[Q] How do you cool down Note? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all. I hope the experts can help...
What are the things we need to do to stop the Note being so hot?
I was running Rocket ROM V19.1 but now running Crisklo'sROM V4 which seems a little cooler but not much. CPU is 100 - 1200 on lulzactiv and noop.
Abyss kernel is out of the question pushing temp 12°C hotter than FM2.0. Abyss 3.3 causes lockup on boot from overheating. Phone must be pre cooled to make it through!
My going constantly runs at 35°C when the room is only 24°C.
It seems the ROM cookers don't have this problem. Or is it just winter for all of them while I'm in summer

Try CF kernel or SpeedMod kernel, and avoid charging while browsing the net.
I've been in your situation before and I live in tropical country. Now I'm settled with Cassie's XtraLight + SpeedMod kernel. No more overheat problem

A bucket of cold water should do it. Just soak it for 2 seconds and you'll be fine.
More here.

hahaha~~ i think FM 2.0 kernel just fine for me.. running rocket v19+FM2.0 ondemandx 1.6ghz.. stable temp 31○c..

Ok i'm trying Cassie's Lite with the new Abyss 3.4 and temp is 41°c running mostly at 200mhz and room temp of 26°c
I wonder if poor signal could cause the phone to run this hot just because of the radio chip...

[Q] Battery Temp with TalonDev and Draky's 10.1

I just flashed TalonDev 0.2.1 Kernel on Darky's 10.1. All went well and I am overclocking to 1.2. The problem is that battery temps is always high between 66 and 41 to the point where it won't even charhe when left alone at night.
Anyone had that problem before?
Overclock = heat simple.

Well, I came back to DamianGTO RC2V2.1 and OC to 1.2 Ghz. Its stable and fast. No overheat

Is oc risky?

Thinking if overclocking my captivate to 1.6 but will it shorten the like time significantly.

What is your desire to oc?

Very risky
Very.
Yes it will shorten the life on your phone no way to know how much though. unless you are into it and read a fair amount about it i would not oc. The benefits just are not that significant

start at 1.2 if your scared
It will not shorten the life to the extent that it will not last the update period
Miui Captivate
Oh well how long do u think it will last. N I want it for the extra speed in games mostly.

If you want some extra speed, still to 1.2 and below and try using Pimp My CPU to drop the voltage -50mV across the board (try messing around with it more to get more drops without charge deaths and etc). By doing this, I am running mine currently at 1.2 ghz with a -100mV voltage drop, which is the same as stock 1.0 ghz voltage level.
It's overvolting that kills a processor, not overclocking. More voltage means more power for the processor to dissipate as heat and some components are not spec'd to take more voltage than stock.
I hope this helps.
I have read that you should be safe up to 1300mv(not mhz). Usually 1200 mhz will run that. After 1300mv, you risk damage. It also can cause charging issues (phone uses more battery than it is charging).
Don't get me wrong, at one point I had my phone up to 1500 mhz, just to check kernel stability. Didn't stay there. Also remember that each phone is different when it comes to this. Some phones tolerate it better than others. That is why entered no definitive guide to it, only recommendations.
You shouldn't be scared to OC. but its your phones processor because everyones is different. My captivate can only get up to. 1.5. Then it freezes up. My inspire 4g can get up to 1.9 without a problem while others can only get to 1.6 or so. So try it out

I overclocked to ,1.3 and my while screen turn purple and green n I had to pull battery. Is that a crash?

Had the same problem too....sometimes when the phone is hot, theres a delay between making calls and the phone actually dialling. For info i'm on standard kl3 rom rooted with cf kernel. Phone is on on demand gov standard speed 1.4ghz. Appreciate any help...thanks.
I'm running Abyss 2.3, 100 - 1400 with Smartass V2 Governor. And it works fantastic I must say. You might wanna try a new Kernel FM 1.5 or Abyss 2.3
It's normal for the CPU to warm up when you're playing games and anything causing the CPU to run at max for a long time.
Install CPU Spy from the market and make sure you're phone goes into deep sleep and monitor the other frequencies as well.
After installing new roms or kernels the phone usually gets warm as well. Just reboot and it should be okay after a couple of minutes. That's what I experienced on my Note
Mine is completely stock... Haven't even installed 3 apps yet. The phone is never in a case and the heat appears to originate from the camera area any thoughts or ideas or am I just over reacting?
Btw the phone doesn't slow down or act different operationally just gets warm lol
below 20% of battery power any device getting hot.
plus maybe you making hard time to processor
naw the phone is at 80 percent as well :/ i think im just over thinking lol the phone is operating like a champ just want to make sure its nothing serious
Mine gets pretty hot in same area wen playing games, its just the processor heating up, sure it for force close the app, if it couldn't handle it!
Yeah.. Any processor will get hot when running. Remember there's nothing to keep it cool! So I think if you put it on your cheek and it stings after a while there may be a problem. Otherwise it's pretty normal for the Note.

alright sounds good ill keep my eye on it thx for the fast responses

Should i run an overclocked kernel or a standard one ?

