So what's the best way to back up apps/contacts for the Note?
Thanks in advance, guys.
May I add a question regarding backup issue,
How to backup game score & level as well?
For contacts I personally use google to sync and for apps I use Titanium Backup Pro but for that you have to be rooted.

google for contacts
mybackup root for apps and data - but like titanium backup you need root, tehre are other options available for mybackup that dont need root in the market
Backup your contacts by going into your contacts app, click 'menu' and select export, then export to sd card. Backs up all your contacts

This is realy the best and fastest way and most save and how to root you can find it also here on XDA it's easy if you read carefully
Sync with google isnt fast.. Its instant.. You dont even have to think about it..
for the apps,i always use titanium backup!
in pro version you can also program a backup for new apps downloaded since the last backup and it's fully programmable (either days or hours of the day)

Hey!! a question, with titanium backup, the back up its saved in the SD Card right?? and can i copy wherever it backs up to a PC to have you now a Back up of a Back up ??
May be is a stupid question, i want havent buy it yet!! Thanks!!!
Short answer: Yes.
For backing ur apps u can use my phone explorer. It can backup everything on ur phone to pc includings messages, call logs, settings, apps, etc. For this to work u have to install my phone explorer in ur windows computer and my phone explorer phone client in ur phone available in android market. Then run both simultaneously and you can connect ur phone to pc either via bluetooth, wifi or usb. Also no need to root ur phone as well.

Simple way to backup apps & their settings?
Hi guys, so is there a simple, easy way to backup apps & all of their settings without having to root the phone? I've been able to backup every other phone I've owned, and I am baffled why it's so hard with the Note.

Not sure about that but there are a lot of third party apps for backing up the games data. But its your safest option without rooting.
copy files to your computer

i have used this app before with my HTC desire and i absoultley love it....
i recently just got the S3 and wanting to transfer all my messages etc to the S3 from the Desire... i have done the back up from the HTC..
but im trying to connect the S3 via USB and having issues it tells me i need to set the S3 to "connect only" but for the USB modes im only finding two options neither one being "connect only"
how do i make the S3 connect via USB...

Could you tell what exactly I have to backup?

Backup Methods Before Flashing?
I've been using MyBackupPro, but it does not save any of my settings. I have to set up a lot of stuff like email accounts and so on every time I flash.
Is there a better way?

I hope someone is, that would be best option, titanium is brilliant though and has saved me a few times, I have it scheduled to backup everynight.
I also use Mybackup pro for sms and call logs etc.
neither can bring your homescreen widgets back as before.
Is there anything that saves your facebook/google links in contacts? That's the thing I find most annoying having to go back through them one by one...
Titanium backup in its current form is not functioning correctly on my phone aswell as many other galaxys users
yes - unfortunately Titanium Backup currently won't backup the databases :-(
Best backup app for galaxy?
Is there anything out there which will backup our apps, contacts etc before I flash a new rom to my phone? Is it possible in kies? I'm loath to have to link my face book and google mail contacts again
Backup apps/settings to PC? possible?
Hi all, i have seen many threads regarding backup apps such as wave/titanium pro etc but im wondering if its possible to backup to a PC?
as much as its a naughty word, i liked apples way of backing up using itunes. you simply plugged in your phone and voila its backing up into a friendly restorable format.
i just want a simple backup of my device encase i flash to others roms.
is this possible?
i don't know of such application.
but what is so bad about backing it up to the External SD card?
you want your backup to be with you all the time, so in case of "OMG! happens", you can easily Hard Reset, then restore from backup from the SD card.
once on the SD card, you can easily copy it over to your PC, the next time you hookup your USB cable.
if you want it done automatically, you can always create a script on your PC to grab X files from X folder every time the USB connects to X device
I love the backup software from PalmOS, they works automatically just as you wanted.
I never found a good one that actually works on WinMobile
in Android it's almost perfect, it just missing the part to sync the backups to the desktop automatically.
But that's a minor thing, as you can do the batch command mentioned above.
you can try this one for size, see if you like it.

