[Q] Flashing ROM onto HD7 - HD7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am confused on the process before flashing a ROM onto the HD7, can someone tell me the process step by step? I need to Homebrew my HD7 ASAP.

Plenty of info if you read the development forum. Specifically, the first couple posts for the ROM threads usually have complete instructions

tutorial in my signature.

For some reason it doesn't pop up "Serial" or "USB" on the white space in Bootloader. Is there a reason why is that? All the drivers is downloaded and updated.

doing something wrong.... enter bootloader, then plug phone to pc
have a gr8 day

Did all of that but it end up not connected.
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium

what does it say while in the Bootloader?

Doesn't say anything at all. It show them color with system(SPL) info in the first bar then the SD partition in the second bar. But the white bar where it supposedly have the "USB" or "Serial" in text there when the usb is connected but it doesn't.

hmm, could you take a picture of your device while it's in the Bootloader?

Well here you go, the USB is connected as you can see.

well, doesn't look like your device is Full or Half Bricked...
does your device charge when on & connected to PC? does it connect to Zune?
perhaps all the needed drivers aren't installed? i.e. Active Sync / Windows Mobile Device Center
haven't ever seen a non-Bricked device that wouldn't show Serial / USB while in Bootloader.
maybe try Step 7a on the tutorial i wrote? link in my signature.
or ask in the WP7 Dev & Hacking forum, here.
sorry, i can't be of more help.
regards,
sh4d0w86.

A friend of mine experienced the exact issue you're having with his phone.. No text in the white box.. I took a chance & simply started up in bootloader, linked to pc via usb cable, then attempted a flash. It worked fine.. I'm not making any promises though because I still haven't been able to find an answer as to what causes the phone to not display the text in the white-box.. Maybe the text is here, but the font color is white for whatever reason.. I honestly don't know, just thought I'd report to you that I was able to flash the device successfully...
If you're flashing a custom rom for the first time please take Sh4d0w86's advice and read his tutorial first.. PM me if you need the step-by-step method..

[Q] Problem rooting Stock froyo captivate

Hi All,
I just purchased my Captivate yesterday from Costco (Expecting to still get the 2.4 Eclair) but unfortunately I got the Froyo 2.2 on my new captivate.
I tried rooting it using superoneClick and it just gets stuck on "Waiting for Device". I have drivers properly installed on my windows 7 64 bit machine (because I can use the phone and access its internal SD card).
Can anyone have suggestion or faced similar problems?
I have tried disabling/re-enabling usb debgging while it says "Waiting for the device"
Search the forum. There are a few threads floating around on different ways to root the stock froyo build. I don't know why the superoneclick wont work in your case but a search will turn up some info for you.
thanks. I will search the the threads and will post my results here in this thread for someone like me struggling with the same problem.
If you were planning on flashing a custom ROM after rooting anyway, you could use Odin one-click from download mode to flash 2.1 eclair, and then go from there.
Are you sure you are enabling debugging? I just used superoneclick on my phone last night after I flashe dback to stock.
First thing I do is change the phone in settings to - Ask on Connection, then I enable debugging.
Also you could try a different USB port on your computer and also make sure you have all of your necessary drivers installed.
I hope you get it figured out!
PeteSeiler2010: I haven't tried different USB port yet. I will try tonight and see if it goes through.
For usb debugging, I tried that as I mentioned. Let me just conform what I did. When it says "Waiting for device" for several seconds, I disconnected USB cable from either phone or computer (because it says that if you are stuck on "waiting for device", disable and re-enable usb debugging) because without disconnecting the cable, phone didn't let me disable the USB debugging..
So looks like I am missing something here??

want a much easier method? install speedmod kernel using odin, reboot into recovery, advanced features (not the CWM version), and choose the option that says something like "root phone" and choose the "simple" option. congratulations, you are now rooted and running a custom kernel with CWM that can install a custom ROM.
next time, please do not post this in development as this has NOTHING to do with development. Q&A or general next time, please.
How did someone with no posts, post a question in this section? I thought you had to have a minimum of 10 posts to post in here.
I am sorry if I have missed that rule for the new posting but I am new (just two days old) into the android world and for the xda forums as well..