I just had a long time doubt and wanted to get a clear picture, is over-clocking harmful to the device ?
Or is it just the rated capacity of the processor that is utilized while over-clocking ? I also tried an OC version of notecore before which was slower than the STD version and hence from then on i never looked for over-clocking. But now with notecore OC becoming the standard release i would like to know about the options. thanks in advance.

What rom are you on? You definitely can handle the oc notecore, because you can ran it in your device. I think the oc slow your device compared to standard because of some of init d scripts that humpers the full potential of oc. But if you say im in cleanote rom then i dont know why, only g. lewarne can diagnose it.

You may find that your Note would reboot itself randomly! It may even not be able to complete Quadrant test when you flash oc Notecore kernel for example. The CPU temperature goes over 65c. That is whay happened to mine. So, I just flashed back to the standard version. Everything is then fine.
My Note has got VoltGroup B.
No need of a overclocked kernel..a, standard kernel is fine
It realldy depends on how you will use your sgnote. I for one uses it only for internet browsing, some games and alot of sms and calls so I prefer the Standard Notecore but if you want to get more kick out of your device then you can use the OC one. But as all OC on a device may or will drain the battery alot faster.
Agreed. I use the note for just calls, text and email. So I think I'll stay with standard one. Thank you all.

To overclock or not
That depends: Like yourself, I also use the Notecore kernel. If the Note is a secondary phone and you dont actually depend on it for your day to dayaffairs, then there probably wouldn't be any harm using the overclocked version. Now , keep in mind that when you do, you are more likely to see the phone freeze up once in a while, and thus, you'll have to reboot. I once loaded the OC version of Notecore on my Note and i got very empressive results on the Quadrant benchmark app.
On the other hand; if you are like me in that you are heavily dependant on your Note for a lot of day to day stuff and having your note freeze up in the middle of a very important business call or while your using the gps to find somewhere is totally unacceptable; then I would reccomend the standard speed. For my purpose, I find that the standard Notecore kernel is considerabely fast in of itself. If i have to choose between speed and stability, I'll choose stability every time.
I've tried a number of different kernels and every one of them has made my phone freeze up....except the Notecore. The Notecore is the only custom kernel that I've never seen my Note hang on.
My two cents worth...
I keep switching between Notecore and speedmod from time to time. But I keep coming back to Notecore always when there is an update.

Gavin announced the launch of Notecore V13 for tonight (GMT)...changelog (on page 511) sounds very interesting!
Also Franco is gonna come back with a beastly kernel soon.

I do not feel any differences with an oc kernel, maybe it's just me. btw Goku's kernel worth the try

[Q] My note getting warm

Hello, Im new in Note, installed yesterday Slim Bean Rom and hydracorenirvana v7 OC kernel and I noticed that Note get warm, like 35-50 C while browsing internet or doing some low requerements stuff. I tried to low CPU to 1ghz but still the same... And while playing it jumps more then 50C, is that normal? I really dont want to burn it
Probably the media scanner is maxing the CPU, normal after installing a new ROM especially if you have a lot of files. Give it some time to settle down.

+1
Dont forget the Hydracore is a maxed out performance kernel, designed for ultimate speed, so it will generate more heat doing basic things unlike the stock kernel.
and not to mention the massive power hungry screen and huge battery inside, its normal so dont worry about it. If it gets to the point where its too hot to touch, just remove the battery for 10mins and allow it to cool down.
Can I OC and UV GPU with hydracore kernel? I have S2 with dorimanx kernel , there is Stweaks app its very usefull when I can choose battery or performance profiles. and its auto OC and UV on that kernel. Can we get something on Note?
there are many apps that can do this, Tegrak, SetCPU etc, but be careful messing with voltages as it can prevent the phone from functioning.
You can use a basic app such as no-frills-CPU to adjust OC and governors.

Yes, I know setcpu, but I want OC / UV GPU not CPU. On my S2 via STweaks I can OC/UV also GPU.
Ok, now Im on jellybam woth "voldemort" kernel and on battery it looks little less warmer but when I charging and try to play games or browse it gets really hot, like ~55C . Is it normal and not damage my Note? Also I always use 1ghz cpu speed. with 1.4 or 1.6 ghz its little bit warmer
