Software update for Note available? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

According to Engadget and a few other sources there is an update available for the note:
http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/22/refresh-roundup/
Samsung Galaxy Note: A small update, it adds new features and enhancements to the Note, such as a number row on its stock Android keyboard, "one hand operation" mode which shrinks the keyboard and dialpad for better one-handed access, optimized screen brightness and a new torch widget on the home screen.
But when I try to update the phone it says no update available. It was not bought through a network so should be unlocked and I am based in the UK. Any suggestions on how to get the update?

Thats the last LA4 Update release from Samsung, but its not released worldwide, you can download it from the below link and update via Odin.

"This Update in not directly Rootable"

No updates for mine as yet
Hi
Along with quite a few other Note owners in the UK, mine is still stick on 2.3.5, XXKJ4. I got mine from Hantec back in November. It was an EU version (Poland perhaps?).
I'll give it a few more weeks before I root it and side-step the official update sequence. 2.3.6 us supposed to fix the Android OS battery drain issue.

Hmmmm maybe I will just wait for ICS, the improvements to one handed operation would be really handy though (sorry for the bad pun!).

[Q] LG Optimus Black LGL85C (Straight Talk) upgrade from GB to ICS

Hi,
I'm an Android noob and I did read “[HOW TO]The Big N00B how-to!”. I'm a somewhat advanced Windows 7 user, I taught myself Fedora and I'm confident I can learn Android. I am not a programmer or developer.
I just made the leap from a dumb phone to a smart phone, I wish I did it years ago. I have Straight Talk which is a partnership between Tracfone and Walmart. I've used Tracfone for years so I decided to continue with them. I purchased an LG Optimus Black LGL85C with Android 2.3.4 which is the same as the P970. I bought an older style model because I liked the features and there is an ICS 4.0.4 upgrade available.
The back story on what I've done so far. I tried to upgrade using the LG mobile Support Tool. It downloads ICS then stops at install telling me to contact LG Support. I contacted them and I was told I have an Optimus Black P970 made to be distributed in Germany so they cannot do anything. I live in the United States. I was told to call Straight Talk, they told me they have nothing to do with the operating system and cannot do anything.
I then tried upgrading using the KDZ Firmware Update EN Tool and the V30B_00.kdz file. That did not work crashing because of some sort of conflict with msxml4-SP3. I installed msxml 3, 4, 6, and the msxml technet fixit. Nothing worked so far so I gave up on that method for now anyway.
Now I'm contemplating using the SmartFlash Tool. I downloaded the LGP970_V30B_00_AP.bin and the LGP970_V30B_00_CP.fls files. I do not want to screw up my phone and I'm not really looking for a custom ROM to install. I am open to it though after I do more homework. Here are my questions:
Can I use the P970 ROM on my LGL85C phone?
Is there a newer official ICS ROM with the latest updates that I can use? This one is from December 2012.
IF so will I get OTA updates from LG?
Is it safe for me to follow the direction on this website hackmyandroid named "Official ICS Update for LG Optimus Black P970 Rolling Out – Install Manually on Your Device"? I cannot post the link.
I rooted the phone using Framaroot.
I installed SuperSU Pro, BusyBox Free and Rebooter.
I'm going to install ROM Manager Premium and ROM Toolbox Pro
I'm Thinking about installing BusyBox Pro and a few others.
I know they have more tools than I need but I'd rather have more at my disposable than not enough.
If I'm not going to get LG updates I might as well think about checking out custom ROMs.
Any help will be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Norman

I assume this is firmware I can use if I fail incredibly badly.

ICS has some issues, mainly:
- the touch screen becoming unresponsive (only solution is to pull the battery)
- GPS is broken for many
- Sluggish behavior at odd times
- dialer issues ( zero as first number, dial tones not working with prompts on automated systems)
I got tired of playing and decided for stability. I had too many missed calls at inopportune times due to sluggishness, and pulling the battery every time the screen was unresponsive was old.
The final straw was when I was trying to get through on an automated line with key tones.
I couldn't take it any more and re-installed Marvel 9, and have been quite happy ever since. It's stable, runs all of the app store program I NEED, and is lively and responsive. Zeus is fairly solid too.
If you want to "play", have fun with ICS or an ICS-based ROM.
Hi,
Thanks for the info, I've been reading and learning a lot. I'm interested in something fairly stable that can be updated. I'm not ready to "play" yet. I need to read and understand things before I do something. I like to learn from other peoples mistakes. Learning Linux I couldn't have cared less how many times I crashed it because all my stuff was on Windows. Now I very rarely go into Windows. I don't have that option with Android though. I'll figure it out though.
Norm
"stable that can be updated".
Google is shifting most things to the Play Store. The Android OS version isn't completely essential, as long as the applications you want will run. I strip the installed ROM down to bare-bones, then install what I need from the app store.
Unless LG is going to patch ICS (I think LG is done with the P970), I see no advantage of ICS over GB in terms of security - provided you only download from the Play Store. Some of the GB-based CyanogenMODs (2.37) for the P970 might actually be better if the latest batch of security patches are back-ported.
I worry about stability first; I don't have a land-line in my home, and my cell phone is not a toy.

