Hi,
Have you made a Nandroid backup before installing this kernel? As far as I know, a Nandroid restore also restore Recovery.
Another possible solution, have you tried flashing, via Odin, I9000XWJVZ stock firmware (you can download it from sammobile.com).
In any case, consider doing a Nandroid backup before any action on your phone.
Hope it might help you.

1-restoring a nand backup won't bring back the old recovery as the nand backup was made through CWM. if u have a nand backup u can restore it and push (with dd codes and terminal emulator, through odin, recovery flashable zips etc..) these 2 files boot.img and recovery.img extracted from a stock rom-same version as ur nand backup. (just be careful u push them in the right place)
2-Flashing a stock rom through odin will get u back to stock recovery.

In ClockwordMod recovery mode, you access it in "Backup" menu.

so if i flash a stock rom with odin(pda, phone, csc) it will bring everything back?

Here is what I would do to flash a stock ROM:
- Back up all your apps using Titanium Backup or Backup Everything (found on Android market)
- Back up all your SMS using SMS Backup (found on Android market)
- Shut down phone
- Enter recovery mode using 3 buttons combo (Volume Up + Home + Power)
- Make a Nandroid backup (Menu Backup & Restore > Backup), it will create a full image of your actual ROM in your SD card (folder clockworkmod > backups)
- Reboot
- Plug USB cable in (Connect your phone to computer)
- Copy all those new backup datas to a computer
- Ensure your battery is full
- Unplug USB cable (Disconnect from computer)
- Shutdown phone
- Enter download mode using 3 buttons combo (Volume down + Home + Power)
- Start ODIN, Make sure that the 'Re-Partition' option in ODIN is checked.
- In ODIN, select the files in PIT, PDA, CSC and PHONE: (example file names)
.PIT: s1_odin_20100512.pit
PDA: CODE_***.tar
PHONE: MODEM_***.tar
CSC: CSC_***.tar- Plug USB cable in your phone (connect to computer), a yellow box and a message "Added!" should appear in Odin.
- Click on Start.
- Do NOT touch anyhting while downloading.
- When phone reboots, disconnect the phone from the computer.
There you will have a stock ROM, stock recovery, just like when it was when leaving factory.
Optionnaly:
- Restore your SMS (via SMS Backup app)
- Restore some apps (via Titanium Backup / Backup Everything app)
---------- Post added at 09:18 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:03 AM ----------
And make sure Samsung Kies isn't running if it's installed on your computer.
> If anyone would like to confirm this procedure, It would be nice!

As it was said, the best way to get stock recovery is to install stock ROM via ODIN.
But I think that it should be enough to flash stock kernel only, not the whole ROM.

ok thank you all

Ok I have a root now ,
when I rebooted my note to recovery I get this : Android system recovery <3e>
It looks like CWM but has no backup and restore options and thats why Iam confused
How I can get the CWM I used to use with my HTC Sensation
It looks like you only did root when what you wanted was root + CWM.
Go back to Dr.Ketan's guide and look at the procedure below this line that is in the first post:
-----------------------------------------Forget all Above and follow simple Step below------------------------------

My summary of your best options:
Follow from Step 2 and use the already-rooted.bat file
OR
The better (in my opinion) way:
Purchase Mobile Odin Pro(MOP) from the market and go get the CF Root Kernel that matches your firmware to get CWM. Just put the Kernel on your sdcard and run MOP, make sure EverRoot and all injections are checked, select file, find kernel, flash. Done.
MOP has also enabled us to retain root when flashing stock firmware updates by using the EverRoot and injections options, however you will lose most CWM functions when this is done. To regain CWM, you simply follow the same steps as above to update to a matching CF Root Kernel.
Have fun, and be sure to hit the thanks button for Ketan and Chainfire!
Dear beestee,
So: I have Kernel KK2 - Download This - and Extract
then : I am Already Rooted - Execute "already-rooted.bat" and follow the instructions
is there any side effects ? like format ot can not Upgrade via OTA or else?
Is there any thing need to be packed up first? like the original kernel if this method will change it
Nothin side effect, you can upgrade over OTA, BUT If you update over OTA/kies, you will lose Root.
So you have to use CWM or Mobile odin to update newer ROM

Ok I done it and it working, but I found that CWM is a program now you can access from phone not like in HTC where you must inter bootloader and MAGLDR to inter CWM
I can make the backup and restore from inside the program - right?
You can get it with entering recovery too, you have to press Home + Vol UP + Power to enter in recovery mode.
you can simply do it with inside app - restart in recovery
when you give command to backup, it will restart and auto enter in recovery mode and finish it

