Galaxy note home button - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anybody's home button become really hard to push down?
When I push mine down, the initial click does not do anything, I have to further press down on the button pretty firmly.

Mine is fine, an easy press. Sounds like it's misaligned a bit.

A little update: the home button has completely stopped working
If it is misaligned, do you know how I could align it back?
I disassembled the my note today, but the button is actually part of the screen module and I did not want to take that apart.
Thanks.

Mine is also working great. I think you may consider sending it to Samsung to check it out

Yeah, I think that's what will most likely have to happen.
I purchased the phone from handtec and I've already sent them an email asking about the warranty and sending it back for repair.
I just hope the return postage won't cost an arm and a leg.

Mine is fine too.

This is why I'm afraid of buying an international version, I hate physical buttons because they can break or wear down. I also want the exzynos processor though, so I don't know if I should get the AT&T version.

Well good luck with the AT&T version then since you only have one way to wake it up

Well I got the Infuse 4G now, so I only have one way anyhow. lol Do you know if CM9 has an option to add screen buttons? If so, then who cares if the Home button dies? I'll just use on screen.

In my opinion, use your phone heavily for the first 30 days. If it doesn't break by then, you've surely had a 95% chance of getting any manufacturing defects out of the way. The rest will just be usual wear and tear.
I mean, you do know that the homescreen button was likely designed to survive a crap load of presses right? Like thousands and thousands of presses.
Think of button phones not too long ago. I was sporting a w800i that lasted 4 years and the buttons were all functioning (and still do today but it's in cold storage) and I was pressing them almost unconsciously even though the phone was locked. It ain't that hard to just transfer those old school tech over.
Just pick one, and enjoy the phone. But strictly probability speaking, your AT&T power button should wear out faster. =)

Very true, and you're right about the power button. I am using the Inspire, I not the Infuse, and the lock button has started wearing off so it's harder to press.

The power button on the One

Picked up a One on Saturday, so its still brand new. This morning, I noticed that the power button doesn't 'click' any more. Looking closely, the button seems to be recessed slightly towards the screen. It still turns on the phone, but I have to apply direct pressure with my finger nail.
As I recall, my old Thunderbolt had a weak power button that broke for many people, but the One's button at least looked more resilient. Anyone else seeing this, is it a known issue?
I'm still fully stock and unrooted, debating whether or not I should visit the T-Mobile store and inquire about a replacement. It does have the insurance on it as well.
I haven't heard of anyone complaining of a semi-dead power button yet,. but you should send it back for a warranty claim
At a slightly tipsy moment I thought my power button had fell out, then realised phone upside down...

Haha, I did that too!
The power button should protrude from the plastic on all sides, but only a very tiny bit. If it is recessed at all then it is defective. You should exchange it as I think the problem will only get worse.

Yeah, it already is. Its been getting increasingly difficult to get the display on all day.
I stopped at the TMO store I bought it from this morning to compared it to their display model's button. Its pretty obvious. Unfortunately, they had no stock to replace it with. Its expected to arrive on Weds or Thurs. Hopefully, this is a one time thing.
It is going to be flushed soon with the phone.
I rooted it and installed kernel that enable sweep2wake, etc.
So, Tuesday, when I visited the TMO store, the rep acknowledged the power button as clearly broken and defective, but he had no stock of Ones to replace it with. Today, I called head to verify that they'd received their shipment and had stock.
And I'm pretty sure I ended up speaking with the village idiot. According to her, the power button is not broken because the phone still turns on. Nevermind that you can turn on their floor model with a simple tap with the fleshy part of your finger and mine requires a forceful press with the finger nail. Again, according to her, she could exchange it would require a restocking fee of 50 dollars, something thats apparently hard wired into their sales system and which requires a manager override to get around. When I inquired why they'd knowingly put a defective/broken device back on the shelf for sale, she reiterated that its not broken. Because the screen still turns on. So, I guess under her logic a cracked screen isn't broken if it can still display an image?
I wasn't going to spend an afternoon arguing with her either, since I had to get to work and the manager was off site at a meeting. I confirmed that he would be present tomorrow morning, when I return. Again, which would be my 3rd visit for this, not counting the initial purchase.
If they refuse, then its what? A refurb through insurance or a refurb through HTC? My annoyance meter is definitely rising, and if this isn't resolved correctly tomorrow morning, I'm going to write a strongly worded letter to corporate. And I have the names and business cards of the two individuals who sold me the phone, handling the phone number porting and account set up, as well as the name of the poor rep I spoke with today.

