When i create a backup in cwm, it creates backups of everything. Can i delete all the files and just keep the data file and restore just that to get back my data if i reflash?
Basicly, what files do i need to keep to restore just data when i reflash a wipe rom?
Just hate having thewse huge files sitting on the phone for no reason
I guess you can delete for example system image, and be able to restore data. You have to try it to be sure
BUT when you reflash and something goes wrong you may need to restore not only data. So it is better to have all these files, just for safety.

Hi all, firstly Im sorry for this stupid question but I cant figure it out, I want to do a factory reset, I have installed titanium backup but cannot understand what to do. If I make a backup, then factory reset wont i lose all my backups and titanium backup itself? so my question is how to do a backup of all my apps and stuff, then how to reinstall them, really hope you can explain this to me as i seem to have loads of things on my internal sd card and want to clean up but dont know how thanks
TitaniumBackup usually backups your stuff to sdcard, which should not get wiped by a factory reset. To be 100% safe you can copy the backup folder to your computer.
After the reset you will have to download titaniumbackup from market again and then you can restore what you want to restore.
EDIT: read your post again ;-).
Your /sdcard/ will not get cleaned by a factory reset.
To get everything SUPER clean, you would have to copy the backupped stuff to your computer, flash a WIPE ROM (or install stock rom and repartition).
Then you have to copy the backup from your computer to your phone install titanium again and restore your things.
If you dont use the same rom titanium could have problems restoring somethings.

I just flashed a new rom -Stocklite 7.1
This is my first attempt at flashing a ROM so bare with me.
I created a Nandroid backup prior to flashing and I also copied the entire contents of the SD card over to my computer.
I am using Link2SD and an ext partion as well.
Flashed succesfully. However none of my previous apps / data show up, this was slightly unexpected. I attempted to peform a nandroid data only backup to get these by going to recovery mode then advanced data only restore.
But i got an md5 mismatch.
Basically.
I am trying to restore my apps / data and I want to keep the stocklite 7.1 ROM. NOT a full restore.
Any help?
I recommend using titanium backup for backing up your apps. But, you can probably get user apps by coppying/flashing them to where they belong.
Options:
1 go back to stock rom by restoring your stock backup, make a backup using titanium backup, flash stock lite, install titanium backup, restore your apps. To succesfully restore your stock nandroid backup use te ext4 manager app, convert system to rfs, go to recovery, restore.
2 - open your stock backup on your computer with unpacking or iso software (like 7 zip), extract your user apps (apk files), create a flashable zip to flash them to data/app, system/app as needed. You can also flash their libs and data files to data/data and dalvik-cache to data/dalvik-cache. That should restore user apps and their data to internal memory if you don't want to use titanium backup.
You lost all your data..you should have a taken app backups with Titanium Backup,Nandroid isn't enough.
MD5 mismatch is showing up because you changed the name of the backup folder ..
You can open the backup manually, and get all the data.It might or not work,that would depend oon your luck

If your're using B03, the latest safestrap, then everything except the "data/media" folder is backed up, which is your internal storage. As long as you only "Swipe factory Reset" and just flash a ROM, and do not "Format" or "Wipe" data, then your storage will not be wiped, and will always be there. Backing up "Data" will backup everything else including your Settings, SMS, and Contacts, so a full restore from that backup (Restoring System, Cache, Data) should bring your phone back to the exact state where it was in before you did the backup.
If you're using B01, the first safestrap, then everything else is the same, except "data/media" is also backed up, which can make the backup much larger.

So, somehow I got my phone into a bootloop, and I made a backup of my data partition with TWRP. I reset it, and tried to restore the data partition, and the corrupted file is in there (was trying to edit settings.db for hotspot on Sprint). Anyways, when I restore the data partition, it bootloops again. So I want to get into the backup, and replace the bad settings.db file so I can restore the partition and have all my data back. How can I browse the backup using my windows 8.1 pc?

you cant. why are you restoring your data partition? that wont boot up, since its system that you edited. restore the whole nandroid backup, boot, system, and data. and if you didnt make a backup of boot or system, then reflash your rom to fix it. flash it dirty, as to not lose your data. and if you dont have a rom to flash, then youre stuck having to flash the factory img.

I only did data. The backup was AFTER it was in the bootloop, so I only backed up data.

ahh.. then in no way will it get restored, since its the system partion that you actually messed with. data just holds all your user data, thats all.

That is EXACTLY what I want to restore. All my apps, settings, pictures, etc etc etc.
I've got the phone factory reset, on and working.

now you can try to restore your data. your sd card stugf, like photos, dont get deleted until you wipe or format your storage.

well, unfortunately, it doesnt seem to be a good back up
if you factory rest again, have google restore your stuff. itll restore your apps, and main settings, and even wallpaper. and your photos are in your storage already. unless you didnt have it enabled to back up everything in the main settings.

I have never had luck with auto backup. It doesn't seem to capture everything. Plus there were things that I stored on internal storage (used to be my SD card on my Samsung phones ) that wouldn't have been backed up, like my Pokemon saved game. I knew I should have copied my internal storage before trying to restore, but I thought the data backup would have done it. Great.

Edit: thats on device only, sorry about that. I had an issue in the past where I didn't have any apps saved via TiBu and had only a TWRP backup. Installed a clean ROM, rooted and then used the app posted to browse the backup on my phone and restore the vital apps that I needed. (Like google authenticator)... Good luck
I'm planning to backup my current ROM using TWRP before switching over to another one. If I selected everything on the TWRP backup screen, how much data will this include? Will I be able to restore it and have everything run exactly the same as it is now? App data? Files? System settings?

It does NOT backup everything. TWRP only backups the operating system. If you flash the wrong file or change the wrong setting, which can / will cause bricks, then TWRP is used to restore the OS to the original state you backed up. Internal storage files are not backed up, nor app data.

Ah I see, so I have to backup files manually, but the app data too? I was under the impression that the so-called NANDroid backups at least includes app data

Yes, it will backup app data. Btw, you really need to select the boot, system, and data partitions. For the other partitions, you can keep separate backups (in case of a bad restore). On that note, your first restore might appear broken; try restarting the phone; it should boot fine the next time around.