Yeah... Titanium Back-up is great. You can even try MyBackup Pro. Both are equally good.
MyBackup Pro restores all the apps perfectly but is not able to link those to the Android Market...
what do you guys use to backup all your data before changing firmware
I already flashed my girlfriend's galaxy S twice
and each time i was installing and configuring the device as she want...
Once again there is a new firmware that correct some interesting part (GPS)
but i REALLY don't want to loose 2 hours of my time to
a: install the apps my gf has
b: configure the device (font, ring tone, volume ...)
so question : what are you using to save the time of installing/configurating...

Most would say Titanium, I use MyBackup. For apps+data, sms, mms, bookmarks, system settings... when restored it's almost as it was before flashing.
Contacts should be in your Gmail account, cloud - no need for backup if everything is set up right, they are auto synced again
Thank you mate, will try it out.
Can I flash a ROM without being connecting to a power source? At school atm. but would like to try and flash MIUI
Yes but battery should be full, or almost full. Just in case. You'll need PC to get root and CWM, anyway
Also, backup (plain copy/paste is enough) everything on your internal SD as it could get deleted in the process. Depends what you do, if something goes wrong everything could be lost.
Got CM7 atm. , alreayd rooted and got CWM np, but only on 60% battery
hello good day
is there a way to backup all my contacts even if i cant properly open my phone? im using a galaxy s i9000 with MIUI rom. i got bugged and is now stuck in the bootscreen (not bootloop) because my battery drained and it turned off automatically (refer to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30683237#post30683237 for more of the details). is there a way to backup those saved contacts just by using the computer alone? thanks for reading and may you help me
Hey guy,
try to do a Nandroid Backup if you can enter CWM. These should save your contacts
Otherwise you could follow these instructions:
1)
reboot into cwm
go to mount and storage
go to usb storage / your internal usb storage should shown up on your pc now
backup all data via copy and past (don't forget the hidden folders!)
2)
use ADB comands to pull your contacts (only recommended for advanced users!)
best regards and good luck

its up to u
juz back it up with titanium
n restore it after flashing, u ll get ur fone number (will be in ur contact list) whose associated with whatsapp only, and juz back it up.
for whatsapp, juz delete ur account in whatsapp setting n put new number there after backup all da thing u wanna.
Backup - Transfer Whatsapp number without a sim card
Here is the solution I found:
1) Backup your whatsapp with Titanium Backup
(I didn't have root so I used framaroot for rooting)
2) Install Titanium Backup on second phone
3) Make sure that there is a sim card on the second phone (It is for the first time. Then you can remove it)
4) Transfer Titanium Backup folder to second phone (I used Bump app to transfer)
5) Restore Whatsapp using Titanium Backup on the second phone
6) When whatsapp is installed, click on save, not open
7) Then it will ask to restore files, do it
8) DONE
9) I uninstalled Whatsapp from the first phone as if it caused a problem, I had no sim card to verify phone number. But if you wanna use on two or more phones, you can use the same method but not to uninstall from first phone. Try if it works and let everyone know.

Did anyone manage to try this? I read that whatsapp uses IMEI to verify? Does this mean if I change the IMEI on my phone, and restore the whatsapp using above method, it would work?
Yeah its Possible BUT Remember
Be Connected to The Google Account when you registered at first time with Lost Sim Card
Be Connected to the Wifi When You Registered at the first time when you lost Your sim Card
Chances with this Will be more higher!!
Then YOu will Succesfully