Thats from the AT review in April. My power button does not look like that. It is not raised at all, its actually recessed/below from the surrounding material. My morning with the village idiot has had me stewing all day. :/ The finger nail and force required to hit my power button has scratched the hell out of the IR surface of the button . . . not sure if that'll impact the quality of the IR blaster. But these scratches are quite visible and the phone's not even a week old yet. What would it look like in a month? 6 months? 24 months? I did leave a grandfathered unlimited contract on Verizon to come to TMO . . .thats a one way trip. Annoyance meter currently at 6/10.
I'm on Sprint, but I was outside my 14 day return and noticed one part of my screen was raised up and the other side was recessed slightly. On the 19th day I called Sprint Corporate and had them verify inventory at the Corporate store I purchased it from, then explained my issue over the phone to them. While talking to Sprint CS, I asked for an appointment. She called ahead and when I got there and showed them my screen issue. I stayed firm and asked the manger to compare to new out of the box device. This one was worse. So we ends up with 5 phones on the table and I chose the best of them. Took work but I stead fast and stayed firm. You are a customer. T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon are the distributor. 30 days is a typical cut of date for a manufacturers warranty. The cell carrier will simple submit the phone to HTC for defective issues....

Wheww. Was in the TMO store again this morning. Got a rep with an actual brain in his head. Took him 30 seconds to look at my power button and confirm that it was indeed defective. Swapped the SIM into a replacement, factory reset the old one, printed a new receipt to confirm the swap, bang, done. In and out in 15 minutes, no warranty processing fees or BS restocking fees.
This power button appears to be solid. Now my root timer resets, 30 days. Heh, conveniently right after the One Google Edition launches.

Warranty/replacement through Sprint?

Hi everybody,
A hard brick had forced me to send my phone to HTC to get is fixed. They opened it up and replaced the main board. However, they messed up the power button so that now it is recessed about 0.5 - 1 mm in the plastic. It is pretty hard to press, sometimes requiring 2-3 presses to register anything. It is really hard to take screenshots and to power up/down. They also scratched the back (not severely), though this is not the basis of my complaints.
I currently have 3 options:
1) Send it back to HTC
-they'll pay for shipping (not sure about insurance, though)
-they may say my phone has no issue
-they might charge me money if the latter happens.
-they might screw up my phone and/or scratch it up like last time
2) Go to a Sprint store (preferred)
-my local one, sprint by Ca wireless said they only deal with those who have insurance, which I don't have
-they may say that it's not their problem if HTC did it
-if I don't tell them that, they might think it's my fault and tell me to go away
-it would be nice if Sprint would just replace my phone with a nice refurb
3) Just suck it up
-i don't like the prospect of having to suck stuff up when it comes to $600 phones
-it is really hard to press the button and I don't think I'll ever get used to it
-i realize most of you will say this is the best, but I think HTC is a sad, sad company if so.

I say 3, but just root and install quickboot (that way you never have to use the power button)
optioin 2 if there is another sprint store within an hour (i had to drive an hour to get a replacement due to issue with my htc one)

Lucky me, I have a sprint store within 10 miles!
So, you don't think they'll reject my claim because it was HTC's fault, right? If they would replace my phone with a refurbished One, I would be so happy!

