anymore. That's what the root is all about, granting you, the user, the lowest level point of access, and if you unroot, the application will no longer be able to reach that point. So SuperUser and any other applications relying on root access, such as SetCPU or Terminal Emulator etc. will not work.
Quick question.
I couldn't make factory reset due to Clock recovery, as I stated in the first post. How should I do the "wipeout all data before start flashing" ?
My goal is to change default gmail account in order to install more apps, but I'm not able to do it because I need to factory reset. Maybe there is another way instead of fresh flashing.
Thanks.
if you are root (I think it's your case):
- install "rom manager".
- in rom manager : choose "restart in recovery"
° if you don't have recovery : it will do a factory reset
° if you havec recovery installed, use the volume key to navigate to the wipe option and wipe everything (except sd)
since now I'm in vacation so I'll do some tests this week and see if I'm able to compile an unroot process file

Hmmm...
So you should be able to use flashtool to flash the .423 kernel
Boot your phone with the .423 kernel installed and turn on dev mode and enabled usb debugging, and unknown sources under security and run the root... you're exploiting a flaw/bug in the .423 kernel to root your phone...
That will install su and then you can flash the .191 kernel (or even the .67 kernel) to get back to the latest kernel and have a rooted rom...
ok... so the root tool check's the firmware version... and when it finds the "191" firmware signature, it refuses to run... even if you're running a kernel combination that will work...

Like I wrote here,
there is no config to look for version.
Maybe Sony fixed bug 9950697 on .191.

there is no config to look for version.
Maybe Sony fixed bug 9950697 on .191.

I could very well be wrong... I was putzing around with the .191 version to try and see if I could get wifi calling working for myself on my ZL... I flashed the 191 firmware with the 67 kernel... seemed to work somewhat... except there were some quirks... I'm flashing 67 again at this point so I can re-root and restore my nandroid.... *sigh*...
On the other hand I'd guess if you can live without wifi calling, you should be able to flash .67 on a t-mobile Z and then root using DoomLoRD's method....
(oh, and for what it's worth, the quirks I saw on my ZL included that the screen wouldn't turn off completely... and that the gyro seemed to not work quite right... but wifi calling worked great...
I think the version being detected is based on the build.prop... and you could very well be right that even with the old kernel loaded it wouldn't be vulnerable...
rooted with download.cnet.com/Kingo-Android-Root/3000-2094_4-75996768.html
i originally tried another method but it didnt work out in the end so afterwards i used the above method to root. but if it doesnt work then maybe what i did was important so the steps below is what i did for the method that didnt work. (if it works with just using kingo then WOOT otherwise. the below should help cause i have the same exact phone)
you should have your phone in developer mode and have usb debugging on
i used a flash tool from d-h.st/Kb8
switched my kernel to d-h.st/1Vz
rooted with download.cnet.com/Kingo-Android-Root/3000-2094_4-75996768.html
you do this by opening flash tool. letting it install. then selecting you device and flashmode drivers.
then connect your phone to computer via usb
then click the lighting bolt in the top right in the menu bar.
a window will pop up. press the flashmode radio button then ok
another window will pop up.
on the right side of the window it will ask if you wanna wipe types of info like cache, data, applogs. if you want you can click those if not leave them blank.
then at the top you will see a browse button to browse files (i think its a ... button)
use it to find the kernel
after you do that click the flash button and follow the instructions.
the instructions are "1 unplug the phone. 2 turn off phone. 3 enter flash mode by pressing and holding the down volume button (while off). 4 connect device (still off)"
once you plug the phone back in the flash tool will exit the window you were in and be doing its process in the terminal like window in the original window.
after you do that. unplug the device and reboot it. then exit flashtool (important) and then
use the kingo android root.
it should do some installing then ask you to connect device
then just follow those instructions in which i dont have up so i cant tell you hope i helped

Can't root GT-S5570

I'm a newb, so don't jump at me if the solution is simple.
I tried rooting my Mini(GT-S5570)using different threads around here, and none worked. I have tried booting into recovery mode and installed 5 different root packages, none worked. Superoneclick is unavailable(none of the download links worked, also tried googling for it, nothing). I'd like a tutorial that can work, since i'll add some infos below why it might not work.
I am running an android version made for vodafone germany, with 4 system apps that are vodafone only and can't be deleted
maybe the version number can help :
PDA: S5570BUKT2
Phone: S5570XWKT8
CSC: S5570VCRKT2
Edit: I want to go with the "flash cwm with odin" then flash rom, but Odin doesn't pick up the phone in download mode, only in upload mode(when I boot with volume up+home+power button). I installed Kies for drivers, so I don't see how I could've gone wrong
Same issue with my friend anyone can resolved this kind of problem?
What recovery do you have? What error you get when you're trying to install the packages?