[Q] Questions before flashing

Okay, I want to start with flashing ROMs other than my current one (KK5), but before I start, I want to check few things...
What I got:
-rooted my phone using Zerg Rush method (Dr.Ketan's tutorial), which gave me CWM Manager
-selected Create backup in CWM Manager, which rebooted my phone into recovery and made nandroid backup on my external card
-copied nandroid backup from card to a safe place on PC
-bought Mobile Odin Pro
What I want:
-to try other and newer stock roms for start
-after that some custom roms, maybe ICS leak, but nothing that involves flashing custom recovery, or using PC Odin that will increase my binary counter
What I want to know:
1) is mobile odin sufficient for flashing stock ROMs and most of the custom roms?
2) if I decide to return my phone to previous state (other than flashing stock ROM), I should only restore nandroid backup I made ?
3) what will the nandroid backup restore ? ROM, kernel, installed apps and user data, or only apps and data ?
Thanks in advance

1) Mobile Odin is the only way for you to flash new stock Roms without increasing your binary counter and getting the yellow triangle, so yes.
2) yes
3) Nandroid restore will give you everything back just the way it was when the backup was made: Rom, kernel, modem, user apps, user data, everything.
isn't it that custom roms should be installed only via cwm and not mobile odin?
custom = cwm
stock = mobile odin

PC odin is safe to flash stock ROM of course. But it will erase Root.
I never flashed ROMs via (mobile)odin. Only via CWM Recovery - works fine for me, no triangle (not sure about binary counter though)

Hi Again,
Iv`e followed the instructions for rooting :
Preparations:
So, if your ready to go ahead and root your device, you need to take some preparatory steps given below:
•The first thing you should do before any such operation with your device is to backup all data stored on your device. You should sync your contacts, APN settings, messages, settings, etc. Use a good backup app to secure all important data of your Galaxy Note GT-N7000. You can find hundreds of paid/free apps at the Google Play Store.
•Charge your device’s battery to at least 70% level. Sufficient battery will ensure that your device does not turns off in the middle of things.
•Open Settings on your device and turn on USB Debugging: Settings> Developer Options> USB Debugging.
•Download Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Rooting Package: CWM.zip (do not extract)
CWM-SuperSU-v0.87.zip (do not extract)
Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Rooting Package (All files in One Zip) (extract)
•Now connect you device to the computer via USB cable and copy the three files to the root directory of your device’s external SD Card.
And it asked if i wanted to overwrite the ones i already had on it.
The only thing i did different this time is i forgot to turn on the USB debugging, does this matter as i already had it on there.
Thanks

go to play store and install root checker and verify if you have root access. If yes then install. mobile odin and change your kernel to hydracore or philz. The boot into recovery and you will get cwmr based recovery.
now go to backup and restore

now it will start making the nandroid backup

[Q] Help restoring my rooted Galaxy Note n7000 to stock status.

Hi there,
I have a rooted Galaxy Note N7000 running JellyBean 4.1.2. and I've got a ton of apps/photos/videos/messages... etc.
and I've sensed the phone is getting slow. I've removed all the unnecessary apps and deleted photos/videos etc..
but its still slow.
so anyway I decided to start from scratch, I decided to unroot the phone and install a stock rom. delete all photos/videos/apps.. everything.
so I downloaded the official latest stock rom released from samsung for my region. (N7000JPLSB_N7000OJPLSB_XSG)
and I've looked at many many pages on the internet and some site different methods than other, which got confusing.
finally i decided i'd go with the method mentioned in this page:
rootgalaxynote(dot)com/galaxy-note-unroot/how-to-unroot-galaxy-note-gt-n7000/
(sorry for the link formatting it wouldn't let me post a url)
the problem is, at the end of the page it says to do a “Wipe data/factory reset”. However, I have read on many sites and threads that you should never do a factory reset on stock Rom!
So now i'm confused.
1- is the method mentioned in the page i linked above correct and safe?
2- will the method above delete everything? ie: photos/videos/apps.. etc (which is what i want) if not, how do i achieve that?
3- do i do a Wipe data/factory reset? or not?
Thanks in advance.

Flash Philz kernel and boot into cwm recovery. The go to mounts and storage and format system, data, cache and preload. This will completely erase the trace of old system. Then go back to advanced menu and choose reboot download. Then flash the rom as per reply by above member.
Before doing this just make sure you have a working usb connection because after the steps there won't the any rom on phone to boot till you flash the new now.

