i'm pretty sure the Bravia engine is a chipset like on sony's tv's and not rom specific, which is why it's only available in sony phones. i have had sony phones in the past & looked recently at the expria line, the video has always been superb!
They have ported. It to phones from htc but I entirely don't know

Exactly why can't we make use of it. If it can be ported over something like the g2x why not us?

It's from the sony xperia roms, it contained some "Bravia mobile engine". Didn't really do anything.
apparently it has if it's been induced into other Roms for something but I entirely don't know

http://www.sonyericsson.com/product/xperiaarc/video/mbe/ Xperia arc mbe (mobile bravia engine) cheesy vid on the se site but might give you an idea of what it does.
http://talk.sonyericsson.com/thread/15365 Q&A on the SE forums about what the mbe really is, user asks if it's just an image enhancer software and the mod(S/E Employee) responds with
The Mobile BRAVIA (Best Resolution Audio Visual Integrated Architecture) technology is a suite of image processing technologies and offers:
Improved image quality from any signal like photos, filmed videos, YouTube videos, flash animations and websites
Clearer, sharper and more natural images
The LED back-lit Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA® Engine reduces light reflection when used outdoors.
The advantages of the BRAVIA Engine that it is a digital video processing system that produces following better image quality:
More realistic blacks
Sharper edge definition
Further noise reduction
Enhanced contrast
Advanced natural colours
Digital Reality Creation (DRC) up-scales standard definition inputs by quadrupling the number of pixels in the image source to create HD picture quality
This is the hardware used:
Our Sony Ericsson Xperia™ Mobile phones with Mobile BRAVIA technology uses a built-in Adreno 205 graphic processor with following features:
Supported APIs:
OpenGL ES 2.0
OpenGL ES 1.1
OpenVG 1.1
EGL 1.3
Direct3D Mobile
SVGT 1.2
Direct Draw
GDI
Concurrent CPU, Digital signal processing (DSP), graphics and Mini Display Port (MDP)
I hope the above information clarifies your idea on the Mobile Bravia Engine.

I know the arc etc (anything that I know I've seen the mbe running on) is using the qualcomm adreno gpu, although I'm pretty sure our sgx chips support all the API's listed above it might be a real roadblock not having that chip. Also, the software was real garbage, it was only on when you were viewing an image or your desktop or something like that, if you opened a full screen vid it shut off. Here's a dev thread where someone ported it from the arc to the play (should be the most basic port for this software since both phones use the same hardware) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1246402 Sounds like hassle for something that doesn't work when you want it to. If you really want to try it out I would download the cwm install files from the xperia play thread, unzip them, push the be_movie and be_photo to /system/etc/, chmod them to 755 just like the updater script does and add these 2 lines to your build.prop
Code:
ro.service.swiqi.supported=true
persist.service.swiqi.enable=1
This would be the quick/dirty way I would use to just see if it works personally. All the instructions I wrote came out of the updater-script from the play port basically.
I had the arc for ~2 months before getting rid of it but IIRC there were only 2 instance when the mbe was active, when viewing images with gallery and ?videos on youtube?? If I can find a system dump of the new bell firmwares(not the patch files but every time I ask for a dump someone links me patch files lol) I might take a look for you and see about popping it in a rom.
Okay thank you but seems like it's just a display enhancer could we modify it and make it universal Like a dsp manager

It may, my only concern would be that (unless it is actually working on the SGS2) is it running on any phones that aren't using the qualcomm adreno gpu? And wouldn't it/shouldn't it be much more optimized for that hardware/would we really see any benefit from it at all?

play a hd video & poor 3gp version of same video before & after applying patch.. it actually increases float frames per sec.. which helps inc. frames, noise canclation & quality. The noise canclation thing might not visible accuratly because of the poor 256k colour display units but you would notice a significant difference by hdmi out... full hd..
yes its surely workin'..
Actually this stuff is little deep than its name..
our cpu soc is actally divided into sections.. including video encoding, decoding channels, pipelines or whatever they call them.. the video playback & similar stuff is actally handled by these channels.. this follow a certain statergy... This statergy is the bravia engine which is diversed & better than the stock android statergy
Before- More Dependency is on cpu than on gpu
After- Reversed :O
So Don't ask again the same silly questions
installed .... may be found little diff ...... is there any way to kno if brabia is working

Over the DHD section, Lordclockan mention that this works as a tweak on the native SE display that supports it. On other device(s) he said it gives placebo effect only.

Lordclackan is respected personality..
but i don't think there is any placebo effect psychology in this case coz' i have read gsmarena blog.. there nothing special in those displays..
every company says their there stuff is exclusive to them always, make their ®™ & bla bla.... but this not true in each case & these are just marketing stunts... or you can say that bravia engine is a placebo effect psychology, they are not even there on actual se xperia 2011 devices they are just pushing their customers into a placebo psychology...
This is just a statergy..and yes i have stated that this might not visible on our devices coz' of poor contrast & 256k colour display...
but shows diff. by HDMI.. & they don't have HDMI LOL!!!
Frankly, I want to believe that this really works on X6
I have put a DHD and a X6 side by side. Be it that DHD's LCD is bigger, but then it's easy to tell that X6 really gives better images on it's LCD. Pixels are tighter and smoother.
So, aside for the advantage of HDMI, I think X6 will do show improvements on it's display when using this mod.
Have faith..
of topic ques. .. which camera app r u using STOCK OR OTHER ...n which u find better
Thought by an mi 410 user frm punjab
There's a Q/A, Help section, post questions there.
I don't know if this is possible. I think hardware is limited at 30fps:
https://developer.qualcomm.com/mobile-development/development-devices/snapdragon-s4-pro-apq8064-mdpt
I can't find official hardware camera specs, sorry. But maybe with a lower resolution and a custom kernel it is possible, isn't it?
Someone who knows much about this can answer us. I'm interesting in it too
Thank you!!!