Hi
My phone is Xperia z2 I dont have root in my phone and my phone needs to downgrade software to root it
The problem when i downgrade my phone software all apps will be erased so r there any solution plz
Hi folks,
I've done a fair bit of searching and although it has been briefly discussed before I can't see any recent mentions about Helium (aka Carbon) from clockworkmod (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup&hl=en).
The Google Play store page for the app mentions that the app doesn't work on the Xperia S and Z due to some changes Sony made, however when I first got my Xperia Z (at launch in the UK), I was able to backup app data (and some apks) from my Galaxy S3 and restore them onto the Xperia Z without any issues.
Given there have been a few software updates from Sony since launch, does anyone have any recent experience with Helium, specifically whether it works correctly to backup and restore to the Xperia Z? I couldn't find a suitable thread or forum to try to ask the developer directly what the specific issues were with the Xperia S and Z that led to the warning on the app page.
I had a problem restoring Apps with this app after full factory reset. It always crashed. Tried to restore from SD card and CLOUD. on my galaxy s3 it works fine. The build in sony's backup and restore app is doing great.

Is there something weird about the way messages are stored in general? Everything else seemed to work - the one thing I can't seem to figure out is how to restore text messages (com.android.providers.telephony.ab) - I've tried to do it as a whole app using the PC interface, tried copying the folder as a replacement via Android File Transfer to the 'carbon' folder, etc.
When I try to restore via helium server, it quickly shows me everything as restored but I don't see the messages. When I try to do it manually (e.g. force copy), I don't see an option under "Restore and Sync" to actually select messaging.
Am I missing something stupid / obvious? The raw data seems to be there (for example, call logs were uploaded just fine, text messages seem to have an issue).

So I came up with a solution based on what works for others. Why this works when it didn't previously is beyond me, but hopefully someone else can use it if individual parts of their Helium backup don't work properly (in theory it should work for any app / SQL dataset). The whole point of Helium is that we're running non-rooted phones and so Titanium Backup or the like aren't applicable. For reference, I'm running an N4 to OSX 10.7.x
1. Use the Helium Server to create a full backup.
2. Wipe phone or whatever you need to do (I had to do a factory reset for Google since it's an N4 and my proximity sensor is dead).
3. Install the apps you had previously via Play Store (pain in the a**).
4. Run Helium server and upload the backup data.
5. Update apps as needed (should be auto but who knows for individual stuff).
6. Check app data in apps. Texts are obviously easy to see for me. Hopefully everything restored nicely for you here.
***Now for the bit for people who got corrupted restores.
7. Unzip the backup file on your computer, select the .ab files that correspond to the missing / corrupted restores and then zip those into a new file on your computer (for step 9). Keep these files handy in unzipped form as well for step 10.
8. Perform a new Helium backup of those sections onto the internal SD card (yes it will be blank, worry not).
9. (Optional step): Run Helium server and upload that new zip file (with the stuff that didn't make it) alone. Try restore. Unlikely to work but worth a shot.
10. Running Android File Transfer, find the SD card, find the folder 'carbon' and then find the corresponding sub-folders that have the modules that were corrupted. Replace the SD card backups of the broken modules with the good ones from your computer.
11. Run Helium restore again, but only for the sections you want (I swear, for me Messaging didn't show up the first few times but after step 10 it did).
12. Wait, hoepfully it works well. I would reboot after running the restore to a) kill Helium and b) confirm functionality.
FWIW, my telephony.ab was 1.8MB and took SIX hours to restore. Seriously. Yeah yeah, that's a lot of texts but six hours? I've since added "SMS Backup & Restore" to my phone and will probably just use that, map out my phone layout and functionality and just manually replace apps from now on since most data is in the cloud. You lose some stuff, but prima facie it's boat tons easier.
Hopefully that helps someone else who had the same issues.

Why are you mocking Koush? Yes the Koush. He made this app. He specifically said in the app description that:
Note: Helium is NOT available to Motorola devices. This is because Motorola phones have a bug that break Android's backup mechanism. Until this is fixed by Motorola, Helium will not work on those Androids. You can download Helium manually here:
http://download.clockworkmod.com/apks/Backup.apk
If you find that Helium *does* work on your Motorola Android, please notify me.
Note: Some Sony devices have issues with Helium. This includes the Xperia S and Xperia Z. Sony has *disabled* backup on these devices completely.