I really appreciate all of you guys work and I didn't mean to offend any one by posting the thread here.
I already apologize for missing the rule for the 10 minimum posts on forum before posting.
I rooted my device successfully by using odin. Thanks all of you for the suggestions.

[Q] One Click Unbrick questions

I have done the unfortunate thing and bricked my phone, now I did see a post in here on this subject but I am not able to open this program/app on either Ubuntu or Windows 7 PC's.
Now my questions...
Is this the only way to unbrick my phone?
Using Linux or Windows, which one works better?
I am using the Rogers one i896, the screen just stays at i896. I will explain what I was trying to do, I had installed Clockworkmod on my rooted phone on the intentions to install another ROM on my phone. I boycotted this idea as I saw another way that had me download the zip, enable debugging, turnoff and place into recovery mode...that is where I got stuck. I obviously made a mistake somewhere, does anyone have any ideas how to unbrick my phone. Not too make it sound worse but I have to use my wife's old Blackberry...a pink flip!
Linux works better. After dl, right click, permissions, check the little box that says make it executable. Click ok. Now right click on it, open with java (either open jdk, or sun java ). The app should open.
Thanks very much, I was now able to install on Linux but after all this the unbrick did not work. It tells me to plug my phone in, the phone is in the USB port it has always been in. I turned the phone in the off position and all it does is show a load symbol similar to the one before the battery charge comes on, when it goes on it just stops at the i896 screen and does nothing else. Any other ideas on how to unbrick this phone? or am I done and got to get a new one? I'd rather keep this one
Ok not to say nothing is working, but I have a yellow triangle with Android digging, says downloading below and at the bottom do not turn off target!!! What does this mean?

Plug it into the computer and hit the button.
I tried that but my pc doesnt pickup my Samsung anymore, it is like it doesnt exist when I plug in. I am gonna reboot the PC and retry.
Are you using a Linux machine?
yes I am I have Ubuntu 11.10 installed, I never had this trouble before with it recognizing the phone.
If you can get download mode, flash back to stock.
It goes into download mode but not sure how to flash to stock
There is a sticky in the development section for stock ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285616
Thanks guys, I have read the instructions and all is fine except that I am using Rogers version i896, if it doesn't make any difference then I will load the AT&T if there would be issues. Second issue I am running into is while my phone goes into download mode, my PC's continue to not see my phone, I have removed everything including the SD card. Any ideas how to get the phone to be recognized as I think this would solve a lot
My friend recently had similar problems and it turned out to be a bad cable. Don't overlook the obvious.

HD7 Half brick fix with goldcard

Hi, i have an half bricked HD7 and i'm trying to fix it with goldcard since i read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1417761
I followed this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893152
I have the CID, i have the goldcard.img, i have a good rom and i copyed it to my 1GB SD card after i renamed it to SCHUIMG.nbh. Now i don't fully understand what i have to do.
At this point on the guide:
4-connect usb cable except the one for the wp7
boot your device into usb host mode(volume down + camera on Trophy)
and connect the last usb cable.
the screen of your wp7 look like this if all work.
This point is not clear to me, may someone explain better what i have to do and what should happen?
I have an Y-cable and a female-female adaptor. Please tell me what to do.
Thanks for your answers.
Google is your best friend.check this link out. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10187622&postcount=1
Oh, really? Thanks a lot.
Did you read my question? I already checked that guide, and I don't understand the 4th point.