- Zact Mobile compatibility (It's On)
- Prevention Pop-up removal
Important Notes
- Software version is L720VPUFNAF
- This update will roll-out in a phased manner from 2/20 - 3/10
- Refer to the Samsung Galaxy S4 Software Update article in Support for install instructions
(via https://community.sprint.com/baw/message/733118)
Go through all the trouble of setting up my NAE updated phone and now they do this . Wonder how long it'll be before this one makes it's way around and gets a new hotspot mod.
Considering fgr had the NAE hotspot posted within 2 days of NAE dropping I would say not long.
Further browsing is revealing conflicting reports. The support link provided actually goes to the page for the 720T, showing the MK5 initial release and only NAF following it. Going through the original S4 model support page shows the known MDC-NAE list. Wonder if the rep goofed or are we really going to get a refresh. Guess we'll see after people start spamming check for updates.

I thinkkkk this is for the L720T model (Tri-band).
Scratch that, it IS for the L720T... https://community.sprint.com/baw/message/733642#733642

Yeah I asked on the forum as well as the @sprintCare twitter account. I'm thinking the rep put the wrong model up there not knowing there were two different types of S4's. Started seeing people with the tri-band post about getting KitKat.
Yes it is for the Triband. I would like to use WiFi calling but oh well.

received update on mate 10 BLA-L29 8.0.0.133 (C185)

today i had a notification update the update was 0.95 GB
in the change log it mentioned adding face unlock the new night mode (enhanced than before) plus nay security patches and improvements ....
im still updating so i didnt try them out yet
would keep you posted if you are interested
so? can you give us an update on the update?
Biggest feature is the face unlock
It is super fast and secure too as i tried using a picture of me and stuff which sometimes works on other phones but it didn't unlock also there is no a raise to wake feature kinda like the iphone
Didn't notice yet any performance and battery changes
Just a slight camera optimization
Will keep u updated as i use it more...
Did u get the face unlock?
Also there is a new app called app gallery
Basically another application store but it also updates huawei's own applications and stuff
My mate 10 has face unlock with april update patch.. not may.

It is the one from the p20. 4 seconds and stabilized. Old night mode was 8 seconds and shakey by hand for me
I like the update. Face unlock is fast to, has a lift to wake option now
My mate 10 is rooted with magisk and using twrp as recovery. How can i update to latest? Update with OTA will brick my phone??
noticed that the theme app was acting slowly... then while playing around with huawei's appstore, I set the country to china (funny, they removed the united states as an option from the list of countries now). After that, the theme app updated itself, and now we have a lot more options to download. The china one seems to be mostly paid, but change it to any other country and the remaining ones only show the free options. Guess since china doesn't have payment options from those countries, the paid themes/wallpapers/etc don't show up

Possible alternative to OP7P T-Mobile stock ROM

This is not a tutorial, just a technical note. I have been able to restore my unlocked T-Mobile OnePlus 7 Pro (model GM1915) that was firmware build GM31CB, with the GM21AA for models GM1911 and GM 1917. YMMV.
I have not experienced any issues with LTE or wifi calling, or text messages. I immediately received and successfully installed an OTA. The only difference I've seen so far is the wifi-calling icon now says "V♂WIFI" (still works though) and default ring tone.
Before you ask why didn't I just use the MSMTool to install the international version.... Some may find themselves in my predicament, where they are Linux or Mac users and the MSMTool.exe is for Windows. I tried a Windows VM but was only partially successful. The T-Mobile download links I found were broken and GM21AA is easily found.
Follow up: I've figured out that the male symbol is actually "oiP" to spell VoiP. Another note is that swiping from edge left to center used to bring up curated news, a feature I liked, but now it brings up a tray with widgets like a parking tool. I'm starting to think that the tiny differences I'm noticing are differences in the updates because T-Mob was behind on the releases. Also, I neglected before to mention that the ROM was installed via TWRP.

You can get that back by installing Nova launcher and the Google companion app. The international version is leaps and bounds better than the hack job TMo did. For being optimized for Tmos network I have way better performance on the international version. MMS messages wouldn't always download, sms would hang. On the international version everything just works. You think it would be the other way

***CLOSED*** Enable Samsung Gallery secret hidden settings

Turns out that the stock Samsung Gallery has a secret menu, and it`s easy to enable it, take a look.
Moderator Edit: YouTube link removed due to violation of XDA external links policy.
Best part is that it runs on One UI 3.1/3.0/2.5 and 2.1 so even earlier devices should benefit.
Test it for yourself and let us know here what you were able to activate or de-activate.
Doesn't do anything on my Note 10+ /Pie.
Damn! Which version are you using (Gallery & One UI)? It should work back to One UI 2.1 - can you try again - you have to aim for the last few digits - I myself did not get it the first time...

Gallery 10.2.00.19/ One UI vers 10.0.40.6
No go with this version.
Samsung is fond of hidden secret menus. Who knows how many there really are?
I found one by accident over a year ago.
Really? Those goofballs would have you tapping on everything. It's more than just annoying.
Anymore I cringed at updating any Samsung apk other than Wearables. Last update on the Good Lock family of apps left it with dumb looking creepy dancing icons on the main menu and zero tangible functionality improvements.
Small wonder I'm still running Pie; don't need AT&T/Samsung and Google screwing up -my- N10+!
I found a few more in Bixby (allowing capsule test) and S Health (a bit more settings) - still testing them...
Agree - stick on Pie - unless you dont want to test next versions
I finally got it to work. You have to press on the version number several times not the word Gallery. Kind of interesting....
I tried and it did not work, but i tried harder, and being pixel perfect? It did work on A32 latest version.
Works on my S21+ (stock) with all the latest updates. Thanks!