Yes, use tar.md5 file with Odin PC as previously shown.
That file is Philz kernel and add ROOT by default. To avoid root add, use philz_installer.cfg as indicated in the Philz thread.
Ok great, thank you for all the help.
i just hope i don't brick the phone
HI just one last fast question please...
as for philz_installer.cfg it says to put it in /sdcard/clockworkmod/philz_installer.cfg
but i don't have a clockworkmod folder.
should i create it? or put on directly on /sdcard main folder?
Don't use the tar file. It will cause a yellow triangle. Use the zip version. Place it on external sd card. Don't worry about cfg file for now. Boot into recovery and choose apply update from external storage. Choose the zip and flash. After it completes, click on reboot system. The again boot into recovery and you should see cwm

Don't use the tar file. It will cause a yellow triangle. Use the zip version. Place it on external sd card. Don't worry about cfg file for now. I've often used Odin PC to flash new ROM's, for example Stock LT4 and Stock LT5, no problem, no yellow triangle. To avoid it in the future, please explain when and why we get the trouble triangle yellow. Thanks.:good:
you will get a yellow triangle if you flash anything else that stock roms using PC odin. you will also get an increased counter. nothing to worry if you are out of warranty though

i did that before and i'm on Ginger now
but ican't return to jelly it crashed all times
up
please help
* Use Odin 3.07 for JB not 1.85,
* Download THIS firmware and extract from zip,
* Make sure you installed drivers (ODIN should say "Added" when you connect your phone in download mode)
* Open ODIN and give the tar file (you extracted) to PDA section,
* Close the device then go into download mode and connect device to PC, (and again ODIN should say "Added")
* Flash
- after flashing phone probably go into bootlop so remove the battery and go to the recovery mode (VolUp-Home-Power) choose WIPE DATA / FACTORY RESET (This one wipe your apps not internal storage)
it can't help
i did that and the wizard crashed again no change
up up please hellllllllp
i will burn this mobile
Install JB, go to recovery ,do a factory reset.

What cwm did you used? Temp one?
Try this: put some JB stock based ROM on your sd, open CWM and do factory reset and wipe everything you see (cache, dalvik, system, preload...). After that install ROM.

Try to mount prelaod in recovery, and flash it again. If that do not help, download gapps for 4.1.2 and flash it. Maybe it is because of wrong gapps, left from CM.

Thanks God
there is a hope
but i'm sorry i can't understand this
On another device (same model and region) I did:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 of=/sdcard/modemfs.img.md5
Copied generated file to my sdcard and did:
dd if=/sdcard/modemfs.img.md5 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2
Reboot and it's done.
how i use this codes and which one i must use
and is it in terminal program ?
my baseband is oK and 3G is oK how i do that solution ?
sorry for bad english
Make all wipes including fix permissions in cwm temporaly in 4.1.2, a counter going to start after fix permissions... so extract the battery, and then flash a stock jb via odin...
Sorry for my bad english

If you don't have any baseband or 3g problem the steps should be:
1)downgrade to GB 2.3.6, you can try downgrading with ODIN 1.85 with 3 files (PDA, PIT, CSC) and checking the "re-partition" option (be carefull, this will erase the "sdcard0" internal phone memory!, make a backup if you have personal stuff there). If EVERYTHING works well, (even 3g and baseband) continue to:
2) flash JB 4.1.2 stock with odin (a newer one if you have it) only with PDA (without checking re-partition!) and that should work well.
If you have back ups made with CWM or TWPR: flash your custom recovery from stock recovery and then root.
Good luck!

Well. When I had that problem I wasn't sure if wizard and baseband problem was related, but both things fixed when I replaced my modemfs with one from my friend.
If you want to try the same (at your own risk), you have to:
1) have a rooted GB (there are guides all over the internet)
2) download the file: goo.gl/DzAjza (it is from company: Claro, Argentina, UBLD1, I'm sure it is not "device specific" but I'm not sure if it is "carrier specific") and put it in your phone.
3) install any Terminal app from playstore
4) in terminal write:
"su" (to get super user privileges)
and then:
dd if=/sdcard/modemfs.img.md5 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2
assuming that you put the file in your sdcard. (write carefully!!! you can mess it up hard if you misstype here)
then reboot and check if everything work properly, if yes, try flashing JB with Odin again and cross fingers.
Good luck!