connect all the cables, except the phone (micro USB on the bottom of the phone)
press and hold volume down button with the camera button, then press the power button, the phone should turn on with a grey screen and blue text in the middle that says "Enter USB Host Mode" or something like that..
connect your phone to usb
your screen should look like the photo attached in that thread
Ok, i did everything as you said, and my phone was in "Enter USB host mode". After i connect it to USB it changes to "Loading..." and remains stuck there forever. I also tried with different card readers and different micro SD (always 1 GB or lower), same results.
Notice that my card readers don't have a flashing light so i don't know wether they are working or not. I assume they are working because the screen changes in "Loading" but for some reason it gets stuck in there.
Maybe I should change rom? I'm using a NoDo rom i found on an italian blog since i can't download the ones the xda forum provides, i always get the error "server is busy" or something like that.
Do you have any suggestion? I'm using this rom anyway:
ht tp:// uplo aded .to/file /dud fva8j
(remove spaces)
Edit: the rom i'm using is not a custom rom of course, it's the original NoDo.

hmm, are you sure the ROM you're using is the one for your phone, you know, if your phone is T-Mobile, you have to download tmobile rom... etc
and maybe there isn't enough power for the phone and the reader, try using your wall charger not your computer/laptop
and try asking a friend to download you the roms from xda, especially if you know someone with different ISP
hope it works

I'm absolutely sure the rom is exactly for my phone, and i'm using a wall charger (i also tried with computer though).
I'll try to download the roms from xda in some way, can someone give me a link to a working one? I tried from this list but some links say the file has been removed, others just don't work because the file sharing site is close and so on.

[Q]Possible brick after failed RUU install?

First of all I experimented with some custom ROMs. But after a while I wanted to go back to stock and tried to install a RUU I already used succesfull. But during the installation it hung up and I had to cancel it. And now it is impossible to use everything. The phone just show me the black background with the HTC log and four triangles in the corners. I can't use the bootloader, go into recovery or use adb, first of all because my PC doesn't recognize my phone anymore. Already tried to use adb and some tools like the AIO bye anders and the XL Multi tool. I also tried the Forum search for bricked stuff, but nothing worked so far. Any idea how to fix it?
And please excuse my bad english. It was a long day. ^^
In pretty sure that's completely bring, idk how yous brick the sxl, ivebdonebso much stuff to mine and I wonder how mines still perfect, you might wanna look into some articles about jtag!
Don't know how, as I said. I did also do a lot of stuff to my phone, custom ROMs, Themes, Kernel etc. Now I just tried to go back to stock, relocked, went into fastboot, everything as prescribed.
And during the installation I've got said that the installation was aborted. The progress bar on the phone didn't react and the software stucked too. Additionaly, my PC is really potent, without any other software problems so far. So, Software forced to close and I had no other joice than to put the battery out of my phone to restart it. And so it happened.
Thanks for the info about jtag. As an Electrician, it is really inviting to buy such a machine. But I think, this time I'll bring it to repair and wait for the results. Let to the experts their job. But thanks for the reply.

So if you turn on phone all you have is a black screen? What if you pull out battery and insert it and hold down volume down and power button? Does it go to bootloader or also just black screen? If black screen try adb devices and fastboot devices. And when connected look in control panel what it calls the phone. Perhaps it says qsusb or something?

I'm not being rude I'm.just stating sxl is very hard to brick if you even try to, I'm not saying its your fault either, a fault USB cable could brick your phone if your half way through an installation if you can't get into bootloader, recovery or pick up your device in adb, I think the only solution is jtag! All the best!

When yo flash RUU the phone goes into kind an own bootloader. The black screen with a silver HTC logo. This is the only thing i get into, but with four triangles, in each corner of the display. It doesn't matter what I do, tried to pull the battery, use the key combo, adb/fastboot etc. When the phone starts, it shows directly the screen described above.
Sent in for repair today and just can wait now. But thanks guys for your replies.
How did it go? Did they fix your problem? Also this happened to me, I discovered that the cause was because installing the ruu relocks the bootloader before it wipes the Rom, and mine failed just before wiping the Rom,I had a custom Rom installed so it would not boot into it because the bootloader was locked so I re-unlocked the bootloader then the phone booted up normally!

Phone in USB Host Mode

Hello!,
I got my phone into a weird situation, every time I try to connect to my PC, it's saying "Phone is in USB host mode", the PC tries to recognizes and nothing happens, after that the phone won't charge and stays like that until I rebooted, I can charge it with the original charger after this.
My device:
HTC One AT&T 32GB
ROM: ARHD 41.0
I also tried this method with no results: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2481211
Anyone with this situation too?