Power Button Wake Up Delay

Hello,
Just bought the HTC One three days ago. Everything's been fine with it, until this morning. I barely have installed any apps, I have like 7 pictures, and some music.
Whenever my phone is asleep, or the screen is "off", I hit the power button to wake it up, and seriously, without exaggerating, my wait is anywhere from 3 seconds to 6. I've already tried a hard reset and a soft reset.
Does anyone know the cause of this? Has this happened to anyone else? I can't seem to find ANYTHING on it. I'm aware a little lag is ok, but 5 seconds? Seriously? That seems unreasonable.
Call it a wake up delay, wake up lag, power button lag, power button delay, whatever.
I'm seriously concerned and doubting this phone at this point. I can already imagine the headache its going to be to convince Sprint or HTC its defective.
Go back to Sprint before the 14 days expire.
A lot of us are learning the hard way how bad HTC is, and how little care they have for quality.
When you get a good One, you have a great phone. Like, best in the business. Amazing, even. Good luck getting a good One.
Well, so far I see you guys have a love/hate relationship with HTC. Does anyone have a similar experience with my problem, though? :crying:

*If
I've heard that some people had to go through 5 replacements before they got a device that was only minorly defective.
OP, you have entered the world of HTC (or a lot of Android hardware in general). Now you are stuck in it for 2 years. Take a deep breath, and lower your standards.
Damn. I'm not liking where this is going. I just can't believe no one else has had this problem. I can't find anything on it.
If they don't let you exchange it (which they definitely should), then try rooting it and using a different ROM. Idk if that would help seeing as you're on stock and the ROM should work perfectly

Does your volume click if touched lightly?

It's almost like if I touch it, or it touching something on my desk, it clicks... like a one time rattle sound. I assume this is just because it is removable to get to the SIM.
Nitpicking for sure, just wanted to see if it was normal Wouldn't dare to trade for another for this, lol.

Not for me. Mine are a bit stiff tbh. I actually find them not responsive enough and kind of hard to find the spot on each. May just be my short time with it, but i hate how there isnt atleast a little dimple over where each actuation point is.
And because of the way its designed with the sim behind the rocker...it doesn't really "rock". You have to change your thumb position to raise and lower volume.
I know im nit picking but it was one to the first things I noticed since I use it to play music in my car and finding the best output volume on my phone with my car setup.

Mine doesn't. Maybe yours isn't in right. Maybe remove it and re install it?
Might try that.
Here's another question: can any press vol up and vol down at the same time? I can't, and I noticed it because I booted into recovery to clear my cache and couldn't get past the no command screen.

Nokia 8 physical buttons hard to press?

Hello,
I got my Nokia 8 a few days ago and I don't know if it's the same for everyone but my volume up/down buttons are very hard to press depending on the angle I use to push on them. It's alright when there is no case on the phone, but with one of my cases it's very hard to press and with the other one I just can't use these buttons at all.
I was wondering if it was a fault with my phone or if they're all made like this.
Thanks for the help!
Hmm, at my side all is fine. For me it's nearly the same as at my HTC 10.
Yes, my powerbutton has to be pressed at a very specific angle upwards towards the screen. If pressed level with the side it doesn't depress without excessive force and makes a really nasty sound when you do this.
I would return it and demand a replacement instantly. All buttons work perfectly on mine.

I returned my phone but due to **** regulations in this godforsaken home of Nokia I had to send it to Warranty Service (a DOA device so to say).
This is **** customer service on all levels but that is not Nokia (HMD's) fault as so but the store I purchased it from.
Mine works fine too.
Im using my Nokia 8 with a Terrapin Nokia 8 Case
I sent mine back yesterday so hopefully should get a fully working one soon.

Very same issue here. The buttons are kind of sunk in the side of the device, it's a bit weird, and some of the cases can't cope. Annoying, to say the least.

I made a little hole into the case. Now it works. It is a cheap case, so I am not really bothered.
Thank you anyway, I don't know why I didn't even think of sending it back.