I See all the thread inside the XDA, but it Seem Time Shift Video is unable to run greatly on Our Beloved XZ that can Take A Smooth Slow Mo video 120fps like XZ2 was, i do everything for what their said.. Root, Odex, Superuser Mod, But it useless.. Please someone, anything that might help.. the only thing that might help for now is install Xperia Z2 Movie Creator that can Make slow mo but not good as Time Shift Video was.. Have A Try Guys.. Search it on any thread.. I hope it would help..:good::good::good::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:
i think u can
The Snapdragon S4 Pro is not capable of capturing 720p video at 120fps, therefore timeshift video is not possible.

Moto X uses the same CPU as Xperia SP, but SP lacks slow motion recording too. I guess XZ's CPU is powerful enough to capture 120FPS at least in VGA resolution. But may be Sony do not want to put that because their latest flagships need more selling.
Who wants videos captured in 640*480 any more? It would cause more complaints that it was locked at such a low resolution than it's worth for Sony to provide the feature.

da what?
so what if it would be VGA? its still something, beside its not like you record Oscar movies using your phone... probably most of videos recorded using phone is party, fun with friends, or random events with crappy lighting. I can assure you that no matter what res you would use quality is still crappy, blurred(motion) and similar to VGA on 5" screen.
Most of my movies that I have on my phone is 720x400 and thx to good bitrate its look perfect on my xperia z.
Beside I can show you images taken using old SE k750i that would blow most of new cameras on phones. BECAUSE ALL DEPEND ON USER, I can shoot you good looking image using even pencil and some a$$ with DSLR for 3000$ would take selfi in McDonald.
VGA is still better than nothing.
Maybe to you it is better than nothing. The rest of us like our videos to look bigger than a postage stamp or not look like everything is made of Lego on other devices though.
Anyway, I was and am still mainly joking about the resolution, but my point was that I highly doubt they will bother to provide timeshift video if they have to lock it to such a low resolution, as it would just cause many complaints that you cannot use a higher resolution. You cannot expect them to backport every feature from new devices, especially if they have to cripple them to get them to even function.

can anyone port timeshift video 120fps in 480p for xperia z?
Sony BRAVIA Engine 3 Ported To The Galaxy Note II
The Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine 3 is a video enhancement program for Sony phones. It uses filters and algorithms to create a clearer and more contrasted picture and an overall smoother experience. This is perfect for the Note II's huge HD screen but can be a little to saturated for people like photographers who want to see how the photo looks exactly with out any enhancements. The change is not huge but is definitely noticeable if two devices are compared. This program is very light weight and works with all models of the Note II so far.
While the latest BRAVIA ENGINE 3 builds on tried and tested BRAVIA ENGINE technology, it does so with the advantage of a new picture processing software.
This new technology has allowed BRAVIA ENGINE to improve - even in respect to its own dazzling performance:
Contrast. Increased depth and clarity, as well as new light control technology to control peak brightness levels, means stunning images even on the brightest of scenes.
Colours. New colour histogram technology detects and optimises overall colour distribution of each frame. This technology delivers breathtaking colour by making millions of improvements to each frame before you even see it.
Detail. Advanced Noise Reduction lies behind BRAVIA’s ability to show you every blade of grass on a football pitch and really put you at the heart of the action.

What about videos ? I mean recording a video ? Does it look better ? colors and contrast ?
I will never understand those who want to ruin the real colors. For me, the screen is supposed to give the best reproduction of the real colors.
Lie will never be better than the truth - even when the photo/video is creepy.

I found a video about X-Reality, explaining what it is and what it does.

Is it worth the port? Is it good?

My Personal TestingSo after a few testing with Bravia Engine 2 and X-Reality,
I found out that there's not much difference in the quality.
I can't provide proof. That's why I want to discuss this with you all.
Actually, you cannot compare it with "unofficial" device
The best compare, it's with real device which support X-Reality engine
Also GPU and display density can make soo much different

Yeah and its almost nothing compared to Amoled
True but from time to time, Bravia Engine 2 actually makes the screen looks much sharper than Super Amoled.
Sent from my LT25i using Tapatalk 2
Have you taken the time to look at one of the recent Amoled devices from Samsung like the Note 2 or Gs3 there actually a bit on the dull side at times there screens don't have as much pop as the older Amoled screens of the past though there is defiantly some improvements as so as the Gs4 as well with it being even sharper with a better colour range or something the Trluminus for mobile is at least a decent display I'm sure it won't disappoint to bad I'm hoping and waiting for Sony to launch a device again compact like the ZL but like the Z1 in the spec department before I buy another Sony smartphone .
Hello everyone,
Today i got my z1, after being a gs3 user for almost two years.
All day today i've been educating myself around unlocking, flashing tools etc, as z1 and s3 are a little bit different.
I would like to ask a question, after flashing a cm based rom i noticed that the colors on the screen are a little bit washed-out comaring when on stock rom.
Is it me or is this really happening? And if so.. is there anyway to edit the contrast or sharpness or maybe implement the bravia engine to cm11 rom?
Thanks in advance
thats because x reality is gone acter u install cm/AOSP....xreality tweaks the display slightly to increase colour reproduction

X-reality (Bravia Engine for you) only works in select Sony apps with pictures and videos only anyway, it doesn't apply its effects to the screen. Main difference is probably the video drivers used in CM as opposed to the proprietary Sony ones on Sony ROMs. There's no way around it probably unless you know about kernel coding. (maybe)

In kitkat update.... Xreality also works in a 3rd party app like mx player......but yes.. The grphics driver seem to be a better explanation