You mean it's showing up as QHSUSB_DLOAD in Device Manager?
Unfortunately that would indicate a hard brick, no fix, as far as I am aware of.
Welcome to the group of unfortunate people.
I guess the best option would be to send it back for warranty repairs, mine is the same and I'm 99.99% sure it has to do with the charging port.
Unfortunately for me I'm out of the US so warranty shipping is not an option at the moment.
There are other threads about this problem, but so far the only ones I heard that solved this problem was by repair or replace.

No, it's not bricked it works ok but only charges through wall charger and if you plug it up to a pc it gets into "USB Host Mode" and then you have to reboot to be able to charge from the wall charger.
My HTC showed the same message. Saying it can not charge into host mode.
HTC only charges powered off.

What Windows version you running?
but be careful, QHSUSB_DLOAD mode is a brick... sooner or later
maybe best to get yourself an ubuntu live usb, and check adb and fastboot connections there. you can use this guide by @tobesedated to create a Live USB http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2606577
maybe it's just bad/outdated windows drivers.

Steps 8-15 of my guide show how to set up adb/fastboot in Ubuntu 32bit and to check if your device is recognized. You don't have to install Ubuntu just select to try it. I think that's what scares everyone off, is thinking they have to install the OS...It seems like a lot of work but it really isn't and compared to what you've gone through, it can't hurt....good luck

Win 7 and XP are pretty much OK with any drivers & hboot & firmware/rom, but what is it exactly showing you when you say "USB Host Mode"?
Have you considered uninstalling everything with HTC.... in control panel, and installing newer version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2089508
then see if you get MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) working again.
USB Host Mode (as in Qualcomm High Speed USB Download Mode) is NOT a good sign! it's a brick about to happen.
maybe try changing the cable you are using to your PC!!!
EDIT: and make sure you're phone's USB port is not dirty or similar

let's take this down a notch, we dont care what your phone says, we care what shows up in Windows 7 Device Manager (or XP, maybe even Win8):
for example
I really haven't explored what steps are needed to get it back to stock, but mine connects to the pc as long as it's in bootloader so I can flash stuff like Fw but nothing that need to get into the sd card. (as far as I know).

I'm thinking this a port issue, is damage somehow, however, I hope to find a software solution.
New Firmware
Phone that was purchased was not recognized by my computer in recovery and was locked with no S-Off and did not have a Super CID, but assuming that you have all of those things already and are developing these issues then I would try updating the firmware. For some reason, after flashing the 5.11.1540.9 firmware from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2485651 and updating to ARHD 71.1 the charging issue all has seemed to disappear. If anyone wants the full run down of how I got from my original non-functioning and unrecognized phone to where it is now I can put in details, but as far as I can tell the issue is just with the firmware if you find yourself being able to intermittently charge in different scenarios when it is off.
Loading New Firmware
Also, for some reason, computer would not recognize phone with TWRP recovery yet I could push files through adb when using CWM recovery. So what happened for me was loading up CWM and pushing the files that I needed into the data folder and flashing TWRP to then install it or rebooting the phone as normal and finding the file with something like a root file explorer. I feel like I may not be very clear with this so post if there needs to be more clarification.
it's a strange issue ,i think it is a hardware problem, happen to me and i try everything possible, without success, than i charge phone when power of and it was the only way ,but led was flashing so it was intermittent charging,i was able to charge only to 97%..i use my phone and somehow next day i was able to charge phone, but then problem occur again...and wired thing is that fastboot devices list is not empty but adb devices list is empty,so phone is not fully recognized by computer, and i forgot to say that day when i was able to charge phone, adb command worked...that day i flashed firmware recovery and rom again ,because i thought it will resolve the problem...

The phone was a gift for my dad and it has been running fine since my last post. No charging issues and the phone does not go into host mode randomly anymore.