I can't use any custom recovery since I don't have it rooted(it's the default one I think), and I am not getting any error whilist installing packages, the superuser icon is there, just it still says my phone doesn't have root permissions
If you have a 2.3.6 Android, then the attached files will root (pop) and unroot your phone to your will.
"Copy the pop_2.3.6.zip file to the root of your SD Card. Make sure you do not extract the contents of the zip file. Just copy the zip file to your SD Card.
Boot your phone into recovery. To do this, turn off your phone and press the OK button and Power button. You can release the buttons when you see the Samsung Logo to enter the recovery mode.
From the recovery menu, select “Apply update from SD Card” and choose the zip file you downloaded in step 1.
Flash the zip and then choose “Reboot system now” option.
After your phone reboots, check if you have the superuser Application installed"

Oh well. Tried it, the superuser icon is there, but multiple root checker apps say it's still not rooted. Any other ideas?
Extra(edit): I have wiped any data, restoring my phone before doing the steps you listed above

Open superuser app and let it update binaries. This needs internet access, but it SHOULD be fine after that.

I updated it from market, it still doesn't work... But you said to update binaries, is there anything different than what I did?
Oh btw when I enter the superuser app it says below the "elite not installed-get elite" Su binary not found" I think that could be one of the reasons :s

"After flashing the zip, make sure you connect to internet and then it'll ask you to update superuser app. Do so and then from within superuser app, update su binaries. Then, it should work without any issues"
Some more info:
http://androidsu.com/superuser/
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.noshufou.android.su
I remember it was a bit tricky, still it seems your phone IS rooted (if you installed pop_2.3.6.zip from recovery). Updating supersu from market means the binary portion is not up-to-date, that's why IMO you have to update binaries. So click on the supersu icon, and find the "update binaries" option (needs internet connection).
If it fails, have a look at
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.noshufou.android.su.fixer
Don't remember if I needed it or not with the pop_2.3.6.zip.
BTW, if your Mini is out of warranty period, why don't you put something bloatware-free on it? (with Odin)
I can highly recommend TassNewExperience v.10.1 final2,
or newer CM 7.2 clean of 18.05.2014.
Both shall (most probably) fix your problem with rooting, both are fast, stable, battery-friendly.

I want to go with odin, since I can't update the binary from updated app, and with original app verison an error(check for new version failed) prevents me from updating. Anyone can redirect me to a thread on how to flash with odin on my phone?

Is your phone sim-locked for Vodafone network? If yes, go to Vodafone to remove sim-lock prior to anything.
Here is a decent ROM to start with (I've been using it for half a year):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1648213
and there are working links in the second post, that I followed myself, explaining howto.
Here is a more detailed guide for flashing CWM recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342190
IMHO you should put unbranded, stock Gingerbread ROM in your Mini before trying to flash CWM recovery.
Remember to make a backup of your data, my recommendation:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts
and perhaps a "dump" backup of the partition holding IMEI of your MIni (you have to look for details - keywords efs and/or stl5).

I don't think it's simlocked, since I don't have a vodafone sim and it's working perfectly, and I'll try using your stuff
Edit: i've installed kies, and when I follow the guide, it doesn't get picked up by ODIN, and the pc says it malfunctioned(the usb device) Is this related to me having windows 8?
Edit 2: I would really like some real-time assistance through skype or whatnot, since i feel like i'm always doing something wrong...and when i'm following a guide, there's always a link that's broken, or a file that's outdated, not working etc

I used Odin in WinXP, have no experience with Win8 - only heard most of the older stuff didn't work in Win8. So you might be pioneering Odin in Win8
But there is another way of rooting Android devices, introduced last year, with a universal chinese soft. As the soft is new, could work in Win8 (it only roots the devices). Don't remember the name of it, there was a lot of info on the Net in the second half of last year. It worked for some no-name tablets of my friends.

That didn't quite help me ... I guess I'll use another pc, but I'll have to wait for the school year to finish...If you find any other method that might work, make sure to post it here

Well, I'm not a pro in mobiles software - but having the info given in my last post, it's just a minute googling to find:
http://www.3ptechies.com/mobile/android/vroot-rooting-method-for-android.html
http://www.mgyun.com/en/GetVRoot
The orig. soft is in chinese, but used it without problems "the monkey way".
That gives you root - and nothing more (but should be enough to play with Android till the end of school
No help with Odin in Win8, sorry.

Weird. Perhaps (as above) it is in fact rooted. Try to unroot with unroot zip, and give a chance vroot again?
Unless there are some more residuals of previous attempts of rooting, and they interfere? Back to factory settings after unroot.
Or check which superuser u have on your Mini, and put binaries as zip from recovery? as in the first comment here:
http://androidsu.com/superuser/
And last but not least, it shouldn't be too difficult to put some old WinXP on an old disk/partition just to use Odin. And taking into account your first post "I tried rooting my Mini(GT-S5570)using different threads around here, and none worked", perhaps your Mini is so messed up that Odin is your only option?
Anyway, it's a mystery, and would really appreciate if you keep us informed of the progress.
